Very disappointed with the lack of contact my fiancée and I received when trying to use this venue. We attempted to contact them through The Knot, via telephone and voicemails, and eventually by an email provided to us by the Snowshoe Instagram team. We tried for 2 months before contacting their corporate office to complain about the poor service and seeking other venue options. This was a huge waste of time. The venue was posting sponsored advertisements on WV Wedding Magazine’s accounts which was increasingly frustrating. Sad to see they are advertising and yet unresponsive. The contact we were given by multiple sources was Irish Simmons and we never heard back from them. The venue is gorgeous and we really thought this venue was “the one” even before our engagement. Extremely disappointing.
The view is 5 stars. The food was 3 stars. The help from the venue contact and professionalism of the staff- 0 stars. Kathy (venue contact and organization of weddings for Snowshoe) was great until she got paid. Then it all went south. Suddenly she wouldn't allow things we previously agreed on. In the invoice sent, she charged us $4,000 extra for food and "didn't realize it" until I pointed it out and asked it to be corrected. We agreed on a few select drinks and beer/wine, the rest we said would be cash bar. They ended up charging us for everyone's off bar choices. Oh, and did I mention that their is a 14% RESORT tax on top of 7% sales tax?? Yeah, Kathy didn't either.
During the tasting, the staff showed up high as a kite and Kathy was veryyyy pushy to upgrade our choices. Her husband runs the bar and let me tell you, its clear she wants the commission from bar picks as well.
Honestly- the venue itself is affordable- food and bar you have to fight tooth and nail for. When it comes to Kathy she has a huge attitude, is not AT ALL organzied (we had to send her our bar picks 3 times and had to tell her 2 different times the arch we actually needed for the ceremony and it was still forgotten), and the professionalism of staff is horrid. Pick a different mountain resort.
The staff at Snowshoe Mountain was incredible! My husband and I got married there this past weekend, and it was everything we could’ve dreamt of and more! Their wedding coordinator, catering staff, bar staff, everyone was so amazing! I couldn’t have asked for a better day or experience!
i would not suggest getting married here, we had issues with everything from our coordinator quitting and never being told, to issues with reservations, issues with pricing changing part way through, and to top it off they tore up part of the mountain lodge building the day before our wedding on the lawn where you can see the building directly behind you. No communication and aside from the new coordinator who started mid June trying her best and being very sweet could not control what the resort does. They even had noise complaints starting before 10 pm and made us shut down our reception early despite having a contract that stated we would have the lawn until 11 pm.
We had an incredible experience at this venue. One of the reasons we chose this venue was because of how friendly and personable the staff were and this was continued throughout the process. We mostly communicated with Jaime about our wedding details and she was incredibly helpful and easy to reach throughout the planning process. The day of the wedding we had a rain storm that hit in the middle of the reception and the staff was quick in re-setting up tables and getting guests inside. Jaime even called a few days after the wedding to follow up about how things went. I could not have been happier with our choice to get married at Snowshoe.
Snowshoe Mountain Resort was hands down the most beautiful and amazing venue for our wedding yesterday 7/7/18. Our wedding ceremony was in the beautifully rustic Soaring Eagle Lodge and our reception was outside under the white tent on Mountain Lodge Lawn. The lawn overlooked the mountains and lake. It was the perfect backdrop for photos. No photo booth necessary! The natural beauty of the mountains and uniqueness of the village is second to none in WV. We looked at many other venues in WV and VA. Snowshoe was the best quality, most accommodating, and fair priced. We cannot say enough about the staff. They did everything in their power to make us feel special and like the only couple in the world getting married. The staff created an outstanding dinner that all the guests raved about at both the reception and the rehearsal dinner. Jaime Eilers, wedding planner, and Jim Ed, catering manager, are outstanding at what they do and became friends throughout the process and day of. People always say that you should prepare yourself because something will go wrong on your wedding day. I can honestly say nothing went wrong on our day (that we are aware of). The employees of Snowshoe made our day easy and fun! Cannot recommend this venue enough.
I am SO happy we chose to have our wedding at Snowshoe! It was the perfect combination of great people, beautiful scenery, outdoors activities, and awesome food. We held our wedding on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and the wedding party and most guests came up on Friday and made a long weekend out of it by cooking out, hiking, mountain biking, RZR tours, looking around the village shops, etc. It really made for a great time together with friends and family.
I honestly could not say enough about Snowshoe and their staff. They are ALL nothing short of incredible. Jaime Eilers is the wedding coordinator there and she was a pleasure to work with, always being available for any and all questions and concerns. Jim Ed, the catering manager, went above and beyond to bring our reception venue to life and was a very reassuring presence. I also have to give huge credits to the cooking staff at Snowshoe. We did a plated dinner with options for steak, chicken, kids, or gf/veg and they were all amazing! We heard nothing but compliments from all our guests!
