I prayed whether I should even bother with a review or move on with my life. In the end, if I can save another bride and groom from what I experienced at the The Barn, then it’s worth rehashing my negative experience. They were unprofessional and unorganized. When concerns were brought up, they were largely indifferent. Nearly every response was met with, “well that’s what you should expect when you rent a barn.” They mowed everywhere except the location where their arbor is located, which was the specific location of our ceremony. If my husband hadn’t been so assertive, I doubt they would have rectified the situation prior to the wedding. That said, we rented the venue for the weekend to ensure sufficient time to set up and clean up for the big day and to have the rehearsal dinner on site the day prior to the wedding. So when they reluctantly came to mow, it was in the middle of the rehearsal dinner. Loud and the mower kicked up debris. We made the best of it and didn’t stress, but it was not ideal, especially considering the cost associated with renting the venue for the weekend. It became increasingly stressful when they frequently visited the venue, specifically when we were not there. They justified their actions by referring to the fine print within the contract. However, nowhere in the contract does it mention disturbing the way we set up and our personal belongings. The day of the wedding they again entered when we were not there and turned off the AC. By the time we realized, there was not enough time to cool down the area prior to the wedding. They justified their actions by claiming the AC is only for the back area and not for the actual barn, which we knew, but they could have left the AC on and utilized the doors to limit the AC to that area or they could have simply called and talked to us. Due to their actions, the area where the food is kept was very warm. In fact, the barn was hot and miserable during the wedding reception. My guest were so gracious and positive but it was a sauna and nothing like the day prior when the AC was fully utilized. The day after the wedding, we had until noon to clean. When we arrived, the owner and his son (aka “the board”) were already inside throwing away our things. The owner explained, “you’re not capable of having the property clean by noon.” He may have been anxious to prepare for his rotary club meeting later that day. Unfortunately, I was aware of the meeting because The Barn displayed a large sign near the entrance of their property promoting the rotary club meeting day/time. I wish they had removed it for my wedding day at least. Regardless of their reasons for showing up and messing with our personal belongings, my husband was furious and asked “the board” to leave. After they left, we noticed the AC unit they turned off on our wedding day because “it should not to be used to cool the barn” was on full blast for the owners as they were working in the barn. Apparently, the rotary club meeting people hold significantly more worth to the members of the barn’s board than the couple who spent over $20,000 on their special day. By 11:00 (an hour ahead of schedule) we left the barn cleaner than the day we got it. There were more frustrations that contributed to our awful experience. At the end of the day, God is good, we are married, and life is too short to let those memories overshadow our blessings, but I sure wish I had picked a different venue.
We had our wedding at The Barn at Kill Creek Farm this past weekend. It was WONDERFUL! We had such an amazing time and got so many compliments regarding the venue from guests. Sherry (The Barn Event Scheduler) was always extremely quick to respond to my emails with my questions/concerns both before and after the event. The day before the wedding during set-up, we realized we needed a few extra tables/chairs. I called Sherry and someone dropped off the extra tables/chairs within a few hours. Truly amazing service for the price we paid, and I'm so, so happy we decided to have our wedding at The Barn. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a wedding venue!
