Laura and The Citizen Hotel team did a fantastic job on our wedding reception. Communication was great and all the details in the planning were covered on our meetings and emails. They accommodated our requests and our reception at the Metropolitan Terrace went smoothly. Our guests enjoyed the food, which was delicious, and they all commented having had a great time with the bartender. The classic elegance of the Citizen Hotel was what we were looking for our day and we highly recommend it to everyone.
Gorgeous facility and so fun to use it’s three rooms for the day! Staff are very helpful especially their day of staff- really fantastic in solving problems and going the extra mile. The food itself is amazing - my guests kept saying how it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding. I love how this venue also does not try to overcharge you for a weekend date - when all the other venues do!
One note, their hotel rooms are not huge so if you have a bridal party of more than 4 you will need multiple get ready rooms. We had the second biggest room and with 5 people in there it was at a max. The rooms are gorgeous themselves too.
I didn't have my wedding here, but I stayed at The Citizen Hotel after my wedding at a nearby outdoor venue and all of my out of town guests stayed here. I arranged a hotel block with Lucky, the group sales manager and she was great to work with. I had a lot of last minute changes and extra nights added last minute for some of my guests and she was very flexible and helpful in adding changes for me. We also got a very reasonable rate for everyone. The hotel is very modern and beautifully designed, and our guests were impressed. It was a great place to stay during our wedding!
We just had our wedding on New Year's Eve and let me tell you, the staff at the Citizen Hotel made it the best night EVER! Starting from working with Alyson to get the rooms all situated to working with Tina to make sure the night ran with out a glitch was top notch! The staff were so on top of every detail and made the whole day so relaxing! We rented the Metropolitan Terrace for the ceremony and the reception and it turned out beautiful! If you are looking for a very glam, but intimate wedding venue I highly recommend The Citizen Hotel! You will not be disappointed! The backdrops that they have for you to take photos of, are like no other place!
The Citizen Hotel and staff were professional and attentive from the moment we walked in the door for our first meeting to review reception options, the planning, tasting, and through to the big day, to include the morning after. We cannot praise enough for Tina Marshal ( the hotel's Wedding Concierge). She is phenomenal! She has an excellent eye for detail & decor. Tina and her staff was the key to our perfect day and we cannot thank her enough!
We had our wedding on the 7th floor terrace and it was absolutely perfect! We chose a brunch wedding and the room was bright and the views are incredible. Working with Tina in the months leading up to the wedding was a dream; she was responsive, helpful, and has a fun personality. Guests at the wedding noticed how organized and thorough she was!
If we had to choose a wedding venue again, we would definitely choose the Citizen; during the planning process, we often commented that having our wedding at the Citizen, with everything that it includes, was one of our best choices, aside from choosing each other :)
We had our ceremony and reception at the Citizen Hotel. Things went perfectly for the day before and day of. No problems and things were set up exactly how we wanted them. Everything was so perfect and wonderful. We had our wedding on a Saturday with guests flying in from east coast as well as "locals". There was some room hiccups during guest check ins but the hotel made sure everything was fixed.
The wedding itself was magical. Tina, our wedding coordinator, did an amazing job. She was very helpful and tenative during the wedding planning process. We talked a lot through email but also had some in person meetings. She made sure everything went smoothly and perfect leading up to the wedding and the day of. She was a joy to work with and really made our wedding perfect.
The Sunday after our wedding was a bit challenging. The front desk doesn't seem to be comfortable handling day after wedding stuff. Although instructions were clear from the wedding coordinator and banquet captain, the front desk didn't seem to know what was going on when I requested access to the wedding staging room to retrieve my guest book and other assorted wedding items.
I would recommend the Citizen Hotel for your wedding but make sure to have a contact number of someone who is working the following day of your wedding to ensure a smooth transition of getting all your things!
VENUE: We were drawn to this venue because of its unique style and beauty. The hotel is a boutique hotel so it has its own flare that you are not going to find anywhere else. It has a vintage yet modern feel. There are so many places to get great pictures. We had our reception on the 7th floor terrace which had a panoramic view of Downtown Sacramento with the California State Capitol as the main back drop. We also booked the Governor’s suite so that we could take advantage of the beautiful balcony that overlooks the Capitol for pictures. In fact, it was Sacramento's first sky scraper; built in 1925.
FOOD: The Citizen Hotel has a restaurant inside the hotel called The Grange. It is a very popular restaurant in town known for its spectacular food. They use all fresh and locally grown ingredients. When we did our tasting it was hard to pick which dishes we wanted for the wedding because everything was so good. The chef that helped with our tasting was amazing and you could tell she is really passionate about the food she makes. Our guests raved about the food and how delicious everything was. Our favorite item on the menu was actually an appetizer, spicy chicken bites. OMG! They were so good; I hope they add it to the restaurant menu one day.
SERVICE: When we had our initial appointments at the venue we worked with Lisa a few times, she was nice. Then she left the company about five months before our wedding. I was a bit upset and worried about working with someone new. However, my worries were in vain because as soon as I met Lisa’s replacement Tina, I knew I was in great hands. Tina is amazing, she provided us with the highest level of customer service going above and beyond to make sure that everyone was taken care of before and during the wedding. She has the best personality, so friendly and genuine. One of the main things that people noticed about our wedding day was how great Tina was. Overall, Tina is a true gem and is the perfect person for her job. Couples who have their wedding at The Citizen Hotel in the future will be lucky to work with her.
