I want to start by saying the wedding day itself and the entire wedding weekend were absolutely perfect. It was the most beautiful venue and exactly how I wanted it to be. It was so nice to have the ceremony and reception all in one location. The hotel rooms were beautiful. The heated toilet seats were the star of the weekend.
Dawn was an absolute joy all weekend. She was so fun, kind, and hilarious. She even danced with us!
Jennifer was there making sure everything went perfectly. She was calm and professional and I really appreciated her being there.
The waiters and bartenders were wonderful. Everyone was so kind and attentive. The food was also wonderful. The steaks were giant and cooked perfectly. My very picky aunt said it was the first time she ever had a hot meal at a wedding. I know it can be hard when there are so many people but they somehow made sure every meal was hot. Joey did an especially good job attending to our guests’ needs.
The day itself was perfect, beautiful, and everything we could have wanted.
With that being said, the planning process itself was stressful. We had four different venue coordinators since we booked. I was not notified each time there was a change and only found out I was working with someone new when I reached out myself. There was not a good organizational system in place to make sure we stayed updated when there were changes.
I want to give some specifics about my experience with Shaelyn - the most recent coordinator - for future brides. Some of the changes were totally out of her control, which I understand. However, she was not organized or professional in dealing with these challenges.
I reached out to Shaelyn about 3 weeks before the event and was told she would “flag” my email because she had four huge events coming up. This made me feel like our wedding wasn’t a priority. She was increasingly unresponsive as the event got closer.
I reached out on September 20th to make sure all of the details were in place for our October 1st wedding. They were not. My wedding coordinator had sent several emails to Shaelyn prior to this to set up a meeting but did not get a reply until I reached out on the 20th. During this meeting, Shaelyn was in Mexico on vacation. She was in the lobby of her hotel during our Zoom call. She seemed flustered and told me again during that meeting that they were behind. She did not have a good grasp of what we wanted on that day and told me during the meeting the hand written notes in our file were hard to read. While she later said she was just confirming details, that is not how the meeting seemed. She was asking me questions about details I’d discussed months prior. Not confirming. I left that meeting in tears.
Management quickly stepped in when I voiced my concerns to make sure everything was perfect. They also gave me a discount. I appreciate everyone’s efforts and make these comments about my experiences with Shaelyn only so future brides can be aware. We had our own wedding coordinator and I do feel that is essential in working with this venue.
There were some growing pains as the Marriott took over. However, almost all of the staff went above and beyond to make sure the day was perfect. It was a beautiful wedding and exactly what we wanted.

This venue was an absolute nightmare to work with. It felt very short staffed, the staff was not professional AT ALL, they had no uniforms on and were so rude to guests. They told a guest at dinner to, "Stop bitching if I am serving you your food." Steak was well done and chewy. Food was sub-par at best. It was way better at the tastings and completely overcooked at the wedding. Jennifer the coordinator is absolutely incompetent at her job and should not be in the hospitality industry. She had specific, detailed directions from the bride regarding the ceremony timing logistics, table set up, and reception set up for everything that was written down on paper. Jen did not listen one bit to any of it. She coordinated the ceremony the way she wanted to, not the way the bride wanted it to run. She told everyone to stand up when at the ceremony when that wasn't what the bride wanted, she didn't que the officiant to make announcements before it started to turn off phones, guests were standing around 30 seconds before the bride went down the aisle, the seating chart was a mess because she put the wrong numbers at dinner tables, and overall was no help. We tried to get the bartenders to dim the lights for the reception/first dance and it took them 10 minutes to figure out how to do it - completely missing the mark. They were rude serving guests and were getting very basic drinks wrong. (i ordered a dirty shirley and they gave me a dirty martini). The front desk people were always MIA and never at the front desk kiosk. Trying to find staff the whole weekend was so hard. Not to mention they gave away the bridal suite to somebody else, even though we booked it 9+ months ahead of time. They gave us a tiny room to get ready in that had no places to do hair and makeup and told us we could change rooms IN THE MIDDLE OF HAIR AND MAKEUP. They have a strict 11pm noise ordinance and you cannot be loud after that time. All in all - DO NOT BOOK unless you want to stress out all weekend.

