First off - the food for our wedding was delicious, and all of our guests loved their dishes. Root Cellar catering was easy to work with, and their crew was highly professional. There were no issues the day of our wedding and managed to accommodate our guests' needs. Leading up to the wedding, both Vanessa and Megan were great to work with during the tasting and planning. They were both patient and understanding while we scrambled with many other details. Overall, I would highly recommend Root Cellar for wedding and other events. They are professional and great at what they do, and it gives you peace of mind when planning and coordinating a big event.

Root Cellar was great to work with from the beginning. They were easy to communicate with and their staff (both servers and bartenders) on the day of our wedding was phenomenal. We chose action stations and because of our guest count, we were required to have four (probably could've done fine with three), which made things a bit pricey, but the food was all delicious and we got lots of good comments about our choices. Best of all, they were able to provide a Blue Bell ice cream bar - my now-husband's only request!

We chose Root Cellar Catering after always going to their main cafe in San Marcos. While planning the wedding we were told multiple times "when I go to a wedding I don't leave talking about how good the food was but about the event." I am confident people left our reception RAVING about how good our food was. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. The food could not have been better. We went with the buffet option, It was efficient and did not take away anything from the quality of food. Their team was communicative and on point with everything we asked. We could not thank them more for such an amazing job. If you go with any other catering company you are making a mistake.

Root Cellar did a spectacular job catering our wedding. We got so many compliments from guests, especially about the salmon dish as a main course and the artichoke fritters were a huge hit as an appetizer. The biggest hit was the mojitos their bartenders made, these were our signature drink and many guests said they were so good that was all they drank the whole event! We had a great experience working with Root Cellar leading up to the wedding. The tasting was great and helped us adjust the menu, including deciding to include that special salmon dish! We went back and forth on many details and small changes and appreciated their help in getting all the right amounts of everything. They also accommodated having a meal served early specifically for the bride and groom right after the ceremony in our private space, which was executed perfectly on the day of. Thank you, Root Cellar, for doing such a great job for our wedding!

We had a wonderful tasting and experience with Root Cellar! Their communication prior to wedding day was stellar, and our guests enjoyed the food + drinks on our wedding day. They are pleasant to work with, and as a local planner, I refer them to my clients frequently!

We used Root Cellar for our 10 year anniversary and they did a PHENOMENAL JOB!! The Jerk Chicken was the best ever. They also had an empanada station for us as well as an oyster shucking station. All of our guests LOVED it!! And the ceviche passed during cocktail was sinfully delicious. I ate four of them :) I basically gave them a description of the vibe we wanted and Chef Megan went from there with our menu design. It was phenomenal.

Vanessa and the whole team at the Root Cellar were absolutely fantastic! We originally went with them because we love supporting woman-owned businesses whenever we can, and because their pricing was very reasonable next to their competitors. And we're so happy we did! They really listened to our vision and made it a reality. Vanessa put so much thought and time into our wedding, responding to our countless emails, taking our phone calls, and sitting with us at our tasting. The food was also terrific! Our guests are still raving about how delicious everything was, especially the salmon. Working with the Root Cellar was just an all-around great experience. As vendors, they were easy and communicative and as people, they were just the sweetest. Thank you all so much for helping make our wedding day as beautiful as it was!

We cannot recommend root cellar enough. As TXST alum, we were looking forward to hiring root cellar. But they went above and beyond our wildest dreams. We hired them for our catering and bartending services and they knocked it our of the park! Not only did we get a lot of compliments from guests regarding the food options, but the bartenders did a great job of catering to our guests throughout the evening. We are so thankful for Vanessa (who was available and communicative throughout the entire process) and the entire root cellar team!

We had a great experience with Root Cellar for our wedding on 2/24/22. We were immediately drawn to them after our initial tasting because the food was so incredible! Our choices were passed appetizers: mac & cheese topped with bacon, pulled pork taco, veggies & hummus. Entrees: rosemary orange chicken (so good) & braised short ribs. Late night snack: chicken & waffles. The team was very responsive and great at communicating from start to finish. The staff the day of our wedding was incredible! Everyone was so friendly - from bar tenders to the food runners. We ended up having very unfortunate weather on our wedding day and our dinner was in a winter tent at the venue but it was really cold. My dinner was still very hot when it was brought to me, so that was great! I did not get to try any appetizers or the late night snack but we received quite a few compliments on them. Amazing experience overall and I'd highly recommend Root Cellar for your catering needs! We also used them for our 2021 Thanksgiving dinner.

