I don't know about you, but neither my husband nor I really enjoy party planning. We value people that can break it down for us so we know the best places to go with the greatest value. Surly makes it so easy to get just that. My husband was actually on deployment while we planned our event. Katie Killian and the Surly staff made it so easy for me to get things organized and checked off my to-do list. I didn't need to bother with finding really anything on my own because they already have a list of preferred vendors. This was a godsend since I was already so stressed with my husband not being around. Truly, the ENITRE staff does an excellent job for you so that you can do what's important, enjoy your special day! I'd recommend Surly to anyone looking to have a fun, laid back wedding experience. I wouldn't have done it any different. Thank you Katie and Surly!

We threw a party celebrating our marriage on August 3rd, and had a great experience. Katie was fantastic (very responsive) and made the process smooth and worry free for both of us. She never pressured us and kept us close to our budget and on top of our deadlines. A lot of guests commented on how great the food was, and of course the beer too! My wife and I would definitely recommend Surly!

The most perfect day! After searching high and low for the perfect, sort of unconventional reception spot in the Twin Cities area, we stumbled upon Surly. We have been many times and love the entire brewery! We really wanted to have our reception outdoors and after speaking with Alysha, we were able to secure the outdoor festival field area for our private event/reception. Surly provided the food, drinks and dessert; all of which were beyond wonderful. The outdoor space gives you the option to choose from three food trucks (LOVE!), and we chose the BBQ truck. We decided to serve strawberry shortcake canapés instead of a cake for the guests, but last minute I decided that I wanted a Bride & Groom cake as well which Surly was happy to help us with! Alysha was responsive and answered all the questions I thought of over the nine months leading up to the wedding. She was super sweet and helpful day of, even offering to help with some of the table decor set up since we didn't have an official wedding planner to take care of it. During the reception, all the staff were helpful and kind and went above and beyond to make our day wonderful. Can't recommend Surly enough!

When we first looked at Surly for our wedding, the reviews sounded great. Katie was charming and promised Surly would bend over backwards for our special day. We quickly paid $1000 to secure our reservation. We took off work to attend a tasting at 4:30 on a Friday. We were disappointed that the event was more of a corporate thing with small bites and a bunch of expensive items we weren’t considering. Katie knew we were thinking plated dinners, so we were shocked we couldn't taste them. Surly had 3 of 8 plated options on display only. The plates were very skimpy- the $42 ribs had 2 small bones and it was the best looking option. We were upset and said as much on a feedback card. Katie contacted us after the event and after going back and forth, finally agreed to do a private tasting. After the 2nd tasting, we decided the a la carte sides and carving stations were a better value. We wanted sweet tea for our guests that don’t drink alcohol. Surly offered to provide unsweet tea for $40 a gallon. Surly tea somehow costs more than a gallon of Surly beer. We wanted to bring in chairs through a vendor. Katie told us we could have them delivered Friday, but told the chair company they could only be dropped off Saturday. Again, we had to advocate for ourselves to get what we were originally promised. The day of the wedding we had trouble with security staff. My wife got to Surly just before the ceremony. Security tried to stop her & bridal party from entering without showing their ids. Security was very rude, acted like they had no idea a wedding was taking place, and delayed their entering significantly. Later my wife’s brother went to check on our getaway car. The security watched him walk out, and then wouldn’t let him reenter without showing his id. He was in a hurry to let us know we could leave and security wanted to mark his hand. He just gave them his id. Not 10 mins later he came back to get his id and the same guy acted like he had no idea who he was and demanded his full name and DOB so he could id him. He did, and the guy pulled his id out of his pocket without even looking at it. I get this is a venue that serves alcohol and has to be careful, but they were profoundly unprofessional. Surly offers to change the brew tank lights for you, but the day of the wedding, the lights were broken and couldn’t be changed. It costs extra to use their projector screen, which we didn’t want or need. We let Katie know we wouldn’t need the screen months in advance, but the screen was down during the entire ceremony. My MIL tried to get Surly to put the screen up before the ceremony. Katie told her not to worry about it, but she never fixed it. Katie later told us it was broken after we complained during our reception. After this we never saw Katie again. The screen was up during the reception, but somehow broken during the ceremony? It’s really confusing why the screen was down at all- it was up during our rehearsal/final walk through the day before. Surly, esp Katie, never ceased to amaze me with their ineptitude. I don’t know if she is stupid or just really didn’t care/like us. She would smile, say ok, and never deliver. A lot was easy to brush off, but we are devastated that all of the pictures from our ceremony are ruined by the screen. Every time I look at pictures from the best day of our life, all I can see is the screen in every picture. If you really want your event there, make sure you ask lots of questions before you spend the money.

We were beyond happy to have had our wedding reception here July 2019. many guests said it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had! We wanted a brewery feel for our reception and obviously surly delivered on that front! Staff was totally on top of everything making it a great experience. Responsive and friendly. The pretzel crusted walleye and beef stroganoff were amazing. Our cake was fantastic. Katie was our surly contact person and paid attention to every detail and anything we had in mind for our day. Great place to get food, beverages, linens, dessert all in one place. And not be disappointed! Fantastic atmosphere- it was an excellent experience here!! Couldn’t recommend it enough.