Dear Krista O ~
Thank you for providing feedback and wanted to extended my sincere apology...
that the event did not live up to your expectations. We are in the process of ordering new uniforms and nametags for all associates. This is the first time we have received negative feedback concerning the food. This will be addressed with the chef as well as the corporate executive chef. Jennifer also extends her apology as well with not knowing about the specific details mentioned above. For most of our weddings, the client hires a professional wedding planner/coordinator to facilitate the logistics of their day. Based on this feedback we will compile a list of vendors that our guests can choose from should they be interested. Please know that your comments were taken seriously and we have followed up with those specific team members. We apologize for the guest room mix-up and you may not be aware however we gave the bride a full refund for this mishap. The noise mandate is per the City of Clayton and beyond our control. If you like to speak with me, I can be reached at harry@innkeeperhs.com.
Thank you
Harry L.

Booking this venue is the biggest regret I have with wedding planning. My fiancé and I put a deposit down while Jason was the coordinator, and that’s the coordinator that all these amazing reviews reference. Since then, there have been two coordinators. Currently, it’s a woman named Jonna. I was NEVER contacted by anyone when Jonna took over, nor did they reach out to inform me that their catering prices had increased CONSIDERABLY. I had to reach out to them, at which point Jonna informed me she had taken over, and prices had increased. If I hadn’t reached out, I never would’ve been told. Jonna had literally never initiated any contact with me. In fact, the last contact the venue initiated was when the previous coordinator took over. I asked for an updated contract and invoice and I never received one. They’re unreachable by email and when you call, they say whatever you want to hear to get you off the phone with ZERO follow up. One of my payment dates came and went with no contact. I was essentially ghosted by our wedding venue. This made wedding planning an absolute nightmare. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I DID receive a full refund, but it took over a month and a half, and getting into contact with ‘the right people’ far up the chain of command. We never would’ve received our refund without the assistance of one really amazing employee or without a bride, who had experienced the same situation, giving me advice.

I realize that it’s a total cliche to say that your wedding day was perfect but I’m going to say it anyway. Our wedding day went off without a single hitch due to the hard work and care of Jonna and the rest of the staff at Seven Gables Inn. We cannot stop raving about how well the whole day went. Having our wedding at the inn was seriously the best decision we could have made. Our guests told us how much they loved the convenience of staying onsite and not having to worry about transportation and the accommodations and food were excellent. For my husband and I, it was so nice to be able to get ready with our wedding party in their fancy, updated rooms and simply come downstairs to the courtyard for our ceremony. We highly recommend this venue for STL engaged couples wanting an intimate wedding. We originally booked with the previous coordinator a year and a half before our date, but in the months leading up to our wedding we met with his replacement Jonna, and we were blown away at how good she was. We instantly knew we were in the most capable hands. The lady is an honest-to-goodness wizard at event coordinating - she walked us through every step of the way, from the menu tasting to making decor choices, to explaining all the costs and what was covered in our package. The day of the wedding flowed seamlessly because Jonna and the rest of the staff were so on it. They are seriously the best. Jonna is an absolute boss who gets stuff done, but she also really seems to care about her brides and grooms - she even got on the dance floor with us to tear it up and hugged us goodbye before she took off for the night. Jamie with her creative self-invented cocktails - the night before our wedding, we dubbed her drink “the Jamie” and told all our guests to order it. Benjamin - singing Thriller with me in the hallways and cutting it up on the dance floor. We love that the staff was having so much fun along with us and our guests - we will always cherish those memories. Thank you SGI for our amazing wedding experience!

My now husband and I couldn’t be happier with our choice to have our wedding ceremony and reception at Seven Gables Inn (SGI) last weekend! Jonna, the sales manager/event coordinator, was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was responsive to all emails, provided suggestions, and it was clear that she cared and wanted to make sure we had a special day. Even though it rained on our wedding day, SGI was able to accommodate our 60 guests indoors for both the ceremony and the reception. The food was absolutely delicious! Some of our guests even commented that it was some of the best wedding food they have ever had! We got an extra bartender for our open bar and both bartenders were fantastic! Our out of town guests who stayed at the Inn enjoyed their stay and raved about the newly renovated rooms. Seriously a huge thank you to the entire SGI team for helping create such a memorable day! We recommend SGI for any smaller event or wedding. They will not disappoint.

We had our rehearsal dinner in the courtyard. Jason was GREAT to work with, could not have been more accomodating. The food was delicious and everyone's food was hot which is not easy for 50 people. All the employees were awesome, one nicer than the next.
I cannot recommend Seven Gables enough, honestly a great experience all the way around.
Everyone that stayed in the hotel loved their rooms, all newly renovated.

