About this vendor
Tavern on the Green is a landmark wedding venue located in New York City. Ideally situated in Central Park, weddings at the tavern receive the highest quality service in an idyllic setting. The venue boasts elegant event spaces and a delightful catering service of American cuisine that can be customized for private events.
The Tavern’s history can be traced back to the 1880s. Two centuries ago, much of Central Park was known as the Sheep Meadow, where 700 Southdown sheep made their home. Architect Calvert Vaux designed the building as a sheepfold to house the animals at night. During the 1930s, Robert Moses, a public official who was a major figure in the urbanization of New York, converted the sheepfold into a restaurant. In the years since 1934, the tavern has earned a reputation for its world-class cuisine and charming atmosphere. After a five-year gap in operation, the tavern reopened in 2014 under new management committed to carrying on its legacy. Its current owners, Jim Caiola and David Salama, brought a refreshing new perspective to the tavern that lives up to its legendary status.
Nestled in Central Park, Tavern on the Green features gorgeous views of the park’s foliage. Iconic attractions including the Central Park Carousel, Strawberry Fields, and Bethesda Terrace are all within a short walk from the venue. The tavern is surrounded by vibrant trees and sculpted shrubbery with the city’s towering skyscrapers in the background. Its red-brick exterior and exposed beams are evocative of an America of centuries past. Jim and David added warm wood paneling to the building’s interior in order to pay homage to the sheepfold. With elegant decor and bright dining rooms, this space can bring many wedding visions to life.
This historic venue can cater to events of up to 1,850 guests. Choose from one of several indoor spaces with vaulted ceilings for a refined event. Alternately, you can hold your wedding outdoors in either the Courtyard or the South Terrace with the New York City skyline as the backdrop. The venue’s events and culinary teams will work with you in order to ensure the celebrations and catering are carried out seamlessly. Serving exquisite dishes of New American fare, you can create your own personalized menu.

I'm still overcome with emotion as I think about how wonderful Kerry and the entire events team at Tavern on the Green made our wedding this past Saturday. We live a few blocks away from the restaurant and chose the location because its always felt like home to us. What we didn't know when we first made the selection, was that Kerry and Sara would become our family! These ladies made us feel so incredibly special from start to finish and on the big day, their pure joy was palpable. We had extremely high expectations for our wedding day and thanks to Kerry and Sara, our expectations were well exceeded. I will miss working with them on a daily/weekly basis and look forward to continuing what I truly consider to be newfound friendships. Thank you Kerry, Sara and everyone at TOTG for a wedding day we will truly never forget! We feel so lucky!!
The PERFECT reception venue in Manhattan! My husband and I had our wedding reception in the South Terrace at Tavern in March 2023. Not only was everything absolutely perfect, it was even better than we expected. We knew the food and service would be amazing (which it was!), but all the unexpected little details were what sent it above and beyond my wildest dreams. I was emotional throughout the entire day of my wedding obviously, but when my husband and I walked into the South Terrace with our planner, Kerry, before our guests came in, that was when I totally lost it — It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Throughout the entire year of planning with the Tavern team, they were so warm and welcoming to us, our friends and family. From the celebratory cocktails during in-person planning meetings to the dinner menu tasting where my husband and my parents’ met for the first time, their team made us feel so special. Thank you to Tavern for giving us such a wonderfully memorable day that we’ll get to carry with us for the rest of our lives.
Tavern on the Green was an actual dream to work with. Kerry was amazing and the night of my wedding nothing else besides my wedding seemed to matter which is amazing because the restaurant was still open too. They were problem solvers and when there were issues I as the bride did not even know until after they were solved. The food was amazing, people still telling me how good everything was, they were easy to work with when I had specific things I wanted done or decorated. They did all the set up and all of the take down for me and the next day everything was neatly stored for me to pick up. I am already planning to go back for our first anniversary and hope I can steal Kerry a few min to join us.
We can’t speak highly enough of Kerry and her team at Tavern. The entire events team were extremely attentive, professional, and helpful throughout our wedding planning process. Our guests were overwhelmed with the level of service and attention to detail.
Kerry was the partner of our dreams from day 1, going above and beyond to ensure that our vision for our wedding Reception was executed perfectly. There is no better venue in New York to host an elegant event and we can’t recommend Tavern enthusiastically enough.
