My greatest wedding regret was booking Spruce Point Inn as our wedding venue. When I initially read reviews of Spruce Point Inn, I noticed throughout the last few years, there were lots of complaints. I reluctantly booked time to tour the venue. The wedding coordinator at the time wow'd us, and we decided that, with this new & thoughtful coordinator at the helm, we would be in great hands. Boy, were we wrong. The planning process was a nightmare from the moment we signed the contract (which was an endeavor in itself). Room rates tripled, the wedding coordinator became impossible to reach, and every step of the planning became an arduous task. For example - when our room block would empty, it would take several calls and emails and weeks to add a couple more, and in the end, we were told in May the inn had sold out for the weekend, amid yet another battle to add more rooms to our block. It was also at that time, we found out the coordinator had been fired. Our hopes of the process improving, were almost immediately extinguished. There was always a reason they couldn't act on the promises made by the previous coordinator, and we were treated as though we were ridiculous – for requiring that almost any of our previously agreed to terms be honored. Kenneth the new coordinator was un-organized, almost always requiring that I ask for things multiple times before receiving, approached every inquiry with a "NO", and acted as if we were inconveniencing him at every step. He promised the difficult process would be worth it. On Friday as our guests arrived, rooms were not ready at 4pm check-in (some not made available until almost 6:30 at night, with no apology). I have spent the last 12 months regretting booking my wedding here, and while the day was beautiful, and the 3rd coordinator (MaryAnn) they brought in from Arizona was wonderful, I am so upset I booked my wedding with a company who has made me feel so awful for having my wedding at their facility. It's a beautiful spot, I would recommend you find a venue that makes you feel welcome and special on your wedding day. Thank you MaryAnn for all you did! A couple of notes, they wont allow you to taste the food you are looking for at your wedding - they do one tasting, and if what you want is not on the menu, you will be left hoping it tastes as you imagine. If you do book here, get EVERYTHING in writing.
SPI exceeded every expectation we had for our wedding weekend. The venue underwent an ownership change after we booked last year, and we had many concerns over the transition. Sally Ann and Rylee had their hands full and were honest, transparent, and worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was accounted for prior to our big day. Once we were on site we were truly blown away by every detail and how smooth the weekend ran. Every member of the staff was kind and attentive and our guests were blown away by the level of service, the quality of food, and of course the intrinsic beauty of SPIs location and its rustic charm. I would highly recommend booking your wedding at SPI!
They are completely unresponsive. We love Boothbay Harbor and after we got engaged we knew that it was the area we would choose to get married. After doing initial research on venues and dropping in for an unofficial visit while staying at a neighboring hotel we felt Spruce Point Inn would be an ideal venue and aesthetic for us.
However, despite reaching out on multiple website, The Knot, The Wedding Wire, their own inquiry form and calling and leaving a message with the front desk we have not heard back from the wedding coordinator or received any additional information.
Spruce Point Inn really captured what we were looking for in a venue when we first visited: a wedding weekend experience, a beautiful location on the iconic Maine coastline, a gorgeous indoors reception hall, and locally sourced food. We felt that we got a lot of that experience in the end and our wedding was beautiful and ran smoothly, but the planning process with the team at Spruce Point was incredibly difficult and stressful. In the year planning our wedding, there were 3 different even coordinators, which made us have to do more work because with each new person, we had to repeat information we had already provided. The lack of communication was the most difficult part, as we felt like we were finalizing last details until the week before our wedding. We in fact did not finalize the food order until the week before the wedding, which made finalizing our budget difficult as we never received a complete and final quote for the food and beverage. We did enjoy our stay at the Inn, and the wedding itself was beautiful, but we would not recommend this venue due to our difficulties with the event planning process.
We were disappointed and dissatisfied with the Spruce Point Inn (SPI) management and their treatment of us for our August 2022 wedding. SPI bills itself as selling “wedding weekends” specifically citing its multiple locations on the property and presenting itself as a premier venue. Verbally, SPI stated that by booking a “wedding weekend” at SPI, our event would be the main event at the venue for the weekend. They noted that if another event was held during our “wedding weekend,” it would only be a small elopement. This was an important point for us in booking SPI, as many of our guests would be traveling to Maine for the weekend.
After signing the contract, we became wary of the SPI management and the representations they made prior to us signing the contract. The original estimated catering charges almost doubled, as did the room rates initially cited during our tour in January. The SPI Catering / Event Manager, Kayce, would forget key details or re-ask for information already provided.
