We celebrated our marriage on 9/24/22 with a mountainside ceremony at the base of Spruce Peak. Our reception was at Spruce Camp with an after party at Whistle Pig. The ceremony was absolutely breathtaking, with a view of Mt Mansfield in the background as we exchanged vows. The reception was the perfect venue for our crowd of roughly 200 and the food was incredible! The after party at the Whistle Pig was so cozy with an outdoor fire, blankets, and lots of snacks inside.
We really enjoyed working with the folks at the Lodge to ensure our perfect day was… truly perfect! They responded quickly and were very detail oriented. They were a pleasure to work with.
(We had our rehearsal dinner at the golf club & welcome party at Alpine Club.)

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're so happy to hear that your wedding day was everything you dreamed of and more. A mountainside ceremony with the stunning view of Mt. Mansfield is such a magical setting, and we’re thrilled tha...
t it made your vows even more special. It’s also great to know that both your reception at Spruce Camp and the cozy after-party at Whistle Pig were a hit with your guests! The outdoor fire and blankets sound like the perfect way to end such a memorable day.
We are so grateful for your kind words about the team here at the Lodge. It was truly a pleasure working with you to bring your vision to life, and we’re glad everything came together seamlessly. It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, with the rehearsal dinner and welcome party rounding out the celebrations perfectly. Congratulations again on your marriage – we wish you both a lifetime of love, adventure, and happiness!
We were married at Stowe Mountain Resort at the Cliff House venue on top of Mt. Mansfield. I cannot say enough about our experience with the venue staff - especially Kristin Zimmerman.
Our sales contact, Deb Cates, worked out availability on our requested date as it was already slated for an event. We were very appreciative of the flexibility in accommodating us and were so happy with the Cliff House for ceremony and reception.
Kristin was our wedding planner and was on top of everything. She organized our tasting, got us special wine and beer requests, found desserts for guests that had food allergies, worked with our vendors, got approval for locations for our pictures... need I say more? She was a calming influence throughout this process which was also very appreciated. My husband and I work full time and we had chosen the venue only 4 months before our wedding date so having her guide us through the process was so helpful.
We really lucked out - we had great weather and it was peak foliage on our day. The ceremony was outside and looked out over the magnificent view of the valley with all the beautiful colors. The reception was inside - we had ~60 guests so it was perfect for us and accommodated a 5 piece band. The food was wonderful - guests went out of their way to compliment the food. And of course, the beverages were great. Great food and drink were really important to us and Stowe Mtn did not disappoint.
There was nothing that I would change - it exceeded our expectations and we really can’t thank the wedding staff for all they did to make our day so special and wonderful!
Todd and I fell in love in the Swiss mountains, so it was no question that we wanted a winter wedding to celebrate our commitment to each other. We lived in Boston, so it would be a destination for everyone. Stowe Mountain Resort was the only place that could come near the Swiss charm and scenery that we loved. With the mountain face, the Lodge, and the whole ski ambiance up there, it was an easy decision.
We had our wedding in March 2015, which is definitely their high season and highest risk time of year for weather, so we were quite nervous about all the things that could go wrong on our special day. We planned for the ceremony at the Mansfield Ballroom, the reception at the gorgeous Cliff House, then the after party continued down in the bar at the Inn at the Mountain. I will agree with previous reviews about having everything in writing. This also helped us lay out and share our expectations for back up ideas as well. Fortunately, we were in professional hands with Lacy, and we didn't need any of those plans.
Lacy worked with us from the start to plan the timing and logistics for each of the events. She was transparent about having a back up option in case of the weather, and plans to evacuate the guests in snow-cats when the winds kicked up (!!).. but through it all, we felt like she was a great partner to keep things together.
The day of the wedding, it did snow a bit during the day and they were watching for high winds at the top of the mountain, but the teams were so committed to making this day special for us while still keeping everyone safe at the same time. i felt that any deviations from the plan were well discussed as options ahead of time. In the end, you can't change the weather, and you have to hope things just go your way!
