Johnny and his co worker were awesome!!! We took advantage of both his DJing services and photo booth rental for our wedding. The photo booth was a huge hit, we used the photo strip print outs for our "guestbook" and everyone had so much fun with it. Johnny was right on schedule with the music and was super flexible. We ended up having pretty cold weather so i mentioned we may need to move things inside for the reception. I was obviously super busy but when he saw people migrating inside because of the weather he moved his station inside too. It was really nice to not have to worry about reminding him of the schedule or ask him to do anything. Would book again x 100. Thanks again!!!
I planned my CO wedding from out of state and spent a lot of time looking for a quality DJ at an affordable price. Rock Candy DJs was definitely one of the most affordable options, which made me a bit hesitant about how good they would be, but they had some good reviews online so we decided to go for it. I assure you, we were not disappointed. Rock Candy DJs is an exceptional value for the quality of DJs you receive. Our wedding DJ was Donnie, and he was awesome! He worked with us using their very easy online form ahead of time to make sure we had everything squared away. He was able to find us any songs that weren't in their database and got everything right on our wedding day. As for dance music, we put in a few requests but mostly asked him to play whatever the guests would dance to, and that he did! Our guests were dancing from the minute the music started until the very last song. He took requests, played music from across genres, and showed everyone a great time. We got so many compliments about how great our DJ was, and our parents even decided to tip Donnie extra at the end of the night because he'd done such a great job.
Our wedding ceremony got moved up 45 minutes due to weather, and Donnie was on it! He was ready well ahead of time with the ceremony music and even made it up to the reception site to get the music started early. I highly recommend Rock Candy DJs if you are looking for an affordable DJ who will do an outstanding job!
We met with Johnny at Rock Candy over Skype several months prior to our wedding. Since we were planning from across the country, we didn’t meet him in person until we got to our reception site after our ceremony. His planning website was very user-friendly, and every song that my bride and I thought to play at our reception was listed on the site, with links to hear each song. The site had lists for songs we definitely wanted played, songs we definitely DIDN’T want played and songs that we would like played if time permitted. We were also able to choose songs for our first dance, cake cutting, wedding party intro, father/daughter dances etc, right on the site. Though we didn’t need him to DJ the ceremony, there were options for choosing all the songs for the important moments in the ceremony as well. We even emailed him a last-minute request for the wedding party intro a few days prior to the wedding, and he found the song we wanted and had it cued up and ready.
I was somewhat worried that a very outgoing DJ would make my introverted family uncomfortable. I needn’t have been concerned. When it was time to get our guests up and moving, Johnny managed to do it in a way that was fun and energetic, without being pushy or inappropriate. Once he opened the dance floor, it was never empty. He was the perfect MC; when he needed to get peoples’ attention, he did, when he needed to be invisible, he was. Though we didn’t get a chance to rehearse any of the songs, a quick nod from me during the intro and first dance was enough to tell him that it was time to cut a song short, and it felt seamless.
The music was just as we hoped it would be. He managed to play about 90% of our “must play” playlist, and even refused to play a children’s song my brother-in-law requested for my nephew until he knew we were okay with it. There was only one song my bride was adamant that he not play. As a prank, I asked him to play it near the end of the night. I discreetly told all the guests to surround her and sing along loudly when the song came on. Her face when he told her it was a special request by the groom, and all our family and friends gathered around to sing, “Just a small town girl…” Priceless.
Bottom line, if I had to choose a DJ for our wedding again, I wouldn’t consider anyone but Johnny. When we started looking for a DJ, I told my bride that the only thing I really wanted was someone who would make our reception a fun party. Johnny understood exactly what we needed, and delivered. He even laughed at our lame jokes. He was fun, but professional.
I had to plan all of my wedding on my own from San Diego while my fiancé was deployed. Rockcandy was affordable and their online planning service worked great for us since we couldn't meet with the DJ face to face.
There was one instance where I couldn't get in touch with the DJ, but they contacted me as soon as they got my messages and everything else went off without a hitch. The DJ was even the first vendor at the venue when I did a walkthrough with all the vendors.