We strongly recommend anyone and everyone schedule a tasting with Root Cellar, make it a fun date, spend a little time in downtown San Marcos, and be ready to book them for your next event. Their execution at our wedding was top-notch, their pricing was reasonable, and their staff members were fun. We will be heading to their restaurant soon so we can enjoy their food again soon.

Vanessa Vass (Sales Director) was one of my absolute favorite vendors to work with. She is always willing to hop on the phone or talk through your vision, budget, and expectations. The vendors were excellent and the food couldn’t have been any better. My daughter wanted to use them because it was her favorite place to eat during her college years and we still meet there when able. We received many compliments on the food and signature drinks they provided. Eileen H

Choosing Root Cellar as our caterer was the one of the best choices we made for our wedding in Manor! We had an amazing tasting experience with Megan (owner and lead chef) and she helped us design the perfect menu for our price point. For appetizers, our guests raved about the guacamole and salsa bar and the mac & cheese with honey peppered bacon. We chose buffet style for the entrees, which was efficient and attentive to dietary restrictions. The chicken and waffles for the late night snack was a delicious addition to the evening! Vanessa Vass was our amazing direct point of contact that so responsive and helpful! The Root Cellar staff helped the day run so smoothly, including little details like creating delicious watermelon infused water for our guests. I cannot recommend Root Cellar enough - from the first point of contact with Vanessa to the amazing tasting with Megan to our absolutely perfect wedding day, Root Cellar was a dream to work with! Let me start by saying - finding the perfect caterer was one of the most daunting tasks in our wedding planning journey. We got quotes from so many caterer's, it made our heads spin, but we finally narrowed our selection down to three. The first caterer we tried had us running for the hills, but the next day we had our tasting with Root Cellar. When we sat down with Megan (owner and lead chef), we immediately felt at ease. Before bringing any food in, she sat and talked to us about our wedding wants & needs. Then she brought out salads and told us while we ate our salads, she would be in the kitchen finishing cooking our entrees. Yes - everything is cooked fresh and this is how it will be at your event! They prepared everything on-site at our wedding to assure the quality and freshness of the food. This was huge to us and we just felt so relieved. Not to mention, during our tasting Megan told us her recipes for her creations and we immediately understood why everything tasted SO good. Everything was cooked with love and care - this is not your frozen, toss-it-in-the-oven and serve type of food. It is upscale, quality food with a hint of comfort. Needless to say, we cancelled our tasting with the third caterer. So while Megan is the magician behind the cuisine, then there is Vanessa. Vanessa is kind of like your own personal catering coordinator guardian angel. I can't even count how many times I changed my mind or asked her to revise our catering proposal. (I wanted to see options for buffet vs. family style vs. plated dinners, with bar service and without, X amount of appetizers and china, etc.) and without hesitation Vanessa was there to help answer all of my questions with such grace. You don't find this level of service with just anyone - the Root Cellar team is like a breath of fresh air! Now for wedding day! We decided to do a plated dinner for our reception with hand passed appetizers during cocktail hour. Our appetizers were: chicken & waffle bites, mini crab cakes and fresh tomato bruschetta . For the entree: rosemary focaccia bread, berry bleu salad, spinach artichoke whole roasted chicken & creamy pesto pasta. Our wedding was two months ago, and we still have guests telling us how good the food was. The best feeling was sitting down with my new husband and just watching the Root Cellar team come out and serve our guests. It honestly felt like we had a small army working for us, making sure the dining experience was perfect - which it was. If you want great food, a positive planning experience and a high level of professionalism, Root Cellar is the way to go. If you are on the fence, believe me: book a tasting! You will not regret it.

Root Cellar Catering was amazing from the start. They are everything you want in a caterer: delicious food, excellent service, artistry and affordable! From the beginning, Megan and Vanessa warmly welcomes you to the experience they provide with an awesome tasting. Our passed hors d'oeuvres were amazing, the meals were absolutely delicious down to the starter salads, the signature drinks were a big hit, and the late night snack option (we had the popcorn bar!) was something our guests raved about all night. Our guests were so happy about everything! To top it all off, the service of their staff was 10/10. They were all so kind and friendly. From the bartenders to the wait staff, everything went seamlessly! In sum, Megan and Vanessa will take care of you and make sure their job is done very well. We are so lucky to have had Root Cellar as our caterer; you would be remiss not to book them right now!

