Overall, I am absolutely pleased with our decision to have our Ceremony and Reception at the Sheraton on Harbor Island, Bay Tower. The Ceremony site was breathtakingly beautiful a...nd overlooked the Marina, making for spectacular pictures. The Reception site had the Cocktail Hour outside on a balcony which was just perfect and the inside was so gorgeous too, matching my colors for a Beach Themed wedding.
I received RAVE reviews about the food. I was actually told many people didn't dance because they kept eating more and more. I have to agree 1000% with them because the food was out of this world. I still am dreaming of their coconut chicken on a stick and balsamic glazed veggies. If you are a foodie, this is the place to have your wedding. From the moment I met with Susan, our wedding coordinator, I knew this was the place for us. It was much more money then we originally wanted to spend, but after seeing all that we got, we were hooked. The views and the beauty of it all made it all worth every penny. Although my dream wedding came to life here, I do have some cons that I wanted to share with you. The night before my wedding was our scheduled 'rehearsal' which I told Susan was only for dropping off all of our wedding decorations and supplies needed for our day. When arriving at the hotel to check into our room (that we had to pay for) it took over an hour to check in and the service that day was completely horrible. Bellhops tried to help us as Susan was with another couple, but we stood outside while cakes melted, cupcakes were destroyed and frustration grew. Finally the bellhops offered to take our stuff into their closet but by the time we spent doing this Susan came and had us take it to her office down stairs. Meanwhile, most of our guests were staying at the hotel in both the bay and marina towers and I was hearing about service complaints left and right. When people were checking in they were allowed to choose their tower instead of going into the one they booked, causing overbooking and people being moved back and forth between the two towers.
I had dropped off Guest Bags to be given when the guests arrived and there was a huge problem with that. Some people didn't receive them and when they went to go get it, were given the bags from another wedding! This made me very sad to know how mistakes were happening.
Then after our reception, we were told our suite was in the Marina tower, but the night before we stayed in the Bay tower. So we had to check out and get a bell hop to take ALL of our stuff to our suite. We had all of our guests waiting in the bar at the Marina Tower for us and it took about 2 hours to get moved. I cried. It was so sad to me because the excitement began to wear off as I stressfully waited.
Ultimately, the suite they gave us was amazing, and had champagne and strawberries which was a great touch to a stressful afternoon after our fun day. Then the next morning when we called to get a bell hop, he came right away and was so extremely helpful. Unfortnately as he pushed our cart to the car, he dropped our cake topper and it shattered into a million pieces, leaving me crying because that memory could not be replaced. The hotel said they would comp our room from the night before but I never saw the credit go through. Overall, I would recommend the Sheraton to get married in, but not necessarily to stay in or have your guests stay because they really dropped the ball on service.