They adjusted things for us when we decided about a month or so out that we wanted to use them for the ceremony too. The DJ even accepted the dance song for me and my father the day of the wedding as he was setting up from my flash drive.
We had a very small wedding and all the guys left to smoke cigars at one point which I'm sure was hard for the DJ to get the few remaining people out on the dance floor. But he managed to keep the music and the energy up. He even was able to work in the song I wanted to dance with my mother on the fly.
In the end, I would recommend them to anyone looking for DJ service. If you are in the Denver, CO area, it will be much easier for you to work with them too.
Jeff and Johnny were phenomenal to work with the entire wedding planning process. We first met with Jeff, who was fun, upbeat and you knew right away he KNEW what needed to happen to make our wedding a success. They truly love what they do! We booked with RockCandy right away. Closer to the event we met our actual DJ, Johnny and I couldn't have been happier. The week prior he made sure we had everything we needed (photobooth, slideshow, grand entrance music which we made ourselves, etc) and I knew our event was going to go off without any problems. The music during the ceremony was perfectly played even when we had 5-6 different songs we wanted played at very specific times, the grand entrance was awesome and he made sure the entire night ran smooth. Everyone danced the night away! The dance floor was never empty once which is exactly what we hoped for. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and I would recommend them to any bride to be who wants to know they dont have to worry about this part of their wedding !
My husband and I met up with Jeff a couple months before our wedding. He sat us down and went through everything about the day of our wedding. RockCandy has a website that you can sign into and put in what songs you want for your first dance, the bouquet toss, cake, etc. Plus you can list what types of music you want for the cocktail hour, dinner, and the dancing, along with being able to request specific songs be played or not be played. Because my husband and I were not living in Colorado in the months leading up to our wedding, it was really helpful to be able to list all that stuff from our home in Virginia. We really enjoyed working with Jeff! He was friendly, helpful, and all of our decisions were noted down and carried out. Our reception music was awesome! Our guests danced the whole night and really enjoyed themselves. I highly recommend Jeff as a DJ- he reads the crowds really well and played a wide variety of different music. Plus he has done tons of weddings, so he was really helpful in deciding what things worked at a wedding and what didn't.
RockCandy uses a number of different DJs, especially in the summertime, so be sure you find out which specific DJ will be playing your wedding. Try to get Jeff if you can, because he is wonderful!
Jeff and Johnny at Rockcandy were both very accommodating. We used their Photo Booth, DJ services, up-lighting and they had a balloon drop and confetti cannons for our wedding. They were very concerned with making our ceremony and reception come off smoothly and exactly the way we wanted to. The price was great and there are many fun extras they are able to add to make your wedding or party a memorable event.
Jeff has been amazing to work with through the entire planning process. The music was pretty incredible as well, read the crowd very well, and the crowd loved them. I would recommend these guys to everyone.
Kept everybody dancing the whole night as promised. Literally no breaks on the dance floor. Excellent!
RockCandy was fabulous! From the beginning Jeff answered all of our questions and gave us a great planning form to use. It helped organize a ton of details for the wedding. He got songs that were not in his library to help make our event perfect (including a Lord of the Rings song!) He made last minute adjustments and even added things (like the dollar dance) during the night when our family requested it. We loved their flexibility and service!
Jeff was FABULOUS!! He was a perfect MC- totally kept the night flowing seemlessly no awkward down times. We only met w/ Jeff 2 times before the wedding but with in those 2 meetings he was able to get a perfect sense of the type of wedding we were looking to share with our family and friends. The online planner was awesome- totally help us get our ducks in a row with when to do what and what music we wanted when. Jeff even provided lists of suggested songs to help us pick the important first dances. He kept the dance floor full ALL night long- there was never a moment there wasn't someone "cutting a rug". Thank you Jeff- you truely know how to get the party started and to keep it going.
I have nothing but good things to say about Jeff and ROCKCANDY. He DJ'd our wedding as well as did up-lighting for our venue. When we first met him we told him we want to make sure the dance floor never really gets empty and he made sure people were dancing all night long. He was even able to download our first dance song from YouTube. Nothing we asked/requested was ever to much for him to handle.