The rest of the staff was also very helpful. There was a gentleman (I forgot his name) who was around a lot in the reception area that was so nice. The front desk was very accommodating to us and our guests. One girl (I cannot recall her name either) even went out looking for the days’ newspaper because the wrong one got delivered to the hotel and I wanted it for a keepsake.
OVERALL, The Citizen Hotel was honestly our favorite part of our wedding day (besides the whole getting married thing, lol). We wish we could have spent more time there and plan to do a little stay-cation there one day. I highly recommend The Citizen Hotel for a wedding, party or hotel stay. I am a pretty picky person who expects nothing but excellence (especially on my wedding day), and The Citizen Hotel exceeded my expectations! Thank you to Tina and all of the staff at The Citizen Hotel for helping to make our wedding day a perfect one.

We used the Citizen Hotel for our guest room block. The weekend of the wedding was fine and the staff at the desk were very nice. However, leading up to the wedding weekend from the time we were reserving the block we found the Citizen to be very unresponsive to our questions and requests. I continuously needed to follow up on requests especially when the link for our block was not working.
We rarely received any apologies for these inconveniences and they certainly did not do anything to make up for them which was very disappointing.
The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms are well appointed if a bit small. The views and location are very nice.
I had the most incredible wedding at the Citizen Hotel in November. Lisa was so incredibly sweet and helpful throughout the whole process. I could not have been happier with how everything turned out!
It is a cute boutique hotel with friendly staff. I highly recommend it.
Good service and nice rooms.
We had a great experience at the Citizen. Our wedding coordinator, Lisa, was extremely helpful and accommodating. Our guests love the venue. The only complaint was the temperature of the terrace at the ceremony (it seemed they forgot to turn the air on). Otherwise it was beautiful.
The Citizen has everything you could ever ask so. Beautiful venue, amazing food and their customer service goes above and beyond.
If you get married here, they will take care of everything for you. Lisa helped us on our wedding day and the planning prior to the big day. She did such an amazing job - we didn't have a single worry on our wedding day because we knew that everything was under control.
Loved everything about the Citizen, highly recommend as a wedding venue.
The Citizen is a gorgeous place to have a wedding!! I am from the east coast so this was a very different location. The staff went above and beyond and i couldnt have been more pleased.
My wedding theme was 1930s Jazz, and the Citizen was the PERFECT location. Harmony, the events coordinator was so easy to work with and so patient with me. I loved the venue!
P.S. the FOOD WAS TO DIE FOR!
The employees did everything to make sure we were happy, and the hotel is beautiful!
Loved taking photos in the lobby and out on the balcony!
The tented terrace has the perfect city loft feel and the staff there made everything perfect. At first, I was worried that I had decided not to hire a coordinator, but the coordinator is included at the Citizen and she did so much the day of and day before our wedding! Many guests stayed at the hotel, which meant they could put kids to bed and return for another hour or two of fun. The food is amazing and so many things are included that we couldn't beat the price at any other venue. Loved our Citizen wedding!
Looking for a great place in town? Look no further than the Citizen Hotel. Great location, great food, and wonderful staff. Could not be happier with my selection. They made the whole process start to finish very easy and enjoyable.
We had an amazing time at The Citizen! Our guests are still raving about the food, and loved the seated buffet. Our coordinator was amazing- she wrote back to emails quickly, and was very helpful the day of. Beautiful venue, friendly staff, great food, amazing combination!!
We recently had our wedding reception at the Citizen and had the time of our lives. Harmony and the staff were AWESOME!!! We knew the second we walked in to the hotel that it was going to be our reception spot and the food(catered by The Grange) was just icing on the cake! Our guests still comment on how delicious it was and how it was an amazing hotel with GREAT views (especially on the Terrace and Governor's suite). We wished there was an outdoor patio space, but the large windows made up for that. We opted to have our ceremony in a church, but the ballroom is very beautiful, just a bit of a tight squeeze for a large guestlist (ours was 150). If you you are just starting your venue search, you have got to check this place out. We were looking for a venue to fit our "urban luxury" theme and it did just that! This place rocks.....
Beautiful hotel. I have the pleasure of working close-by and love to come into the lobby and be amazed at what an awesome remodel job it is. They preserved it's personality and brought the building up to code. A wedding receiption here would be absolutely dreamy!
The main reason we picked this venue is because of the terrace...it is beautiful. Also, the location was convenient because majority of our guests were from out of town. However, if I had a chance to do it over, I would NOT go with the Citizen Hotel again. They are so short staffed in the catering/banquet department that even with a wonderful wedding planner it was a nightmare to deal with them. I had to send 2-3 emails and 2-3 voice messages to get a response. Communication is the main problem there and it is something they definitely need to work on.
We love the Citizen! The location is perfect. The decor was everything we wanted. The food was fantastic (despite not being what we ordered!). Our wedding was gorgeous. The drawback... terrible event coordination service! Thank goodness we have an amazing wedding planner to make it all happen! If you have a planner, the Citizen rocks! If you don't have a planner... be prepared for undue stress, cost and disappointment.
