Incredibly disappointed with my experience trying to plan a wedding here.
They recently changed their policy to allow only one exclusive caterer unless you are willing to pay the exorbitant $500 outsourcing fee. I was a bit apprehensive about this to begin with, but I was reassured that this caterer (Bouk) was the best, both in terms of food and customer service. I wish I could say the food was good, but in two months I was never even able to schedule a tasting with them. The communication was poor and it seemed like the only time I heard from the caterer with any concrete information was after I brought my complaints to the citizen's center.
I put my complaints in writing and forwarded them to the center and when I asked if we could rearrange the reservation so that we could still have our ceremony in the garden and have our reception elsewhere (so that I didn't have to cancel the whole thing), I was basically gently encouraged to cancel and "move forward with a different option." Essentially I was being told that everyone (including the supervisor) thought it would be best for me not to have any part of my wedding at the Mack Center.
I couldn't believe how unwelcoming that felt. It appears that the caterer's busy schedule took precendnt over a satisfied customer...a bride-to-be no less. Although they basically gave me no options on how to resolve the situation outside of cancelling, they still processed the cancellation with the 50% rent fee. Although I realize this is the contact I signed and their standard policy, they didn't even apologize. No effort made to help. Honestly, I'm sure the Mack Center would have been a great venue. The staff was great...at the beginning. But since they have changed their policy it seems like they may be willing to jeopardize their reputation with customers to preserve their new relationship with Bouk catering.
There are a lot of other wonderful venues in the Charlotte and Lake Norman areas that are affordable and give you options for catering...that way, if you don't have a good experience with one, you are not blacklisted from the venue all together.
A beautiful venue. I got married in the courtyard area and then had the reception in the great rooms. Met with Mrs. Morrow about linens and tables and I showed up the day of the wedding with everything I had talked about already taken care of. Everyone who was a guest at the wedding loved the venue. We also had to add some tables and linens the day of and they were happy to help us and take care it for us. There was another wedding there that night and you wouldn't have even known it.
Great venue for the value, many areas to suit all your needs, excellent staff!
This place was affordable and perfect for our wedding. The people were very kind and helpful, making it a very good experience.
The place was gorgeous and the were so easy to work with! Excellent experience!
The ladies at the front desk are really nice and super helpful. I felt like I had gone over everything with them: renting linens, floor plan of how I want the room set up, renting equipment, etc. Although the ladies at the front desk were easy to work with, I don't think the lines of communication to the people that set everything up are very good. When my mom arrived the day of, the floor plan looked nothing like the copy I left the front desk. When my mom asked what happened, the lady said they had the right copy of the floor plan, but they just didn't think everything would fit the way I had it on there. So my mom had to show them it would work and had them re-do it (which it did all fit) this put her behind 45 min. Also when I talked to the ladies at the front, they had told me they could dim the lights to give it a more candle-lit feel. But when the actual reception began and I went to ask the liaison to dim the lights, she gave me a hard time not wanting to turn off the fluorescent lights and leave just the dimmers on. She did it eventually, but it would have been nice not to have to worry about that once I arrived. It is a good location and it can be very pretty if decorated, but just make sure you go over every detail. And ask that the staff really follow your instructions, maybe leave a number you can be reached at if they need to change stuff last minute.
All that and more await you if you rent and plan your wedding with these guys!!! Being a high school student in Mooresville City Schools I have frequently been a guest at various events hosted by this center: Parties, Naval Balls, my Senior Prom, so I knew before hand that they were great to work with, what I encountered blew me away. They were so helpful throughout our planning process and offered great ideas to make our day better!! They were present throughout our whole day and were the best people we could have trusted with our big day!! Will I recommend The Citizens Center to others? YES!!
We chose CMC for three reasons: 1. incredible value, 2. it could accommodate both a ceremony and reception, and 3. the beautiful courtyards. We were very happy with our service and everything was beautiful. There was plenty of parking even with two other events going on at the same time. And everything they said they would do they did. It was a great place to be married.
the mack center was awesome to work with during all the wedding stress. the room was beautiful when i walked in. they will work with your needs and the morning of the wedding i needed more chairs at the head table and they had no problem getting them for me. very beautiful courtyards attached!!! was so impressed!!
The Citizen Center was a great venue. Plenty of space, lovely atmosphere, and a great price.
The staff at the Citizen Center were amazing! Very helpful fron the beginning when we first booked them to the end when the last piece of trash was picked up at the reception!
You could use your own caterer plus it had a nice outdoor patio for cocktails; If you're looking for 'lavish' I wouldn't go with this place. It's a nice place that holds a lot of people for a less expensive price
