Growing up in Kennebunkport we had high expectations for our wedding at The Colony. Of course, the venue speaks for itself as the perfect backdrop for any wedding. No one will question that The Colony offers the best grounds and views for a wedding held in Kennebunkport. Our wedding was ~130 people and the lawn (ceremony), front porch (cocktail hour), and ballroom (reception) were all great spaces for our guests. Our wedding day far exceeded our expectations and was truly a magical day for us, our family, and our friends.
What truly set this experience apart was our wedding coordinator, Nicole. Her dedication, creativity, and organization made the planning process seamless and enjoyable. She went above and beyond to ensure every detail was tailored to our vision. On the big day, we felt well prepared, and Nicole orchestrated everything flawlessly, allowing us to focus on enjoying each moment without any stress. We cannot thank her enough for the work put in to making the day perfect!
Also of note, the food and drinks were exceptional, and we still have friends and family raving about the meal several months after the event (we went with the buffet option).
We will happily recommend The Colony to anyone looking to have their special day in southern Maine!
The view alone makes this venue an outstanding destination for a wedding! Add to that an amazing wedding coordinator, excellent support staff, amazing food and you have a memorable event for a marriage or any other group event!
Based on previous reviews of weddings at the Colony, we lowered our expectations for wedding day but stuck with the venue as it is stunning, large enough for all of our guests, and in our preferred location of Kennebunkport. Our wedding exceeded expectations and was PERFECT, other than the cloudy day.
Nicole is the best! Since we started planning over a year ago, there have been three different wedding coordinators at the Colony and we are SO grateful that Nicole was the one with us in the final months and on our day. She really executed every little detail of our day to make it perfect. Nicole provided such great insight and recommendations, a testament to her years of experience. The Colony is lucky to have her!
Of course we could not have had such an amazing wedding weekend without the wonderful staff at the Colony. We are seriously blown away by all of the hotel staff and the staff on the day of, they were extremely prompt, professional, and helpful to make our vision come alive and stick to our requested timeline.
The chef and kitchen staff were able to serve 190 entrees in 20 minutes, incredible! The food was also delicious, we received several compliments about the appetizers, entrees, late night food, and morning after breakfast.
Most of our guests stayed at the Colony and found the rooms lovely and comfortable. The new Coveside rooms provided a great option for guests seeking more modern accommodations.
We had our rehearsal dinner and welcome party for our wedding at the Colony last year and are so happy we did. The venue itself is beautiful and a wonderful location to welcome guests to Kennebunkport.
We planned the event with Heather and her team, who were very professional and pleasant to work with. We highly recommend working with them! They helped us coordinate where at Colony to host the events, when to host them, what decorations to have, and what food and drinks to have. We had a few guests with food allergies and dietary restrictions, and they were very respectful and accommodating of that, which we greatly appreciated.
At the rehearsal dinner, we had a buffet, and at the welcome party we had passed hors d'oeuvres. All was delicious! And the staff who worked the event were great, as well.
Thank you!
My son got married at The Colony Inn and I can’t say enough good things about our experience. When we first started the process, we were dealing with Samantha. We got notice that she had moved on. We immediately got notice from Mat that he was taking over. He took charge are reassured us we were in good hands. To say this guy went above and beyond is an understatement. We met with him and he showed me where the ceremony would be, where the tables would be set up, where the bride and groom would sit. Every single detail was covered! We were putting bows on the back of the chairs. They were not staying up. I asked Mat if he had any double sided tape or something like that. He checked in his office and he didn’t. He actually said I can run out and get you some. I’m like really? Are you kidding me? We ended up using a different design, but was blown away that he would have done that! Then the day of the wedding. He directed all of us where to go and gave us our cues when to walk down the aisle. After the ceremony, we had some rose petals left over from the flower girl. He asked if he could have them. He spread them out on the table where the cake was. It was a beautiful touch. I never would have thought to do that. The next day we had leftover flowers from the center pieces. He asked if we wanted them. He said he likes to give them to his staff. I said by all means. The staff were all so attentive and amazing. It’s these little things that was so special. I’ve worked in customer service and can’t say enough about Mat! He really really took care of every single detail for us. I would highly recommend The Colony inn for your wedding. The Colony should be proud to have a valuable employee like Mat! Thank you again for making their special day the fairy tale wedding they hoped for.❤️❤️❤️❤️
After reading all the reviews from past customers/guests at the Hotel about their wedding experience..I feel SOO bad they didn't get to experience Mat who is the NEWWW Wedding Sales rep at that hotel.
