I liked working with this team (Joy and her assistant did makeup) for the most part, however everything felt unorganized. Also, I think they might have been double booked the day of my wedding because they kept pushing back the time they would show up. This was concerning because they only had one person to do hair (Joy) and another to do makeup for me, my mother and the bridal part. Every time I questioned what time we should start hair and makeup, I was assured we’d have plenty of time. And maybe we would have it they hadn’t shown up late. Hair was at least 45 mins late and make up was at least an hour late. As a result, everyone was rushing and one of the bridesmaids was burned on her face with a curling iron. In addition, we ended up starting the wedding late, and had to rush pictures. Joy seemed nice and was very willing to do whatever was needed to make sure I loved my hair and makeup. Unfortunately, by the time it was my turn, I just wanted it done so I could get dressed and get to the wedding. If you are going to use her, I’d strongly suggest building in extra time for hair and makeup if you have multiple people getting hair and make up done.

Booked: September 10, 2018 Wedding: June 1, 2019 I originally had Joy and her team booked for my wedding, but only recently canceled my contract with her. I didn't receive services, so I cannot write a review regarding her work. However, I will write a review as to what led to making my decision to cancel our contract with only 13 weeks before my wedding. Joy has fair reviews and her price range is decent, which is why I made the decision to book her. Shortly after booking her in September 2018, I noticed a few red flags that I tried to ignore over the months. I want to preface this with reiterating that I did not receive services for her work, but I am writing this review in order to warn future brides and maybe provide Joy with some ways to improve her business. In short, her communication is not prompt, and her organization and use of technology is not up to par in order to run a business to serve clients. The first red flag: We communicated at first via TheKnot, apparently her account is not up to date and she cannot receive documents. Not a problem, email is much easier for me anyway. However, I didn't know this. She sent me the documents via TheKnot, so I assumed this is her preferred method of communication. She replied requesting that I send them to her via email, but didn't provide an email. I had to follow up on it. Second red flag: She got my name wrong in an email... (It's in the email...) Third red flag: Kathryn P's review. At this point, I pushed all of these aside because these were minor mistakes, and the review was done in 2011. She could have improved since. Fourth red flag: Her response to Sheree E's review in 2017. This is when I began to have major concerns, but at this point I had already signed the contract. In her response to this client, Joy never apologizes. I have worked in customer service and even if the client/customer is wrong, a professional handles it with much more grace than what she displayed. Joy's comment seemed defensive and unprofessional. A better way to handle a situation like this would have been to apologize at minimum. "I am so sorry you were not happy with the services you received..." would be a great start. The final strike: I contacted Joy a little over a week ago to schedule a trial run for my wedding. I had to follow up with her a week later on my request. At that point, she emailed me back saying she did not have my contract, but knew that my wedding was in Bluffton (not even close). I had emailed my contract to her September 10, 2018 and it is now February 2019. Because of her lack of basic tech skills and organization, I did not feel comfortable trusting her to provide adequate services. Her response was unprofessional and excused herself with the fact that her phone crashed back in December and was only able to retrieve the basic spreadsheet. No professional strictly uses their phone to run their business. Regardless, it was via email. A simple search on ANY device would have turned up the contract as I did in order to confirm that I sent it Sept. 10, 2018.

Joy and team did a fabulous job on my hair and makeup. Both my hair and makeup held up through heat, tears and dancing the night away. Joy was flexible with all the prep leading up to my big day and did a few different trials so I could decide on the best look. Additionally, I had 14 girls who needed their hair done for our ceremony and Joy planned everything to a tee!

Joy is awesome!! She is amazingly talented and fun to work with. She listened to my ideas and also offered her professional opinion. She suggested an updo for my wedding day and I went with her suggestion. I am so glad I did! My hair looked great the entire night! Denise did my make up and it looked fantastic! She is also super talented and professional. I can’t say enough about these how wonderful these two ladies are! I highly recommend them!
