We had the best wedding ever at Shade in May 2024! We are local to the area and wanted to have a no-nonsense venue that had everything in-house and Shade was the perfect venue for us. The food was great, the drinks delicious, incredible views, space for our guests, pretty and comfortable outdoor furniture/fireplace, and they let us pick and choose what we wanted. And unexpected bonus - included in the price was designing our wedding signage and printing them for us! (We did pay an additional very reasonable price for our welcome sign to be printed as it was large - but that was it.) They were able to perfectly match all fonts, colors, and designs to our wedding invitations that we got from Minted. Saved us so much time, money, and stress! The Blu room for getting ready was super comfortable for the bridesmaids and me and the comped King suite with two tvs was perfect for the groom and groomsmen to get ready in! There were amazing food options for the night - and we loved our selections for appetizers, salads, dinner, dessert, and late night! We were hoping the weather would be a little warmer so we could take more advantage of opening all the doors/windows on the horizon level for our reception, but we were at least able to open one side and appreciate the spectacular location and views of the sunset! I wish we could put 4.5 stars because like some of the other reviews, there were some communication challenges. Especially in the beginning. We sometimes went weeks without getting a response, even after following up once or twice. But all of that went away once we were connected with Jade! She was knowledgeable, communicative, and willing to work with us to make sure our day was the best day ever. She was detailed, thorough, went above and beyond to make sure our vision was met and our guests had a great time, and was such a joy to work with. We felt so comfortable with her in the last couple months of planning that the day of the wedding, we fully trusted that we could simply enjoy the day - which we did tremendously. With Jade in the picture, the only negative about the venue itself is that it was difficult to hide the bride before the ceremony. With the marina being the optimal back drop for pre-wedding photos and guests arriving early, I was seen by several people even though I was hidden away 30+ minutes before we asked people to arrive. Luckily for us, that was something we didn't really care about. But wanted to share because it is important to some people! Overall, couldn't have been happier with how our wedding went and highly recommend hosting your wedding/event at Shade!

We worked with Emely at the Shade for our wedding reception and our whole experience could not have been better! We had a moving reception as per Emely's recommendation and it really helped make the night flow and keep everyone mingling. The food was outstanding and the overall service and attention to detail was fantastic. We felt stress-free on the day of because The Shade handled everything. We would 10/10 recommend this venue to anyone who wants a gorgeous venue with great service.

with how the event went. While the event itself was great, it was a bumpy road to get there. There were a handful of mistakes by the events staff which were fixable – spelling errors, conflicting messages, lack of internal communication, and slow responses. I was grateful we had a separate wedding planner to help work things out. Overall, it was a wonderful wedding and I don’t want to diminish that; it just wasn’t the smoothest planning process.

Emely were prompt to respond to all of my emails and I had a lot of questions as I was planning my own wedding. They made sure we were on schedule the day of the wedding. Emely made sure I was fed and hydrated the entire night. They put out my decorations and my event space was beautiful. The food at Shade was delicious and the views of the marina and ocean was gorgeous. My guests cannot stop raving about how good the food and how beautiful the venue was. We also had a grilled cheese cart and churros for late night snack (highly recommend). Shade has an excellent selection of alcohol and craft beers. Collette and Emely went above and beyond to make our day the best day ever. Thank you so much Collette, Emely, and the rest of the Shade staff! I highly recommend getting married here!!!

Do not host your wedding here. We were scheduled to have a 200 person wedding in October and placed a deposit for $15,000. Unfortunately with Covid, Shade Hotel wasnt able to host ...

the wedding. They refused to give us our deposit back. They were willing to host a luncheon in the upper deck for 20-50 people and wanted to charge us the $15,000 deposit. We could not bare to spend that much money for a simple luncheon, no live music, no dancing, no socializing. We requested to host smaller dinner and appropriately price the celebration but they were not willing to negotiate and demanded we spend the whole deposit or we loose it. The only compensation they are willing to give us is credit for their hotel for $15000.00 which is ridiculous. We spoke multiple times to their managers including Melissa and she said we should be happy we are not obligated to pay the full amount of $52,000. It saddens me that businesses like this who are supposed to support couples and marriages are not willing to work with us and refusing to give our deposit back. We are now expecting a family and have to look elsewhere for financial support. Look elsewhere for your wedding and save the disappointment with these thieves.

t was magical. The Shade team of Collette and Theresa were on top of the weather and offered to move the ceremony downstairs, but we elected to stay upstairs. The appetizers and cocktail hour was moved down to the reception area (Horizon Level) due to weather. We had our food stations, outside and it worked out great. We had seating for everyone and a large dance floor inside. Everyone had a blast enjoying delicious food, and dancing their heart outs. We were easily able to add an extra hour to the party. Collette and Theresa gave us the idea of a Sparkler exit, which we did outside on the reception level. It was so amazing and beautiful. The Shade had everything ready at the exact minute we needed it and the food was soooo yummy. Collette and Theresa do all the planning, and timelines, and keep the bride on a schedule, as she prepares the planning of the wedding. I must say, it was EASY to plan this wedding. I LOVE the Shade and highly recommend it to anyone who is getting married or just partying. Thank You, Shade TEAM.

