The Eastern is highly praised by reviewers for its beautiful space, customizable options, and excellent service. Guests enjoyed the ample free parking, open layout, and friendly bartenders. The venue's adaptability for different types of events, including indoor and outdoor options with natural lighting, was appreciated. Despite some limitations like small bathrooms and lack of private spaces for the wedding party, the venue's unique location in Detroit's Eastern Market and accommodating staff, particularly event manager Emily Chambers, left a positive impression on couples who hosted their weddings there.Review photos

We had our 6/1/24 wedding at the Eastern. The space is beautiful and you can really create any vision you want there. Communication was good. Location is perfect. Plenty of free self parking right outside. All of my guests had a great time and complimented the space. The bar staff were wonderful. Also, heard great things about bartenders from our guests.
Downside: There is no private space for wedding party. It is one big open room and that is it. Bathrooms are small, but we didn’t have any issues. Yes, the booking cost seems low when you’re first shopping around for a venue, but you can end up spending more by getting all vendors separate. So keep that in mind.
We had our wedding reception here in October and I can’t recommend it enough. Great location, with a beautiful inside area, an outside patio area, and beautiful architecture, plenty of parking. It was my dream venue and I’m in love with it. You can really make it into anything you want! Emily, the main contact, is very knowledgeable and was so helpful the entire way through. They also work with a lot of great vendors that they recommend to you. I couldn’t recommend it enough!

Thank you so much this review! Let us know if there is anything we could do to get this review a 5-star!
We are so happy we picked The Eastern for our wedding! The venue is just gorgeous and we loved how we were able to really make it our own. We got compliments from guests all night on how unique and cool the venue was. They kept asking how we found it! Also, the bartenders and their service is 10/10. Went above and beyond and make excellent drinks. Thank you!
Any questions?
We had a WONDERFUL wedding in this space - we were really looking for a blank space after our first venue had a structural issue. Everything was straightforward and spelled out. Bartenders were really friendly, ample parking, easy to work with hours. Sound system that is available for rent was great, too!
Just had our wedding reception at The Eastern, and after going through the experience I would not recommend this venue to other people. The space is great and works well as a blank canvas that allows you to create the wedding/event just to your specifications which is awesome. The major problem is with the service and staff. The sales coordinator is difficult to get a hold of, and the bar package is difficult to work with. The Eastern serves the liquor and wine and will charge you extra for poured wine which is no big deal, but they then tell us they do not have enough wine glasses for the guests. So we're forced to pivot with our caterer to cover their deficiencies despite them being in charge of the bar package. Just know that you will have to be patient working with their rules and staff
We had our wedding here, very beautiful intimate place. Blank canvas so your vision will be a reality. Communication with Emily was good everything was straight forward with the prices but we were caught off guard with the prices with the speciality cocktails. But overall wonderful place.
If you're looking for a blank canvas with great parking, look no further. The Eastern was fabulous for our Sangeet. It hosted our 150 people easily, gave us full creative freedom to bring in our decorations, provided great ventilation and even had an excellent patio space for our dream food truck!
This is a beautiful venue, run by great people.
We were originally supposed to have our wedding on June 6, 2020, but obviously that was a no-go due to COVID. We ended up postponing twice after being too optimistic that the pandemic would be over sooner rather than later. (Will it ever be over??)
Anyway, the event manager Emily Chambers was so amazing and understanding throughout the whole process. They made picking a new date easy. Our wedding ended up being on a Sunday instead of a Saturday, and they refunded us the difference in rates--since they charge more for Saturdays than Sundays. We appreciated that.
The venue itself is adaptable for whatever you have in mind. It gets a lot of natural light. You can have your event indoors or outdoors on the patio, so you'll be prepared whatever the weather.
We are so happy to have picked The Eastern for our recent wedding. We looked at many venues in the Detroit/Metro Detroit area and this was the one that stuck out to us! The place is so unique and you have the ability to bring in your own vendors to decorate as you please. The location was perfect as well, located in Detroit’s historic Eastern Market with a quick 5 minute drive downtown (which was convenient for guests staying down there). They have parking available on site and a spacious patio which we leveraged for our cocktail hour. The inside is massive which we were able to use for both our ceremony and reception!
Emily and the team at the Eastern were super helpful and responsive with all the questions we had leading up to our event.