A special thank you and acknowledgement to Kerry, Ryan, and our Events Captains for making every detail perfect.
We were married on 9/14/19. Tavern on the Green was the most romantic venue and Kerry created the most seamless and well-executed event for our wedding day. We wanted our guests to have the quintessential NYC experience and TOTG delivered that. There is nothing in the city that compares to a ceremony surrounded by the greenery and energy of Central Park and the south terrace provides the best space for a party after.
From our early meetings with Kerry nearly one year before our big day to our sendoff at the end of the night, she was always available to us and quick to respond to any questions we had. Her co-coordinator, Ryan, was a wonderful addition to our team. On the day of our event, they feel more like guests than anything else, but the bar, food service, and all other aspects are perfectly executed. The food tasted incredible and was beautifully prepared (which is something that you don’t expect at weddings!) – our sincerest compliments to the chef!
We are so happy with our decision to have our wedding at TOTG and love that we can go back to visit any time and relive our special day. Thank you to the entire team, especially Kerry, for creating the most perfect wedding venue.
We got married at Tavern on the Green last weekend and it was an absolute dream!! We never could have imagined our day could be that perfect and we owe it all to Audrey and her team. We're still hearing from guests of how much they loved the venue, food and overall evening! The staff at Tavern was incredibly friendly, professional, and on top of everything, making our evening completely stress free knowing they had it covered.
We also can't thank Audrey enough! Audrey made the complexity of planning a wedding so much easier, especially after we lost our original wedding venue and were scrambling to figure out what to do next. Audrey made it so we didn't have to start planning from scratch and had every little detail covered. Her calm, positive and stress-free demeanor throughout the planning process and day of the wedding kept us sane. Getting ready the morning of, I didn't think twice about how the venue was coming together since I knew Audrey would help bring our vision to life. And it was better than I even imagined!
Looking back, it's a blessing we lost our original wedding venue and could get married at the iconic Tavern on the Green. While the gorgeous venue speaks for itself, it's the unbelievable food and incredible staff that made all the difference. We hands down recommend Tavern for any event!!
I had my dream wedding at TOTG! I would highly recommend this menu for the professionalism alone. Everything was executed perfectly and ran so smoothly - that I had nothing to worry about! That with the beautiful atmosphere and delicious food, it was such a dream! I highly recommend this wonderful spot in Central Park :)
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding! I always dreamed of outdoor garden wedding, so we initially looked at all botanical gardens, but boy are we glad we chose Tavern On The Green. All the guests still rave how beautiful the wedding was and how we were so lucky to get married at iconic NYC landmark.
It was also a privilege to work with such a professional and thoughtful coordinator, Audrey!!! We planned the wedding for over a year, and can’t even count how many times we bothered Audrey with endless emails and calls 😬 She always had answers for everything and she even calmed my bridezilla moment 2-3 weeks before the wedding- I thought I was going crazy with all the last minute checks with vendors about the timeline and was thinking of hiring a day-of coordinator. Audrey told us that herself and TOTG team will take care of everything on the day of wedding and we absolutely don’t need to hire one. And sure enough everything was flawless!! Thank you Audrey! You and TOTG team made our dream wedding come true.
For such a storied venue, Tavern on the Green could easily rest on laurels. It does not. From the first consultation to waiving goodbye at the end of a truly perfect night, the entire team at Tavern (especially our coordinator Audrey) were enthusiastic, professional, experienced, and dedicated to delivering our dream wedding. Audrey was responsive and unfailingly gracious, leaving no detail to chance, always ready to brainstorm, and genuinely interested in realizing our vision. The menus offer contemporary, elevated yet unpretentious interpretations of classic crowd-pleasers, guaranteed to stand out in your guests' memories; and the wine list is exquisite. Moreover, the chef was able to accommodate most dietary restrictions and concerns. Each of Tavern's venues (our wedding took place in the South Wing and the adjacent South Terrace) has undergone major renovations that have restored the classic, understated elegance of its aesthetic. The setting feels at once both a beautiful and quiet oasis from the city and also inextricably linked to that magical skyline just above the trees. The walk through the park on the way to the reception also offers numerous opportunities for timeless photos for both the wedding party and guests. On every measure (quality of food and wine, service, location, and value), Tavern performs brilliantly, and should be ranked among the very best wedding venues that New York has to offer.