TLDR: We got married this past weekend at Surly, and I cannot recommend them highly enough, on all aspects from service to venue to F&B. First and foremost, I want to say how amazing the Event Coordinator, Alysha, was to work with throughout the entire process. She is prompt, pleasant, and professional, and so thorough while still making it feel easy! Her colleague, Kate, was also so on top of everything for the day-of management, as were all the servers/bartenders. Everything was consistently replenished, used plates & glasses cleared almost instantly. It was really impressive. Even though people think of Surly as 'just a brewery', we got endless compliments on the food (thank you Chef!). I cannot emphasize enough how much more delicious it was than the usual boring banquet food that you find at many event spaces. The beer, of course, was wonderful, but even for those who were not "beer people", they provided several options to make them feel like they still had some great choices! The venue is so cool and unique, and although we haven't gotten all our photos back yet, the sneak peeks we've seen have proven Surly to have GORGEOUS backdrops. If I had to think of a critique, I legitimately don't think I could come up with one. If you are considering Surly, I assure you that you will not regret it.

We Totally recommend Surly Brewery for a wedding! Alysha (our event planner) and the Surly staff did a wonderful job of making sure every detail was perfect for our wedding. Even tiny details from making sure there was film in the Polaroid, making sure everyone was in the right place at the right time, to making sure doors were opened for food at the right time, to . We had raving comments from guests about the relaxed vibe at Surly, and how it's such a neat space for a wedding. We also are still hearing comments on how amazing the food was. People couldn't decide if the Carrots, the Beef Stroganoff, or the Walley was their favorite! Since we're from out of town, I especially appreciated that the Surly staff was able to set up and tear down for an extra fee. It was such a relief to know everything would be set up before our family even arrived at Surly and know that they didn't have to stay late cleaning up. Surly made the day easy, and that's SO appreciated when planning such a big event. If you like beer and a low key, but awesome atmosphere - we 100% recommend Surly. They're amazing.

My spouse and I got married at a small dinner in Seattle. Since the wedding was small, we wanted to have a bigger celebration/reception in Minnesota for my extended family and friends in the area. (I grew up in Minnesota and my parents still live there.) It's tough planning an event from 1500 miles away, but Katie and the team at Surly's could not have made it easier. Everything was easy to plan in advance. The pricing and options were all really transparent. Katie was helpful over the phone and on email--really responsive and informative. And then, the day of the event, everything was just right. We booked a tent outside, with some picnic tables, lawn games, a bar, and some space in the sun as well for about 90 people. It was such a great time for adults of all ages and kids. The kids played around outside. Adults could sit under the tent if they needed shade. The food (from the BBQ option of the food truck) was a hit with everyone! (And the mini key lime pies were a huge hit as well.) The day-of coordination from Katie and her team could not have been better. Since we don't live in the area, we didn't get a chance to check out the setup or meet before the day. But when we arrived, everything looked perfect and was ready to go. They had an A/V system set up. We were able to play our playlist from Spotify through the speakers. The bar was fully stocked and ready to go. And it was a hot day, so the folks did a great job of keeping the water jug refilled for everyone. Anyway, if you're looking for a venue that guarantees a good time will be had by all, in a nice casual outdoor setting, I fully recommend getting a tent outside and a food truck from Surly's. My whole family had a great time. Thanks Katie and the entire Surly's team!

My wife and I had our reception at Surly Brewing. We were so pleased with how easy Alysha made the planning process! We used all areas available to us from Scheid Hall to the courtyard. We chose to do light appetizers followed by cake then an hour long pizza buffet later in the night. Drink tickets were used as well as cash bar. The amount of hands on service for the price is absolutely outstanding. Zach helped us the night of to run our Spotify playlist and our slideshow ourselves so we could cut some costs and it worked out perfectly! We love Surly and will continue come back! Cheers

There are not enough nice things I can say about our wedding at Surly! Everyone tells you how stressful wedding planning is going to be... but not with Surly. Taylor and Katie took care of everything. My husband and I were in graduate school while planning the wedding so we didn't always have the time to dedicate to planning all the tiny details. That's where Taylor came in. She was quick to respond by email, to ask questions about our hopes for the day, and to soothe any fears we had. We communicated almost entirely over email but when we needed to meet in person, Taylor and Katie were happy to invite us to Surly to have a beer and help us tie up all those loose ends. We dropped off our centerpieces on Friday and then enjoyed an amazing brewery tour with our wedding party. When we arrived on the day of our wedding, everything was literally perfect... every flower in the centerpiece, every chair in the beer garden, every string light in the hall. We were immediately introduced to our banquet manager who was in communication with us the entire night. It was low stress for everyone involved! We spent the weeks after our wedding getting rave reviews about the food - we chose appetizers, a buffet meal, and a cake dessert. Surly also worked with to feed our vegan friends a hearty meal and provide food/beer options for our Gluten Free loved ones. We also got rave reviews from family members who weren't familiar with craft beer. They said the staff took ample time to explain their options, provide them with samples, and really help them find a beer they would enjoy. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better wedding experience. Our day was perfect! Surly gave us the opportunity to party all night with our friends, family, and loved ones and celebrate our wedding day in a style that was truly our own.

