Brides beware! Overall, they overpromise and then underdeliver for your day. The only reason for the 1 star is because their chef is great. The process went smoothly leading up to the event, then we felt like we got swindled. Note: we selected a package that included the champagne toast, seated 3 course meal, plus late-night snacks and desserts passed around. They were so short staffed on our wedding day, that it turned into a disaster. Even at one point in the night, they closed the bar (that we paid for) because they didn’t have enough people to both serve and attend the bar. Total nightmare so avoid if you can!
As the owner of Splashes of Time Photography (splashesoftime.com) I must say I love photographing weddings at Swallows Eve. The venue is beautiful and their team is amazing. So many great photo locations. I highly recommend!
Swallows Eve was a wonderful wedding venue and this group created a magical wedding weekend for us! Our wedding party all stayed at the Winchester Lodge, family members stayed at Evers House, & then we had guests stay at the Herb Garden. All of these lodging facilities were amazing and worked well with us to coordinate all of our guests. It was wonderful to have our wedding party all staying together and able to spend more time together at the Winchester. We hosted a bridal spa morning at the Spa at the Herb Garden and this was absolutely amazing. The staff there were wonderful to work with. We then had a bridal luncheon at the Herb Garden which also allowed for quality time with my bridesmaids and our families. Our rehearsal dinner was at the Herb Garden and this was a wonderful evening. We had the restaurant to ourselves and everyone had a lovely time. Our wedding ceremony & reception at Swallows Eve was equally magical. The staff there have bee a delight to work with. Catherine is truly the glue that holds everything together and helps create a magical and truly one of a kind day for you. I can't say enough good things about Catherine and all of the wonderful staff at Swallows Eve. Their ability to provide so many things for your wedding makes it incredibly easy to plan an out of town wedding. I highly recommend using them to make your wedding weekend one of a kind. I had so many friends/family compliment our wedding saying it was the best wedding they have been to and one that was even better than their own. They loved every aspect about the weekend we planned and I know Swallows Eve and their team played an instrumental role in this!
My son's wedding took place at this venue last weekend.
The venue is absolutely beautiful! There are several options/areas to have your wedding ceremony. We had the plated dinner and the food was good. The bartenders and wait staff were helpful and very nice. Things to consider if you are inquiring to book........
bridal and groom suites are a tad small; there is not a frig in the bridal suite and no place to keep drinks/snacks while you are there all day getting ready; limited hooks to hang dresses/tux etc and hooks are very close together so items overlap, they are also not high enough to hang the bridal gown so it drags the floor.
The entire inside of the main building is wood, which is gorgeous; however, it gives off a yellow hue; and the lighting is not bright; so make sure your photograph is aware. My son and daughter in law met with their first wedding planner from this venue last Dec and everything seemed it would be perfect. By the end, they had dealt with 3 planners, with no notice that they were being reassigned. When it was getting close to wedding time, they went a few weeks with no response to crucial emails because their planner was no longer there. A very sweet lady, Summer, was the planner for the last couple of weeks and was very responsive; also helpful the day of the wedding. We were also told in the very beginning, we would have the opportunity for a rehearsal the Friday prior to the Saturday wedding. A week to 10 days before the wedding, we were notified by Summer that if we had a rehearsal on Friday, it would need to be held and completed by noon.....because they had booked another wedding for Friday. With basically no notice, the majority of the wedding party was not able to be there by that time. However, we were told that we could go ahead and drop off all the decorations at that time. We arrived around 10:30am on Fri and were met outside by a lady named Katherine. I will just say if you are scheduled to have a first meeting with Katherine as your wedding planner......don't go! She is one of the most unpleasant people we have ever encountered. Abrasive, rude, abrupt, no eye contact and texting on her phone the entire time she's telling us we need to leave! She would not let us speak long enough and kept interrupting when trying to explain to her we had been told by Summer that we could take the few minutes to bring decorations. By little things we were told and overheard, I am assuming the employee turn over rate is very high.
So, to sum up the review....despite this being a beautiful venue, I personally would not book here again.
We could not have picked a better venue than Swallows Eve! Everything is absolutely gorgeous there and required little additional decoration. It is also very close to downtown Fredericksburg and was so easy to get to and have guests get ubers after the wedding. The getting ready suite was perfect and the fireplace was the perfect ceremony spot!! Any questions I had were answered very quickly and there were no surprise charges.
