The Catering Place

I want to give this place a good review, because the dealing with them was a breeze, they worked within my budget and helped me curate what was supposed to be an amazing menu. But the food just wasn't good. It tasted nothing like what we ate during our tasting - after my wedding my grandmother even said how terrible the food was. The chicken was pink inside and the salmon tasted like someone spilled too much old bay on it and just said "ehh." For the amount of money I spent I expected better. But like I said, everyone was very friendly and helpful.

We found TCP as a preferred vendor through our wedding venue (HPO). From the start, I had the pleasure of corresponding with Jnel. I told my (now) husband that I didn’t care about the quality of the food, I just wanted to hire Jnel and the team because of her responsiveness and thoroughness. TCP offers all sorts of customizable packages for food options to suite any pallet. When we arrived for our catering tasting for our wedding, we were all blown away by the quality of every portion of the meal! The flavors and dishes were beyond delicious and we made it a point to tell every person invited to the wedding how excited we were for dinner! In a world where there are unlimited options, TCP will forever be our first catering choice, as they exceed the standard! There were several people at our wedding, myself included, who have dietary sensitivities, and TCP accommodated for all of those necessities. TCP also referred us to our bakery, Sugar Bottom Bakery, who created an incredible gluten free tiered cake in different flavors that everyone raved about! Once wedding day arrived, every guest we talked to said the food was amazing and they were all wildly happy! Thank you to TCP for your integrity, quality and exceptional service! We are obsessed!

Working with The Catering Place was definitely one of the most pleasurable experiences of our wedding. From the planning to the day of the wedding, their entire team was flexible, responsive, and professional. During our tasting and planning sessions, they accommodated all of our wishes and made all the changes we requested. On the day of the wedding, their staff was professional and efficient in setting up for the reception. Everything was clean and presented beautifully. The servers and bartenders were remarkably polite. But let’s talk about the food. Everything was delicious! Some highlights included the pimento BLT biscuits at cocktail hour, the brisket, the potato medley, and the charred broccolini. Those are just the things we remember directly. Even the salads got rave reviews! The Catering Place also accommodated our vegetarian guests with delicious meals. They even provided a hot beverage bar to accompany our desserts, and this was a big hit with all the guests. Lastly, we can’t speak to the individual costs of their service, but we can tell you that we researched the costs and attended tastings for many caterers in Hampton Roads. The Catering Place definitely provided the best value. We cannot recommend them highly enough if you are getting married (or having any sort of a party that needs great food) in the Hampton Roads area.

The Catering Place made our wedding planning process go smoothly and always made us feel validated and supported-even during the chaos of covid! They were always there to listen, make suggestions and worked with us through reschedules and menu changes and all of it. The food itself was outstanding of course, but it is the helpful staff that really made them stand out to us. Jnel and Corey were always quick to respond to emails and extremely supportive as we navigated a difficult planning process. They helped make our actual event day run smoothly and their food displays were stunning! Their event staff was amazing and were incredibly quick to anticipate needs and provide amazing service. We really can't thank them enough for their hard work, dedication, positive attitudes and exemplary culinary and service experience!

The Catering Place is amazing! The care and detail they put into your event and the food is exceptional! They are such nice people and we really enjoyed working with them! The food was great and we are still hearing from our guests about the cornbread!

I have worked with The Catering Place as both a wedding coordinator and bride, and I cannot say enough great things about their company. Jnel & Corey truly care about their clients and give 100% to their events. Jnel is so quick to respond, which is rare to find in a caterer. For my own wedding, TCP customized our menu to exactly what my husband and I were looking for- including some of our favorite foods as late night snacks! Jnel was patient with all of the changes we faced due to COVID-19 and was always quick to send me an updated invoice. Their phrase "from home fries to black ties" truly describes their company as they give you exactly what you're looking for (I've seen them cater buffet, family style and plated meals) at an unbeatable price. The booking/planning and tasting process was all wonderful and the service the day-of was even better! Seriously, hire TCP for whatever event you're planning and you won't regret it!