In the week leading up to our wedding, while on the phone with Kayce she started to talk us out of hosting our rehearsal dinner/welcome party on the Ocean Front Deck. During this conversation, she disclosed SPI had booked another 80+ person ceremony and reception for the Friday during our “wedding weekend,” which fell on the night of our rehearsal dinner and welcome party. They refused to work with us to try to alleviate our feelings that we were deceived, instead telling us that an 80+ person wedding is a “small event.” This not only contradicted what we were told when we had booked, but it made parking for our guests (who were staying at SPI Thursday-Sunday) impossible.
Furthermore, when our florist contacted SPI to schedule the delivery of the greenery to accent the Pemaquid Reception Hall, they were told to install the greenery on the chandelier and banister on Thursday. This allowed our wedding decor (which we paid for) to be used by the other wedding. By the time our Saturday night wedding began, the greenery was wilted and clearly used. Additionally, for our rehearsal dinner/welcome party, SPI attempted to serve a lower-end bar package then we had paid for and prior to the start of our Welcome Party attempted to remove one of the two bars we had ordered as part of the event design.
Kayce had assured us that she would be present and visible throughout our wedding day. On the day of our wedding, Kayce was nowhere to be found, aside from when she was providing tours to other couples for their upcoming weddings. When I made my way to the dock, I had been told that there would be a golf cart to bring me down. However, despite our wedding coordinator (who we thankfully hired separately) trying to coordinate the cart multiple times it was nowhere to be found, as Kayce was using it to escort other couples around the property.
Now with all of this being said, the location of SPI is beautiful—you cannot beat it. The food was amazing. The waitstaff, including the catering lead Liberty, were attentive, apologetic, and hardworking. However, in the weeks leading up to our wedding day, we felt deceived and disrespected. The management, Kayce and the general manager Harper (who never responded to our E-mail expressing our disappointment) behaved unprofessionally and left us wishing we booked our wedding with a different venue. It was certainly not the level of service nor the experience of a high-end wedding venue/resort.
My husband and I had our beautiful wedding here on Labor Day weekend. You cannot beat the location, view and the general staff at this resort. This resort being Pet friendly was a huge reason why we chose SPI for our wedding venue and this place did not disappoint us when it came to that. What was disappointing was the sales and catering manager, Kayce, who is your wedding contact for the resort. Kayce’s role is confusing as the email you receive when you back inquire about your event will mention her years of wedding planning and event experience and how she’s thrown events for 200+ people. You are lead to believe by her email and the tour that she will be there for you every step of the way and the entire wedding weekend. A month before my wedding she told me over the phone that she is going to offer herself to be my “day of person” and that I can just tip her out at the end of the night. Kayce said she doesn’t offer this service to every couple and made me feel that she was doing me some great favor. Her communication and customer service skills are horrendous. I’d expect a manager with “years of wedding planning experience” to have better customer service skills. She also scheduled 3 site visit tours with other couples during my wedding day. My day of coordinator (that we hired last minute) had to stop her from entering the bridal suite with a couple while myself, bridesmaids and mother were relaxing and having hair and makeup done. It was disgusting to watch her parade around other couples for the amount of money we spent at SPI alone (over $50,000) on my wedding day. The reviews from a few years ago are no longer accurate and clearly the new owners and Covid have effected the level of service from management and what you get for the price. You will not be assigned a wedding planner like years past and Kayce will promise you the world to get you to sign the contact and take your money . My tip for any future SPI brides is if Kayce is still working there, hire a day of coordinator. For the amount of money they charge no couple should feel lied too, disrespected, have a manger directly ask me for a tip, and not have this same manager use my wedding as a way to bring in business. If you want to charge top dollar, you need to have managers with top dollar experience and customer service skills.
My wife and I got married at Spruce Point Inn last October. We fell in love with the property and scenery when we took our initial tour back in April 2020. Little did we know, the property was sold and was under new management by the time we had our wedding. We signed our contract with the original management/staff but ultimately got a different level of customer service from the new team.
PROS:
- SPI is beautiful! The view of Bar Harbor is amazing.
- The rooms have some age to them. Regardless, they're not as bad as other reviewers have said in other posts. If you’re considering staying at SPI, I suggest the lodges.
- The waitstaff, banquet staff, and bartenders were out of this world. They seemed like they cared unlike some people at SPI.
- Food = delicious! Best wedding food we’ve ever had
CONS:
- The lack of communication with Gil, the (former) GM, and the event planner would be an understatement. It was nonexistent.
