Richard & Melissa Carrier
Owners
Total Events was the brain child of Richard Carrier, an Albany native and graduate of Schenectady Community College. Rich also earned a degree in Hospitality Management from University of Nevada Las Vegas. His knowledge for the hospitality industry was further refined during his 15 years at the legendary Las Vegas Hilton, and subsequently as the Director of Catering when the Rio Hotel & Casino was launched.
Wanting to be closer to his family, he and his wife Melissa returned to the Albany area. With his entrepreneur spirit and passion for the event industry, he launched Total Events in 1999 from the basement of their Ballston Lake home. His drive and leadership drove the company to exponential growth and the formation of an amazing team of event professionals that are all part of the “Total Events’ family”. Rich is a hands-on General Manager and resident dog whisperer to our team’s family of dogs that visit the office.
Rich would be nowhere without his loving and self-driven wife, Melissa Carrier. Also a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vegas, Melissa’s professional background includes sales at IBM and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for an international technology firm. Energetic and resourceful, Melissa’s optimism is contagious throughout the Total Events team. She spearheads all Marketing and Financial aspects of the business, but don’t be surprised to see her on a ladder installing some new drapery inspiration.
Rich was recently honored as a top 50 Distinguish Alumni of Schenectady Community College and serves on the Advisory Board at the College. Melissa serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for Discover Albany.
Rich and Melissa’s pride and joy are their children, Justin & Rachel. The Carrier’s love to travel and enjoy spending days cruising on their boat with family and friends.

The owners of Total Events and all of their staff are second to none! If you need rentals for an event they are there to help from start to finish. Our wedding day vision evolved a lot throughout the planning process and they were there to help us make decisions and find the right style for us. They worked seamlessly with our entire vendor team and have connections with so many other great vendors. I can’t describe how amazing it felt to walk into my wedding, both the ceremony and the reception, and see my vision come to life exactly the way I pictured it. Total events went above and beyond to make sure our reception decor was cohesive and had all the subtle details I was looking for. We couldn’t have pulled it off without their help!! Joell from Total Events made our already beautiful venue look absolutely incredible. During what seemed like the busiest year ever in the events industry, she made the process so easy. We trusted her confidence and experience and knew that she would take care of us so that everything would look perfect. I really enjoyed working with Total Events. We ended up renting drapery, lights, and a bunch of linens for my wedding at the Hall of Springs. They were accommodating when I asked if I could come into the studio and see everything in person before making the final decision on colors and themes. Sam was quick to respond to questions, updates, and changes in price when it came to head count for linens. The way everything came together at the Hall was better than I could have imagined. I can't say enough good things about Total Events and the people who work there. We worked with Melissa to plan our rentals and she was so flexible and responsive, which made our experience that much better! Also, we rented curtains for the ceremony that needed to be broken down for the reception. The staff at Total Events were so quick and efficient, we didn't even realize they were there. I highly recommend Total Events if you ever need to rent anything for a wedding, party or event!

We hired Total Events to assist us in our supply needs for our wedding in Saratoga Springs in August. When first thinking about supplies we would need, like centerpieces and linens, we weren't sure how we could afford purchasing all the supplies ourselves and all the work that would be involved. Total Events made it easy to decide on renting materials instead, and to assist in picking items that would go with our venue (of which they had rented supplies to before). Knowing that they also supply the staff to set up and break down equipment was helpful, as I didn't want to pass off any of these tasks to friends or family- after a strenuous year with the pandemic, I wanted to make sure friends and family were spending time together rather than these tasks.
While some items and services can be a bit more than what I would want to pay, Total Events' work made the price worth it by taking on all aspects of providing, setting up, taking down, and storing the supplies. Their inventory shows a variety of looks as well and seem suitable for just about any type of event theme. We ended up utilizing Total Events for ceremony chairs, reception chairs, centerpieces, linens, kitchen supplies, guest reception supplies (like plates, flatware, glasses, etc.), centerpieces, and bar supplies. Sine our caterer has worked with Total Events before, the whole process was seamless and the day went very smoothly.
In all, we are thrilled with Total Events services, and would hire them again in a second. They took the stress out of the whole day and made sure that we had everything we needed from the start of the day until the send off. We highly recommend them for any wedding or big event in the area!

Rachel at Total Events is fantastic! She helped me with a drapery rental for our wedding at The Hilton Saratoga Springs to dress up our Ceremony and Reception spaces. A few short weeks before our special day I realized that I had never arranged for drapery and Rachel was able to help us out at the last minute - no problem! (Thank goodness!) She was quick to respond, easy to work with, and the drapery in the spaces looked beautiful! So glad I was able to work with her and Total Events!

