Jason and I booked the Surfsand as we wanted a beach wedding. We had a great day, despite the rain. We had to hold the ceremony under the tent at Haystack Gardens because of the rain. But the staff did an incredible job of setting up the ceremony space. All of the staff bent over backwards to ensure it was perfect, especially Hudson, who had to fill in as the event coordinator Sarah was unexpectedly sick. I had heard that the power went out due to the rain and the team scrambled to get it back going before the ceremony. I so appreciated all of the effort the team made the day of and for the Rehearsal Dinner.
We had 40 people attend our wedding and it was perfectly manageable at Haystack Gardens. There was enough space where everyone was comfortable, bathrooms etc. The food and drinks were incredible. We chose the call brand spirits and the garden salad, clam chowder, beef tenderloin and salmon for dinner.
My few critiques or items I wish I could have changed:
1. The dinner was delayed in coming out, so the dancing/Photobooth was cut short. We moved up the toasts so the guests would not notice as much. But I wish we had more time for dancing.
2. The communication leading up to the event was sometimes delayed over email. I would have to send frequent email reminders for a response to my questions. But they were always answered.
3. Up until the event, I was confused on the drink pricing. Apparently there was a $30 per person 'deposit' that we paid when we signed the contract, and if guests went over that, we would pay the difference later, which is fine, but I either missed the fine print on this or it wasn't clear.
4. Cannon Beach has a noise ordinance so all music has to be done by 9pm. So if you are looking for a later event this may not be your venue. We were supposed to have a bonfire on the beach after to continue the party, but it was raining so that did not happen. There are limited options for bars in Cannon Beach to continue partying.
Overall we were very happy with the wedding and venue!

From the very first time I set foot at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach, I knew it was where I wanted to get married. (This is not an exaggeration - I grew up on the East Coast and my first trip to Cannon Beach was a few years ago with my now-husband!)
The Surfsand was an amazing place for our wedding. We appreciate both of the coordinators we worked with at the Surfsand. There were some wrenches and last minute changes thrown in, but they really took everything in stride - even when I was having some freakout moments - so I cannot thank the staff enough for their professionalism and flexibility.
Like many other couples, we had to reschedule our wedding due to COVID - we appreciated how easy it was to coordinate this with the Surfsand staff.
It seemed like everything came together for our wedding - we were able to obtain a beach permit (Cannon Beach wasn't issuing these out due to COVID for a while) and we had beautiful weather. We will forever come back to stay at the Surfsand and remember that perfect day.

I wrote a detailed review I would be happy to share, but unfortunately Wedding Wire's character limit cut it off. Here are the high points: we dealt with 4 different coordinators in the 10 months we planned our wedding, and were never told when our point person was changing. Information was constantly lost, as we were asked for things such as our floorplan and timeline multiple times, and sometimes we waited over a month for responses to emails. One person would approve something, then someone else would tell us it wasn't possible. Mistakes were made repeatedly in emails, on the phone, and in person despite multiple corrections. Our final event order had 12 errors in it that I counted and it took 3 or 4 drafts to fix it.
The biggest issue: two weeks before the wedding we got the final event order with thousands of dollars of charges that were not in our contract, plus changes to allowed decor items and numerous errors. It took many hours of both ours and our planner's time to get them to honor our contract and added a huge amount of stress. When we went to our bonfire, there were 8 bonfires and no way to tell which was ours. When we finally found it (no staff around), it was unlit. One of my guests had to find a tiki torch and light it himself.
The first time I posted this review on another site, I listed the food and catering as a positive. I have since discovered from multiple guests that one of the two entree options ran out with two tables left to go to the buffet, leaving no vegetarian option for guests. I only had 14 tables including our table for two.
Even worse, the dietary restriction meals I had requested (which were approved) were not given out. I had guests with allergies to gluten, dairy, and peanuts who even asked the staff for their plates, and were told there was nothing for them. So several of my guests could not eat anything. I reached out to the chef at the Wayfarer regarding this issue after my wedding to let him know, and never even got a response.
There is much more I wish I had room to share, but although there were some positives (gorgeous garden space, staff on the resort side was awesome), we had a very negative experience and this venue added a ton of stress for us. I would not recommend it.

I had my wedding reception in the gardens the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach, and the staff was great! They were quick to respond to my questions and attentive to my guests. They even made a special plate of food for one of my guests that had dietary restrictions, and it came out beautifully! I would recommend this place for anyone looking to get married in Cannon Beach, OR!