- The event planner, Kayce, is unqualified and totally unprofessional. Every step of the planning process was like pulling teeth. She never responded to our time sensitive emails until weeks later and multiple follow-ups. Kayce was also missing during reception and cocktail hour (More later) She was routinely rude to the bride’s parents, promised them the world and never delivered. I could go on: lack of interpersonal skills, organizational skills… You name it!
- Cocktail hour was planned to be held on the deck. The view is beautiful, it was half of the reason we booked our wedding at SPI. Unfortunately, there was terrible rain the morning of the wedding, and we had to make a decision by 10 AM (their rule) as to whether to proceed with the ceremony and cocktail hour on the deck. The team told us that we could likely get through the ceremony while there was a break in the rain, but the winds would make cocktail hour an issue. They offered to set up cocktail hour under the tent next to the hall. The bride jumped at this offer, as she was just happy to hear that the ceremony could be outside. Fast forward to cocktail hour, and it was not windy. And there was no bar set up under the tent. If it was only a matter of moving servers (which is what it seemed like in the end), why did we need to decide by 10 AM? We would never have agreed to move cocktail hour under the tent if we knew it would be like that. Also, there were no staff members present to point our guests to the new location. Management also never told our wedding coordinator (who we hired separately very late in the process, as we were getting less confident in SPI management) nor the groom of the location change. Thus the DJ was never alerted and we almost didn’t have music at our makeshift cocktail hour. The brides’ parents also insisted that they wanted appetizers to be plentiful, agreeing to pay extra for extra rounds of trays to satisfy all of the guests, and yet some of the guests never received any of the appetizers. Management should have figured out a way to make our cocktail hour happen in the location that we wanted with the amount of food requested. If the ceremony could be there, one more hour in that location shouldn't have been an issue.
There's so much more that we want to share, but there's a character limit.
SPI promised us a beautiful setting, attentive staff and organization - they dropped the ball. Instead of joy and happiness about every aspect of our wedding, we feel angry and upset over how we were misled by management. Stay away.
Perfect Maine Seaside Wedding Venue: Our wedding at Spruce Point Inn was absolutely the best day! We HIGHLY recommend having your wedding here. It is the perfect place to spend a weekend with your friends and family. It has woods, ocean, sunset, and it feels like you're at a summer camp in the best way! Due to their diverse setting, you will get so many fun photo backdrops for your special day.
We did not have a wedding planner and we did not need one, Lisa and Betsy helped us make our wedding day dreams come alive. They recommended vendors and gave honest feedback on what works best in the venue and for guests. We trusted their opinions and would recommend working with them to anyone. Planning a wedding in 2020 was especially stressful, but having SPI as our venue and partner helped put us at ease. They worked with us on ideas and back up plans. Safety was of great importance to us and them and they made sure the necessary precautions were taken.
All of our guests were impressed with the food, and so were we. I didn't think it was possible to have food that good at a wedding, but they were able to duplicate what we tasted during the tasting on the larger, wedding day, scale.
Overall, our wedding was so fun for us and our guests. I wish we could do it again! This venue is the BEST! Looking forward to visiting again and again.

Spruce Point Inn was an absolute dream venue for our wedding. From the oceanside cocktail hour on the deck to the wooden cathedral ceilings and atmosphere in Pemaquid Hall, this place could not have been more perfect. The SPI staff was top class and made sure our wedding day was exactly what we had envisioned.
Betsy was incredible to work with and seamlessly coordinated our day from start to finish. We had multiple planning sessions leading up to the wedding day and she was always available to answer any questions we had. She took care of every detail, big or small, and ensured that the day went smoothly. We can’t thank Betsy enough!
We are so lucky and grateful that we had our wedding at SPI. SPI now holds such a special place in our hearts and we are excited to continue going back for many years to come!
We got married at SPI in June 2019 and could not have asked for a more perfect day! Everyone we have spoken to loved the food and venue. We are so excited to come back for our first anniversary next summer!
We fell in love with Spruce Point from our very first visit (in the middle of February)! The Spruce Point team, venue and food is incredible. When we started to plan our wedding, we were looking for a venue to spend a memorable weekend with our friends and family to celebrate our wedding-- and Spruce Point was perfect. The team at Spruce Point are experts and make the planning process so easy and stress-free. The entire weekend was relaxing, and we were truly able to enjoy time with all of our friends and family. We can't wait to return!
Spruce Point provided us with the wedding of our dreams. Planning our wedding out of state had the potential to be challenging, but everyone here made it easy. There was not one detail that was missed for our packed weekend. It was amazing that everything could be done on site. The staff was friendly and helpful and Betsy was a fantastic communicator and made sure we didn't miss anything in the planning stages or during the weekend. Most importantly our guests we're thrilled with the location. Spruce point will forever be a special place to us.