As a bride who originally never wanted to have a wedding celebration at all, our wedding at TOG was one of the best, most memorable and happiest days of my life. From the beginning our event coordinator Kerry catered to our every need, answered all of our questions and even gave us emotional support. Kerry and her co-coordinator Ryan’s enthusiasm and professionalism got us through the night even while we had to improvise. They were able to accommodate without issue as we activated an emergency rain plan in the middle of the cocktail hour. The his/hers cocktails were incredible, and drinks were flowing all night long. The staff was phenomenal. We received so many compliments on how attentive, accommodating and fast the service was. All of the guests had a magical time. Mustafa(sp?) and all of the other servers were very attentive to the groom and I - always making sure we were taken care of throughout the night. They brought us anything we wanted! Kerry and Ryan were also able to extend our time an additional half hour on a whim given the weather. Just wow! Thank you for the best night of our life.
Garden party in the center of NY. The outdoor space at Tavern was an incredibly green lush garden, it made for a perfect setting for our night. But that was just one part of what made our wedding truly amazing. Our guests kept coming up to us to tell us this was the best wedding they’ve been to, one local New Yorker remarked on how this was truly a unique New York experience, and that’s what made it so perfect. The food was amazing, from the tray passed appetizers to the perfectly cooked filet mignons, almost 100 of those that Tavern had to cook perfectly. The bar tenders were putting out amazing drinks, so good the best man even remarked upon it during his speech, and there was never a line at the bars. My bride and I were never without a drink either, I think I turned around and we had 6 half drunk glasses of prosecco on our sweetheart table. The staff was everywhere but never intrusive. When a table got knocked over by accident (remember I said the bartenders were great) the staff swarmed and had everything cleaned up in minutes, such that some guests never even knew it happened. And this was all just the day of. Before the day even came, Cassandra (the event coordinator) was crucial in recommendations, from a truly awesome photographer to the hit of the evening, a gelato cart. Then there was the emergency rain plan we had to agree upon the day before where I worked with Cassandra on what we would do if it rained. It never did rain and I was able to make the call for the normal wedding plan 2 hours ahead of time and Cassandra and her team went into action preparing the space.
Our wedding at Tavern on the Green was truly spectacular. We could not have imagined a better evening. At the time of signing the contract they did not have any of the positive reviews of the last few months, only the 1 unfortunate review from last fall. I was concerned, but we talked about it and I felt comfortable. Taking a chance on Tavern was the best choice we could make, they did not disappoint.
I feel like Tavern on the Green was a forgotten NY landmark after it’s closure then renovations for years. I certainly forgot about it. But it’s back now and if you want a truly NY experience for your wedding then do yourself a favor and at least have a conversation with the people at Tavern on the Green.
With a near endless laundry list of askings, everything in the setup of our space was delivered flawlessly and without a hitch. I and my husband were not only received warmly but so were all 38 guests.
The tables were decorated and prepared to the exacting T, our guests were made comfortable, water and wine were filled promptly and the space was perfectly set up at arrival.
We lucked out on the weather. But we lucked out, even more, getting to have our wedding dinner handled and cared for by such attentive, thoughtful, and dedicated managers in Ryan and Audrey.
I had the most wonderful night of my life when I got married at Tavern on the Green, and it would not have been possible without Audrey and her incredible team. Audrey is a consummate professional who helped us organize our wedding at Tavern all the way from Texas. She recommended vendors, provided introductions, coordinated all of the day of scheduling. She was always available to answer questions and provide information. Honestly, working with everyone at Tavern made my wedding planning experience nearly stress free. I am so lucky I got to marry my best friend in such a beautiful and iconic New York City venue. I enjoyed every single moment of my wedding at Tavern and hope to celebrate there each year for our anniversary!
It is with great pleasure that I leave this review for Tavern on the Green. My wife and I had dreamed of a Central Park Wedding. After our initial venue (not to be named, but let's just say it was in Central Park) fell through we were left without a wedding venue with around three weeks to plan.