He was always easy to get a hold of and even called us two days prior to the wedding just to go over everything one more time (definitely nice for brides that are OCD!)
I would definitely recommend ROCKCANDY for your event.
Rockcandy DJs (Jeff in particular) are amazing. My new husband and I had very complicated music requests, as we had many friends of ours (who are musical performers) sing with karaoke tracks throughout the night. We also had 3 different music locations for Jeff to set speakers and his equipment (outside, in the dining room, and in a downstairs ballroom), not to mention, a demanding mother of the bride and a perfectionist groom! We could not have been happier with Jeff's service. He was kind, patient, responsive, informative, and talented. There were no pauses between songs, and no point in which we had to remind Jeff of our elaborate musical plans. Going into our wedding day, Rockcandy was the one vendor whom we knew we could count on to deliver (based on the amazing customer service and helpful communications) and they surpassed our expectations. They also provided us with a great photo booth… complete with fun props and a friendly booth attendant. Not only was their service amazing, but their prices were very reasonable. We discussed prices with Jeff several months prior to our wedding and the price we discussed was the price we paid in the end. They never tried to nickel and dime us for the couple small things we added as we planned (a small guitar amp, for instance). Rockcandy has my very highest recommendation - and everyone who attended my wedding would agree!
Johnny from Rock Candy was the DJ at our wedding and he was wonderful!! I was very stressed the day of the wedding, but knowing Johnny was running the show made me so much calmer. He was professional, timely, fun, outgoing, kept to schedule, and kept the party going all night! Rock Candy was so easy to work with, personable, listened to what we wanted and were overall fantastic! Going with Rock Candy was one of the best decisions we could have made for our wedding!
From the start, Jeff and Johnny were so helpful and fun! We booked very last minute and they were patient and helped us through the most hectic week of our lives! We had an evening wedding and even after the guests had all gone home the DJ stayed and kept the party going for the rest of the evening! Even when it was just the bride and groom dancing :)
Johnny and Rocky Candy did an amazing job at our wedding. They were very helpful throughout the process from helping with our song selection to keeping the wedding running smoothly. Everyone loved the music and had a great time.
We had Johnny as the DJ for our wedding. He was awesome. He called us four days before the wedding to talk about the details. He also showed up early for the wedding ceremony.
The company allows 10 special request songs. However, there is no guarantee that they will get all the songs requested. Most of the other songs we requested were played during the reception.
The only improvement that could be made was for the ceremony music. We were outside and the speaker was a bit weak (almost sounding blown out) to reach out for everyone to hear. The reception music was great and sounded nice.
Rockycandy DJ was great to work with! The wedding was flawless.
Rockcandy is very professional and made sure my husband and I were very happy the entire day! They did a great job, and our guests gave them lots of compliments!
I though Rock Candy was wonderful , the DJ s helped move things along were very flexible and made the whole event fun for everyone. I was pleased with quality and professionalism of the service and happy with the variety of music they provided, they met my every need to have a great wedding. All my wedding guest were amazed and were telling us how good you were. I would defiantly Recommend Rock Candy to anyone with a wedding or a an event they want done Right!
We recently got married and Rock Candy were our only choice for DJ services. Johnny is amazing and so nice and easy to work with, as is everyone there I'm sure! Everything went off smoothly even at a venue that's kind of limited with electricity and can pose problems. From the officiant's mic and ceremony music to making sure the caterers had poured the champagne for the toasts, they were all over it! All of our music choices were delivered on cue and as we asked for. Johnny even waited for the limo to arrive so he could play the song we wanted to walk out to! I would highly recommend Rock Candy for their high level of service, attention to detail, kind and courteous and fun personalities and overall awesome job!
RockCandy did the music for our ceremony and the reception. We worked directly with Jeff. He was extremely responsive through the planning process and on the day of he put my mind at complete ease. He knew the flow of the event, provided some suggestions that really improved the night. Jeff was absolutely amazing and really adapted the music to the crowd and made the night amazing! I would recommend them to anyone for any event!