Thank you Spruce Point Inn for making our wedding dreams come true! Everything was truly amazing, and we couldn't have imagined a more perfect wedding weekend in July 2018. Betsy made sure the wedding day/weekend went smoothly by coordinating everything from start to finish, and the staff on the wedding day was exceptional. We had the ceremony on the Oceanfront deck and reception in Pemaquid Hall, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision. We also had the rehearsal dinner (Friday) and farewell brunch (Sunday) at SPI. The décor, food service, and transitions between the events went above and beyond our expectations. Cindy in reservations was also a pleasure to work with and very responsive to assist our guests with booking the rooms for the destination wedding. Our guests cannot wait to go back to SPI, and they could not stop raving about how amazing the venue and weekend was. Our wedding weekend was everything we imagined and more, and we cannot thank SPI enough for creating our perfect wedding weekend.
We organized and planned our wedding at Spruce Point Inn in only 4 months and it was a resounding success at such a lovely and bucolic spot on the Maine coastline. The staff at Spruce Point Inn were very organized, attentive and accommodating and it made for a smooth and memorable wedding day for us and our family and friends. We all enjoyed a delicious plated dinner (the clam chowder received rave reviews) and the reception was lively and fun inside the beautiful Pemaquid Hall. We received lots of positive feedback from our guests regarding the beautiful venue and many special memories were created on our magical wedding weekend at Spruce Point Inn.
HUGE thanks to Spruce Point Inn!! Our August wedding when on without a hitch! Their years of experience showed throughout the wedding planning process, making our experience fun and much less stressful! The venue is BEAUTIFUL! Any one would be lucky share the best day of their life with SPI in Boothbay Harbor, ME!
My husband and I knew we wanted to get married in Maine (my home state) and by the ocean if possible. We looked at a few different venues from southern Maine up through the midcoast but as soon as we drove up to Spruce Point Inn we knew it was the place for us. The property is impeccably maintained the views are like being in a living postcard. What goes completely unmatched to any other venue is the quality of the people working here. Cindy, Sonya and Betsy are your ladies and the best team you could possibly have. From start to finish they have weddings down and they have seen it all. While they're experienced at hosting weddings at this venue it will be anything but cookie-cutter. You can really have the freedom to create the event you envision and can make it as personalized as you like all while having support through the entire planning process and day of to see the dream come to life. The Inn has a variety of accommodations to suit couples, families or large friend groups. Especially important to us was that they were able to make the entire day very easy for some of our older guests with golf carts to help transport from place to place. We got married on the oceanfront deck in July and celebrated with a reception in the Pemequid room. This space with the tall ceilings and grand entrance staircase couldn't be more perfect to have fun with your family and friends! The dance floor is already there which is one more thing you can cross off your to-do list and SPI has a bakery they work with for cakes that not only look beautiful but taste delicious. I really can't say enough good things about this place and especially how wonderful Cindy, Sonya and Betsy were! Thank you so much for making our day so special and we hope to visit the resort again soon <3
My husband and I got married at the Spruce Point Inn in August of 2017 and it could not have been a more perfect experience!
The exceptional work that SPI did for our wedding was above and beyond in every sense of the phrase. It was a truly seamless process from start to finish and I felt like I was walking around in a dream on our big day. Our guests were blown away by the level of service, attention to detail and incredibly smooth execution of everything.
We’ve gotten amazing feedback from so many of our family members and friends — they can’t stop talking about the friendliness and professionalism from the staff, the food, the decor, the overall vibe of the resort…pretty much everything one could think of, they were raving about it! The food was unbelievable - we had steak and salmon and everything was cooked to perfection. Our signature cocktail was a blueberry mojito and it was a big hit! Our cake was prepared by Sweet Sensations in Rockport, SPI's affiliated bakery, and everyone said it was the best wedding cake they'd ever had.
The event management staff was the BEST. They were so calm and so extraordinary in all the ways that I needed them to be there for us. Everything we needed, they were one step ahead of my thinking, anticipating whatever needed to be done in exactly the way we wanted it.
From the very beginning, Spruce Point Inn was our first choice venue and I know that I will always look back on our wedding day with amazement and gratitude at how the SPI team brought our vision to life. It was nothing short of absolutely perfect.
