We just got married this past weekend at Split Rock Resort. When we started wedding planning, we decided that we wanted to get married in the Poconos because of the beautiful mountains and lakes. We went on tours at 4 different venues and Split Rock was the most flexible and accommodating of all the ones we viewed. We really liked the wedding coordinator and knew that she would be a delight to work with for our year of engagement. Things went very smoothly leading up to the wedding, including our wonderful tasting that gave us a wonderful meal and the resort even let us stay in our bridal suite the night of our tasting for free which was wonderful!! The resort provides so many discounts and freebies for having your wedding there, it is a hard deal to pass up! 3 weeks before our wedding, we found out that our wedding coordinator had left and wasn't going to be there for our wedding day. This was very distressing and we couldn't believe that something that we had been expecting all year would be completely different. However, the person who took over, Miriam, was extremely organized and helpful. I cannot say enough about how wonderful she was. She was able to give us comfort that everything would work out just as we had planned and she was so responsive. On the weekend of the wedding, Miriam met with us and was there throughout the weekend to make sure everything went perfectly. She seriously went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy and everything was the way we wanted it to be. The waitstaff that were working during the wedding were so amazing in making sure that we had appetizers during cocktail hour when we were taking pictures, making sure we had drinks, and making sure that we got to eat dinner and cake (that's right, we had dinner AND cake at our wedding!!). Even the bartenders at the bars were wonderful in always trying to make sure we had drinks in hand and making us feel like stars of the show. The ceremony spot is absolutely beautiful and we had our reception under a tent on the patio outside the lodge which was gorgeous as well. I cannot say enough about how beautiful the grounds are there for a wedding and how much it was exactly what we wanted.
My only complaints about the venue, are unrelated to the actual wedding experience, but more about the lodging accommodations. We did like that the resort has multiple options for lodging (suites, hotel rooms, cottages, etc). However, a lot of people struggled with getting their rooms on time (including my bridal suite which luckily we got the day before the actual wedding, wasn't ready at 4:30 when check in is supposed to be at 4pm). There were also several problems with room keys and we weren't able to get into our room after our wedding because the lock was broken and had to be fixed! This wasn't super pleasant to deal with after being exhausted from getting married all day. The lodge rooms are quite outdated, which we wouldn't have minded as much but one of the radiators actually started to spark and caught on fire in one of our guest rooms, and a sink broke when a friend leaned on it after slipping getting out of the shower causing him to be rushed to the ER to get several stitches. The resort was willing to compensate us with dinner and breakfast due to these issues which was very appreciated. There were some tough times with some of the staff, but overall I would say that most of the employees were very pleasant and accommodating.
