3 Iconic Spaces In One Spectacular Building
The Alexandria Ballrooms is a historic wedding venue located in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Originally built in 1906, these opulent banquet halls have been the site of a myriad of exclusive events, including the wedding ceremony of Charlie Chaplin. Over the years they have welcomed presidents and Hollywood stars and have featured in music videos for such stars as Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj. These ballrooms provide a breathtaking backdrop for your night of unparalleled sophistication and style.
The Alexandria Ballrooms houses three magnificent ballrooms where you can host your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The Palm Court can seat 260 guests and features arched ceilings, crystal chandeliers, Tiffany skylights, and intricate wainscoting. The adjacent Cocktail Lounge comes with a built-in bar and private grand entrance where you can set up a red carpet. The King Edward Ballroom can accommodate 200 seated and boasts gold leaf ceilings, crystal chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows, and vaulted skylights. Finally, the largest ballroom, the Mezz, can hold 500 for receptions and is characterized by an industrial-chic ambiance. This banquet hall has exposed brick walls, detailed wrought iron wall sconces and lighting fixtures, and a marble staircase. The room also features a wall of windows that bathe the hardwood floors in sunshine and offer spectacular views of the surrounding historic buildings.
When you rent The Alexandria Ballrooms, you will have access to the venue for 15 hours of event time. Rental packages come with two dressing rooms, 72-inch round tables, eight-foot banquet tables, cocktail tables with stools, and white Chiavari chairs. Outside vendors and caterers are welcome and must be licensed and insured. Caterers can use the on-site kitchen and bar for their preparations.

I had my wedding here in 2024 and have to leave an honest review. The Knot lists this venue as affordable... this is a hugely misleading. The initial cost seems affordable compared to other venues, but there are a long list of required things you must pay for that end up doubling the cost of the "fee". Multiple security guards, valet, cleaners, dance floor, wedding coordinator, site rep fee. These are all required fee's that most other venues include in the total cost but the Alexandria doesn't and requires you to pay for all these. On top of all this, the venue must be totally cleared out by 3am the same night. The venue doesn't allow for drop-offs the night before. This means you'll end up paying hundreds more per vendor for them to come and clear things up the same night. Then there's a list of pricey caterers you need to pick from, otherwise you'll be charged an additional $2.5k. COI's required from every vendor and also the couple. Was told by Jemma that the bride and groom rooms were included in our package and then the day of the wedding, we were told it wasn't.
There is zero flexibility with the Alexandria Ballroom. The location is next to Skid Row. You will be nickel and dimed for every little thing. I loved my wedding and don't regret my choices, but I wish I had been more informed about this place.
The entire process with the Alexandria Ballroom was a positive one.
From the initial walk through we did until the wedding itself we had a great experience dealing with Kritza and Jemma. Whether it was emails, calls or in person we always were able to be in contact and feel confident that our wedding was going in the right directionWe were blessed to be able to not only host our wedding with all of our closest family and friends; but we now have a lifetime of memories captured with our wedding photos via the amazing backdrops the ballroom provides. All of our wedding guests were so impressed with the beauty and aesthetic that was provided and a part of our special day. We are so grateful we made the decision to go with this location and would absolutely recommend it to others!
We had our wedding at Alexandria Ballrooms 8/27/22 and it was a dream come true. We had our ceremony in the King Edward Ballroom and reception in the Palm Court, which are both absolutely stunning rooms. When my husband and I first saw this venue in person, we knew it was the one.
We worked with Jemma (Alexandria Ballrooms management), she is very responsive and accommodating. We had to postpone our wedding twice due to the pandemic, Jemma was so flexible and understanding.
Our wedding day ran very smoothly, Jemma was there to assist. We used the white chiavari chairs and tables which was included in the cost. We had 3 security guards. We also opted to rent the bridal and grooms suites which were spacious and provide a private space for the wedding party prior to the wedding festivities. We also were able to have our wedding rehearsal at the venue the day prior which was awesome to be able to run through the wedding ceremony.
I highly recommend this historic and gorgeous wedding venue!
Any questions?
The Alexandria Ballrooms were the first venue we toured for our wedding and I was sold on the spot- we saw a couple more places but nothing compared to the grandeur and elegance of this amazing, historic venue.
Jemma was our liaison and she is an absolute gem, She is so sweet and responsive and was present on the day of our wedding to help and make sure things went off without a hitch. She patiently answered all my millions of questions and really helped to accommodate us throughout the whole process.
The venue overall is a gorgeous blank slate- they provide chairs and tables and the rest is up to you. This is something that really appealed to my family and I since we were able to bring in our own decorations and catering- also the venue goes until 1am- much later than most other LA venues that end at 10 or 11.