We received a lot of compliments from the guests and would definitely recommend this venue for any future weddings/events!
I am beyond happy that we went with the Eastern for our venue. It's beautiful, roomy, and being so close to Eastern Market is really cool and easy for photos with murals - excellent location. I loved the fact that I could get creative with the space and make it my own given the industrial, modern theme in the building... it was absolutely perfect for me and allowed me to do some really cool decor things like disco balls! I was pleasantly surprised with their well liquor menu - Smirnoff ain't too shabby for well, know what I mean? Anyways, the Eastern was a great space, with a nice patio... I'd pick the Eastern all over again!
Couldn't be happier that we chose The Eastern as our reception venue in June of 2019. Emily was a pleasure to work with and answered all of our questions promptly. She gave us suggestions when we weren't sure of things and was very accommodating to our needs. The staff that was present the night of our wedding was fantastic! They were super friendly and great to work with.
We thought parking would be an issue but our guests did not have any trouble.
An overall great experience and I would recommend this venue to future couples!
Emily was great to work with and the venue was gorgeous! It was really hot on our wedding day and the space got really hot during dinner. We’ve also heard from several guests that the bartenders were rude, which is a bummer when you are required to use their bar service.
Our reception at The Eastern was beautiful - it's a very open, industrial space that has a lot of blank-canvas potential. There aren't many amenities there - no kitchen, no private area for the bridal party, not much furniture provided, et cetera - but they were up front about the limitations of their venue and recommended vendors that were experienced with working in their space.
Communication was where I was really disappointed in The Eastern. We toured the venue at the beginning of the year and were told that if we signed in a week, we could have it for the previous year's rates. Awesome! When we got the contract, though, it was for the current year's rates. The booking manager (Emily) did honor her verbal commitment once we caught this mistake, but it did make me a little nervous that they had started out trying to charge us an extra thousand dollars.
During the year that elapsed between signing the contract and our event, The Eastern took away the parking lot that we had specifically asked about during the booking process. There is now a small lot for about 15-20 cars - everyone else has to street park. Getting no notification about this change felt very disrespectful. There were other small things that they forgot to tell us about, like replacing a mural on one of the walls and putting a patio outside the venue - none of them very big deals, but I do think that the venue should inform people who are planning events there about changes to the venue. If you can get over these communication issues, though, and find good vendors to make up for The Eastern's lack of amenities, you can have a really beautiful event here.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Your comments and suggestions are vital to our growth and development. As the owner/operator of The Eastern I am deeply committed to creating the best event possible for each client and take all e...
xperiences and comments very seriously. I am so happy to hear you had an overall wonderful experience. I also personally apologize for failing to meet your expectations regarding the changes we implemented over our busy summer. Overall, the patio and green wall have been a hit at every wedding since installation and were given to all existing clients for no additional charge. We understand this may not have been what you anticipated and offer our sincerest apologies. As you know, parking in Eastern Market is a commodity and under the control of the City of Detroit. By way of explanation, right before your event, the City decided the original lot we used for our first two years of business would be leased to another entity -- leaving us with 60 spaces of street parking and access to an additional 60 spaces in the lot just across the street from the venue. This unprompted change by the City was a surprise to everyone and outside of my authority. I am hopeful this information finds you well and addresses your concerns. Thank you so much for your feedback we are inspired by you. We are working hard to ensure all events at The Eastern are memorable and exceed all expectations set by clients and guests. We are thankful for your valuable insight and wish you a very Happy New Year.
The Eastern was really a perfect venue for what we were looking for! It is a raw unique space and throughout our planning, there were a few renovations such as the permanent boxwood wall on the interior east side and a beautiful cement patio right outside the roll up door. Awesome and amazing touches to the evening, although it would have been nice to have been told about it instead of finding out the week before.
Definitely do your research for rentals and vendors, along with setting up the night as there are additional fees to tear down the next day; we knew that there might be additional fees, but the day goes by so fast (and you don’t realize that a venue where you need everything — cost and fees creep up on you) so that extra time you wanted for the night might not happen. A few other challenges were that I was constantly emailing asking questions (always getting a response and answers) however, I felt that I was bothering them every time — where it would have been nice to have the venue provide some initial information such as selections for the bar, how many bartenders, what the coffee bar would look like, knowing where and when to make payment, the final count, parking the day of, etc. Basic logistics that you would get with the venue.
