What do you do when you have ordered food for 40+ guests for your sister's 80th bday and the caterer doesn't show? What do you say when they don't return your phone calls until two hours after the food was supposed to arrive? The lack of accountability was truly astounding. Beware. If you order from Secret Recipes your food may not arrive. The guests and our very large extended family in Springfield now know to avoid Secret Recipes for their catering needs.
My husband and I knew from the beginning we wanted to go through Secret Recipes catering. I first interacted with Secret Recipes at a bridal show, in which I was warmly greeted by their chef who was serving food and answering questions. He made a great effort to interact with anyone who approached their booth. Once I got in contact with Secret Recipes at a later date we got the privilege of working with Sadie Ballantyne. She always made herself available, made all the details easy and understandable, and promptly made changes if and when necessary. When it came down to our wedding day their staff made everything easy, enjoyable, and stress-free! Our guests complimented the catering team and amazing food. We would not have wanted to go through any other catering business and will continue to recommend them to everyone!
We just had our wedding with the Abraham Lincoln President Museum and Library, this is their preferred caterer.
Our food was outstanding, I heard from many guests that it was the best wedding food they've ever had. We had a cheese display, entree buffet, desserts and late night snacks along with an open bar all provided by Secret Recipes (bartenders were a 3rd party but all the coordinator was through Secret Recipes). The owner/head chef Chip worked with us throughout the process to ensure we were happy. We also worked with Angie who was the director for our event and she did a great job, regularly communicating and making adjustments as I requested even up to the day before. I forgot to correct my beer selection, and she was still able to get it replaced in time. I highly recommend working with them!
We found out about a tasting event at the Bridal Expo in August. We went to the tasting held at the caterer's banquet hall a few weeks later. The food that they had at the tasting wasn't labeled so you didn't know what you were picking up at the buffet. They did have an open bar which was a nice touch. Most of the food seemed average though there were a few items that did stand out. The chef came to our table to answer any questions that we had and gather info so he could put a quote together for us. He wasn't taking the time to give quotes that night, but said that he was going to keep our profile and email us a quote the following Monday. My fiancé and I both got sick a couple hours after the tasting. Some of the meat must have under-cooked. We never received our quote email. Idk if they lost our profile or if they decided not to email anyone who attended the tasting event after they realized that they made everyone sick. Other than that, the banquet hall seemed nice aside from being in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood. (We saw a less than wholesome looking group of people walking down the middle of the road pushing a grocery cart as we pulled into the parking lot.)
Great venue and outstanding food. Just have to keep calling to talk to someone.
The food was good, and I liked that we were able to customize parts of the menu. The reason I didn't give them a 5 is they made my family and I feel very mislead. We were told that we could get what we were wanting for $20/ person total. Closer to the wedding we found that it was actually going to be $30/person due to all of their extra fees. Big difference!! It was too late to switch caterers. Also, we had arranged for a few friends to go set up a few last minute things and light candles at the reception hall- but they had to set the silverware out on the tables because the caterers didn't have it finished!!! Set up and tear down was included in the extra fees, and we never got that money back :(
Secret Recipes food at the reception was delicious! The only complaints I have were with planning. We used the Mt. Zion store and dealt with 4 different people who all had different notes. A few things were promised to us and we did not receive them. In the end, they tried to make us happy, but it was a struggle up to the day of the wedding.
The venue was perfect for us. We had roughly 320 guests and felt like there was plenty of space. We loved having the dance floor on one side of the room so that it didn't interfere with the bar (on the opposite side) or guests that didn't want to be close to the dance floor.
The food was amazing! I would definitely recommend going to one of their restaurants or finding out when they have a taste test. We've eaten at the restaurant in Chatham multiple times now and haven't had a single complaint yet. The prices were very reasonable compared to the hotels we looked at.
The foyer and the bathrooms are very spacious. The foyer provides some extra room for guestbook, escort card table, etc.
We put the head table on the dance floor to save a little space also, since the wedding party doesn't sit very long anyway. The dance floor is very large! 20 ft. x 60 ft. I think... big enough we had the head table in in corner and the DJ in the other... and still tons of dancing room!
The parking lot is large as well.
The only downfall is it can be tricky to find the banquet hall. We just made sure we were thorough with our directions and put a sign at the end of the road.
Definitely recommend Secret Recipes!
The food was delicious and the service was awesome! I couldn't have asked for a better caterer at my wedding!
They were very easy to work with and the pricing was affordable. The bar service is contracted through another company-that was a little difficult to coordinate.