We were excited to hear that Tavern on the Green was available our night. From the moment we met Kerry, the banquet manager, we were immediately put at ease. Re-planning a wedding in three weeks was a daunting task, made even more complicated by the fact that we had no wedding planner and a very busy work schedule. Kerry was available nearly 24/7 and addressed every need or concern that we could have possibly had.
The venue was stunning. They had arranged for us to have the south wing as well as a large, heated tent which sat on the south side of the facility. We were able to throw the party in the tent while keeping the south wing open for our more reserved guests.
I could not believe the army of bow-tied waiters, bar-tenders and other staff that were flying around the Tavern during our wedding night with seemingly effortless coordination. No guest went without a plethora of hors d'oeuvres and I personally never saw the bottom of my drink. Ryan, the floor manager was truly the Maestro of this orchestra.
The food was excellent with Peking duck spring rolls to the chicken and waffles to begin the evening. The night ended with cake pops that were passed around (we didn't want to stop the party so Kerry had arranged a standing dessert). The liquor menu was truly top shelf and one of the best I have seen at a wedding venue and the bartenders whipped up drinks with fantastic speed and accuracy.
It was a shock to have lost our initial wedding venue. At the end of the day, however, it was a blessing to have found ourselves this incredible place. For those of you who come across this review while looking for a venue, I encourage you to plan a visit to the Tavern.
After months of planning imagine the horror when you walk into your wedding venue just an hour before your guests arrive and NOTHING is set up – there are card board boxes of the previous nights events where your tables should be. That was my experience in November 2017 at Tavern on the Green.
To begin with: Me (the bride) and my family were yelled at by NYC Cops and security, not allowed to drive up the main entrance to be dropped off with my GOWN and other wedding necessities. The “wedding team” at TOG failed to notify security that there was a wedding that day and they must let us, including our guests, in through the private entrance. Imagine running around the streets of NYC with your wedding gown that you spent endless hours shopping for and thousands of dollars on dragging in the streets.
Then, Katherine, the person I had been communicating with for MONTHS left someone else in charge of my wedding day, and when we finally did enter the venue she was giving a tour to potential clients instead of making sure my wedding day went smoothly. Audreywas more interested in making another deal than taking care of me, her current client ON MY WEDDING DAY.
Next, as late fall and winter in NYC goes, it was obviously cold. I had my wedding in the atrium, and the heat was not on when I arrived, it was frigid, my guests had to leave their coats on during the wedding, and some people had to use the heat from the votives on the table to heat themselves, how embarrassing, when you spend TOG type of money you expect and deserve a lot more than that.
Then, as most weddings are the priest/rabbi/or whoever is conducting the rituals would naturally need a podium or something of that nature. I was supposed to walk down the aisle at 7pm but I didn’t get to until close to 8!!! Why? Because they didn’t have a podium, then one they had kept falling over – imagine all your guests seated waiting for the ceremony to begin and TOG staff running around trying to figure this out, and not just that they don’t have a bridal suite, so I was waiting in the BATHROOM in my wedding gown for 45 minutes (because obviously you don’t want anyone to see you before you walk down the aisle).
For dinner, Katherine and Audrey promised me the guests tables would be spread throughout the venue, however it became very apparent that the events team at TOG either don’t read their emails or they just don’t care about the service their clients get once they are paid. They, of course did not move the tables. You might be wondering, so what? Well, my guests, including myself were being bumped into by the wait staff, my guests were being elbowed in the head as they staff made their way putting down entrees. Imagine your dear friends and guests in their finest being walked into and struck (albeit on accident) by the wait staff, I was mortified!
At the end of the evening the desserts, cake, and coffee were barely left out for a half hour, most of my guests never even saw the dessert table. From the time we arrived to the end of the night the event staff treated us like cattle, as if they were doing me a favor after we spent thousands of dollars not to mention precious time planning what was supposed to be the night of our lives.
It is a tragic thing when a New York Icon like Tavern on the Green lets you down this way. Poor service, poor management, highly disappointing. In the event planning business integrity is everything, and riding your name will only get you so far.
TOG had to be the best place we had seen when looking for our venue. Everyone from the waitstaff, florist, pastry chef to the coordinator we had, Nicole, provided excellent service! They truly did everything to accomodate us the day of, and they made our wedding day memorable. I only wish it were still open so we could celebrate there every year!