Mat was professional, communicated well via text, calls and emails and always remained calm but excited for us. Mat gave us a ton of reassurance with his confidence, wedding experience ( he did 20 last year!) and best of all ..our best interest at heart.
He went ABOVE and BEYOND for us including every single detail was well thought out (he even busted tables with this wait staff and always seemed ready to work hard). He had a whole wedding day (schedule) planned out for us, he made sure our guests were comfortable and made sure we had a memorable moment.
Mat I truly can't thank you enough for being there for us by genuinely caring. The Colony Hotel is SO so lucky to have you.
The hotel is charming, antique and heavenly...
Thank you Mat!
The Colony was absolutely awful. Reading a lot of the reviews for summer 2022 weddings, we could not agree more with the sentiment.
The Good:
- The staff was phenomenal. Incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. They were a complete blast during the welcome party reception the night before and the wedding. This is with the notable exception of the check-in staff.
- The location is gorgeous. The scenery, and old-school New England charm, are wonderful. The rooms are a bit dated, but overall, they’re in a fantastic location and building.
- The food and drink package was pretty solid. We’ll get to the pricing in the bad section, but the food quality was surprisingly good and the drinks/bar selection was better than expected.
The Bad:
- Some of the most awful management I’ve ever seen. When we booked the hotel, Caite seemed super on top of things, well-sorted, and had a lot of experience planning. We discussed numerous things such as bringing in our own chairs, after-party logistics, pricing expectations, etc., that were completely not honored by the hotel after her departure. We actively didn’t book a day-of planner (which was in hindsight a huge mistake) due to Caite’s promises.
- After Caite departed, we heard absolutely nothing from management for a period of months. Mgmt kept telling us “the wedding coordinator is out right now” via an automated email. I heard from another vendor about Caite’s departure which was completely unprofessional, and by the time we heard there were virtually no day-of planners available to book.
- The ownership/management is laughable. These guys are completely clueless, don’t care about the couples, and often ducked calls/lied to us. Construction was the big one - it was an active excavation site across the street, and we were told numerous times construction would be wrapped up before our wedding.
- Crystal is sweet, kind, and truthfully tried her hardest, but just doesn’t have the skillset to execute this role well. She got put in a terrible situation by management and was given zero resources to help her execute. She was a terrible communicator (largely due to her bandwidth being stretched), but regardless we had a very hard time keeping in touch with her.
- The hotel nickeled and dimed us whenever they could. $200 for this, $500 for that. Extremely short-sighted considering the overall cost of the wedding plus 100 guests who booked rooms for the weekend. Made us feel really awful that a lot of things we would have expected to be included (e.g. dress hanger in the bridal suite, chairs for hair/makeup in the bridal suite) were all additional costs. They also re-priced all of our food for our cocktail hour and appetizers up by 20%, 45 days before the wedding, which was completely contrary to the spirit of the contract and a ridiculous move to do so close to the event.
Overall would not recommend the Colony for a wedding. While we have amazing memories of the day with our friends and family, the overall stress of working with such a garbage management team was not worth it.
Planning our wedding at The Colony hotel was disastrous.. The management of this hotel is laughable. It truly is disappointing because the venue is so beautiful and the hotel has so much potential (hence why we chose this location).
Nobody on the management team at The Colony Hotel has any idea whats going on. This is a general overview of just a few of the issues we faced while wedding planning:
- Waited weeks to reply to emails. At one point we waited over a month with multiple follow up emails.
- Pricing is nothing what it looks like on the website. They nickel and dimed us for every single item. NOTHING is included in the package and nowhere is that stated. You want a podium for speeches? That's an additional $200 etc.
- They double booked us with another event (I found this out on the AM of my wedding....). They will host multiple events on one day even though they say they don't.
- They put on a show for you to try and impress you, but in a dishonest way.
Example #1: The Prosecco they serve at the menu tasting is not actually the Prosecco they serve at the wedding.
Example #2 we were told "The construction will be done and the new space will be perfect for your guests to park etc. " Turns out there was no parking for our guests day of and the road was dug up with trucks and dumpsters everywhere.. not to mention the dust flying around.
You need to ask obvious/ dumb questions because if you don't you will get taken advantage of (re: Prosecco incident above).