Luckily for us, the day went off without a hitch. The ceremony was absolutely perfect (despite my groom passing out at the altar due to lack of food - remember to feed the couple!), and the evening at the cliff house was unforgettable. The ambiance they managed to create just lit up the whole room. Our guests still rave about how romantic and rustic the setting was. The food was divine (HUGE props to the chefs back there!!), from main course to even our after party sliders! Guests were amazed at how seamless the night seemed to have gone off, despite the winds that made us leave a bit early! The party then just shifted to the bar, food moved down, and everyone continued into the wee hours. I still hear comments about how this was the best wedding they ever attended - I mean, we had a gondola as transportation! The hot drinks and blankets even made it a cosy ride!
I have to thank Lacy, Samantha, the bartenders, the chefs, and the waitstaff at the Cliff House for their professionalism, dedication to service, and planning skills. This remains one of our favorite nights of our lives. We plan to return every year to celebrate!
Any questions?
My husband and I were married at Stowe Mountain Resort in September. We had our ceremony, cocktail and reception all at the Spruce Peak Great Room and Patio. We had a brunch up the gondola at Cliff House the morning after our wedding. To say the wedding was perfect would be an understatement! We do not live in Vermont, so this was a destination wedding for us. We've be vacationing in Stowe for the past 9+ years and absolutely love this quintessential Vermont town. Whether you live in VT or simply love the state, Stowe Mountain Resort is the absolute perfect place for a wedding. It's location at the base of Mount Mansfield provides the best scenery in Stowe. The staff is so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Having a wedding 8.5 hours from where you live could have it's challenges, but for us, the process was so easy thanks to the staff at Stowe Mountain Resort, notably, Wendy and Lacy! I was a pretty laid back bride, but even if I was total bridezilla, this place would get the job done! Wendy was constantly in touch with our other local vendors, coordinating everything for our big day, which allowed us to focus on other things, like being excited about our upcoming wedding! The resort is very rustic, which was exactly what we wanted. We'd been dining in the "Great Room" during ski season for years, so it was really fun to get married in a place we have enjoyed and will enjoy for years to come! There isn't a better room in all of Stowe, actually probably in all of Vermont or even the country for that matter when it comes to rustic wedding venues (I'm bias, but really it's beautiful). Massive wood beams run down the entire ceiling and stick furniture is positioned around the room for cocktail tables and lounge areas. The resort has wonderful rustic decorations including birch pillars and vases available for use. If it's chilly, there's a huge stone fireplace outside as well as a cozy fireplace inside in the same which could be used as a back-up location should it rain. So many brides worry about the weather on their wedding day, if you choose SMR, you can put that worry aside. Any place on this property, inside or out, is breathtaking! Our wedding food was absolutely delicious, the chef takes pride is using as many local and in season ingredients as possible. Everything is such high quality. Wedding food can be difficult to master and trying to deliver 100-300 excellent meals is quite a task, but the chef and his team at SMR absolutely delivered! It was so important to us that everyone have a really delicious meal. Our family & friends raved about the food, we've had so many guests tell us it was the best wedding food they've ever had, if not in general! In addition to the wonderful amenities for our wedding, our guests lodged at the Inn at the Mountain and Stowe Mountain Lodge. The staff at both places is so friendly and helpful. Whether they were providing information for our guests about things to do in town or delivering our welcome bags to each room, their professionalism and expertise was amazing. After skiing in Stowe for years, I've always known the resort staff is awesome and the quality of everything there is impeccable, their help with our wedding was even better than I could have expected. It was so important to us that our wedding really reflect our personalities and for people to look around and say, "yup, this is SO them!"...thanks to Stowe Mountain Resort, we achieved that! We couldn't be happier, GO STOWE!!!!! :)
Ben and I chose to have our wedding at Spruce Camp Base Lodge initially for a few reasons: sentimental (Stowe holds a special place in our hearts), natural beauty (the lodge itself is stunning, not to mention the views of the mountains outside), and for the rain plan (with a lot of previous experience with rain on important days, we knew we had to love the rain plan just as much as the outdoor plan). What we got in return was so much more than just those three initial reasons!
