I wouldn’t give any stars as they are so unprofessional. I understand everyone is short staffed, but they canceled our venue on us 9 months before we’re suppose to be getting married. They were HORRIBLE at letting us know what was was going on, and I had emailed Eric a month or so before he canceled on us asking to check out the venue again so I can figure out how I want to set up and he said “ of course, let me know a time.” The next thing I know I get an email saying they’re not doing any weddings due to the pandemic that EVERYWHERE else is going through too. It was very unprofessional how they went about it all, but don’t worry they gave us a ONE NIGHT jacuzzi room to make it all better. Will never recommend this place to anyone
Heads up! After reaching out to the venue on Facebook, they are not continuing as a wedding venue in 2023.
Superior Shores was everything we had hoped for and more! Beautiful setting on the lake for our ceremony, a large ballroom that is set up perfectly for a bigger group, and many hotel rooms for guests to stay in. The staff was accommodating, and the food was fantastic.
We had our rehearsal dinner in the ballroom Friday and set up the night before. Everything was so organized. I keep saying our wedding was perfect because it truly exceeded our expectations. We are so happy we chose this resort as our venue.
Superior Shores was the perfect place to hold our wedding. We had our ceremony on their beautiful pebble beach and the reception in the huge ballroom. We had a few hiccups as we started planning as the resort changed ownership and the event staff changed around a bit, so there was a little while where I wasn't sure who to talk to. Ana was very helpful though, and as soon as Rebecca started she was excellent. She did a great job communicating, helping us plan, and was there for the rehearsal and wedding day to make sure everything went perfectly. The new ownership also did some beautiful redecorating that aligned perfectly with the "rustic chic" theme we loved.
The venue was also very helpful and accommodating with everything related to COVID. When we needed to reschedule the whole wedding, they helped us and our guests transfer all the deposits and reservations and made a very stressful and difficult decision very easy to do. They were very good with PPE and ensuring that all their staff were safe and professional. They adjusted the normal buffet line process to keep things safer, and helped us add some extra tables outside and make sure the inside tables were very spaced out so everyone could stay at safe distances. They were strict on the mask policy, especially for the dance, which I honestly really appreciated because then I didn't have to worry about enforcing it myself, and I definitely wanted to keep all my guests safe. Even after rescheduling, holding a wedding during COVID was scary for us and they helped us feel at ease that every safety precaution was being taken. And it worked, as everyone who attended stayed healthy.
On a more normal note, the food was also absolutely delicious. I had several guests tell me it was the best wedding meal they'd ever had. We had a lot of family from out of state, so we loved being able to show them the special North Shore options like Wild Rice and Walleye.
We booked this venue very last minute (43 days before our wedding day) after our original venue cancelled due to Covid. Overall we were so happy how the day turned out but that was more because of the fall colors, the weather, our decorations we worked so hard on, and the guests that were able to come. We heard positive reviews on the rooms and grounds. No one really mentioned the food. We thought it was ok.
During the process Rebecca was very responsive and returned our emails and phone calls right away (which we did not experience with a lot of vendors so we were so grateful for this). We did hear "No" a lot to some of our requests or "we are short staff", "we have new management/owners so we are no longer doing that", "we can't because of the all the guests that will be here that weekend for fall colors". The resort was definitely concerned about inconveniencing their other guests that were there for fall colors even though we were also guests of the resort. We do realize that Covid has put a lot of pressure and strain on businesses and I guess they were doing the best they could.
I researched other weddings that had took place there and found out with the new owners they have raised the room rates a good amount, no longer have decorations to rent (other then an arbor), and no longer have heat lamps for the patio area.
One thing in particular that was extremely frustrating was trying to plan a rehearsal dinner. In the end we took our business that night to Clearwater Grille and Event Center which we highly recommend (very flexible and food was excellent).
Really we picked this place 1. because they had our original date open 2. for the great views and the beach ceremony location. With ample time to plan something we probably would have gone somewhere else.