Everything went smooth the day of our wedding. We didn’t have a contact number for the person that was there, however our vendors were spot on — but it would have been nice to have that prior. We had quite a few of guests tell us that the beer was warm — not cool after the bar package was a part of the contract (ps: the bar is $/pp for 3 hours in our contract so we had to pay more for 5 hours).. The bartenders were great and the guests overall were super happy the entire time. The coffee bar/cafe was a hit! So although a little pricey, it was so worth it!! Know your guest count as there isn’t too much wiggle room once you sign the contract. I feel like the venue is growing and so each event will probably be better than the last. Overall we would most likely pick this venue again! The experience, and the atmosphere were great! Our guests can’t stop raving about the entire night — which makes us happy!! We got our dream wedding day and the venue was a part of it.
The venue was amazing. It was an incredible space to really make our own. I would suggest hiring a wedding planner and great vendors because the venue is a blank canvas!
The Eastern was exactly what we wanted for our wedding venue and I'm so happy that we found it. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how "cool" it was or the feel of the venue. If you're looking for something different, and to really wow your guests-- the Eastern is the way to go. You can really personalize it to your wedding style, but it will still have a very industrial chic vibe to it.
I loved everything about our wedding, but I highly recommend the addition of fans to the venue. Our day was perfect weather, so the heating/cooling wasn't turned on and there wasn't a ton of air flow. Not really a complaint-- just a suggestion from an overheated bride! :)
The Eastern is a beautiful venue for a wedding without question. We loved our wedding there! With that being said, we and our wedding planner had several issues with the staff during the planning process. They were frequently slow to communicate or gave incomplete information. For example, we were not told until late in the process that the beverage packages (already pricy) do not include glassware. On the day of our wedding, the venue opened half an hour later than expected; it was a morning wedding, so this was a big issue. Additionally, the parking area was never plowed properly. They did make amends for this by upgrading our bar package, which was much appreciated. Overall, though, the staff was far from friendly or helpful, and even though we loved our wedding, we may have chosen a different venue if we had known that ahead of time.
The Eastern was chosen by my husband and I because of the cool industrial vibe- we knew immediately we wanted to have our wedding reception there. Rocky and Scott are great and accommodated our schedules. However, we were not pleased with the fact that we paid gratuity ahead of time, but the bartenders still had a tip jar out. We thought that distasteful as we did not want our guests to have to worry about an extra tip. We also were not told we had to be locked into one of their bar packages when we put our deposit down. We just want other couples to be aware of these two things. Overall, we had a great reception and the Eastern was a beautiful, one-of-a-kind venue.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us and for your kind words about the venue. We certainly apologize for any confusion on our bar operations....unfortunately, due to Michigan State Laws we are not allowed anyone o...
ther than The Eastern to serve and sell alcohol on the premises. Also, had we known you didn't wish for the bartenders to have a tip jar out we would have certainly not done so. We will certainly do a better job moving forward of communicating not only on our website, contracts, and in-person. We wish you the very best in your marriage and lives together!
We had a great experience, the venue is perfect. The outdoor area makes great extra space. The bartenders were awesome!
The Eastern was the perfect industrial space to host our wedding reception! We received endless compliments about the space throughout the entire evening. Scott and Rocky are super communicative and were wonderful with my many questions throughout the year of planning our wedding. We were able to get into the space many many times to measure, take pictures, etc. We absolutely loved hosting our wedding there and bringing in vendors to make the space look exactly like we hoped. We thank the Eastern for being the most beautiful blank canvas ever! Highly recommend hosting your wedding here for unique, romantic, industrial vibes!
The Eastern is a magical venue! The most important aspect that sets it apart to me, are the people! Leading up to our event and during, every person involved went above and beyond to make sure we were happy! The space is beautiful and so glorious at night! Really a wonderful place to host an event!! ❤
The Eastern was such an incredible venue for our wedding. We loved the warehouse vibe but felt like we could personalize it completely. Rocky was also really easy to work with! He accommodated our schedules and our vendors seamlessly. I would definitely recommend this for any event!
Amazing venue. Management and staff were great to work with and took care of everything. Highly recommend the eastern!!
