I was married at the Ritz Charles on 2/10/2024. It was a beautiful day, and the only mis-step being decorations we dropped off in advance were lost for several hours but were found. The reason for the 3 star review was how unnecessarily stressful and frustrating working with the Ritz was. Prior to the wedding if I had written a review, it would have been a 1 star review.
First, I feel that I was talked down to the entire wedding process from my venue contact. Every opinion I had or my husband had were wrong, and she would be sure to let us know. We were not impressed with the cocktail hour food options, so we requested having the “late night bites” served during cocktail hour. That would include mini corn dogs, mini tacos, and jalapeño poppers. We were told this was a bad idea because “we wouldn’t want the guests to think that would be their meal”. Considering my guests were provided with their meal choices when RSVPing, I don’t know how that could happen. We were also told we were wrong about how we wanted to distribute favors. We had custom matchbooks made, and we thrifted glassware to be put on the bar and cocktail hour tables for people to take them if they were interested. We were told we needed to put them at individual seats so people would take them. We explained we were okay if we had leftover favors, but she kept pushing us. We also didn’t want to pay extra for a second bar set up, and we were once again, wrong for that. We are glad we didn’t, as there was never a line. Makes us wonder if venue coordinators receive commission off of events.
Second, I believe they are very deceptive in their pricing. Part of the reason we chose the Ritz was so much is “included”, including linens and glassware. But, if you want a table cloth that covers a whole table instead of just the table top, that’ll be $20 a table. Maybe I’m naive, but if I’m paying over $17,000 for hosting my event at a venue, I shouldn’t have to pay to cover a whole table.
Third, they will not work with your schedule when it comes to meetings. You will be required to meet with the venue coordinator for final selections and the ceremony coordinator to go over the run of show. They will only meet with you between 9-5 and the absolute latest they’ll meet is 4:30. Luckily, my husband and I have jobs that allowed us to move our schedule around to accommodate these meetings. I understand they have business hours, but that doesn’t serve the customer well. I’ve gone on venue tours at 7 PM at other locations because that’s what worked best for us.
If you choose to book with the Ritz, hopefully your day is as beautiful as ours was. Just prepare for frustrating moments, and stick to your guns on what you want. You know what you want your day to look like and what your guests will need.