Our wedding at Surly was incredible! My husband and I can't talk them up enough and two months later everyone is still talking about how awesome the venue was! People who couldn't make it were definitely disappointed. From start to finish, Katie, the event coordinator, was super easy to work with. She was communicative, friendly, kind, supportive, and answered all of our questions - even if we asked more than once! We were able to do nearly everything through Surly, which was also super helpful. I appreciated only needing a few vendors for our event and Katie coordinated with any vendors we did have (honestly, we only needed flowers, a photo booth, and a photographer!). Katie and her amazing team took care of everything. We had our ceremony overlooking the brewing area, which turned out amazing in photos, and then had time in the private bar area and deck to hang out for a yummy cocktail hour while they flipped the main room. Then dinner and dancing! We went with the German dinner and it. was. incredible!! Lots of compliments on the food from guests! And of course the beer was fantastic. Even our guests who "don't like" beer were happy (the bartenders are the absolute best) and there were Surly made soda options for our non-alcohol drinking loved ones. The for events only beer cocktails just added to the fun! Katie and her team put all of our table decorations and photos and everything exactly where we wanted them and everything looked perfect. My mom was on point for the bar tab and she can't stop mentioning how impressed she was with how they kept her up to date all night and were wonderfully professional and kind. Surly is a beautiful space with wonderful staff, incredible food, and amazing beer. My only regret is not eating more cookies! Did I mention Surly was also one of the most affordable options we found in the Twin Cities area? Surly was the perfect unique venue for our wedding (and the wedding package includes a brewery tour for your wedding party!).

Best. Reception. Venue. EVER!!!!!! Surly far exceeded our expectations and we would not have changed a single thing. Katie, the event coordinator, is the most amazing person and handles absolutely every detail. The food was incredible and of course the drinks were awesome. It's been over a month since our wedding and our guests are still talking about how amazing Surly was and how much fun they had. Do yourself a favor and look into it now, you won't be disappointed.

We had the best experience with our wedding at Surly! Katie, their wedding coordinator, was extremely organized and helpful. She responded to all my questions quickly and did a fabulous job organizing all the vendors and details on our big day. We did a few things differently than Surly generally does for weddings (ceremony in-the-round, rented linens) and they were extremely flexible and helpful. Our guests told us repeatedly how amazing the food was at dinner. Everyone was full and we had extra late night snacks, which never happens at a wedding! I would highly recommend doing your wedding at Surly!

As beer lovers, we selected Surly as the obvious choice for our easy-going, 80-ish guest wedding. We wanted a venue that checked many boxes, and Surly fit that bill and so much more. Surly provided us with access to their top-notch event coordinators who not only helped with the planning and preparation, but also with the day-of coordination (in addition to our third-party day-of coordinator). Andrea and her crew were accessible and easy-going; we appreciated having multiple folks helping us out. We were lucky to be married in the old Brewer's Table space, with our reception in Scheid Hall, and couldn't have been more pleased with how that arrangement worked out. In addition to the space, we also (obviously) worked with them on our tables, chairs, linens, cake, food and drinks. Their catering staff is seriously the BEST! Having attended numerous events in Scheid Hall, both my husband and I felt confident that the day of our wedding would go off without a hitch -- and it did! Many guests commented that the steak at our wedding was the best they've ever had (beyond RAVE reviews for the food). And the one professional baker in our crowd had no idea that the cake was entirely dairy free!

Our guests had nothing but compliments for the venue and food. We chose to do a light dinner and then offer appetizers for late night snacks, and this was a hit with guests. The brewery tour that came with our rehearsal was super fun. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my husband and I would have appreciated more timely communication and response to emails with the event team. But staff was nothing less than impressive the day of.

My wife & I got married at Surly Brewing Co. on May 28th of 2016. We chose this venue for a lot of different reasons but mainly because we wanted to have our wedding at a warm, inviting, and memorable place. We first experienced the brewery in early 2015 and immediately knew we wanted to get married there. A few months later we put down a deposit and started working closely with Andrea Graham, Surly's Events Director. She helped us coordinate everything from music, to wedding-day agendas, to decorations, etc. She and her team were very accommodating during the planning process (easily the coolest food-tasting you'll ever do) and were truly exceptional the day of our wedding. The beer (obviously), beer cocktails, and food were top-notch. The service was warm & friendly. But most importantly, not a day goes by where we aren't somehow reminded by friends or family just how awesome our wedding was. My wife & I wanted our 'big party' to be memorable and that was only possible with the help of Surly, Andrea, and her team. If you want your wedding to be hassle-free, a blast, and extremely cost-efficient, do not hesitate to pick Surly for your wedding. Plus, an added bonus is that you will get to revisit your wedding spot over and over and over again!
