This review is for both the India House and Masterpiece Caterers.
For the most part, both the venue and MC delivered a wonderful wedding experience. There were a few avoidable day...-of miscues, though, that kept them from getting 5 stars.
The venue
In a word, STUNNING. If you've already visited, then you understand what I'm talking about. If you've never been there, absolutely go, because it's impossible to capture the feeling and decor of the place in a short review. The decor, the architecture, the colors, everything contribute to an absolutely gorgeous venue.
The location
Perfect for us. Conveniently located in lower Manhattan, but away from the annoyance of midtown, you get the best of several worlds. You're within a few blocks of anything you might need last minute, close by to plenty of bars and restaurants for rehearsals, the after party, and other events that weekend, within a short walk of several hotels for out-of-town guests, and right near several beautiful spots to take pictures. We did ours at Elevated Acre and it was just amazing (and easy!).
The food
Great. IMO, food at a wedding shouldn't steal the show, but should be very tasty and satisfying. MC delivered on both of those. Everything was prepared well, presented elegantly, and tasted great.
The service
Top notch. Kevin is very clearly a seasoned professional and takes his job very seriously.
Our only gripe
What ended up being just an amazing and expectation-exceeding experience was slightly tainted by a few avoidable mistakes. Our day-to-day contact missed the boat on a couple of details. She was very gracious and accepting of them when originally discussed, but just wasn't able to remember or follow through on them the day of. For instance, one of our guests only drinks vodka with grapefruit juice. We had brought this up early and were assured that it would be accommodated (otherwise we would have just provided our own), but unfortunately it was not. Another is with the vendor meals. We repeatedly had to remind her that we only needed 2, but every version of our contract/program called for 3. Even our final bill, which we then had to re-remind her that we shouldn't be paying for, since we only had 2. We had requested a card box (which was beautiful BTW) at the rehearsal, but when we arrived at the venue the day of, it was nowhere to be found. The staff eventually found it and put it in place at the last minute. There were also some issues with remembering the final guest count. We had confirmed it at the rehearsal, but it was still wrong on our final bill. There were a couple of liquor choices that we had arranged ahead of time that were not in place when we arrived at the venue the day of. I noticed and brought it up, and to Kevin's credit, he got it fixed right away. But it was disconcerting in the fact that had I not noticed it, it wouldn't have been caught. Kevin very quickly and graciously did his best to remedy as many of these small issues as he could, but the lack of attention to detail and follow through on the part of our day-to-day contact left a bit of a sour taste in our mouths in what was otherwise a fantastic experience.
