I'm so glad that I was chosen to participate in this internship program with LES Downtown. Lisa was my boss and mentor. She is positive, amazing, and an independent woman who does not judge any gender or race. As a boss, she offered many opportunities and space for us to think outside the box, while also giving us a bigger picture to strive for through the tasks that she assigned. She was always in good spirits and made us excited to work with her. She was always there for us, and when we did not understand an assignment, she always contacted us and patiently explained the task at hand until we had a clear understanding. She made us think about the bigger picture as a designer, as well as an employee to the designer, in order to improve the business aspect of the brand. Lisa always asked for our feedback and cared about our thoughts. She managed to help form the good relationships between me and my other classmates during this internship. This has been one of the most positive experiences I've had in high school, and she was a major part of that." - Intern Natalia Peralta (High School of Fashion Industries-Class of 2022)
"This internship taught me a lot about building a brand, which could help me in the future when I’m ready to build my own brand. In the future, I’ll know how to scope out the competition and figure out what sets me apart from others. I’ll be able to design my website to make it stand out and utilize keywords to make it easier for potential customers to find me. I’ll also be able to scope out the marketplace and figure out what would attract customers to my brand. I could apply these skills to any future job. This internship gave me a lot of experience on branding and setting yourself apart from others. It also gave some tips for success and taught me how to appeal to an array of different types of people." - Intern Bryanna Ohene-Karikari (High School of Fashion Industries-Class of 2022)
LES Downtown is a unique brand that is nothing like I've seen. I love how the brand focuses on the female body to construct and create men’s suits that fit a woman. Each suit is unique. Not only does the brand focus on womenswear, but they have accessories and baby gear that are hand crocheted, which adds variety. The brand is sustainable which is great for the environment and is something a lot of brands struggle to achieve. LES Downtown does it flawlessly." - Intern Chelsea Mills (High School of Fashion Industries-Class of 2021)
"The pros of being featured on The Wedding Wire and The Knot allows LES Downtown the opportunity to gain new customers. LES Downtown will receive more recognition which will attract both men and women to order their own custom suits. The exposure allows the opportunity for the business to grow within the wedding industry, which is a big deal for LES Downtown. Being featured on these platforms allows growth in business, but also as a person. It keeps LES Downtown up-to-date with new trends, like these companies, through the use of technology in creating apps/websites and now the latest, the virtual storefront. That's a big concept considering everything nowadays is technology based." - Intern Kelly Pelaez (High School of Fashion Industries-Class of 2022)
"A brand is an identity of one's ideas in the retail world and a first impression to the consumer's eyes. LES Downtown is a brand that is mainly, but not exclusive to, personalized suiting, created from traditional menswear styles to fit the curves of a woman. However, they are not limited to mainly the female audience. The niche market that LES Downtown provides their specialized services in is widely similar to other brands, but what makes Les Downtown so unique from others is their design in menswear custom suits, community help such as giving back to inner city kids thru internship programs for students within fashion, variation in wears, such as baby gear and sportswear, and a goal to “Label fashion not people”. The LES Downtown brand helps its customers with affordable, individualized, and fashionable clothing compared to their competitors. Overall, LES Downtown is a brand with unparalleled services and personalized experiences." - Intern Nikol Rafailova (High School of Fashion Industries-Class of 2022)
