Steve is one of the most helpful, genuine, and considerate people we have ever met. We were so excited for our wedding in June, but decided to postpone due to Covid-19. Steve was more than accommodating and offered to transfer our wedding to next year at no extra cost. The venue is gorgeous and we wouldn't think of getting married anywhere else!
My daughter was going to have her weeding here, which she had paid her deposit a little over a year, she had a hardship and had to cancel her wedding here at the garden 9 months prior to her wedding and they refused to give her back any part of her deposit, which was close to $3000. BEWARE of this place! The owner said that there deposit was considered a gift! I would not recommend this place at all!
Secret Garden is gorgeous!! It’s so unbelievably beautiful! It’s a little oasis in the middle of city- it really is magical and its name is so true! There are so many secret beautiful garden areas, sitting areas to discover.
Steve was great to work with. He’s the manager and the owner of the property and takes a lot of pride in his venue. He was flexible whenever I needed to come stop by or do a walk through with vendors.
The photos in the garden turned out perfectly- SUCH a beautiful venue. My guests were all so, so impressed with the location.
I have received some negative feedback after the wedding. First, we splurged and paid extra to have our cocktail hour in the “Wine Garden” where people can have some appetizers and Steve actually serves people glasses of wine for the hour before the reception. We had pre-paid for all the alcohol served at the wedding. In the middle of the cocktail hour he “ran out” of wine and stopped serving people. (He had extra at the bar, so not sure why he wouldn’t go get more bottles… especially since we had pre-paid)
Then the bar service was INCREDIBLY slow. Steve worked the bar with another gentleman and it was not efficient at all. Guests were waiting in line upwards of 30 minutes for a drink because only one person was making a drink… they weren’t tendering cash because we had pre-paid, so I am not sure why it was taking so long.
Lastly, I would just make sure you understand all the charges associated with your day. We had to pay the bar $50/hour plus $6/drink (for mediocre beer and wine choices) plus gratuity, plus they put out a tip jar. Also, they were VERY strict about ID-ing people. Which… I totally understand, but they would not remember people or have a system (like wristbands or stamps) so they ID’d everyone every.single.time.
Beyond the bar situation, the venue was fantastic, I would definitely recommend it!
I had both my ceremony and reception here. Steve was so helpful throughout the entire process and made things very easy, and the wedding was perfect. I only wish we didn't have to shut everything down at 10pm.
Nice location but accomadation before wedding for bride and groom is not anything specail.
Steve, the owner and creator of The Secret Garden, was a pleasure to work with. He truly takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about the people he works with. The only downside with the location is that there aren't many areas to get ready in. The bride has a room, but that is it. Overall, it is a beautiful location!
I liked the venue, that's why we chose it! The only thing that I would say is that the site manager works alone, so he was unwilling to help with a lot of the set up... I think he would have preferred that we purchase extra time from him for setup beforehand, but I thought it was kind of ridiculous to have to do that. Also, he claimed (over a year before the wedding, when we booked) that we would be able to use a specific area if we wanted to for the ceremony, but that he just needed to put our ceremony site preference on the contract, but that it would be okay if we changed our minds (you know, switched up the style of the wedding, etc.) and it would be no big deal since we were the only ones that were booked for that day. A few months before the wedding I let him know that I had changed my mind and wanted the ceremony to be somewhere else within the venue. He tried to charge me a thousand more for it and claimed that he had never said that we could change our minds for free, and that it had always been that way! This is not the case, I'm positive of it. So, all I can say is, I would recommend it, just make sure that EVERYTHING is in writing! Do a lot of your business with him through e-mail, so there are no surprises. The beauty of the site speaks for itself. The chairs are unbelievably crappy and I had to rent my own because I couldn't stomach the thought of using the ones provided by the site. This added quite a bit of dough, so just keep that in mind too, if you are like me and don't love plastic hunter green chairs. In retrospect I am really not sure if I would do it over again, it was pricy for what you get and in the end I didn't get exactly what I wanted (the ceremony site I ultimatley preferred, that is) because I was unwilling to pay for both that specific site and the rental chairs. Basically, go into it very sure and understand that it will be pricy!
The Secret Garden was beautiful! Steve the manager was very welcoming so much so that when the party was supposed to end he told everyone to hang out and have a great time! The garden itself was very well kept up.