Great wedding venue. Very clean and beyond gorgeous out there. Highly recommend for weddings!
Beautiful venue inside and out. Very friendly owners. They kept my deposit to use when I rescheduled my wedding due to COVID. I had to provide the glassware but I would still hold another event there.
I got married here last weekend and it was absolutely perfect! We downsized to about 50 people because of COVID and I was worried it would look empty, but that wasn't the case at all. Their 10 foot farm tables fit perfectly with my rustic theme. It rained and we're were able to move the ceremony inside without any trouble. Beautiful grounds for photos!
The Barn at Swallows Eve was perfect!! My husband and i got married in the new outdoor chapel and everything turned out perfect! Marisa was awesome and always on top of things, the manager was great and answered any questions we had. If you’re considering getting married out in the Hill Country area- look no more! It was the best venue and a brides dream come true!
We had a wedding at this gorgeous venue this past weekend, our daughter got married there and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. The week before our daughters wedding one of my closest friends passed away and her funeral was on my daughter’s wedding day. I called and spoke with the owner , asking if we could get in the day before, relieving me of a lot of stress for the big day. They were very accommodating. I also want to say a big thank you to Irene , one of there employees, she was the best, couldn’t have done it without her. I highly recommend this venue. It was a perfect day. Linda Guin
I'll start off by saying that this venue is absolutely gorgeous. The barn is open and airy, and the outdoor patio is just beautiful for a hill country wedding. It was everything we wanted for our wedding, which is why we chose to book here in the first place. Another big plus was that they were allowing customers to bring in outside planners, vendors, and alcohol, which was great for our budget. Although our wedding turned out perfectly (thanks to our many other vendors), the planning process was made stressful and frustrating by the owner of this facility (Danielle). I will say, however, that their property manager (Erin) is fantastic and helped us navigate many issues we ran into along the way.
We booked with this venue in Spring 2018, before it had even formally opened. At the time, we were able to snag a great deal on the rental fee and were promised multiple other amenities by the time they opened - which was over a year before our wedding was supposed to take place. We were told by Danielle, the owner, that there would be additional decor tables, a mobile bar, glassware, an ice machine, and possibly even a full kitchen by the time our wedding took place. When we spoke with her in person, we were guaranteed the use of these items as part of our rental fee. Fast forward one year, and none of these promises had been fulfilled. They finally agreed to allow us use of the glassware that we were promised, but only at the expense of washing them ourselves (thank you to our wedding planner!) since they had not yet installed their dishwasher. I will say, that the mobile bar was completed *the week of* of our wedding, so at least we got to use that.
We had another very frustrating situation about 6 months prior to the wedding, when the venue sent out an email stating that they had hired a catering and bartending company that all clients would be REQUIRED to use, even if they had already booked with another company. I was floored. We had already paid our deposit, done a tasting, and picked out our menu! On top of that, their new catering company did not fit within our budget. After many, many emails and phone calls with Danielle, Erin, and the new catering/bartending company, they finally withdrew this ridiculous imposition and allowed us to go back to our original caterer. Again, it all worked out in the end, but only after much headache and wasted time.
All in all, I think this venue has the potential to be truly wonderful but I would not recommend them at this point in time. Everything about their business has been rushed, disorganized, and simply not well thought out prior to taking action. Their empty promises and failure to work with clients, rather than against them, made the wedding planning process much more difficult than it needed to be. I could go on and on, but hopefully this provided enough examples. We would have pulled out of our contract and forgone our deposit long ago had it not been for Erin, the property manager, constantly communicating with us and advocating to help make our wedding a success.
I truly hope that they take these reviews into consideration when working with future clients.