Overall, planning a wedding at The Colony Hotel was incredibly stressful. We were treated so poorly at times we discussed changing our venue. I truly have never dealt with adults like this. It was like trying to reason with a child when we were the customer. It was baffling. We felt as though we were taken advantage of, even though we had spent over $50k at The Colony Hotel. As a side note- the staff at the front desk were extremely rude to our guests.. we were mortified.
On the bright side, the servers, chefs, bell hops, bar tenders etc were 11/10. They were incredible and we have nothing bad to say about them at all. They are the people who made our day what it was. Any concerns we had the day of were directed right to them. Our day ended up being amazing (which is why we gave the two stars) but we are so turned off by our experience that we have zero desire to even go back.
Save yourself the headache and money and book elsewhere in town. We had quotes from other hotels in town (you can rent the entire hotel for a weekend) and it would have been cheaper than our bill at The Colony with the hidden line items.
I am so torn writing this review. If you had asked me before my wedding if I would’ve recommended the Colony for your wedding it would’ve been without a doubt a resounding no. However, my wedding weekend was absolutely perfect and that is the only reason that they are getting the 3 stars. The Colony was my dream spot to get married since the first time I went to Kennebunkport years ago. They have an unreal set up and they know it. Unfortunately, their management is horrendous. The hotel is incredibly mismanaged and throughout the process made us feel undervalued and taken advantage of. We had a two year engagement and booked the Colony immediately. When we booked Caite was the coordinator. However, shortly after that Caite left the Colony. We had confidence that this luxury resort and venue would find a suitablereplacement. That was not the case. The hotel hired Crystal as the new coordinator, someone with zero experience in wedding coordination. As nice as Crystal is, that cannot make up for the mismanagement . The hotel threw her into a dumpster fire with a glass of water and said good luck! Crystal simply did not have the support required for her to succeed and I am sure she took the brunt of the distress that came from the mismanagement in the 2022 season. There was upcharging and just complete lack of communication between management, Crystal, and us leading up to the wedding. It added stress to an already stressful process. Had I not hired my own wedding coordinator I don’t know what would’ve happened. Additionally, when we arrived for our tasting in May (our wedding was in September) we arrived to find the hotel was a construction site. Thankfully, our wedding was still a few months away, but how had no one from the hotel thought to mention to us or anyone that the hotel was undergoing construction? Given the amount of planning that must have went into that project it seems laughable to not give people paying $50K+ for an event a heads up. Further, we were reassured by several people in management that the construction would be completed prior to our wedding - it was not. Again, I cannot imagine what weddings earlier that year experienced compared to us where the construction was at least more limited than what we saw in May.
The bottom line here is that the spot - the beach, the porch, the property, and the hotel itself is a moment. It is so beautiful and truly was the home base for our entire wedding weekend. The chef, servers, bartenders, waiters, and bell hops, were outstanding. They make the experience what it is. However, management needs to get its act together! They are hurting their bottom line and their reputation. With the right management, the Colony could truly be what it advertises itself to be: a luxury resort for your wedding. With its current management, it is performing at less than half its true potential and planning your wedding with them is a needlessly stressful experience. If they are going to charge you for every single thing and nickel and dime you the whole way you could at least be getting treated with respect and the service that a venue of that caliber requires.
I can’t say I wouldn’t recommend you having your wedding there because of its beauty and potential, but I will tell you, outside of my wedding day and the tasting, I have never paid more money to feel more stressed and under appreciated in my entire life. If you do go with them, hire your own wedding coordinator! That is the only way!
Terrible, don’t do it. The hotel is gorgeous but unfortunately mismanaged by ownership. The managers have the mindset of running a Motel 8, unqualified for what should be a 5 star stay for the price . They greet you with a rude and overall tired attitude.
The staff working as bar tenders and servers are amazing. Front desk is not. Also, Hotel is historic, bugs, pool falling apart. Would be worth if they had the right people.
The colony was recommended to us by several local friends and we immediately fell in love with it and knew it was where we wanted to get married. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that that would not be possible as the staff were completely non-responsive and it seemed a burden to them to work with us. We visited in person and spoke to the staff in charge of room reservations (which were very important to us since it is a resort) who first told us that she couldn't speak with us until we had a signed contract (we of course wanted to make sure our guests could stay at the resort before booking) and then finally told us that between current guests booking a year out and corporate events that they were very busy but she couldn't say anything more without a contract. Despite this, we still attempted to sign a contract that day but were told by the wedding planner that she was too busy and we would have to be patient...she gave away our date 4 days later while I waited for her to respond to an email. Needless to say while an absolutely stunning venue, we decided it wasn't worth the headache and planned our wedding elsewhere.