stic to work with, an amazing communicator, and super sweet! Her contracts are easy to understand and barely any fine print to deal with. The food, the space, the service, and the coordination were A+++infinity The only setback was the hotel side: it needs improvement. When inquiring about room blocks, we were only offered a Contracted Room Block rate (a percentage of rooms must be booked by your guests or you have to pay a penalty): only 20% off the best rate (March 2019), but the rate eventually went down 20% anyway leading up to the wedding date, so our guests wouldn't have saved money and we would have risked paying for the rooms that were not booked. We ended up booking a Courtesy Block down the street at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. In order for the bride and groom to get a comped room on their wedding night, you must have BOTH the ceremony and reception at the site. We only had a reception at Shade, so we had to pay for our room and we were treated like every other hotel guest on the property that weekend.

For anyone looking for an amazing venue in So Cal - as a bride, I can not recommend The Shade Hotel Redondo and Collette Charlesworth and Julia Diane Whitley more highly. Seriously...

, I am in (the happiest of happy) tears because of these ladies (and their personal care and attention to detail) multiple times a day! They have not only taken so much of the stress away but also have made this whole overwhelming final countdown process exciting and FUNNNNN...a word I never thought I’d say about this 🤣 They go out of their way to make sure every single detail is just the way you’d like it, and still somehow seem to be the two most relaxed humans ever. I love these women and hope everyone able to experience their care some day!

t location. We've gotten so many comments from our guests that the food was delicious and they did a great job catering for dietary needs. Everything was out on time and my planner worked with the banquet manager on the day who was quick to get things done. Colette and Jenny were an absolute pleasure to work with pre-wedding and with it being a destination wedding I really needed my contact to be thorough and responsive. I would have an email back most of the time within a couple hours and the answer would always be yes, or I would be given an alternative. They are professionals and they definitely know the wedding business. The reason I gave it 3 stars: If you are looking for a real party with loud music and dancing for your reception, then I would say this place is not for you. Or at least Sky Level definitely isn't, because they are very strict with noise level. A lot more strict than they let on. They will get the cops called on them if the DJ is talking to loud or the music is to loud. Our DJ was terrible (that's a different review for Vox DJs) but guests couldn't hear the music if they were at the bar and we were not allowed to turn it up. Shade recommended turning down the speaker and piping the music through the ceiling but I do events and know that quality of sound when those speakers are turned up really loud is very bad. The other problem is, with sky level being outside, it can get VERY cold and VERY windy. They do have heaters but when it is windy you still feel the cold. They did provide blankets but on my particular wedding night (at least for the first hour or so) everyone was freezing. My bestfriend is a quadriplegic and my grandmother is 94 years old and they cannot control their body temperature. We definitely needed more heaters (I've heard this a few times from other weddings as well). After my mother and bestfriend's mother basically begged for more heaters, they finally got 2 up. I know the reason for the delay was not all their fault because patrons down at sea level restaurant were using them, but when we are spending a fortune for a wedding, we hope that our guests are comfortable and if we need more heaters then we should have them quickly. Overall, it was a good reception and we have great photos. If you are looking for just a beautiful space (not a huge party) and are having your wedding in the summer then this could be the perfect place for you.

dding was not a pretty sunset. Even though the year before we visit the very same time and it was quite warm and sunny- perfect for outdoor and rooftop weddings. Although our guests were given blankets if they knew about it. We paid over $1,500 for drinks and warm tea/coffee yet only I had a cup of tea, I didn’t see anyone with drinks other than water-I felt embarrassed that maybe they thought we could not offer anything else. I had a expensive cup of tea because one of the groomsmen got it for me. The food was warm not hot but prepared beautiful. Although our headcount was over the amount we paid for- we were not allowed to take the leftovers that we paid for home. That’s $45 a plate! We canceled dancing because the overhead heaters were just not warm enough and our guests was affecting our guests energy levels. So we had to cancel the dancing and everyone left early. Although ppl said it was beautiful. It was short, I stood up and scarfed down my piece of cake because I didn’t have time to eat it. I didn’t get to mingle with my friends and family who came from out of state. Not even one photograph with one niece or nephew... was this a lack of organization on my part? Should I go around talking to the cooks and asking ppl what they want to drink? Where to put the gifts? Yes, we had ushers but that was not thier job because they didn’t know “Collette’s” job. There were no refunds. I do not recommend this venue 💯

Additionally, the views from the wedding venue are spectacular. If you are looking for the perfect ocean front wedding without the sand, this is your venue.