Lots of windows, mirrors, to enjoy all the trees with lights and laterns.;I was not happy with the florist. They have an inhouse florist. The flowers were late for my ceremony and none of the centerpieces and bouquets looked like what I wanted and was promised.
We loved the food, dancing, atmosphere of being at Tavern in Central Park.;It is expensive.
Tavern on the Green is one of the Classiest and most beautiful places that you can host a wedding. Nestled within NYC's Central Park it is a beautiful victorian decorated rest. with amazing chandeliers in every room. All you need is flowers for the bridal party. The food was also first class nice presentation perfectly cooked. We had our wedding ceremony there as well as our reception. The evening itself was wonderful the head of the waitstaff Rodney took great care of us and coordinated the events the evening wonderfully. We couldn't speak more highly of him.;Unfortunately we did have a few bumps in the road......... 1) Arrival into the restaurant entrance was terrible. Some of our reserved parking spots that were paid for in advance were not even used by guests because they told us they were being blocked from entering the entrance to the Tavern on the Green. 2) Guests were not shown into the garden area for the 6- 6:30 PM time period but instead were told to sit in the room where our ceremony was to be (Discussion that we had with Sarah was that guests were presented a drink upon arrival and then would wait on the patio. Some guests even told us they were led to the bar mitzvah that was taking place that afternoon/evening. 3) Our specially engraved Celtic champagne flutes were both broken. They were on the table reserved only for the bride and groom. When we went to get them at the end of the evening both were on the table broken. One of our guests who is a caterer said that if this happens the restaurant is responsible for replacing them. 4) The plated appetizer of ahi tuna was very skimpy. At the tasting we were shown that the actual served appetizer would have 3 slices of tuna but instead it was served with 2 slices of tuna and very small accompaniment. 5) We paid for a bar set-up during the dinner in the dining room but it was not in either the Rafters Room or Terrace Room. Guests later told us they were not aware of an open bar during dinner since it was placed outside in the Garden. 6) Lastly the wedding coordinator Sarah did not stay for the whole function to oversee our event. Thank goodness the Maitre 'D Rodney did a terrific job to coordinate the whole event. He went above and beyond and we will remember him for doing such a great job that evening. As for Sarah we felt that she definitely fell short of what a wedding coordinator should do. As you can recall Bryan our initial meeting with the Tavern Shawn and I flew in from Florida and arranged with Sarah weeks in advance to meet sign the agreement and drop off the 1st deposit if you remember you had to fill in that morning and take care of all the necessary arrangements since Sarah did not show up. As for the other details throughout the year it was us who had to contact Sarah each and every time to update her on our wedding arrangements. Furthermore she got into an argument with my father regarding a question that we had regarding the sales tax being charged on the service charge. She threatened him that if the final balance was not paid she would cancel the wedding. We felt that this was very unprofessional behavior in any business. She could have used more tact in handling this situation.
That it's in Central Park!!!
It's tavern on the green it was amazing. The fixtures are beautiful the space is beautiful the staff was great. They work with the space amazingly well!;Rain happens but if you have candles/lanterns it is all the more beautiful.
;We had VERY bad experience with Tavern on the green the person who was in charge of our reception was not helpful AT ALL. They lost some of our staff that we brought in there the day before the wedding they didn't do what I requested( for example the wedding cake color was different from what I asked. The decoration of escort table wasnt what I requested and even they lost our welcome board. It is still missing.) Tavern on the Green looks very nice but in reality that is not the case AT ALL. I definitely not recommend anybody this reception site they totally suck! In addition food sucks as well!!
Location - Central Park. Outdoor cocktail hour. Easy to work with.
I always dreamt as a little girl of getting married at Tavern on the Green - the setting is magical in Central Park. Then when it came time to find a venue it was on of the most reasonably priced places for what was included. But, the location and ambience is what drew me to it. Especially the Terrace Room where I had my ceremony.;Be specific with the contract. have them re-word things you have issues with. Be firm.
Location. We were married in Central Park
Tavern on the Green was perfect for our day. We arrived and had cocktails in th courtyard where a steel drum band entertained us until our table was ready. We had time to take fun pictures around The Tavern's landscaping and the Great LAwn just across the street!