The more we visited Spruce Camp over the course of our planning, the more we realized just how stunning the architecture of the building is, without any decorations. We loved that the building could stand on its own in terms of decor, and that we could add minimal accents to transfer the room from a base lodge to our reception.
We worked closely with Wendy Collins, our events coordinator through Stowe Mountain Resort from the beginning to the end of the planning stages. Wendy is Stowe's best kept secret - neither Ben nor myself could imagine planning the wedding, or what it would have been like without her! Wendy helped take whispers of ideas we had and turned them into reality. Her calming reassurance made us confident that we were making the right decisions for etiquette and for our vision for the day. She was available to us to help answer any questions or problem solve any issues, before, during and after the big day. She also helped coordinate information with Gabi Lungu and Maggy Dunphy at Stowe Mountain Lodge, which was incredibly helpful and made for a seamless weekend. When I think back on our wedding, and how happy we were to choose Stowe, Wendy always comes to mind!
The food was a very important element for my mother. Not having been able to taste the food before we signed on at Spruce Camp, she was a little nervous. However, at the tasting, all of her worries were put to rest; the food was fantastic! The chef was more than willing to help us create a menu that satisfied our guests, especially those with dietary restrictions. We felt incredibly comfortable after the tasting, knowing that the food was in his hands!
We couldn't imagine our wedding anywhere other than Stowe, and at Spruce Camp Base Lodge. We felt as if we were treated like royalty and they helped us create a perfect vision of what was one of our most important and memorable days. We are so thankful to Stowe, Spruce Camp and Wendy!
We could not have asked for a better day or weekend at Stowe Mountain Resort. Everything from the beautiful setting of our venue, the Cliff House, to the very accommodating staff made our entire wedding weekend one that my husband and I, as well as our guests, will remember forever. Our wedding planner Wendy, helped ensure everything was perfect for our big day and even helped assemble our wedding favors, something we had no idea she was planning to do. Both her and Lacy made sure every wedding detail was taken care of including delivering boutonnieres to the groom and groomsmen and transporting the bridal party to the wedding. We could not have asked for a better venue, lodging site, or staff to work with. We are still elated after our perfect day and we are not sure if we will ever be able to express our gratitude to the staff of Stowe Mountain Resort.
We couldn’t have asked for a more magical wedding venue and experience than we received at Spruce Base Camp/ Stowe Mountain Resort. First and foremost the view, the air, the mountain, the resort are all just magnificent. You can't paint a more beautiful backdrop. The venue itself was rustic chic which is exactly what we wanted. With floor to ceiling windows in a massive wooden circular room overlooking the mountain with inside and outside fireplaces and a gorgeous terrace! It was absolutely spectacular before adding in the amazing flowers and decor.
We are a family of foodies and we really wanted an event with different and delicious food where people mingled but still with enough seating for everyone (this is not an easy feat to accomplish). We were able to work with them to come up with the perfect menu and presentation for the event. The food was just unbelievable, for example, the pulled pork tacos were by far the best tacos anyone has ever had in their life, we are still craving them today and the lamb chops were to die for. On top of making a 5* dinning experience at a wedding, They also accommodated my 30+ deadly allergies with such care and diligence. We can’t thank the team at Stowe Mountain Resort enough for making our wedding weekend such a huge success that people can't stop talking about!!
My husband and I wanted to have a laid-back wedding with a small group of our family and close friends. Lacy, the wedding coordinator we worked with was AWESOME! We planned the whole wedding in about 6 weeks, without ever going to the resort until we arrived for our wedding. Maybe a bit non-traditional, but we didn't want our whole lives to revolve around wedding planning. Lacy really knew how to work with us, listened carefully to what we wanted and made some great suggestions along the way.