The Spruce Point Inn is a beautiful property in quintessential New England. The grounds are well maintained & updated every season. Carolyn the event planner, seems to do a little bit of everything at the Spruce Point Inn & is absolutely the best contact for wedding events. She showed us the venue & her passion for SPI from the first time we met was evident. I knew she would make sure all of the important details were taken care of for our big day, & over the months of communicating leading up to the wedding everything was aligned. For our wedding we had a total of 5 events at the SPI – Rehearsal Dinner, Welcome Reception, Wedding Ceremony, Wedding Reception and Farewell Brunch.
My favorite thing about Spruce Point Inn is that everything is located right on property. We were the only wedding that weekend so it felt like everyone on the property was there to celebrate with us. We got married on the Oceanfront Deck, which allowed the ladies to get ready in the Pemaquid upstairs room and do first look photos on the trail in the woods. We used the recommended make-up artist & hair stylist from the Spruce, loved our final looks. Our formal portraits were on the waterfront before the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful, the deck had been recently resurfaced and the flowers that SPI have in the flower boxes were gorgeous. Carolyn was right there to make sure that everything flowed smoothly with the processional. The ceremony was a dream and then my husband and I bopped down from cocktail hour on the deck to take photos on the pier. Loved the options for appetizers – people said we had the best wedding apps! It was great that Carolyn/chef let us customize and change things for cocktail hour, reception and brunch to our preferred tastes. Cocktail hour was cut 15-20 minutes short due to light rain which was frustrating because we lost that time for open bar and several of the guests moved over to the Pemaquid for the reception where the bar was not open yet. I (the bride) and my father asked the bar to open in the Pemaquid and they wouldn’t open it which was embarrassing for guests… it was about a total of 45 minutes between the cocktail hour bar closing and us coming down for our entrance so it was a long time for guests to wait. The bartenders both said they needed Carolyn’s explicit permission. We spent a ton of money on the wedding/weekend so it was frustrating and embarrassing that they didn’t open the bar earlier as a result of the other bar closing earlier. After we had our entrance everything flowed smoothly, first dance etc. with help from Carolyn organizing the speeches timing with the DJ and making sure that we ate & had cake cutting, flower toss. We even had a moose show up at our wedding , a baby moose right outside the deck! The Pemaquid is an amazing space, the ceilings are stunning – we did the string lighting to add extra charm. The dance floor is huge – we had all ~200 guests on it. All of the waiters and bartenders were so nice. We had a blast! We wanted the night to continue at Bogies pub after, we had organized it to stay open until 12 and told our guests to go there, but then it was closed so that was also embarrassing. We ended up having the party in one of the cottages which was lots of fun. There were a lot of details to the wedding weekend that went perfectly but the bar stuff was frustrating. I feel so lucky that we were able to have our wedding at this very special spot!
We had an amazing wedding day. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to Carolyn, the most AMAZING wedding coordinator ever. SPI is pet friendly and we were able to include our dog in our wedding, which was really important to us.
SPI does an incredible job of maintaining the property and our guests couldn't get over how beautiful the venue was. Would definitely recommend.
We can't wait to go back next year for our anniversary (stay included in the wedding package!).
We love Spruce Point Inn! It is a fantastically beautiful wedding venue, our guests were floored and with good reason! Everything on our wedding day went without a hitch. Carolyn our wedding coordinator was amazing. I don't think there are enough adjectives to encompass how great she is! She really made everything so easy and took all the stress off our plate. Can't rave about her enough. But generally all of the staff we encountered (from the bar to the spa) were amazing, thoughtful and helpful. They really made everything such a pleasure and we felt they went above and beyond for us. Couldn't have been happier with our choice of venue!
My husband and I were married at The Spruce Point Inn in May and had the best day, it was so much fun. The staff was nothing but helpful from start to finish and helped us to coordinate rooms for 80 guests traveling in from out of town. Our coordinator, Jillian, was a pleasure and so very helpful in the months leading up to our big day. The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and overall we would recommend this location very highly to anyone looking for a gorgeous coastal Maine location for a wedding.
We chose Spruce Point Inn from a website. Everything in the pictures is accurate. It is a gorgeous location! Cherie was our wedding coordinator and I couldn't have asked for anyone better! She was there the whole step of the way to make sure our day was exactly what we wanted and helped plan small details that I hadn't even thought about. She even stepped in to fix a minor wardrobe malfunction just before the ceremony! She is fabulous and it was obvious she loves her job and wants each couple to have exactly what they want. We had a lobster bake for dinner, and even though it was whole lobsters, it still turned out beautiful. All the food was amazing. We even had food and champagne in our room after the reception! Could not have asked for a better experience. Beautiful views, excellent food, and amazing staff. We can't wait to go back!
