I will start with the good and say that the venue is absolutely beautiful. It is a great location with a beautiful view of Lake Travis and the sunset. Valet parking is a plus as the parking lots are located up a rather steep hill.
We had been told prior to the event that they would spray for mosquitos but apparently they didn’t do that before our event as many guests were getting bit by mosquitos and/or chiggers (on the lawn). Even though we paid for extra string lights and had candles on every table, it was very dark in some places. The more well lit places were due to the installed floodlights but they were harsh on some people’s eyes, based on the location of some of the dinner tables. I would recommend more string lights and less floods or positioning dinner tables where they are not in a direct line of the floodlights.
The yacht club brings in an outside vendor (event planner) to handle large crowds, Valerie Miller Events. Where Nicolete was great in the planning aspects, there were several things that we were disappointed with at the event itself with regard to their staff. The food line moved slowly and it took a long time for guests to get their food. 2 table lines would have been better in my opinion, for 140 people. They were slow to replenish when condiments got low (in fact a guest had to go find someone to tell them about it) holding up the line even more. With that said, the food was good and many guests commented on that fact. The open bar ran out of several things thru out the night when it should have been stocked well from the beginning. There was a 30 minute window during speeches when the bartenders had plenty of time to assess their inventory and replenish their stock but they didn’t. They did replenish when running out of soda early in the evening but that still took time with guests having to wait. Then 25 minutes before the bar closed, they ran out of some key alcohol items. Several guests told me about this and I witnessed it myself. They did not replenish these items. Guests had to choose something else or walk away. When I expressed my disappointment about this after the event to both our planner and the owner of the Company, they would not take responsibility for the fact that it happened. In fact they said it wasn’t true. That’s a shame. I believe that when something goes wrong, just take responsibility for it, apologize, learn from it and move on. Excuses and denial are not the answer. For this reason, I wouldn’t use this events company again.
Rough Hollow was exactly the destination I was looking for to host my wedding! We stayed at Lakeway Resort and Spa and held the ceremony and reception at Rough Hollow. What I loved most about the weekend is that it felt like a destination wedding but not too far from home. The Rough Hollow grounds are gorgeous and paired with a great sunset you can't go wrong. All of my guests loved the ambiance of the evening and it all felt very special!! I wish I could share some photos of the evening because it was absolutely gorgeous. Valerie Miller Events handles the coordination when you book the venue and Nicolet did a great job of communicating and planning with me up until the big day. Once the day arrived she did an excellent job of keeping everything on track and I hardly noticed her as everything went very smoothly with their staff! If you are looking for a special location for your wedding give this place a look you won't regret it! My only suggestion would be to keep in mind that the summer months get hot and the pavilion does not have AC, plan a spring or fall wedding and this is your venue!!
Amazing location, beautiful views, they were very accommodating. My wedding was amazing!
I LOVE ROUGH HOLLOW. This venue provided the exact romantic atmosphere and incredible ambiance we were aiming for. It has a very tropical/destination wedding feel due to the palm trees and lake overlook. The sunset on our wedding day could make hearts melt on its own. I also love how easy it is to accommodate all the guests with the nearby housing options. World of Tennis Condominiums were a great option for housing multiple guest at a reasonably priced condo. Jodi Croft with Valerie Miller Events was my direct wedding coordinator and I really valued her as an integral part of our wedding planning and execution. We had nothing to worry about the day of because Jodi is the wo-man and had everything down to a tee.
Absolutely beautiful venue. The staff is very professional and helpful and our guests loved the sunset view over Lake Travis.
Absolutely breathtaking is the perfect way to describe Rough Hollow Yacht Club. It is a picture perfect venue. I'm not typically at a loss for words - but I am so overwhelmed at how perfect our wedding was at Rough Hollow Yacht Club that all I can do is smile about it. The sun started to set while we were doing cocktail hour and I know ever single one of our guests stood on the back of the Pavilion taking pictures. All of our guests who have posted their pictures, they all look amazing (and our guests are all good looking) but mainly the backdrop makes them all amazing pictures! Valerie Miller Events was a true blessing in planning our wedding. There are so many things going on on your wedding night it's tough to keep track of time (because a watch does not go with the dress) Valerie Miller Events made sure we knew exactly when we needed to cut the cake, when the speeches were being made, made sure the Groom and I were comfortable and happy the entire night. I must say, being the Bride is an amazing feeling, but being a Bride at Rough Hollow Yacht Club made me feel truly special.
We had our wedding almost a month ago, the venue is AMAZING. Our ceremony was on the lawn as the sun was setting and even for a June wedding it wasn't too hot! We picked the venue because we wanted an outdoorsie wedding, but the breeze is always great there. We worked with Valerie Miller events planning the entire thing which was great, however I have a few complaints. I know that there is never a perfect wedding day, and you will always have something go wrong. That being said, I would recommend finding your own DJ, we used the one that Valerie Miller recommended and he was terrible. He just had a laptop that he played songs off of, and talked to one of the coordinators assistants the entire time. He wasn't a real DJ, I could have made a playlist myself and he always didn't start to play our recessional music until we were already back down the isle.
We cut our cake and I would say only 40% of the wedding guests ever saw it. They served the cake on plates and put them on a table, but never informed anybody where to go get it. I had tons of people ask me where the cake was. VERY irritating.
My last complaint is, the venue time ends at 10:40.
They lied to us and said it could be over at 11, but they played the final song at 10:37 and we started for our exit. The Grille onsite is where we had our after party and it was perfect because the guests that we actually really wanted to spend time with, and talk to came there and we had a low key rest of the night.
The Venue itself is PERFECT. plus you get coordinating services from VME so it's really a great price. I would just recommend finding your own vendors and not using the people that VME suggests (EXCEPT the cake and florist, they were great!)
Hope this helps!
What a gorgeous, yet simple venue! Right on Lake Travis with gorgeous views of the Hill Country! We had our wedding and reception inside the pavilion and at sunset, it looked amazing. We mainly worked through our wedding coordinator for everything regarding this venue (set up, catering from the Grille, tables, chairs, etc). Everything turned out perfect. If you are looking for a venue that doesn't require a lot of decorating b/c the venue itself is already gorgeous, then this is right up your alley! The price INCLUDES: venue rental, round tables, cocktail tables, reception and gift tables, day-of-coordinator from Valerie Miller Events, and you work with the restaurant onsite for your catering needs.