If you are looking for your wedding to be an absolute showstopper then look no further!
My niece got married (Pitts -07/07/17) and held her reception here. Everything was beautiful. I helped organizing and coordinating with the vendors. The staff (especially Michelle) was AMAZING!! They were so accommodating. Everything went off without a hitch. All of the guest were very impressed. Since then I have been thinking about what my family can do at this venue. Thank you for everything.
The Alexandria Ballrooms are a dream. I fell in love with this venue as soon as I saw it. The King Edward has high ceilings, polished hard wood flooring, large mirrors, beautiful chandeliers, a balcony over looking the venue. The King Edward is where I had my wedding ceremony and I barely needed to decorate the room
I want to take the time to write a short review about this venue as a dj and as a guest. I have been a dj over 20 years, have been part of 1,000s of weddings, and have dj in many different venues, but nothing like “The Palm Court Ballroom”. It was amazing!! I loved the venue, the flower arrangements, the food and of course the music! The bar lounge was awesome! Friendly bartenders! Michelle A., the coordinator, was fantastic! She worked hard to make sure everything ran as planned. She made sure that the bride and groom and their guest were taken care of. As a dj being able to work and to communicate with the event coordinator is very important, Michelle was super easy to work with. She made my job a lot easier! Overall, I recommend this venue!
My husband and I had an absolute magical wedding here. We saw a few other venues that didn't feel "right" for us, but after attending an event here we knew this was the place. After touring the place we were certain and booked it. For only giving ourselves 2 and a half months of planning time, the event was a great success and the only thing that went wrong the entire night was that the caterer ran out of vodka, and it took a hour to get more.
We held our event in the Palm Court Ballroom and attached cocktail lounge.. The staff was easy to work with and worked out a payment plan that fit our budget and ensured that it would be paid in full on time.
We received so many compliments about the venue choice and the ceremony itself. The place is already so elegant looking that even minimal dressing made it look that more amazing. I also suggest renting the bridal suite as it came in handy for us all night.
My husband and I were extremely pleased how everything turned out and highly recommend this venue for your special day!
We got married here in March of 2017. We held both our ceremony and reception.
Ceremony: King Edward Ballroom
This is probably my favorite of the 3 rooms. High ceilings, wood floors, massive chandeliers. You really do feel like you are in an old ballroom in New York, not in the heart of Los Angeles. You also have huge windows on one side of the ballroom. This room made for spectacular photos. On the other side of the room is a balcony, where we had a singer perform.
Reception: Palm Terrace Ballroom
We rented this ballroom for the reception along with the cocktail area right outside it. We had about 260 in the Palm Terrace. Another beautiful room, no windows, but it has beautiful chandeliers and a massive stain glass window on the ceiling. With 260 we weren't able to have a bar inside, I was concerned that our guests would have to keep going out to the cocktail area, but it turned out not to be a problem at all. We also hired Michelle as our day of coordinator (which I would definitely recommend, she knows the place well and took a lot of stress away from us).
In conclusion, I can't be happier that we chose the Alexandria Ballrooms. It was an amazing day, and an amazing venue.
When we first saw the venue, my fiance and I fell in love and knew we wanted to have our wedding here. We worked closely with Michelle, one of the venue coordinators. When we booked the venue, our prices were high but checking their website again, their prices were higher. People are falling in love with the venue and more people are booking this place. The venue itself was absolutely amazing and great for the theme that I had for my wedding. I had a very old Hollywood, presidential, elegant ballroom wedding. The ballrooms have amazing chandeliers that really wowed our guests.
The only downside to the venue is the management. The management seems really disorganized. A few months before our wedding date, someone from their management emailed me about mailing in my final payment which I submitted by mail timely. Then few weeks later, I was emailed again for our final payment. After responding that I did, I was anxiously waiting for their response which didn't come for a few days. In those days I was calling my bank making sure the check was not deposited by somebody else. It was added stress and anxiety that I didn't need. In the end, they verified they had my final payment and everything was okay. Secondly, my wedding planner had a difficult time verifying that we would have the exact number of tables and chairs for the wedding. We were guaranteed a certain number of chairs and tables from the venue via contract but the staff at Alexandria had a hard time tracking their tables and chairs and could not confirm an exact number with us so we ordered additional chairs and tables which was an added cost that I didn't expect. This was all during the last 2 weeks before the wedding. Very stressful.
Overall, the venue was amazing and gorgeous but the management could be more organized. I hope they improve for the future couples who also fall in love with the venue space.