We recently held a rehearsal dinner in the patio. What a lovely place. We had just under 30 people and there was plenty of room to spare. The Inn strategically placed some heaters for us, making it very comfortable on a quite cool evening.
The food was exceptional. Heard many, many comments as to how much people enjoyed their meal.
Jason did a first rate job organizing the event and was on hand the entire evening to serve any needs we had.
Great experience!

The whole experience was great from start to finish. Although we had to reschedule from our original date, due to the pandemic. Jason was very accommodating with rescheduling , prices, and arrangement. Jason was very attending to our needs. The day of to be all that we expected. From set to the ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner. Jason was readily available for any concerns. The food was magnificent! Better than I anticipated. I chose Seven Gables because my niece was married there 6 years ago. The memory of her wedding made a memorable impression on my. There was no other choice for us. I recommend Seven Gables if you are looking for a venue that can deliver that special day for you.

I can not say enough positive things about Seven Gables Inn, Jason our event specialist, and the entire team on how well they helped me create a day for me and my girlfriends to enjoy and celebrate my wedding coming up!
With everything going on in the world ( ugh... thanks COVID), Jason and the team worked quickly in helping me plan my bridal shower in less than 3 weeks. Not ideal for him and his team but they were so positive and amazing to work with.
We held the bridal shower in one of their inside event spaces which was perfect for myself and a handful of my best friends. It was absolutely charming in every way.
I would highly recommend that if you have are looking for a charming, intimate and centrally located venue you need to check out Seven Gables Inn! They also have the cutest courtyard perfect for a small ceremony!
Thank you Jason for all of your hard work and making it look so easy!

I can’t say enough good things about Seven Gables Inn!! We worked with Jason to plan our wedding reception and he was so helpful the whole way through the process. We had to re-plan our whole wedding due to Covid-19 and Jason took so much of our stress away. The day of the reception, the staff made my husband and I feel so comfortable and our guests raved about the service. The food and drinks were incredible, the atmosphere was lighthearted and friendly, and the entire first floor was ours to use. Seven Gables Inn really is- as they say- an oasis in the heart of Downtown Clayton. We will be booking with them for future events without a doubt.

Although the pandemic and resulting social distancing and masks prevented us from having the wedding weekend we had planned at The Seven Gables, I highly recommend this boutique hotel. The rooms look amazing, the food is delicious( we had lunch pre-Covid) and the staff were so helpful and accommodating as we changed our original plans to small, planned an awesome RD St hat was unfortunately cancelled. Jason was amazing to work with throughout the process. I was so disappointed we did not spend the weekend at this beautiful inn. Someday, we are coming to stay for the weekend and rent that amazing bridal suite. Thanks, Jason and Congrats to you

We couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome of our wedding at Seven Gables Inn on June 28, 2020. Since our initial visit to the Inn and meeting with Jason ( Wedding Planner ), we decided that this was the place for us. It has a beautiful outside courtyard (where we did our nuptials) and multiple rooms inside that all had their own unique ambiance that was perfect for our day. The staff, under Jason's attention to detail, did not disappoint. From the food to the drinks everything was outstanding. We heard numerous compliments throughout the day of how nice everything was. During Covid, we certainly had our challenges, but things could not have been better. I would highly recommend Seven Gables Inn and Jason was the quintessential professional and will see to it that your wedding will be as good as ours

Seven Gables Inn did a phenomenal job of hosting a wedding dinner for us and our family! We originally planned a May wedding, but postponed due to coronavirus. Once STL began lifting restrictions, we rescheduled for June and sought a venue to have small, but safe, gathering to celebrate. SGI was the perfect choice. Their Gables Room was perfect. We had plenty of room to cut our small wedding cake, enjoy dinner, and then cut the rug.
SGI staff’s service was amazing. They took care of our family with the utmost degree. The staff took care of us as if the celebration was their own. Jason, the Sales Manager & Event Coordinator, went the extra mile in preparing for our event and ensuring all of our guests were taken care of. (We wish Jason and his bride the best for their upcoming wedding!). My mother will always remember Chris mixing a special drink just for her. Dinner was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
The inn was recently renovated, giving a beautiful backdrop for our celebration. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Staying at the inn after our celebration was ideal. Everyone enjoyed the courtyard at the end of the evening. We cannot say enough good things about how Seven Gables Inn made our day the best it could be. For couples looking for a small wedding or reception venue that will make their day memorable, Seven Gables Inn is a perfect choice.