The food was INCREDIBLE! Megan and Vanessa were so easy to work with and so accommodating. My husband and I loved the tasting we had with them; it was like a date night! Our only issue was with the serving staff, they did not distribute the cake properly to our guests, and many of them (including my husband and I and both our families) did not receive cake at all :( that was pretty disappointing. I still wouldn't have chosen any other catering company for our big day. Well done Root Cellar and thank you!

It's hard to even know where to start, so I'll start at the beginning: Vanessa Vass was our point of contact for our wedding. She was incredible to work with. She was always prompt in her replies, always had answers to my questions and was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and organized about every detail of our event. We were getting married at home and the reception was in our large warehouse garage. Before the wedding, she toured the space and gave pointers about the best placement for everything. The food was beyond amazing. We had NY Strip Loin, Rosemary Orange Chicken and Orzo for the vegetarians. The taco in a bag was the perfect late night snack for everyone on the dance floor too! The kids raved about the Mac & Cheese. The presentation was gorgeous- I truly wouldn't change a thing about the menu- it was perfect! As wonderful as all of that was, I especially want to rave about the staff who was there that night. They were on top of everything- absolute pros. They were clean and organized and they left the place looking better than when they arrived. But the best part was how much they actually participated in our event. Each and every one of them made our special night even more wonderful. They were funny and friendly and engaging and so much fun to be around. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to share our day with. I wish I knew all of their names so I could specifically thank each one of them for the special moments we shared throughout the night. Root Cellar has got a really special group of people who obviously love what they do and put their heart and soul into making everyone at the event feel like family. Everyone raved about the bartender and how she made the best Shirley Temples from scratch for the kiddos (in addition to every other yummy adult beverage). The most memorable moment of the night was when their chef, Bryan, actually participated in a hilarious joke our friend did for the toast... that part was so unexpected, I was ROLLING with laughter. My special night just wouldn't have been the same without each and every one of them! If you're looking for a caterer for your special day, you can seriously stop looking. You simply won't have a more wonderful experience- from start to finish- than you will with Root Cellar Catering!

Absolutely love these guys. The food is so incredible and the team is lovely. Everyone is so nice and fun to work with. Megan the head chef is something of a genius in the kitchen. All of her dishes are BOMB. The tasting and catering experiences they provide are top notch and I could not recommend them more.

When we were planning our small 14 guest wedding we wanted it to feel like a dinner party with REALLY good food. Megan & her team at Root Cellar created the MOST AMAZING wedding meal (and morning- after brunch) for us. They made accommodations for our vegan and nut-allergy guests and we could not have asked for anything more! The menu included browned butter scallops with lemon risotto, beef tenderloin with fingerling potatoes, delicious family style asparagus and brussel sprouts, and so much more. They even created two perfect cocktails, a blackberry whiskey lemonade and elderflower gin sour. We would definitely recommend Root Cellar to anyone and really hope to come up with an excuse to work with them again.

Root Cellar was amazing to work with! Vanessa answered every single question I had by email and phone for over a year and half (bless her). Our tasting with Megan was DELICIOUS. We chose to do their mac and cheese and southern BLT sliders for passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour. Dinner was their salad, roasted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans. The food tasted amazing at the tasting and just as good on our wedding day. They made sure that the bride and groom actually ATE, which usually doesn't happen. All of the leftover food was packaged up so that we could also eat it the next day...it was still just as good reheated! Every time a vendor asked who our caterer was they always said something about how delicious Root Cellar's food is and that we made a great choice by picking them. They were right and we couldn't have been happier with Root Cellar's communication, the food and service at the wedding, and doing it all during a pandemic!

You will never find better wedding food in the Austin area than Root Cellar! My husband and I went to Texas State and knew we couldn't go wrong with choosing Root Cellar! The food was INCREDIBLE and the staff was amazing. Vanessa was also very quick at responding to emails and answering any questions that we had! Highly recommend!!