Although Total Events has beautiful chandeliers, lighted drapery etc, the customer service from the Director of Special Events (Megan) was horrendous! She was on her phone, stood with her arms crossed as if she had some other place to be AND told me that the caterer had to set the linens for me. When I asked if the caterer knew that her response was “I never told them.” The day before my wedding, I set the linens, and folded the napkins because according to Megan “that sounds like a great idea, have a good day,” and then hung up on me! Also, I don’t have pictures from my rehearsal dinner because I was so busy setting up our barn for the next day, I showed up in my ripped jeans, sweatshirt, messy bun and no makeup on because I had to decorate the barn! AND to top it off, while I was on my honeymoon, Megan sent me an invoice saying I owed them money for setting the linens. The lack of communication between vendor and new bride blew my mind! I would never recommend this company as no bride should have these worries the day before her big day.

We worked with Rachel at Total Events for the tables, chairs, tent, and decor for our wedding and she and the entire team went above and beyond!
We went through a few different revisions and worked through a few challenges and Rachel was happy to alter the plan. She was a huge help in offering creative solutions and expert opinions, too, which we greatly appreciated! No one tells you how many options you have and how many decisions you have to make when planning a wedding and Total Events made it very easy for us to choose the best option for everyone.

INCREDIBLE!! I can’t say enough wonderful things about this company! The company and Tommie (who I worked most closely with) just consistently went above and beyond to make sure that they could make our wedding the best day of our lives! Tommie took the time to meet with me on site (at the venue) and complete measurements and get a feel for our vision. She offered her own advice and suggestions that would improve the look of the venue. With regards to the cost of everything I wanted, Tommie really worked with me to distinguish between what I needed without going overboard! I really appreciated her honesty, diligence, thoughtfulness. She really made our day everything we wanted and more – She work alongside our wedding coordinator and communicated openly to set times to come in and put the venue together, as well as break it down in a timely manner. Tommie is terrific, tentative, prompt, reliable, and easy to talk to – communicating with her is like talking to a good friend except, Tommie is invested in making your wedding the most memorable, amazing day possible.

The fact that the deliveries and pickup as well as installation went so smoothly that we heard nothing about means it must have been well-handled. I found Total Events when my initial chair plan fell through. Well, this was my lucky day. Not only were their chairs more affordable, but they were way better quality. The team arranged an easy dropoff/pickup with my venue and these bistro chairs were a game changer. They absolutely made my wedding space come together! The event rental space is competitive and sometimes sketchy. We ended up going with our local vendor for our Chatham wedding but wished we had gone with Total Events. We were working with Rachel for our quote and she was very responsive and professional, always getting back to us quickly and being transparent. If only we could have chosen right from the beginning. Not only was I a bride of theirs and a personal "renter," I also am an Event Planner and they are my preferred vendor for everything from tables, chairs, tents, lights, decor rentals, and whatever else may come up that a client requests. Total Events, LLC were great to deal with. Got married at the Sagamore Resort in June 2014. They turned my thoughts and ideas in to my dreamy reality for my wedding day. Rented lanterns to hang from ceiling & lanterns for tables (Rustic/elegance effect) - it worked out beautifully! Rented chairs, (Chivari) with pads, glass chargers for tables - linens - everything I loved & they were very professional and kind to deal with. Kim Coon & staff do an excellent job. We used Total Events for our October 2014 wedding at The Fort William Henry in Lake George NY. From the first phone call, all the way until the wedding day, Megan and the entire staff was absolutely amazing. She helped me every step of the way and made the process so easy. They had everything I needed and wanted! We rented the tent for the ceremony, wine barrels, tables cloths, chivari chairs for the reception, grand chairs for the sweetheart table, votive candle holders and they also installed ceiling swag in the reception area. The transformation of the ceremony and reception area was breathtaking. I can't thank this company enough for everything they did for my husband and I on our wedding day. You guys are the best!

My husband and I worked with Megan from Total Events to transform the space at the Saratoga Springs City Center for our ceremony and reception. She immediately saw our vision and provided a detailed proposal within days of our first meeting. The prices were very reasonable based on our research and we discussed how to select the decor items (lighting, chairs, drapery, etc.) that would give us the most bang for our buck ... we didn't want to sacrifice our vision, but wanted to keep things reasonable. I worked with Megan and the team at Total Events for an event in December 2014 that I planned. They were fantastic! I couldn't have asked for a more efficient, professional and creative team to work with for my event. Knowing how particular I am, I know it was not an easy task. They absolutely amazed me by taking my vision and design for the event a step further and I could not have been more thrilled! I will absolutely use them again for future events.

I would never use this company again and would not recommend them to anyone. Their customer service is seriously lacking. After calling and emailing for weeks I finally got a response back about decor for my wedding. At the wedding, the decor didn't look like they described it would. Such a disappointment.

We rented our tent, tables and chairs from Total Events. I really felt as though we should have been told to rent a larger tent. There was no room under the tent for the caterer to place their tables for the food. Luckily we had our own separate tents that we were able to set up for the caterer to use. The tent also had a hole in the roof. We got the tent just in case it rained so the hole in the roof was not good. Luckily it didn't rain the day of our wedding.
Set up and take down of the tent went smoothly.

Some conversation with them went well, others did not. Rented centerpieces from them for the tables. Over paid and took weeks to get a refund. 2 weeks before the wedding they called and said they did not have enough centerpieces to decorate each table & needed to come pick another option.
