Worst experience ever! My cake cutting was ruined! Customer service was horrrible!! Worst I've ever experienced in my life! Cake was crooked and had air pockets in it!! I wasn't able to cut through my cake like a normal bride with her husband due to the cardboard and excessive fondant. No sympathy or apologies from the owner. Simply not his fault and would not even acknowledge he ruined that experience for me forever!! I Would never ever refer anyone to this place!! STAY AWAY! Please i never got to serve my cake to my guest and I wouldn't want any bride to experience the same! 😞
The only reason we are giving this vendor 2 stars instead of 1 is because the cake is absolutely delicious. If the only thing you care about is the taste of the cake, not the customer service or what the cake looks like, this could be the place for you. I had a two day period to choose a cake vendor when I was back in MKE for Thanksgiving last year. My mom and I went to a bunch of the fancier bakeries, but we did not like the flavor or consistency of those cakes. I had remembered my cousin had really good cake at his wedding, so we decided to check out his vendor - Rich's House of Cakes. This place is STRANGE - most of the cakes have dolls, light features, etc. It is wild. I was a little concerned they would not be able to do the very understated style of cake I wanted, but the woman who took my order ensured me they could. I provided multiple pictures to show how we wanted the cake to look - basically white with a strip of gold along the base of each layer. I paid the entire $800 for the cake to serve 200 people. Fast forward to about a month before the wedding. I called to confirm the details of the cake, delivery time, etc. I wanted to do this a few weeks before the wedding, because we were going to be travelling to MKE from Austin, TX for the wedding and had tons to do once we got back. When I called, Dave (the owner??) seemed extremely confused as to why I was calling and told me that if my wedding wasn't for another couple of weeks, he would not even be thinking about my cake at that time. He suggested I call back in a few weeks. He was generally pretty rude about it. Fast forward another couple of weeks, and I call to confirm the details on the cake. Dave says we are good to go for them to deliver the cake on Saturday. On Thursday, Dave leaves me a message saying that I need to call him ASAP because they need to know what kind of cake I want, how many people, etc. I had just talked to him a few days earlier. I call back, and he says they never took my order, claims the cake was maybe for 150 people even though I paid for 200, and they have no idea what kind of cake we want. Fortunately, I kept the copy of our handwritten order and read it to him. He did agree that we had already paid for 200 people and did not make us pay more. The ultimate rudeness, however, was when I asked if they could do the style of cake I requested. He told me point blank "maybe, not really sure, I don't really like that style of cake, so we'll see if I want to do that." Seriously? Also, no apologies for losing our order or not wanting to do the cake they had specifically told us they could do. We were dealing with a ton of other issues relating to the wedding at this point, and honestly, who cares that much about the cake, right? So I let it go. We get to the wedding venue on Saturday, and I kid you not, this thing looks like a 1st grade craft project. It was so messy and disgusting - it looked like they took a paint brush with silver glitter and painted a few strokes on the cake. It looked absolutely ridiculous. I wish these vendor reviews allowed for pictures so we could show what we wanted versus what we got. Remember, we requested solid gold paint/spray paint look and got sparse childlike silver glitter. All of that being said, we all agreed this is a pretty funny story that makes the cake pretty memorable. Just not in a good way. If the look of your cake matters to you at all or if you value customer service, STAY AWAY FROM THIS VENDOR!
Our cake was a highlight of the evening. It was beautiful and matched our theme perfectly. We had 2 flavors and they were both delicious. The staff is very easy to work with and will accommodate all of your needs.
I give this place 5 forks instead of stars. They made a beautiful wedding cake. It was exactly as I pictured it and they took all of my thoughts and put it into a masterpiece. The best part was the grooms cake I wanted a cake that looked like a slot machine with the theme of it to be NASCAR as my husband loves gambling and NASCAR. He created exactly what I wanted and for a extremely reasonable price. He was surprised and I received many compliments on how cool the cake was. Check this place out for anything from weddings, to birthdays, anniversaries, or just for a special treat. (Yes it tastes amazing to)
The cake was beautiful and the taste was delicious! All my guest loved it and asked for more!!! Thanks Dave!!!!
The cake was decorated with "extras" as the owner called them. I asked for ribbon only and I got some fake pearls and fake flowers on the cake. It was also frozen and unable to cut for all of our guests.
The cake was really good and I would buy again. It was a little disorganized with remembering who I was and my order, so I was a bit nervous but in the end they really did an amazing job!
We loved their cake!! Great pricing. Not so great on customer service, but otherwise great!
Not impressed.
They were difficult to communicate and depending on who you talked to, I got different information. Despite setting up a tasting, they were not prepared for me. I had driven from out of town for this. Not only were they not prepared, they were unprofessional. I seemed to be imposing on the sales associate and she clearly did not seem interested in securing our business. I had the emailed confirmation from the owner for the tasting, but she still kept telling me she doesn't do them instead of adjusting. She literally threw down an old piece of cake from the back on a napkin without a fork and walked away. Not impressed.
We had a tight budget for our wedding, we went into Rich's (in Waukesha) 3 weeks before our wedding, they gave us an AMAZING deal, they were having a horrible day (the freezers broke down) but you couldn't even tell. The service was over the top, and we were first priority. They made the cake how we wanted it (it was an odd cake request) and waived the delivery fee for us!
He made the cake exactly how we wanted it and it looked beautiful. It also taste great!!