The wedding was Columbus Day weekend. Our ceremony was on Mt. Mansfield near the area where the lift ends. It was a beautiful site for the ceremony and Lacy and her crew took care of making sure it went perfectly!
The reception was held at the Inn on the Mountain (a part of the resort). Again, it was just what we wanted. Good food, easy-going, fun evening to celebrate our marriage. I was actually quite impressed with the food - our group included foodies, carnivores, vegetarians, vegans and paleo folks, and they were able to create a menu that everyone loved and stayed within our budget.
We had about 30 guests, all of whom stayed at the Inn. I can't say enough about how great Lacy and her team are - they exceeded our expectations every step of the way. I would highly recommend having your wedding or other event here.
Oh, and if you do - the bride should definitely splurge on getting ready at the spa at the resort - they were terrific! It is beautiful there, and was a great place to relax for a little while before the big event.
Desiree took a picture that I had brought in and did wonders to my hair. She made it better than the photo, I had no idea that my hair could be that perfect! The best part was that it stayed up comfortably the entire night. I told Robin to do my make-up simply and naturally. She highlighted me in all the right places. I have been trying to copy what she did ever since, it was not too much make-up but it made me feel beautiful. Ladies if you want to look beautiful these two are phenomenal. Maggie, the person in charge of the spa services was very personable and made me feel so comfortable also, thank you to everyone at the Stowe Mountain Resort!
We knew we wanted to have our wedding in the mountains during the winter in a location with a view. Therefore, we were excited to discover the Cliff House located in Stowe Mountain Resort. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate on the day of our wedding and we had to move to our back-up location. Obviously, this is not Stowe’s fault. However, aside from the location disappointment, the entire experience of working with Stowe left much to be desired. Basically, we found that what we were told and what was delivered only held if it was in a written contract. And, at times it seemed like we were more of an inconvenience for the resort than an event generating a considerable amount of revenue.
First, as the Cliff House is on top of the mountain, the only way to it is on the gondola. After being rushed through our rehearsal as the gondola closed at 4pm, we were forced to wait in the cold for 20 minutes as the crew took gondola cars off-line. All they had to do was let 3 cars through and they acted as if they didn’t see us waiting there in the cold.
Second, due to the fact that the Cliff House is only accessible via a gondola, we had to select a back-up location incase there were some gondola issues (which we were told had never happened before) on the day of our wedding. We were originally told that we could use Spruce Peak as our back-up location for the same cost as the Cliff House only to later find out that resort management had decided to open Spruce Peak for dinner service and if we wanted to use it there would be a $15,000 food and beverage minimum (difficult to reach when wedding attendees are only 50 people). When we began to say that that wasn’t what we were told, the response was that had there been a contract, they would have been forced to honor it but since there wasn’t we had to agree to the $15,000 or find another back-up location.
Finally, we couldn’t get the resort to agree to early check-in times for guests arriving from out of town. As it was the winter and busy season for Stowe maybe this is somewhat understandable. However, some of our guests couldn’t check-in until 5pm, an hour after posted check-in time! Even then the rooms weren’t completely clean. Additionally, members of the wedding party were using one of the cottage’s that is part of The Inn at the Mountain and even though it hadn’t been used the night before (or possibly all week for that matter), it too wasn’t ready or completely clean by 5pm.
In spite of the resort and their issues, we managed to have a great time at our wedding. Luckily, the food was great, we had some great local vendors, and with our friends and family we looked past the problems during the wedding and had a great time. Yet, we suspect that most of the better employees from Stowe Mountain Resort now work at the five-star Stowe Mountain Lodge down the road. Whatever the case, find any location other than Stowe Mountain Resort to hold your event. And if, like us, you fall in love with the Cliff House, remember that nothing is final until it is in a written contract and regardless of the amount of money you and your guests will be spending, don’t expect service to be better than average.
