I was a bit worried working with Spurwing because the event coordinator changed a few times on me, but it ended up being a fantastic and beautiful event!
The space is absolutely gorgeous and very versatile. We rented the entire clubhouse which was really helpful, especially in COVID times, so we could have a lot of extra space so people could spread out more. We utilized the Gold Tea Room as the more relaxed, quieter space and the Sandtrap Lounge as the party space. We also used the boardroom as a separate kid space and hired childcare workers for that room and it was awesome to have a separate space for kids to be kids.
The best things about this location are:
1. The space itself. It is large and gorgeous so not a lot of decorating is needed.
2. The provided staff. The bartenders, servers, and Alex, the event manager, did a great job in keeping things running smoothly. While communication was sparse for a while early on, Alex was very attentive to our requests in the last 3 months before the wedding and nothing big was missed.
3. In-house catering is so helpful. One less vendor to worry about! The food didn't blow me away, but it was fine. Definitely get the coconut chicken skewers, though! We had them for an after-dinner snack and it was perfect!
4. They were extremely accommodating regarding dietary requests. They provided separate options for people as well as allowed guests to not get a meal. There's enough variety and allergy considerations were clear on the menu so it was very easy for me to make sure everyone had something they could eat. They also did a great job of making sure the venue was a nut-free event for us since we had multiple guests with nut allergies (with the exception of a trail mix dispenser that appears to always be there, but we just told guests not to touch it).
A downside of the venue is that it does not come with audio services so a DJ needs to be hired. We used Johnny B's Entertainment and had Pete and he did fantastic! Alex did great as the event manager, but keep in mind that you will want to hire someone to do the setup of your decor because the venue handles the things that they own, but not the things that you bring in. Another downside is that the space they advertise as the "groom's suite" is not a private space, it is still open to the club members. It says that in the contract so it isn't a surprise, but I was discouraged from using that space. However, the bathrooms are FANTASTIC so they absolutely make up for it. Of course you need to be considerate and not take over the whole bathroom, but it was such a beautiful space that it was actually great for getting ready photos!
Be sure to read your contract carefully as there is a service fee in addition to an added gratuity! This is great because it means you don't need to calculate tips yourself, but it could be a surprise if you weren't expecting it. You also can't do flower petals of any kind so prepare for no flower girl or for them to do something else like ribbon wands or signs.
Overall, I really felt like this was a great event space and the best choice we could have made for our event. I'm very glad that we found it and were able to use Spurwing and I do recommend it for your next event!