We booked with Danielle while the barn was still under construction but close to completion. We were told a lot of promises at that initial walk through, as well as another one we did with her about a month or two later, after booking. That included a mobile bar being built (which has now been done but was not done for our wedding), the addition of two new ceremony sites, the ability to bring in our own alcohol & vendors, a TV outside on the patio, and a switch in the type of sliding doors leading to the back patio, among a few other things. While the barn itself is beautiful and the location in Fredericksburg is wonderful, how the barn is being ran should be a major red flag for all perspective couples. Not only did we not get some of the things we were told would be done, but we had even more things that came up that we had to deal with. Our ceremony site (the open-air chapel structure) was an idea Danielle and I had worked up together the summer before our wedding. I was originally told it would be completed in October, which then became December, which then became the “beginning of the year,” which then led to an “anticipated date of march” until ultimately it was complete(ish) about 1 week before our wedding. We didn’t have a walkway to the site – which technically wasn’t promised but should have been a given – had the remains of a burn pile (aka a patch of dirt) directly behind our ceremony site, did not have an even surface where the chairs were (so our guests in the back couldn’t see) and didn’t even have a sign with the name of the barn on the gates. Furthermore, I received an email on January 1st, 2019, alerting me to the fact that they had decided to start a catering company and get their TABC license so I would need to buy all of the alcohol through them and cancel my bartenders. Neither of these were things I was willing to do, so we had a meeting for a workaround. In the end, they didn’t even have their license by our wedding. Then, on March 19th, less than a month before our wedding, I found out they added a single wide mobile home directly next to the barn the day before, for their “new kitchen.” As of our wedding, it still had not been skirted and was sitting on cinderblocks, even though I was told it would be skirted & landscaped before our wedding. Finally, I found out that absolutely no cars could be left on property overnight. Unfortunately, I found this out post wedding from a guest who left in the middle of the reception to move her car because a security guard happened to hear her plan of getting her vehicle the next morning and informed her that she couldn’t. This is not anywhere in our contract, but it’s important to be aware of if you’re planning on serving alcohol. I won’t pretend that everything was bad with our wedding and that the barn isn’t beautiful, but there are so many issues that add so much unnecessary stress and changes. This wedding venue has so much potential, but unless it gets managed better and has an owner who can follow through with plans and focus on one project at a time, I think the issues will just keep happening. Danielle is a sweet human and I think she does care about her couples, and she has a great vision in mind, but the (lack of) execution and professionalism leave a lot to be desired.
*in the spirit of transparency, I do want to say that Danielle did give us a $1,000 refund and complimentary mimosas due to “all of the inconveniences.”
Very unprofessional. The venue itself is beautiful - a lovely setting for a wedding. Before I begin - a shout out to Erin and Marisa, they were very helpful. My son's wedding date was set up back in the fall. They were fairly new, but made lots of promises for all they would do and what we were allowed to do. As the months wore on and they became more established, they began backtracking on things that we had been told would be available or permissible. It was so stressful having to change things as they put new rules in place. The owner is clearly all about the dollar, not the people. We were told after the wedding to make sure to clear out all of our things and just not leave food and what not out. While we were clearing out that night, the event coordinator (Tanesha) began telling us we had to sweep and mop, clean the tables, put the chairs up etc. etc. which was not part of the agreement. She didn't do a darn thing until after the wedding when she walked around telling us what we had to do before we could leave. Near midnight after guests that were concerned about driving and drinking had left in Ubers, they demanded that we call them all to come back and get their cars that night saying they could not leave them until the morning. Therefore, asking the ones who had clearly drunk too much to come back and drive so they couldn't be inconvenienced with having cars in their parking lot overnight. Would not recommend this place - EVER.
We were the very first couple to get married in the newly built venue and everything turned out amazing.
The venue hadn't even started construction when we signed the contact and people thought we were crazy. However, I saw and truly believed in the vision that Danielle Saunders (Barn owner) had for the venue.
Pros -
- They allow you to use outside vendor's for Food and beverage. This is HUGE!!!!
- Only three miles from the Mainstreet of Fredericksburg, but in an amazing location hidden away on country property giving you the true hillcountry feel.
- One stop shop - you can start and finish your big day in one spot. There is an incredible bridal suite for ladies to spend the morning getting pampered and a very cool saloon for the groomsmen to get ready and hang in before the ceremony. There are several spots for a ceremony outside while having a backup inside the barn for bad weather. Great outdoor area for cocktail hour and indoor and outdoor options for dining and dancing.
- Holds up to 300 guests comfortably. that is hard to find in Fredericksburg as well.
I am from Fredericksburg and we live in Austin. It was the absolute best way to show all of our friends and family the sweet town i grew up in. We have friends and family from Austin, Houston, Dallas, Minnesota, California, Arizona and the list goes on that flew in to spend the weekend with us. They enjoyed spending a weekend in the sweet little town and exploring all that it has to offer.
The barn owner and manager were amazing and allowed me to bring in and combine my own vision with theirs. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and every little detail of the design and decor was very well thought out and vision is incredible. We had the absolute best wedding we could have ever imagined.
The venue was just perfect for us and I couldn't have imagined our special day anywhere else.