We had a mixed experience with The Colony Hotel as our wedding venue. The location was gorgeous, we enjoyed staying the weekend here. The staff that assisted with the reception was also wonderful and attentive. That said, there was a lot of disorganization during the planning and payment process. There were a few times we needed assistance with something on our wedding day and could not find anyone to speak with. The hotel reservations are also separate from the event planning and they don't really communicate with each other. This messed up some of our guests room reservations, forcing some to even stay at other hotels over the weekend. Because of this, our room block was not filled and we were forced to pay for some empty rooms.
Overall we had a wonderful time and it was a day that we will never forget, but there were a few frustrations due to organization.
Our experience at the Colony hotel was really special but I couldn't talk about the venue without talking about Caite. She really was the best from beginning to end. She was always available for questions, concerns or just about anything leading up to the wedding day. She made planning a COVID wedding as simple as it could get. She had a list of spectacular vendors and had a vision for the big day from the very beginning. When it came to the wedding weekend, Caite and the staff really did an amazing job at welcoming our family and friends and making our weekend as special as possible. When it came to last minute change of the rehearsal dinner due to weather, they handled it perfectly without causing us any stress at all. On the wedding day, Caite did an amazing job at keeping on schedule without it feeling rushed and she also has spectacular communication with the vendors which was part of the reason why everything went so smoothly. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding venue and we, as well as all of our guests, were in awe with the Colony hotel. When it came to food, there was absolutely no complaints. The chowder lives up to the hype and definitely worth the trip. We are just waiting for any excuse to go back to the Colony.
Our overall experience with the Colony Hotel is mixed. When we walked into the lobby and looked out at the ocean, we knew that we wanted to get married there. Laura, the event coordinator at the time we booked, was organized, knowledgeable, and really sold us on the hotel’s capability to handle a 175 person wedding. Soon after booking, we realized Laura had left after trying to get in contact with the hotel to make a second payment. Over the 15 months between booking and having our wedding, we dealt with 5 event coordinators. Each time a new coordinator came on they were overwhelmed and needed to be brought up to speed on all of the details of our wedding again. Many details were lost during the turnover, etc. and it was very frustrating to call/email and get new people with limited information. Additionally, in the 60 days leading up to the wedding, we had very inconsistent contact (emails going unanswered for 14 days). We were so concerned about the hotel’s ability to pull off our event that we hired a day of coordinator (which I would HIGHLY recommend). Ultimately, we worked with the Colony event coordinator Caite (who I hope is still there!) who tried her absolute best to learn the details promised to us by previous coordinators. The actual day went off with minimal issues (keep in mind we had the day-of coordinator as well as Caite helping to take care of moving items and people). The final bill was incorrect and confusing, many rental chair cushions were missing when the rental company picked them up, and the hotel will not waive any fees for all of your inconveniences. The positives were as follows: the staff in the grand dining room was fabulous and attentive, all of the food was delicious, hot, and came out on time, the location and charm of the hotel. I hope the Colony can keep an event coordinator long enough to get organized and familiar with how things work so that they can provide their couples with accurate information and consistent communication. Overall, we had an amazing and beautiful wedding at the Colony, but we feel that many things could be improved for future couples.
This venue has gone through 3 different wedding planners since the signing of our contract. The owner is absentee and the communication is awful and unprofessional. This entire process has been nothing but a nightmare. To top it all off, I was just notified by one of our vendors that we are now getting a FOURTH wedding planner at the venue. They saw the job posting on a wedding vendor forum and knew the struggles his brides have been having with this venue. I would avoid visiting The Colony until they are able to figure out how to properly run a wedding venue. We are genuinely terrified at what our wedding will look like on the day of. I wonder how many more planners we will have to go through until 2020?