I looked at so many catering vendors for our wedding, but I kept coming back to Root Cellar. Their aesthetic and amazing-looking food was what drew me in, and then when got to go to a tasting, that sealed the deal. My husband and I still talk about the tasting as one of our favorite wedding planning experiences! Throughout the process, they were so communicative. Special shout-out to Vanessa and Megan, who were wonderful to work with. The day-of went perfectly as well -- they arrived on time, had everything set up beautifully, and the food was phenomenal.

All my guests could talk about was the food!!! So, we stumbled upon Root Cellar on the Knot and decided to book a tasting. Unfortunately, my husband and I had our engagement session on one of the only times they could do a tasting, so my mom went for us. She said Megan was absolutely wonderful and helped with different ideas. Megan packed a to-go box of everything for my husband and I. We heated everything up in the microwave later that night and the food was PHENOMENAL. We booked with them right then because if the food was that good hours later out of a microwave then we could not even imagine what it tasted like freshly made. After booking, Vanessa was the best at communication and even helped us outside of her hours when our venue cancelled on us 3 months out from our wedding!! She really eased our anxiety and worked with the new venue in the short time she had. The service staff was very polite and working hard all night at the wedding. We kept hearing from people how you never get to eat at your own wedding...well, we made it a point to sit and eat and let me just say it was absolutely delicious. I would've had 4 more plates if time had allowed. All of our guests were raving about the dinner that night and even the next day. A good majority of my side of the family is from the Austin and greater Austin area and we are all talking about getting together and going to their restaurant in San Marcos!! If there was a 6th star option, I would give it to Root Cellar. Don't even hesitate on booking with them. Do it and you will not regret it.

Megan and the Root Cellar team were fantastic and our dinner was beautiful and delicious! We heard so many rave reviews from our guests. My sister is already trying to recreate one of the entrees and my dad single handedly got our money’s worth from the ice cream bike. We looked around a bit for caterers and found Root Cellar to be reasonably priced compared to others without the "wedding factory" feel. They were flexible and more than happy to suggest options that fit our event and budget. Our venue didn't have much of a kitchen on site, so they essentially created their own - it was incredible. We did family-style service which worked great for our set up and crowd. The food highlights for us were the jalepeño orange chicken and the mac & cheese with bacon. AMAZING. I highly recommend Megan and her team. They're incredible!

Fantastic!!! I had so many compliments for weeks and weeks after! "Best food we've ever had at a wedding" Everyone kept saying. And to be completely honest my husband and I took all the leftovers with us and that was the only thing we ate for the next 4 days. It never got old. Everything tasted wonderful and Megan is great! Highly highly recommend!

We chose Root Cellar not only because the food is fantastic but also because we are former Bobcats and it was a special spot for us. The price for their catering too, cannot be beat! The food was excellent, from horderves to the main meal! All of the food was fresh, well made, and hot. I ordered a lot of healthier food - lots of vegetables, but my guests loved it all! They went back for seconds! They also did a nice job with table setting and matching my color scheme.

Everything from the tasting to the day of the wedding was delicious and perfectly coordinated. We were given plenty of options during the tasting and all of them were tasty! It was hard to decide! Megan was easy to talk to and made sure we were happy with our decision. Vanessa helped coordinate everything with our venue and answered all of our questions promptly. Our day of staff was great, as well. They were personable, efficient, and professional. They knew exactly when and how things should be prepped. And most importantly, the food was perfect! It came out exactly as we wanted and tasted just as good as it did during our tasting.

I would like to start by saying, my husband and I spent our college days in San Marcos eating at the Root Cellar. We loved the food, and when I went in search for a caterer for our big day, I was shocked to see Root Cellar was now a catering option. I reached out, in pure nostalgia, after my wedding planner said how amazing the team would be to work with, and had no idea what I was about to stumble upon. The team at Root Cellar was beyond my wildest expectations. I truly am still in awe of how perfect, and I mean perfect, everything was. I was dead set on doing something untraditional regarding the menu and setup. Megan and team, you’re amazing! You not only met, but exceeded every idea or thought I could have possibly come up with, without any hesitation! You went above and beyond creating such a special menu completely on your own for our special day, people literally around the world are still talking about! We are so grateful for the time and effort you spent and for everyone else involved in the process from the food, to our delicious and perfect cake! The food Megan lovingly made was Austrian/German, and having about 15 Austrians in attendance, we were so happy to hear that not only they loved it, but our most picky Austrian complemented the Schnitzel to the point he said it was similar to his grandmothers. This is one of the highest compliments one can receive. Anyone wondering about giving Root Cellar a try, please do. I literally worried about nothing, and my guests got to feast on what was some of the best food I’ve had to date.

