Being located in an agriculturally rich region means that we use locally sourced, fresh ingredients and supplies whenever the season allows.
We are confident in our ability to not only provide delicious desserts but in creating art you can eat! Our skilled baker has proven to be able to create the vision our clients have for their beautiful custom cakes. Originally self taught and then later pursuing many hours of classes and specialized training has given us a great skill set in cake decorating.
Our staff has a lot of experience in the wedding industry, including work in wedding/special event planning. We are very familiar with local venues and vendors; Soulards is on many Southwest Michigan preferred vendor lists. We are proud to offer delivery and setup, in addition to the option of renting from our large collection of display and serving items; which is something else that sets us apart in our industry. We are willing to travel (and have!) out of our region for events!
Soulard's is owned and operated by a local family with deep roots in the Southwest Michigan area.
Owners Taylor (Soulard) and Matthew Prestidge opened the Soulard's storefront at the present location in late July of 2018; however the business started in 2011 as Soulard's Sweets in an addition built off of their home and Taylor specialized in custom cakes and dessert orders.

I could not be happier with soulards!! I had to push my wedding back 2 times due to having brain surgeries and I ended up having to cancel with them. They worked with me and were so kind about everything. Since I had already placed my deposit they still were able to give an amazing dessert tray for my wedding. It was a big hit!!! Everyone kept commenting on the dessert tray and asking where I got that from. Everyone loved it and thank you for being so supportive and accommodating during a tough time in my life. I love soulards!!
I booked this place for my wedding. I decided to do one of their dessert grazing tables. At the tasting the lady who helped us was nice, Olivia I think her name was but felt a little unorganized in fact didn’t write our date down and I had to keep reminding her of what it was. But we liked the food and opted to go for it. Fast forward, we are a week out from the wedding and they are emailing me telling me the time I’d like them to come won’t work because they overbooked themselves and have multiple deliveries to do that day. While I’m sympathetic to those things that ultimately isn’t my problem. I tried to be flexible but they wanted to set up during my ceremony which just wouldn’t work. After many emails and me have to rework my entire schedule around them we settled on 345-4 and they would set up in a different location and move the table when it was done. After doing all of that they are late and don’t show up until after four. My coordinator tried called them on my phone. But I’m assuming they had my number saved because they denied the call three times before she called on her phone and they answered promptly. Taylor answered and was INCREDIBLY rude to my person for very nasty with her about THEM being late. Then they get here they ignore all my notes about how I wanted specific things used for the cake and then leave in a huff. Don’t do weddings if you’re going to be mad about you being late. Lastly we did the grazing table which came with a small cake for us to cut. When we did our tasting we loved this white cake with a Bavarian filling it was amazing to say the least. The cake I are on my wedding day however, was dry, and the filling was vanilla instant pudding at best, awful. I wouldn’t waste my time with this place and I think this is my biggest regret from wedding day.
I'll preface this by saying that desserts were actually towards the bottom of my list when I was planning my June 2022 wedding, and I actually didn't get to taste more than a mouthful of cake during the event. I didn't even get to any of the cupcakes! The guests must have loved them though, because they were all eaten!
When we tested cupcakes before deciding, I will admit my husband and I thought their frosting was a bit too sweet for our taste. But of course this is a personal preference, and like I said, everyone loved them.
The displays looked amazing when they were delivered, and the cake looked perfect. The bite of vanilla cake with raspberry filling I had when my husband and I cut it was tasty. My only suggestion I have, especially for people on a budget, is to double and triple check with this business on the quantities you want for your event. We had one meeting where everything was done on paper, suggestions were made based on seat count, and after going over how many dozen cupcakes we would need over and over, it was a bit overwhelming for someone who doesn't deal with large quantities of food often. No detailed receipt was provided until around the date payment was due, and communication was lacking because I felt at the time that we were paying for more than we agreed on. We did have a large order that included an added dietary restriction, and everything ended up getting eaten. Just a heads up that you should make sure you have a digital as well as handwritten account of your order, and to reach out to communicate to make sure everyone is on the same page. Whatever you get will be delicious!
Our wedding cake was a HUGE hit, especially the vanilla cake with raspberry filling, our guests ate it up quick. The presentation was also stunning. Soulard's was great to work with, and very accommodating when my now husband was injured in a horrible accident just 5 weeks before our wedding!
Soulard's the cutest local bakery that truly makes the best desserts. We used them for our wedding cake and not only was it gorgeous and everything we asked for, the flavor of the cake and ganache is unmatched. Absolutely delicious and we are already so excited to eat the rest of it on our 1st anniversary. Super easy to work with, tastings available, and overall just a wonderful experience.
Not only do they make the cake look like you envision...it actually tastes amazing. They did a great job for our wedding and I'm very picky. We had coconut cake with a Nutella filling. Would easily hire them again. We also purchased full size cannoli's from them and those were really good as well. Great cake/treat vendor for your wedding in SW Michigan.
We used Soulards for our wedding dessert table. Taylor was great to work with and very flexible. She did the dessert table set up, and it looked beautiful. Soulards provided many dessert options- I went with cupcakes, brownies, mini cheese cakes, and cookies. Soulards offered a wide variety of flavors for each of the options. The guests were all raving about how delicious everything tasted. I would definitely recommend!
We did a cutting cake, cupcakes and mini cheesecakes and they were all amazing. My husband does not usually eat sweets but he has been snacking on the leftover cupcakes and cheesecakes since our wedding. We were not left boxes for the remaining treats, or at least we could not find them even when cleaning up, and we could definitely used them as we had plenty left over.
Taylor...are you OK?? You guys, this wedding cake decorator made an appointment with us for a tasting, confirmed via email. She totally no-showed and left her college-aged intern team to recover the business deal. They were only to provide us with LEFTOVER CAKE from a wedding the day before to sample. The interns were very nice and tried their best. Taylor, it's been 3.5 weeks. We've left messages. You would think you would have reached out...but sorry, here's this one-star review.
We ordered cupcakes from Soulard’s. They were amazing! We ended up getting lemon, pumpkin, German chocolate, and red velvet. Absolutely recommend!
Taylor handled our wedding desserts. Cupcakes and donuts were amazing. Went above and beyond for the setup. Our donut wall and cupcakes stands were beautifully set up. Guests were actually taking photos of the set up as it looked incredible. Affordable and very supportive of our wedding even during difficult COVID times. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you!!!