The event staff and wedding coordinator here are all incredible!!😍 they were so so helpful and made sure everything went along smoothly. They even fixed my cake from Sam’s Club when it came tumbling down😂😂 Rebecca Martin is the event coordinator here currently and she is so incredible at her job. I am so so happy we choose this venue because the views were spectacular! I was initially searching for a venue on Lake Superior up the north shore but closer to Duluth and Superior Shores was the cheapest one I came across in my search. The only downside of this venue was the housekeeping staff and front desk, they were having trouble getting people into their rooms on time and cleaning rooms when we were there, but that is my only complaint. This could be because this venue switched owners recently and are still trying to work the kinks out. I would 100% recommend Superior Shores though for your wedding or event! Rebecca and Eric the food and beverage specialist will 100% take care of everything and make sure your event runs smoothly. I am so happy I chose Superior Shores for my wedding!!
This was an absolute dream location for any bride who wants to get married on Lake Superior. Their beach is A MILE long and it is just gorgeous views everywhere you look! Fortunately we had great weather for our day so we were able to have our ceremony on the beach (which is the main reason we chose it)! The ballroom is the perfect setup for a reception and has a great patio and views as well. The food is catered through their restaurant Kamloops and was delicious. Our guests all had a wonderful time and it was so convenient to have everything (ceremony, reception, lodging) all in the same place so people didn't have to drive after the wedding. It was also really nice that they let us into the ballroom starting on Thursday (wedding was on Saturday) so we could do a lot of the setup and decorations ourselves. I was never stressed while planning this, even from 3 hours away, because of how organized they were. I didn't feel like I had to hire a separate wedding coordinator because of how responsive everyone was to my emails. They were all super organized, flexible to last-minute changes, and were overall fun to be around!
I had a horrible experience with the staff at this venue. My fiancé, my family and I all drove nearly 5 hours to tour this place as a potential wedding venue. When we arrived for the tour it was made very clear that they forgot we were coming and were not prepared for our tour. The lady that give us a tour was on the sales team and when she came to greet us in the lobby she only acknowledged me and then walked off to start the tour. She didn’t even bother to meet my fiancé or parents (who keep in mind pay for part of the wedding) I stopped her right away to try and introduce my fiancé and my parents and she completely dismissed me and them. I almost ended the tour right there but since we drove 5 hours to see this place I went along with it. She spent about 10 minutes with us and handed me a folder at the end. I would think that after driving 5 hours she could at least introduce herself to everyone and show some effort. I just wanted to write this review to warn any other brides that are thinking of touring this venue to not expect much from the customer service side of things. I can imagine it only gets worse after they recieve your money.
Superior Shores was a great place to have the wedding. The natural beauty, delicious food, and helpful staff made our day wonderful!
Pretty poor at communication throughout the whole planning process. Would go numerous days without contacting back and then would only answer one question in the email! The food was dry and portions were small. They mentioned multiple times they were short-staffed so I sympathized, but every little detail was extra money including a 17% service fee (that does not include gratuity) and 6% sales tax! It ended up being a successful beautiful ceremony because of the setting and perfect weather. The nice thing is my party was rowdy and loud even after the reception and no one complained or anything.
My husband and I love the north shore so this was the perfect spot for our honeymoon! The resort was beautiful. It was their off season so we got a great deal for the week and the whole floor was so quiet. It was great to go out for the day and come back able to relax in the jacuzzi in our room. The only issue we had was a window being off the track but my husband was able to easily put it back in place and we had no issues afterwards.
If you're booking Superior Shores, I highly recommend a wedding planner. It was hard to communicate with the venue throughout planning. They do not go out of their way to help you at all which is challenging since they have done this many times before and you likely have not! The day of turned out great with the exception of the food being cold (which was disappointing given that is the biggest part of the budget), And the walleye being full of bones. the food was certainly sub-par to when we did our tasting (which they make you pay for, btw). They tend to nickel and dime you ($150 to use their projector for the slideshow!) which is irritating given how much money you are already spending with them. But the beautiful lake is all the decor you need and the day turned out great, many guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
NEVER going Back worst night in our life....
Excellent food!! Great set up for ceremony on the beach and reception. They were helpful and accommodating with everything. Easy to talk with.