Let me start off by saying that our wedding day was amazing and I can't imagine having done it anywhere else. We LOVE the Oregon Coast, and the Surfsand Resort is beautiful. If you want to have a beachside wedding in Oregon, this venue can't be beat.
However, don't count on the Surfsand's onsite wedding coordinator to take care of everything for you (or even be that big of a help). For someone who has worked there for a long time, I was surprised how little she had to offer in the way of suggestions for other vendors and even basic questions seemed difficult for her to answer. The weekend of the wedding, the entire staff was incredible (including the wedding coordinator), but I had many moments of frustration leading up to the wedding due to her disorganization and lack of basic knowledge about the venue/area.
Again, I wouldn't have done it anywhere else, but I wish I had known in advance how much work I'd have to do because the onsite coordinator wasn't very helpful.

My husband and I got married at the Haystack Gardens at the Surfsand this past June. The gardens were beautiful, it was early June so not everything was in full bloom but it was still LOVELY! Well manicured grass/flowers/trees ... picture perfect. All of the staff(minus one exception below) were very helpful and nice!
The Wayfarer a restaurant next to Surfsand does all of the catering. It was a little pricey but it was worth it! The food was very good and tasted just like the tasting (this does not happen often in my experience -- going from two plates to a large party usually changes the quality at least some). The chef was very professional and recommended what would be fresh/in season. We did have a few food allergies (including gluten) that he worked around great! We had the prime rib and the halibut, both were great but the Halibut Steverino was AMAZING, highly recommend it! We and all of our guests were very happy with how everything tasted!
A very fun option they do have and I strongly recommend is doing a bonfire on the beach. We had a destination wedding and used this as our Rehearsal Dinner/get together with everyone we invited to our wedding. For a decent price (around $100-150) we had 60 chairs set up and the bonfire started & extra wood, coolers, roasting sticks, and blankets were all provided!
My one complaint is the wedding planner/catering manager is fairly rude and is not very helpful! Our wedding was a destination wedding so I had questions on what to do around the area/if it rained on the bonfire night, etc ... pretty basic questions and she acted as if I was such an inconvenience and did not provide the help. I had a few things go wrong that were not my fault and she was little to no help. First off, she pushed using their pastry chef, who ended up being really good! But she was fired less than 2 weeks prior to my wedding. Terri did call right when she found out but just told me without providing me with any help on who to call as a replacement. (Eventually after talking to the surfsand manager they did pay for the extra cost of the new cake but it was not nearly as good and we did not have time to do a tasting). The second is make sure you go through your final paperwork with a fine tooth comb! There were important details that were wrong (our food choice being one big one!).
But overall it is a beautiful place to get married and our guests and my husband and I really enjoyed the venue!

I have been here on multiple vacations and the rooms are luxurious and beautiful. It is located right on the beach and within walking distance of the town. They also provide you with a list of activities that happen at the hotel and around town so you know what's happening at the time you are staying.

The service was not great... they said one thing and then after the wedding was over said another. Also said they would serve the cake, which we thought meant actually serving it to each guest, but they only placed in on the table so guests had to come get it themselves. The room, however, was beautiful and the food was really good.

Surfsand is a great place if you are planning a beach wedding, I highly recommend using them as your venue. When we spoke with them on our first vist they were very open and showed many possibilities. There are 2 big reasons we picked Surfsand. They are prepared for bad weather! They have many coastal properties and other towns will alets of a storm coming in. The cost for your reception room includes all dishes, chairs and linens. We didn't have to worry or think about rentals. The only dissapointment we had was with our rehearsal bonfire the resort put on for us. They put out chairs, balnkets, roasting sticks, and started the fire. They did not inform us that extra bundles of wood come at an additional cost. Other than that communication was great, food was amazing and it was our perfect day at the beach!

I couldn't put into words how great the staff made me and my husband feel about our big day. Any questions or concerns Molly and Terri were incredibly kind and there for us when we needed them. We were very pleased with everything, and with our small budget...everything was perfect!

My husband and I had the Surfsand do both our ceremony and reception. The ceremony was on the beach and our reception was at the Haystack Gardens. The whole day was perfect. The staff and our party planner, Terri, were extremely helpful and professional.
The food was amazing (people are still talking about the polenta!) and the reception area was more beautiful than I could have imagined.

We had a perfect wedding weekend at the Surfsand. The events manager was helpful and very nice. The ceremony location on the beach was perfect. Haystack Gardens was a beautiful spot for the reception. The catering manager we dealt with the day of was wonderful and organized! Food and bartender were great Overall, we were very pleased. The only two small negatives: they seemed to have forgotten to set up the chairs for the ceremony. (My husband ended up tracking someone down 30 minutes before go time, and the chairs were finally set up and ready to go 10 minutes before ceremony time.) The only other drawback was that there were 3 weddings at the Resort that weekend and sometimes I felt a little bit of "which bride are you again?" I realize they were near the end of a busy wedding season, but you want to feel like your day is unique and special. Again, overall, we were very pleased.
