dispute a review. I am doing so to clear up some inaccuracies and perceptions. I would never say to a potential client that “I am good at taking photos but not good at everything else”. I said that I am a much better photographer than business woman when I am asked why my prices are low and I explain that I believe that everyone deserves beautiful wedding photos not just couples who have a bigger budgets and that I often give more time and energy to my weddings than I am compensated for. When I initially spoke to the bride she said that the wedding was on top of Mt Greylock which was a 2.5 hour trip from my house. I told her I don’t charge a travel fee for weddings that are 2 hours away or less but since she was on a tight budget and it was only 2.5 I told her I would not charge her because it was close enough. The first I heard of the additional 3 hours of travel time was when I received her paperwork a few weeks before the wedding where she added a note from a Mt Greylock Park Ranger saying that October 7th was the most popular leaf peeping day of the year and that just the trip up the mountain on the approach road could take up to 3 hours, increasing my total travel time for the day to 8 hours. When I asked to address the additional time, the bride agreed that she wanted to make sure I was compensated for my time. My travel fee is half my hourly rate. Ultimately their plans changed and no travel fee was charged. Since the bride was on a tight budget she said she asked a friend to videotape the wedding and I was introduced to an gentleman with a video camera, tripod and lighting. We discussed where he would be and he said to me that I was the paid professional and he would work around me and not to worry about him, he would adjust. I was aware of him and his camera all day and stayed out of his way. I was never introduced to a female videotaping the wedding. In fact, I was confused when the bride said I got in the way of her video because I had stayed away from the gentleman with the video camera. I only figured out that there was a woman filming the wedding when I read the review and the bride referred to the video person as “she”. I went back and looked at my photos and saw that there was an iphone propped on a low table during the wedding that I was not informed of, as well as multiple people holding phone cameras. I had no idea her friend was “officially” videotaping. I was doing my best to stay out of the gentleman’s way. I would have had to know she was there to avoid stepping into her path. I am sorry the video has some frames with me on camera but I had no idea that one of the numerous people holding a camera phone was the one to avoid and I certainly was not being malicious. I was just trying to do the best job I could. Also, at no point did anyone ask me not to move from my location. During the choreographed dance I needed to shift my position to get both the bride and groom in the photo frame. This is typical for first dance photos. I moved about 4 feet to where I could get a view that included both the bride and groom. I feel that the video issues came from me not knowing who was taking “official video” on a phone in a crowded space where many people were also taking video on phones. There is probably too much detail in my response to this review but I felt as if I needed to let potential clients know that I am not a malicious person who knowingly steps into a wedding video nor am I dishonest with my fees. I went above and beyond by running around in the pouring rain for more than 2 hours for her wedding portraits delivering what the bride agrees are beautiful wedding photographs. I was flexible, friendly, helpful and creative on a difficult work day.