Extremely disappointed -- we had booked the Colony Hotel for our wedding on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend 8 months in advance of our date. Due to unforeseen family circumstances involving an elderly relative, we had to cancel the date only weeks after our original reservation. We had placed a $6,000+ deposit and our Colony representative gave us comfort that the money would be returned once the Colony rebooks the date. Given the now 7 months of lead-time and popularity of the weekend, she was optimistic. She then resigned from the Colony and was replaced by someone else who, almost two months later, explained that she was taking over for the original representative and asked if she should be taking the wedding off the books? We were surprised and frustrated, as we lost time for the sales team to rebook the wedding after we clearly had canceled in writing. She then ghosted us for four attempts until we had to google how to get to the General Manager. He wasn't any better, it took a follow-up email on top of my original email to ever get a response, and this pattern continued for another two back and forths. He callously explained that we aren't getting the $6,000 back, that he wouldn't even allow it to be used as a credit to stay on the property and that his sales team wasn't able to rebook the date over that seven month gap. Our family matter, nor his internal turnover and miscommunication didn't matter one bit. What did matter was pocketing an extra $6,000 from us even though the Colony incurred no costs on a wedding cancelled so far in advance that never even happened. You would perhaps expect this behavior from a big city venue, not from a folksy "quaint Maine hotel". While we did sign a contract before our family emergency, you would have hoped for some semblance of compassion. An unprofessional, apathetic and very disappointing experience. This story will be told many times over to provide warning for what you could potentially be getting involved with.
The Colony Hotel has always been where we wanted to have our wedding. We booked our wedding in October of 2017 and by 2018, there was a new wedding planner in charge of our wedding. My husband and I were worried that, Charlotte the new wedding planner, would have trouble keeping up her first year doing weddings at the hotel and we would need to re-explain our plans. When we expressed our concern, she immediately responded and met with us at a time that was convenient for us. We were floored with the amount of information she already knew about us and our wedding and how committed she was to making our day the best ever. She even gave my handicapped grandmother a tour of the hotel before it opened for the season. The wedding was perfect and it would not have been possible without Charlotte directing. She didn't skip a beat despite coming into the job so recently. Thank you for an amazing day!
Where to begin! If you're looking for the perfect coastal Maine wedding, your search stops here at the Colony. We had a year and a half engagement and first saw the Colony in the dead of January. Even with the hotel closed and the heat shut off, the views of the ocean and imagining the historic hotel in all of it's summertime glory really sold us. It turned out to be better than we even imagined. I worked with Laura for the first year or so, and she was great. Then I received an email that Laura was no longer working at the Colony and Charlotte Callahan introduced herself. I was a little bit nervous at first because the switch was made only a few months before the wedding, but I cannot say enough about Charlotte. She was incredibly responsive to the many emails myself, my mom and my husband's mom sent her. She was relaxed and easy going but still organized. She learned the ropes quickly in her new position, and it seemed like she had been at the Colony for years. We did our entire wedding weekend at the Colony because it was important to us that once our guests got to their location, no one had to deal with the hassle of moving from one place to another. From the lobster bake rehearsal to the sweeping ocean view at the ceremony to our epic dance party and food (guests raved about the sirloin) at the reception, everything turned out exactly how we wanted it. The ceremony site is the ultimate selling point. Beautifully overlooking the ocean with flowers all around. I was skeptical of the corner pool area overlooking the ceremony site but it turned out not to be an issue at all. I didn't even notice if anyone was up there watching, and if they were, they were extremely respectful of the ceremony going on down below. If the Colony is on your list of venues to check out, make sure it's at the top. I promise you, you won't be disappointed! We will be back to visit for many anniversaries to come!
I cannot say enough about how wonderful it was to have my daughter's wedding at the Colony. From the beginning of our planning to the end, Laura was extremely helpful, showing my husband and me everything about the hotel and places where things would take place. When I was confused, she was organized, right through from the beginning to the end of the wedding. She answered all the questions I had about the hotel and everything else that goes into a wedding. The site was beautiful, the day was beautiful and everything went off perfectly. Many of my guests commented that the hors d'oeuvres were the best they ever had. Dinner was excellent and the staff was fun and helpful. I cannot recommend them enough.
The Colony Hotel gave my husband and I the fairytale wedding we had always dreamt of. Laura was next level - everything she did for the year of planning we had was to perfection. She is so helpful and made sure everything was flawless.
The setting was stunning and the weather was perfect - many guests said it was the most beautiful place they had EVER been for a wedding!! Our families had an amazing time as well. The food, staff, setting, etc exceeded all of our expectations. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to get married at the Colony - it will forever be a special, magical place to return to for the rest of our lives.