I met with the staff of RockCandy DJ in January. The staff said the DJ's had several hours of training. I expressed concern that the DJ would be corny or one that just sat back and did not motivate the crowd. They assured me this would not happen. They only book three events per weekend to ensure the best DJ's and availability and provide clients with a big play list. The Modern Package is to include a light façade and additional lighting. The up lighting, would include two colors and be placed around the room to enhance it.
January 22, 2011, I called RockCandy and to lock in my wedding date of October 1, 2011. Rock Candy informed me the DJ would contact me three weeks prior to my event.
September 12, 2011 (3 weeks prior to event), I e-mailed RockCandy asking when the DJ would contact me and what information to provide for up-lighting. I didn't get a response.
September 14, 2011, I sent a follow-up e-mail. Still no response.
September 22, 2011, I received a system-generated e-mail stating the DJ would get a hold of me three weeks prior to my event and my invoice was due 7 days prior to the event. I called RockCandy since we were within the three weeks and I had not heard from the DJ. They informed my DJ had not been decided on yet and would have him contact me as soon as he was.
September 25, 2011, after several of hours of looking through the play list, I submitted my requests. The owner e-mailed me back he received it and he would pass it to the DJ.
September 26, 2011, the DJ called. I asked him to arrive around 2:30 because of time restraints. He informed me he couldn't do that and would be there around 4:00. I asked about the schedule and he did not have one available. I asked what he needed for up lighting and he had no idea what I was talking about and said he would call his "boss".
Later, the DJ called with the schedule, changed his arrival time to 2:30, and there was a plan in place for up lighting.
Day of my wedding!
We arrived at the reception to no announcement. I were looking forward to being announced. The DJ only had a table, and minimum lighting. None of the items promised with the Modern package (extra lights, and light façade) were present. The up lighting was very minimal, one only in one color, and put in random places.
Now, its announcements time and he announces our best man and maid of honor incorrectly and forgets to announce the correct ones all together. These two were very important and they did not get the credit they deserved.
The DJ didn't have any of the music I requested available. He was downloading the music at the reception. He did not motivate any one to dance. He said very little and what he did say was initiated by me. People told me this was the worse DJ they have seen.
Toast time arrives and there are no wireless mics and he is not prepared to provide mics for the toast. The photographer had to get the mics and set them up. The maid of honor had to lean over the table because the mic did not reach.
Finally, there was suppose to be a money dance for my husband and me. He never did this. This is tradition with my family and I know several people were waiting for this. Missing the money dance cost my husband and I an unknown amount of money.
I have called and contacted the BBB and the company has yet to respond months later.
Rock Candy did not meet expectations. The speakers malfunctioned during the ceremony, the very heavy main speaker fell on to the dance floor during the evening narrowly missing guests, the must play music list was not played, and the night generally was chaotic as the DJ did not follow the event planner that Rock Candy requested that we provide. I felt like I spent the entire night reminding the DJ what the next event was and the groom's speech was completely omitted! Additionally, several guests commented that the songs were not played in a sequence that one would expect from a dj, so the dance floor was never packed. I contacted management about my concerns before writing this review, but they were completely indifferent to my concerns, so I'm writing this to warn other brides- there are definitely better djs out there!
We used Rock Candy for both the wedding ceremony and the reception. As another reivew said we had a very hard time getting in contact with our DJ. We would call the main office and they would say they gave him our information and he should be calling. Then they said they were moving offices and it would be a couple of days. When it was about 2 weeks until our wedding we called the office again and they seemed surprised we had not heard from the DJ. They gave us a new DJ who called immediatly.
The day of the wedding was awesome. They did not have any problem getting the songs we wanted that they did not have. I do not have a single complaint. The dancing started with the very first song and nobody left the dance floor until the night was done! The whole night went so smoothly.
Find another DJ. They were the worst vendor we worked with... check out all the bad reviews on Yelp- I wish I would have done the same before my wedding.
I'll list some negatives first: we had a very hard time getting in touch with our DJ - he was not good at returning calls and that got me pretty freaked out as we got to the end of planning - and our "custom choice" songs didn't get played at the reception - basically they said we could request songs not in their database but then didn't play those.