I really enjoyed this site. We were suppose to have our ceremony outdoors, however the weather did not hold and we had to move it inside. Even though we chose this sight specifically for the outdoor ceremony, the staff was really great and continue to work with us to make sure everything was perfect. The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Rooms were reasonably priced and gorgeous. If you are looking for a rustic theme/Minnesota style wedding this is the perfect spot!
Superior Shores was the perfect place for my outdoor wedding! The staff was awesome and very helpful. They went above and beyond what we expected by purchasing colored napkins for us free of charge (they changed napkins and no long have colored for free). It was a cold afternoon the day of our wedding and they had hot coco and coffee ready after our ceremony, also free of charge. The food was excellent! I would highly recommend Superior Shores!
Superior Shores was an absolutely beautiful place to get married! Getting this breathtaking scenery did come with a price, however. We ended up having an amazing day (and weekend), but did have to deal with a nightmare of a wedding coordinator. She was very difficult to communicate with so it caused undue stress in the weeks leading up to our big day. When we got to the resort she seemed far too involved for a coordinator. Many of our guests had complaints about her rude behavior, which was kind of a bummer.
Definitely worth having the ceremony and reception all at one location. They have a wedding coordinator on staff that makes sure everything is set for your wedding. The view was fabulous and the food was delicious as well. If you are looking for a destination wedding along the North Shore, I would definitely recommend Superior Shores Resort!
We had our ceremony on the beach which was a BEAUTIFUL back drop! We had an archway setup which did cost extra, as well as having chairs set up on the beach also. But it was more than worth it! The weather was thankfully perfect!! The beach is very sandy though so there is no way that heels would work. Then we had our reception in their hall. It can accomodate up to 250 people, and Nancy, the coordinator, was AMAZING! She made sure everything ran perfectly and had wonderful ideas for the cake table, etc... The food was WONDERFUL and we had nothing but compliments! I will definitely be going back for our anniversarys and maybe even a vow renewal in 10 years! :) I highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a "get away" wedding!!
Absolutely beautiful setting! Nancy did everything she could to make the day go smoothly! The wait staff were great and very friendly. The only "complaint" I have I guess is that they charge extra for so many things, including chair set up at the beach. Other than that small thing though I am very happy we chose this for the site of our wedding!
We went to Superior Shores as our mini honeymoon right after the wedding. This place is very nice and the package we got was reasonably prices. It was very relaxing and peaceful after a stressful planning time.
Ryan and his staff did a wonderful job helping us plan our wedding from a distance. He was quick to answer all of my questions and the day of he was ready to go! The food was fantastic!!! All of our guests raved about it! What a beautiful location to get married at, we loved every minute of it!
Communication was average in beginning, got better as date came closer. High costs for food, alcohol, chair set up, arch rental. Main 'wedding planner' was great during ceremony/reception...got done whatever we asked, checked in frequently. They took the food down too soon, should have asked us first. Food tasted good. Front desk/check-in staff were not as friendly as they could have been. There were issues with guests being able to check in on time, many had to wait for 1/2 hour to an hour after 'guaranteed' check-in time. Some guests didn't receive clean towels or refills of coffee after rooms were cleaned. Room were a bit on the high side as far as price. Cleaned well and most were updated.
This was my dream venue....beautiful Lake Superior Beach for our ceremony, large lawn for the social hour, attentive staff, AMAZING FOOD, etc. If you can get over the mauve in the banquet room, you will not be disappointed!! :)
We had 3 different rooms the first night due to lack of AC, but the staff was very accomodating and helpful, we were just tired. The resort was beautiful, but we did not use all the ammenities cuz we were so busy sightseeing.
Very accomodating to all needs, and really made my fairytale wedding come true:)
It was outdoors on Lake Superior. Alot of my guests have never been up that far north.
Plenty of space, Enjoy the beach and lake all night long, Helpful in every portion of the day;Even though you may get the room for the whole weekend, don't assume you will be the only wedding at the resort on that day.
Superior Shores resort is located about 1 mile north of Two Harbors, right on the shore of Lake Superior. The ballroom has a wall of windows and doors facing the lake and a wonderful patio. The staff at Superior Shores is absolutly wonderful as are the accomodations.