Thank you so much!!!! xoxoxoxo
The Colony was everything I ever dreamed in a wedding. We got married on June 11, 2017 and it was the best day of our lives! Laura was one of the best people I have ever met, and she made the day go so smooth. We contacted her a year ahead of time, and the communication did not stop until the wedding day. She was truly a godsend. Everything was so well coordinated between the front desk and the wedding staff that we did not have to worry about anything. We will definitely be back to visit and I highly recommend The Colony to anyone looking for venues!!
Where do I even begin! Laura Lavigne made our wedding at The Colony a dream, executing it to perfection! From the moment we met her in February 2016, between hundreds of emails up until our wedding day on June 10 2017, she was so accommodating, polite, organized, and kind! Even while dealing with a very Type-A, overly-organized bride, Laura was nothing but gracious. Consider yourself well-taken-care-of and relaxed if you get to work with Laura. She managed all of our vendors on wedding day, ensured everything was set up like we had discussed, and the bridal party and I sat back and enjoyed our wedding morning. Our guests were flabbergasted with this beautiful venue. We had guests coming in from all over the country, and we got nonstop compliments about how gorgeous the property and wedding was. Honestly, The Colony's website needs to be updated because it doesn't nearly do this place justice! The breathtaking ocean views, family games, heated pool, champagne upon check-in, incredible staff, delicious full-buffet breakfast each morning, well-kept gardens, organized ceremony/ reception/ bar staff, quaint New England rooms, are ALL just amazing! The Colony even catered to our dog (ringbearer) and brought him water bowls wherever we went. The rooms are clean and quaint, we loved our Ocean View King for our wedding. The staff even left us a plate of our wedding cupcakes in our room with a handwritten note on our wedding night, which was so thoughtful! Wedding cake for breakfast was the best. For cocktail hour the servers passed around our "signature drinks" to decrease lines at the bar; the bridal party had their own server, Laura set aside a banquet room for the bridal party to rest in before the ceremony, having a champagne toast ready for us as soon as the ceremony was finished... they truly thought of it all and it felt SO special. Jordan was wonderful as well, helping us pack up our car after the wedding, and being so generous in leading our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception! The food was hot, SO delicious, and well-liked by our wedding guests. 2 weeks later and our family and friends still can't stop raving about what an incredible weekend it was. I highly recommend The Colony Hotel for ceremony and reception! (we even hosted our rehearsal dinner there). The only downside to our day was that I suggest extending the reception (9pm came SO fast), and that the after-party pizza we had in the Marine Room was not that great. Other than that, I am the happiest bride! We will treasure the memories forever, and we plan on visiting The Colony every year! Thank you SO much to Laura, Jordan, and the staff at The Colony!!!
The Colony Hotel was the PERFECT venue for our wedding!! It was so gorgeous and the staff was sooo helpful to make the day perfect!! We got so many compliments from guests about the hotel and the hotel food!!
The Colony Hotel was THE perfect venue. We had a lot of guests coming from out of town so it was important to us to have a place where our guests could stay and a place that would give them a true picture of Maine's beauty. The hotel is old-time elegance - don't be fooled by the pictures on their website which are not very good. The grand ballroom is a warm, rich room with low ceilings. It provides and intimate environment (even for 175 guests) so no one feels like they've been put in the reject corner. The view from the hotel and the ballroom is just stunning - our guests were raving about it from the moment they checked in! The coordinators are attentive, honest, and so easy to work with. All of the other hotel staff are just as great - from the front desk staff, to the wait-staff and bartenders - they were all fantastic. And then there was the food...it's impeccable. The tasting was a total disappointment compared to what they delivered at our actual wedding. The hors d’oeuvres were flawless, the lobster was perfectly cooked, and each course was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I can’t thank them enough for making our wedding even better than I anticipated. Highly recommend it!
We celebrated our wedding reception at The Colony in September 2016 and had the most amazing experience! The Colony is the perfect setting for a coastal/seaside Maine wedding. Cocktail hour out on the ocean porch followed by dinner and dancing in the Grand Dining Room cannot be beat. The service was absolutely amazing - all of the staff went above and beyond to make our guests feel so welcomed. From the passed signature drinks at cocktail hour, to the plated dinner service, and the late night lobster rolls, all went without a hitch! The food at The Colony is equally as amazing as the service (no "wedding food" here!)- the plated dinner of filet and lobster tail was outstanding. Our guests cannot stop talking about it all! Laura Lavigne, the event coordinator, is wonderful to work with. She puts in so much attention to detail and was such a pleasure to plan with. She ensured our day was executed flawlessly and we couldn't have been happier. We highly recommend The Colony!!!