As someone else mentioned, there was a slight problem with guests being able to check-in early.. but once we addressed this with Jaime she made sure to take care of it.
We highly recommend Snowshoe as a venue for your special day!
I got married at Snowshoe this July. I grew up in West Virginia and it was my dream to marry there even though I now live in Arizona. I planned my wedding from across the county with help from my wedding planner included in the cost of Snowshoe. She was usually very responsive and helpful, constantly promising us things that were not specifically written in any contract.
We drove 30 plus hours to get to our wedding from Arizona and arrived to find out two days before the wedding that my primary wedding planner was out for four weeks. No explanation, no compensation. Good news is they had hired a second back up wedding planner. Only to find out two days before my wedding that she is also unavailable. No compensation and no warning in order to allow us to find a replacement or extra help for the day of. Luckily, we rolled with it and relied on my excellent vendors (not associated with Snowshoe) to help make our day perfect.
I will now list some of the instances that took place,
1. No one that "took over for the wedding planner" had any of her notes, any of my information regarding what we had spent months discussing
2. They charged each of my guests $10 to park for the ceremony after specifically telling us there would be no charge
3. They told us we could decorate the reception area Friday, all day. They told me on Thursday to arrive on Friday at 8 am. We were there at 8 am only to be told we would not be able to start decorating until 3 PM. My rehearsal was at 4 which meant I was decorating until 11 pm the night before my wedding with all of my bridesmaids in order to ensure it would be ready for Saturday
4. Before the wedding many of my guests had contacted me to tell me that check in for the hotels started at 4 or 5 pm. My wedding planner promised that the guests could call and request early check in, no problem. Many of my guests had to arrive late to the wedding because they wouldn't let them in their rooms to change clothes. Many changed in lobby bathrooms after a 3 plus hour ride to snowshoe. When confronted about this, Snowshoe stated that "the guest should just pay for the night before to get an early check in". Pay for a night when they aren't even there to check in an hour early?!
5. As part of your package, Snowshoe gives you a complimentary night at one of their hotels. They never gave anyone, the bride, the groom, any one in the wedding party the key to the room. So after the wedding, we spent over an hour waiting in the lobby to have a security guard let us in our own room. They stated that I should have checked in that day at 4 pm to get into my room. Unfortunately I was getting married at 4 pm so I was a little busy.
I can't even list all of our complaints as this review is space limited. Snowshoe is a beautiful location and if you can guarantee that the wedding planner willl show up, it will probably be great but know that no one else including the wedding planners boss has any idea what she communicates to her clients and therefore you will not receive what you are paying for. Snowshoe refused to give us any type of discount and provided substantially less than promised. Please be cautious
We used Snowshoe Weddings for our ceremony location, lodging, and transportation (our reception was at Soaring Eagle Lodge, which is a separate entity from Snowshoe). Jaime, our Snowshoe Weddings coordinator did a wonderful job with everything. Our ceremony was at the Mountain Lodge Lawn. It was gorgeous! The views were incredible and the set up was perfect. The transportation was timely and easy throughout the entire wedding weekend. They were always on call and did a wonderful job for our guests and for us. Jaime and the Snowshoe staff were very helpful in setting up the room blocks for our guests both at Soaring Eagle Lodge and our back up lodging location. I also really appreciated Jaime’s help in coordinating the delivery of welcome boxes to each room too! All around fantastic experience with Snowshoe.
Excellent food, excellent wait staff. We went for a tasting a couple months before the wedding and made our decisions. We had the option to order as a package or choose al a carte options. I had guests tell me that it was the best meal they had ever had at a wedding and even the pickiest of eaters enjoyed it. The wait staff were so sweet at the reception, they made sure we had food and drinks waiting for us because they knew that the bride and groom don't have much time to eat, and they were complimenting us the whole night. Reasonable cost considering there were 2 buffet options with soup, salad, sides and an open bar.
although this spot is a little off the beaten path, the location is gorgeous and it is so nice to have all the guests in one spot. i was married at the Soaring Eagle Lodge and the rooms are beautiful and the amenities are great. All my guests were very impressed. however, it can be kind of confusing knowing who you are dealing with up there. if you get married at the Soaring eagle lodge it is owned by different people so you end up working with two vendors really. it was a headache with bookings and trying to keep all the contracts straight
The coordinator was more than accomodating, extremely helpful, and just all around amazing. The chef for the reception went out of his way to make things just the way we like them and the food was amazing. Overall I couldn't ask for a better or more beautiful setting. I had no stress or worries becasue they took care of everything. I would use them again for anything, especially a wedding.
If a winter wedding is your dream than this is the place to have it. St. bernards chapel is a very photogenic church and the beautiful landscape and village are extremely picturesque. The employees and coordinator that we worked with were very professional and extremely willing to assist us with special requests. The guests all experienced the wonderful lodging and again the friendliness of the people who worked there. We absolutely would recommend this as a winter wonderland for weddings!