Root Cellar was amazing! Since my daughter and her husband are Texas State Alumni they have fond memories of this restaurant. They had lived in Austria several years and wanted to incorporate some of the foods from that country. Megan created a menu with brats, schnitzel, beef goulash and a late night pretzel bar. It blew us away at the tasting and we didn’t look any further. We also got the wedding cake from Root Cellar and along with Megan’s apple strudel and cream horns, it made a beautiful dessert table. Megan and her team were so great to work with and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a caterer! Also, of the 12 Austrians that attended the wedding they all loved the food! That just shows you what an excellent chef she is! Bravo Megan!

Absolutely phenomenal! Root Cellar was amazing! They did our catering, our wedding cake, and our venue! We had a small wedding dinner reception at the Root Cellar Bakery and everything was a dream! Vanessa and Ashley were awesome to work with and made it a point to have everything go as planned! Our guests LOVED the food and cake; they raved about it all night! I am so happy with the service and quality of food we received from Root Cellar Catering!! They were by far the most reasonably priced catering company I got a quote from, the food at the wedding tasted as good as the food at our tasting (super delicious) and they were super responsive via email to all my questions/updates. I also used them for our cake which was very convenient. Would highly recommend them to other brides!!

We still can't stop talking about how amazing Megan and her team are. From the start, she was a dream person to work with. And we knew because we had already researched over 10 other vendors before we found her. From the moment of our first interaction with Megan, we were giddily excited. She was clearly an artist looking to use our tastes/preferences to create a magical meal. The first phone call we had we shared about flavors we love. Then we came in for a tasting where her dishes blew us away. We were so impressed with her, her food, and her team, that we also hired them to serve food at our rehearsal dinner. The Root Cellar team is an incredible delight to work with, being reliable, knowledgeable, incredibly friendly/warm, and delivering exceptional food. We expect to remember them for the rest of our lives when we reminisce on our wedding day. Simply put... wonderful.

When looking for a caterer for our wedding, I was just hoping to find excellent food. When we met with the Root Cellar though, we found not only excellent food but also marvelous people! I'm not sure if it's normal to want to be best friends with your caterer after your wedding but that's how I felt after working with Megan and Vanessa. They were such a joy to be around and made the wedding planning process a breeze! The food Megan prepared for our wedding was insanely delicious. I'm still dreaming about the mac and cheese. I want to host more parties in the future just to work with them again!

The Root Cellar Cafe has always been one of my favorite places to eat and when my daughter suggested they cater her wedding it was an obvious “yes”! Their food was delicious and I love that ingredients are locally sourced. The catering manager Vanessa and the executive chef Megan were both delightful to work with and made great suggestions. The staff was attentive and made sure our guests dining experience was exceptional!

(used them for catering and bar service) I had originally met them at the bridal expo in Austin and from the very beginning they were incredibly easy to work with, accommodating and very responsive. Every detail from the tasting, meeting with Megan the Executive Chef to our wedding went incredibly smooth, they made us feel comfortable and the food was DELICIOUS! We've been eating at Root Cellar for awhile now (the restaurant ambiance is lovely), and since we and many of our guests are Texas State alumni, we wanted to tie our undergrad and years spent in San Marcos to the wedding. The food selection was much more flavorful and curated than the usual wedding menu that other caterers have. The tasting was great and Megan, the chef, is ready to listen and bounce ideas around. The day of the wedding, they were right on time, and the food was served so fresh and hot. The menu created tasted like fall and the southwest with items like chicken with oranges and jalapenos; roasted potatoes; and creamy mac n cheese. EVERYONE, from the guests to the dj and photographer LOVED IT!! Check them out!! Tip: Family style service (food in center of table with guests passing bowls around) really makes the dinner much more intimate and cozy.

We LOVED Root Cellar. They were so attentive and prompt about set up and helping us choose our menu. We heard nothing but positive reviews from friends and family after our wedding too. The staff was on it and kept following up with us throughout the ceremony to make sure everything was going smoothly for us. Love those horse radish mash potatoes!

The Root Cellar stuff and lead were really nice and great to work with. The food looked wonderful and all of my guests were going back for seconds!