We had such a great experience having our Memorial Day weekend wedding at The Colony! Laura was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. We had a long engagement so we were in contact for quite a bit of time and she was always very helpful and answered any of our questions. Our guests were extremely pleased with our wedding and I'm still getting compliment on the way the venue looked as well as the food. We had an amazing time and I'm so happy we chose The Colony as the place to have our wedding reception.
I would recommend The Colony to anyone wanting to get married in Maine. Many of our guests said that it was the most beautiful venue they had ever seen, and had the best food. Laura, the wedding coordinator, did an incredible job at making sure that everything ran smoothly, and she was so easy to get in touch with in the months leading up to the wedding. We ended up with last minute rain and Laura made sure that everything was moved inside and our ceremony still happened on time. We loved having a venue where we could have the ceremony, reception, and a place for our guests to stay under one roof, and it doesn't get any more quintessentially Maine than the Colony. We could not have been happier with our experience!
I can't believe we never wrote a review on here from our wedding last June!! We had the most amazing experience at The Colony planning our wedding with Laura and enjoying our stay that weekend. The food and service was top notch and the views and grounds were breathtaking. I never felt stressed or worried about a thing when dealing with Laura and the team at The Colony. They had an answer to everything, were incredibly detail oriented and truly made our dream wedding become reality. Our family and friends kept saying it was the best wedding they had ever been to and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I would HIGHLY recommend The Colony for not just a wedding but an incredible stay on the ocean in beautiful Kennebunkport. Thank you SO much!!!!
The Colony is picturesque for a wedding. Laura is unbelievable to work with! She is incredibly organized and thoughtful and such a pleasure to work with. I couldn't name a better venue--The Colony is the total package.
We spent a good chunk of money, but not as much as we could have elsewhere... and we got EVERYTHING we could have asked for. The wedding coordinator is SO wonderful, the venue is beautiful, and for what you get, the cost is right.
We had our wedding in mid August. The weather was outstanding. The coordinator was very helpful. All of our guests were very impressed. The food was truly excellent.
Fairy tale wedding. Attention to every detail. Laura, the event coordinator was amazing and flexible. Made sure everything was perfect the whole weekend! Only complaints are that the hotel does not have handicap rooms, they require a 2 night minimum, and we wished the reception could have gone a little later than 9. Thank goodness the staff kept the Marine Lounge open way past closing time for our guests to continue the party! The hotel was spotless, beautifully decorated and the breakfasts were fantastic!
The moment we walked into the Colony Hotel when we were searching for a wedding venue a year ago, we knew this was the place for us. It really is the quintessential New England old world seaside resort hotel, with expansive porches & large windows to enjoy the sweeping sea views. The experience we had with our wedding there this fall was absolutely perfect, thanks to Christian McCrory & the fantastic staff at the hotel. Christian was a pleasure to work with from the start, always promptly responding to any questions or concerns I had, and making the entire process of wedding planning easy and stress free. The day of our wedding, I didn't have to worry about a thing, he handled any issues that came up, and as sweet as he is, was a bulldog for us when he needed to be. Everything ran so smoothly, and we were able to just relax and enjoy the day and the entire experience. The ceremony site and the ballroom are both absolutely beautiful, and our food that day was delicious. The resounding response from our guests was "Best wedding ever!" and although I'm probably a little partial, I completely agree :)
My husband and I just got married at The Colony Hotel a few weeks ago. The service was impeccable. The onsite wedding coordinator Christian was AMAZING! He was there for us every step of the way. I emailed him with a question almost every week towards the end and he always answered promptly. At the end of the night he bought us a shot and we all took it together! The site itself is amazing. It actually rained on our wedding day and the staff didn't skip a beat they immediately brought everything inside and there was a beautiful space available for the wedding. The food was to die for. People keep coming up to us to compliment our wedding and one of the first things they say is how good the food was. I would eat there everyday if I could afford it! The price was also pretty reasonable considering how much you get. My husband and I paid for the majority of our wedding ourselves and we couldn't find a better deal anywhere else. It is literally the perfect venue for a coastal wedding in southern Maine. I would recommend it to anyone for a wedding and even for a weekend getaway!