Our journey with Seven Gables Inn was one for the books. We originally found them when they had a new transition team and had just begun their renovations in 2019. Even then we fell in love with the charm of the building. Our vision was an old European inspired venue with a quaint courtyard, and the Seven Gable Inn fit the bill. Then we met Jason in late 2019 when he joined the team and we could finally take a deep breath and knew we were in good hands. He shared our vision of an intimate wedding, and really tailored everything to what we were looking for. Fast forward to 2020, and my husband and I thought our wedding plans were over. We reached out to Jason and discussed our options throughout the COVID-19 closures. We knew we didn't want to reschedule our ceremony and Jason kept us posted on what we were able to do with local guidelines. We were able to still have our ceremony with our closest family and friends. Jason was able to make the courtyard feel cozy while making sure everyone was able to socially distance themselves. Our day, although not what we originally planned, turned out more wonderful than I could've imagined. I wouldn't have changed anything. Thanks Jason for making us feel special and rolling with all of the challenges we faced together!

Great event. The remodel of this wonderful place was a success. The ease of the putting this event together was great. The staff was extremely helpful, polite, professional and organized. They were also very flexible, allowing us to decorate and do what we needed. Dinner was great. I really have no issues. I highly recommend this venue. We stayed there also, rooms are very modern and awesome.
Our rehearsal dinner was 41 people, we rented both the inn and the banquet room and fit very comfortably. Happy hour and after party in the inn, sit down dinner in the room. Flowed very nicely.

My husband and I wanted a cozy cute place for our first night and husband and wife. When we came across seven gables inn, we loved how it looked. When we got there, the workers were very pleasant and kind. We ended up having to stay an extra day because we got snowed in! It was so fun! The only thing was that the food wasn't excellent. But there's a chipotle nearby in walking distance as well as other food places! We will definetely be returning because it is so cute!

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Seven Gables Inn on June 22, 2013. It was just a beautiful venue, everything turned out just perfect! We couldn't be happier that we had our wedding there!

This was a terrible idea. We wanted a cute little romantic place to have a wedding of about 50 guests and this was the perfect place! Never even knew about it but the owner, Stacey, was super nice and helpful... until we booked. Once we signed the contract and paid the bill, she seemed very annoyed by phone calls or emails and only gave me brief answers, sometimes one word. We also booked a room there for our wedding night, being promised champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. When the big day came, Stacey, who promised to be there and have the place ready to go was nowhere in sight. The groomsmen had to take decorations down from a party the night before and to top it off, the room we booked ONE YEAR in advance AND paid for in full was double-booked due to "computer glitch". Well, for only having 32 rooms, you wouldn't think that would be a huge problem. I mean- use a sheet of paper for gods sake. But even paper won't help when you're giving rooms to other guests simply because they can out-pay the previous guest. We were downgraded from the honeymoon suite to a super crappy room (where all the girls were supposed to get ready- we ended up so crammed it was hard to get dressed and have pictures taken). Oh by the way, the room issue was revealed to us just four hours before the wedding when the hotel called to tell my then fiance about their discovery, of which I had just confirmed THE DAY BEFORE. To top it off no strawberries in sight that night and when we left we were told there was no record of payment. We had to bring back a credit card bill to prove it if we really wanted the room for "free". Even though we were offered a "free room" that night and a stay in the honeymoon suite in the future, how can that possibly make up for having a terrible room the day of our wedding, being told all of this information just hours before the wedding, and me, the bride, arriving at my wedding location ready to go, only to try so hard not to cry in my fresh makeup instead of focusing on my future husband and the happiness of the day. The idea of coming back on future anniversaries to eat in the very courtyard we were married in will forever be ruined. Even though we researched this place before booking, after the wedding I was able to eventually find tons of reviews dating back to 2003 stating that the rooms were "overbooked" and even one that said they were out-paid by another couple for their room. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE AT ALL. Such a shame to see a romantic and beautiful place run by such incompetent people.

We were absolutely astounded by the quality of service, the food, the staff, etc at the Inn. Stacey, the General Manager, took all of my visions, pictures of tablescapes, and completely brought it to life. Our wedding and reception were both in the Courtyard. It was gorgeous and well-kept, and the staff flipped it very quickly for us. All of our guests raved about the food! We stayed in the Master Suite the night of our wedding and it was awesome! Very comfy bed, beautiful room. We can't say enough great things about the Inn! They brought my wedding vision to life and it all came out perfect!