Amazing food! Jnel is excellent to work with and helps get all you details (not just food, but looks, linen, etc) to be what you want! Cory is a wonderful cook and all the staff and servers are friendly and talented!

Oh man...what can I say about The Catering Place other than the fact that they were one of the greatest companies to work with that I could have ever imagined. Corey and Jnel are an absolute DREAM to work with. Weddings can be crazy and stressful, but they made it seem so easy. Not only were they our caterer, but they were our rental liaison and our second wedding planners. For our reception we went with the Low Country Boil, which was perfect for our outdoor casual wedding. The fact that people are still talking about the food a month later says it all - it was both beautiful and insanely delicious. They are masters of the wedding catering profession. It was everything and so much more than we expected and are so grateful. Feeding 160 people with such ease takes incredible talent and experience - both of which they have. As I mentioned, they also took care of all of the rentals for us since they were familiar with our venue at Windsor Castle Park. This included the reception tent, chairs & tables, bathroom trailer, golf carts for transportation, lighting, servers & bartenders, and so many other things. If you are thinking about using The Catering Place for your wedding, you will not regret one thing about it. Thank you, Corey & Jnel, for serving up such spectacular food for us and our guests and for helping to make our wedding day so smooth and easy. We are so grateful to you and your team.

We had Corey and Jnel cater our reception and I can not recommend The Catering Place enough! They were accommodating, easy to work with, and able to plan interesting meals and appetizers even in uniquely difficult circumstances (on a boat with no oven or microwave), and on top of it all the food was FANTASTIC. We consistently got comments from our guests about the amazing food (shout-out to Corey for the pimento cornbread pops, Brie and honeycomb, and Ahi Tuna wontons). All at a very reasonable level cost for the product we got. Can’t recommend them enough! I should mention that my wife is very particular and went through three caterers before finding The Catering Place. Every step of the experience she raved about the amazing service received and what a pleasure they were to work with. Thank you, Corey and Jnel!!

Corey and Jnel are the DREAM TEAM! First off, their food is incredible - not your standard wedding food, custom menus, and we received so many compliments. We did a plated duo plate with passed hors d'oeuvres and everything was perfect! They also are just awesome people to work with. They are so laid back and make wedding planning a breeze. Every time I met with them, I was met with a cold beer and an open mind, and Jnel was ready to tackle any request I had. Jnel also coordinated all of my rentals and linens, taking so much off my plate. During the cocktail hour and reception, she and her staff handled any bumps that came up and I didn't notice a thing. We HIGHLY recommend TCP for any events you're planning. They made our wedding day and planning for absolutely perfect!

Amazing! The service, food, professionalism, and all the perks of other vendor associations make them more then ideal. The food is AMAZING. When you go in for a tasting you will know this is the caterer for you. You will not regret having them as your cater, they know their craft and whatever you may need.

The food at our wedding was to die for.. Everyone always said that I wouldn't eat on my wedding day (nerves, etc.), but after our tasting, I assured everyone that I absolutely would be eating on my wedding day because I couldn't pass it up! From the finger sandwiches to the main course, everything was perfect.

Easy to work with and very accommodating. Made great food and took the reigns when things came down to the wire and little details fell through the cracks. The caterers took care of all our guests and they took care of us! May want to discuss your intentions for how alcohol will be served explicitly, but take that with a grain of salt; it's a wedding and drinks are going to flow pretty constantly.