The location is beautiful and they staff were AMAZING! The on-site event manager made sure everything went smoothly. The pricing for the location and service was not bad!
my costs included dinner, ceremony location, cocktail hour bar, bar for dinner, room for the night of the wedding, and a 1-year anniversary dinner
The Colony Hotel is beautiful and the grounds are amazing for an outdoor wedding. The staff I would rate was 75% great while the other 25% was yuck. The Sales Manager, Sonja M., was not warm and or compassionate. She was all about business and that truly annoyed me. Christian M., the other Sales Manager on the other hand was wonderful. He took care of every question/concern/change I had with a positive attitude and was heartfelt. A few of the wait staff were rude but overall we enjoyed the staff who we saw the whole extended weekend we were there. It was difficult to enjoy the evening as the Hotel bar closes early and you can only socialize in the main room due to noise levels but the night staff was great and we enjoyed the front desk lady immensely as she was funny and personable. The food we had at both our rehearsal dinner and reception was EXCELLENT! Everything was delicious and we were truly impressed. The cleanliness of the Hotel was also great! Our room/bathroom, grounds, etc. was always picture perfect! Overall my husband, friends, and family enjoyed ourselves and The Colony Hotel.
The Colony was amazing! Extremely attentive during the entire process. The event planning team made sure that the entire day was all I wanted it to be and more. The food was unbelievable and all of our guests had an amazing time. There are 2 reasons that I did not give them 5 stars. 1) The three course meal took over 2 hours to be served because of how many guests we had and due to the required 9pm end time, we only got a little over one hour of dancing in. We still had a blast, I just wish we had some more time. 2) The hotel reservations are completely separate from the event planning and they don't really communicate with each other. It made it tough when planning out the welcome bags for guests. The reservationist also messed up some of my guests room reservations (including my grandmothers) which forced them to stay at other hotels over the weekend.
Other than those two, somewhat minor, issues, we had a wonderful time and it was a day that we will never forgot
This is an AMAZING place to have a wedding. From the food to the view everything was great. The staff at The Colony was also spectacular and did a great job of hosting our day the way we wanted. Our guests had a great weekend relaxing by the saltwater pool, shopping around town, and just enjoying the sites of Kennebunkport. Every guest was impressed with the food and the charm of the Grand Dining Room. The view from the room can't be beat as you watch the sun set over the ocean. The ceremony space was also great and over looked passing sailboats in the ocean. My only complaint is that the night had to end. I would like to note that my husband and I are from Boston and so weren't most of our guests, and the Colony is only an hour and a half from our hometown. So for those of you looking for a not too far away but not too close wedding spot, this is it.
We had our wedding reception here on October 15, 2011 and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and there was more than anyone could ever eat, the staff was friendly and so helpful with everything. We had a great time and our guest could not stop complementing the staff and the venue (some even sent notes to the staff in thanking them for such a great time. Only down side is they are not open all year and all event must end by 9pm.
The planning stage with the Colony hotel was fantastic. They listened to and accommodated any request we made. The of the wedding until the very end I could not say enough about them. So our parting with the hotel is very bitter sweet. They had been so stellar and then it was like they got our money and would have nothing to do with us.
The disappointing parts were they stuck the bride and grooms parents in rooms over looking the dumpsters. They upgraded us (bonus), but through poor communication charged us a much higher rate than we had planned for. Through the planning process they told us they had strict rules about what time the reception would end, but not to worry wedding parties headed to Federal Jack's. We rented a bus and when we arrived at Federal Jacks nearly everyone in our group was turned away because they were requesting two forms of ID and wouldn't minors with parents and anyone holding a foreign passport at the door. It was so mortifying and disappointing. We had turn around with 70 people when we got back to the hotel and told them what happened their reaction was far from the one we had experienced during the wedding. They basically told us tough luck. They told us they couldn't give us any special treatment, they treated every guest the same. After I started to cry I think they started to realize the situation, but still did little and told us that the head of events would be in the next morning to speak with us. We never heard from anyone. I would recommend the hotel, but I would want other brides to know what to watch out for when dealing with their management. Everyone under a management level was FANTASTIC.
You need to have your wedding at the Colony hotel.
Sonja & Pam are the best people you can work with. They answer all the questions you have and offer helpful suggestions along the way. They came to the rescue with a mistake my florist made. The view is breath taking and every guest couldn’t believe the atmosphere. For the foodies out there you can’t find a better place everyone LOVED the food even my 90 pound bridesmaid ate two plates.