Now that those are said: the prices was great, our DJ kept the crowd going strong all night, he took care of all the announcements which was great, and overall the night went beautifully. I see that a lot of people have problems with the "special effects" type things but we didn't use any of those so I can't comment. All we had was reception music.
Final word: Was it perfect? No, there are things I would have liked slightly different. Was it still great and helped make the night fun and wonderful? Most definitely :)
Jeff at RockCandy did a great job, he played requests by our guests and had a good sense for predicting what we might like to hear. The online planner by RockCandy is great to have all the details finalized in advance.
I LOVE the owner of this business and he is a great guy and runs his business well. Joel (the owner) helped us set up our online planner, helped get our ceremony music in order(guitarist) and let us rent his huge generator(our wedding was on my parents ranch.)Joel was going to be our DJ for the day of until a family emergency came up, which is totally understandable. Then George happened. George was the replacement DJ and he was terrible! He was the only vendor that didn't come out to our ranch and scope it out before the day of and then had the nerve to tell our guests that all of his mishaps were our fault due to our lack of a wedding planner.
Mishap 1: George called me, the bride, 45 minutes before I was supposed to say "I do" and told me he was lost. Luckily I was a relaxed bride and I told him how to get to our ranch.
Mishap 2: Due his lack in planning and late arrival, we didn't have sound for our ceremony. Our officiant wasn't mic'ed and our musician didn't have any type of sound. Everything turned out beautifully, but it was all in no thanks to George.
Mishap 3: George came up to me at the reception and asked me what order I wanted him to do things in. Good thing we spent so much time on the online planner, apparently it was useless. Luckily, my "non wedding planner," the friend organizing the wedding, had a print out of our "order of events" to give to George.
Mishap 4: We hear the song "If I had a Million Dollars" at least two times. There was no organization of music. We spent time creating the list of what to play and what not to play and the genre of music we wanted played and that was clearly not taken into account. We heard ONE of our songs that we had on the "Playlist"
Mishap 5: Vendors should never complain about the wedding to a guest. Clearly the guest is a friend or family of the couple. THE WILL HEAR ABOUT IT. George was rude to guests and the bridal party the whole time!!!
In light of all of that, the generator which was powering our whole reception lost power twice. This did not bother us, it is something that happens, we just rolled right through it. Even though all of that happened, I still had a great night and the guests didn't really realize George's mishaps.
I would still TOTALLY recommend RockCandy, just make sure you stay away from George!!!!
Great set up, music selection & tons of fun. Everyone was out on the dance floor until the venue kicked us out.
Rockcandy Professional Disc Jockeys was the worst company I have ever worked with in my life. First, we were informed that our DJ would keep in touch so that the day of our wedding would be perfect... we did not hear from our DJ until the week of our wedding. Then when I finally got a hold of him he was completely disorganized and basically had no idea about what was going on. I had given him a list of specific songs to play during the wedding and he might have played about 5 of them. The day of the wedding was the absolute last straw. Our DJ was completely rude and disrespectful to our guests and when my husband's best man requested for the DJ to organize a dollar dance he flat out said "No". On top of all this horror, he played the most inappropriate music all night long including songs like "S&M" by Rihanna. I tried contacting the company after the wedding and was told that the owner would contact me, I'm still waiting for that phone call. I am not generally a picky person and I absolutely adored all my other vendors, but I strongly advice anyone who is considering hiring Rockcandy to go another choice.
Our DJ Donnie was really fun. Everyone commented on the great selection of music. My only issues was that they called the day before to say they couldn't find the song my father had picked for the father-daughter dance, and that a couple of our special requests got missed. But overall it was great, a little bit of something for everyone.
Our DJ showed up early and really helped us out by providing speakers at the ceremony last minute. I would recommend them. Lots of song choices and professional.
This DJ did not blow my mind. They have you fill out playlists before the event, but he didn't end up playing a lot of our requested songs. Also, he seriously screwed up the ceremony music- everything was out of order, stopping and starting. I don't think guests noticed, but I did. That being said, my guests had a great time, but it's the little things going right that make your day go that much better.