I am VERY late in writing my thank you's to vendors and sending out reviews...but late is better than never, right? I LOVED working with The Catering Place. They are extremely friendly and offer AMAZING customer service which to me, is one of the best qualities a business can offer. My husband and I chose The Catering Place because we loved being able to take care of multiple aspects of our wedding planning in one place, and after our first meeting with Cory, we walked away immediately thinking he was a super cool guy, and showed that he really goes ABOVE and BEYOND for his clients. We were able to not only take care of the catering aspect, but we also took care of rentals (tents, tables, chairs, linens, the whole shebang!), DJ services (Music Makes You Happy--AHHHHmazing! check 'em out!), tuxedo rentals, and my husband and I were treated phenomenally! If you are looking for a Caterer who truly has his client's best interest in mind, look no further! They literally took care of some of the most stressful things on my wedding day, and everything went so SMOOTH! Please check them out, I promise you will NOT be disappointed by this great business! :)

Corey and the staff were amazing! From the moment I contacted Corey I knew that I wanted him to cater my wedding. I met with five other caterers in the area and it was an easy decision to make! Corey was able to handle a lot of "extras" for us in order to save me time. I did not hire a planner so my time was precious! Corey listened to what we wanted and helped us create a menu that we could afford and were happy with. We had a completely custom menu- a plated salad and the rest was buffet. His team took care of everything for their set-up and clean up. His staff was polite and very helpful. The Dr. Pepper Ham was delicious! The smashed potato bar was adorable. The veggies were all crisp and tasted wonderful. All of the appetizers were fabulous and looked beautiful. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with were the mashed potatoes. They were very runny and didn't have a great flavor. The mashed sweet potatoes were wonderful though!

I am a full time student and work full time as well in Downtown Norfolk. But grew up in Suffolk, so I know I wanted my wedding to be in Suffolk and my caterer to be in Suffolk as well. He was welling to have phone meetings, meet with later in the evening and always answered my emails.

Corey was awesome and so helpful. The catering staff was extremely helpful and on point the day of the wedding and everyone loved the food. We ended up with TONS of leftovers that we're still munching on!

The Catering Place was referred to me by a friend who was using them also. The is a great 'family' company and the owner, Corey, is so easy to work with. The food was really good and he provided more than we needed and a really great price. At the wedding the servers set up everything, kept the food trays full and even packed up plates for our band! Customer Services is still alive! ;-)

Food was great. Everything done exactly how I dreamed. Corey is laid back and knows his stuff. Could not be happier.

Our experience started off with a reccomendation from our florist, and was nothing short of truly spectacular from then on. Cory and his staff were extremely professional and very easy to work with throuought the entire process. From the tasting to now, we still talk about how wonderful our food, experience, etc., was and they went above and beyond to reduce stress that could pop up on the day of our wedding. Cory even made sure that we were aware of liquor license laws for our event State and venue. I could go on for hours about how pleased with our service we were! The Catering Place is definitely the first on our list to call if we ever need catering service again, and my family and guest have reccomended their service to others recently due to their delicious creations and professionalism. Thank you, Cory and staff for making our day perfect!

My husband and I used The Catering Place for our labor day weekend wedding. We were very happy with the food. The presentation was so beautiful and fantastic that I didn't even want to eat it! My husband is Cuban and we wanted food to reflect our Caribbean themed reception and Cory fulfilled our wishes. He even bought a pan especially for our huge paella! He went above and beyond with the food and we could not have been happier. We received many complements on our food. If I ever need a caterer again, I would definitely use The Catering Place. The only negative thing I have to say is that, they didn't save us any leftovers to take with us. Its hard to find time to eat when you have so many people to see and so much dancing to do, so by the end of the night we were starving, but the caterer had packed up and left. A box of food would have been nice to take with us to munch on at the hotel, but I'm positive that if we had requested one at the beginning of the night it would have been provided. Overall I was extremely happy with our choice of using the Catering Place!

Corey was amazing! Everyone complimented the food, it was beautifully presented, and the prices were great! My 9 month old nephew (who was throwing a fit) even loved him - Corey was the only one who could get him calmed down, and he carried him around during the ceremony. I can't say enough good things about Corey and his employees, or the food. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for wonderful food at a great price, and great service!
