About this vendor
The Farm at South Mountain is a lush outdoor wedding venue located in Phoenix, AZ. This magical, rustic venue is an ideal place for ceremonies and other celebrations. There are plenty of pleasant surprises found throughout the farm. These include pecan trees, grassy knolls, and gorgeous, blooming florals. This enchanting property has 10 acres to explore.
This exquisite property’s history began in the early 1920s. A man named Dwight Heard acquired a substantial bit of land and subsequently sold it off. After changing hands, Wayne Smith eventually gained ownership of the farm and developed the property into something that is reminiscent of how it looks today. Nowadays, the venue is owned by culinary aficionado Pat Christofolo. Since acquiring the land in 2012, Pat has opened three restaurants and two event venues, embracing a farm-to-table experience.
Couples will be able to choose between two event spaces at The Farm at South Mountain. These include the Canopy in the Grove and the Stone Grove. The Canopy at the Grove is able to host 50 to 500+ guests, all within its 2,400 square feet. Here, couples and their guests will be surrounded by pecan trees and landscaped grounds. The Stone Grove is able to host up to 150 guests. Ceremonies and receptions may both be held here, surrounded by handcrafted stonework and locally derived architectural masterpieces. Couples and guests alike will enjoy the built-in wood-burning stove. As a conversation starter, it serves as an incredibly functional decor piece.
Couples will avail of some great benefits with their venue rental. Some of these include ceremony benches, chairs, tables, linens, and a wedding lounge. There are various options available for those that want to upgrade, such as specialty chairs and tables, alternate locations, and a selection of other rentals. Clients may reach out to a farm event manager to discuss these in detail. Bar packages are available to make an event all the more enjoyable. These may be inclusive of beer and wine bars to full open bars. In order to help couples make their event complete, they are presented with a list of recommended vendors to choose from. If couples would like to ask further questions about services at The Farm at South Mountain, they are encouraged to reach out to the venue with their inquiries.

As others have said, the venue is beautiful and the food was very good. All three options were good including vegan. The venue is incredibly overpriced for what you get. There was only one table for signing in, presents etc which looked awkward and forced people to be cramped. I never saw the staff coordinator the entire day. There are no table decorations even available and there is no place for the groomsman to get ready. The bartender was great! The DJ basically did a playlist. He didn’t do the requested special dances until he was told. There are a lot of hidden fees. Bottom line is that the food/alcohol were great. The property is very pretty. The venue itself is very overpriced (Sunday evening 8 tables was $20k) and did not include anything else and no coordinator day of wedding.
The Farm at South Mountain is the most beautiful venue for weddings! The big trees and large amount of greenery make for the perfect scenery. The Riding Tandem team had the pleasure of working here last weekend and the wedding turned out absolutely breathtaking!
I am giving this venue 3 out of 5 stars because it is a truly beautiful and breathtaking venue, and the catering team was so spectacular at their jobs. However, I am incredibly disappointed with their event staff. I knew going in that I would not have a wedding coordinator and that their staff would not act as a wedding coordinator. However, I was told over and over again that a member of their staff (I think mine ended up being Kristen? But honestly I have no idea, which is telling) would be present up until dinner was served to help the event run smoothly. I was promised there would be an event coordinator on site to help me.
The day of, however, I saw my "event coordinator" for precisely 5 seconds as she loaded up into a golf cart to go to an alcohol tasting. I was in the middle of taking first look pictures, and she shouted "Everything going okay?" at me across the lawn before driving away. What was I supposed to do? Stop my pictures and chase her down in my wedding dress and heels to get 5 minutes of face time with her so she could answer my questions? My maid of honor, my brother, and my husband's best man attempted to find anyone who worked at the venue to assist us or answer questions, and they couldn't find a single person.
There is absolutely no venue staff presence the day of, or if there is they're too busy tasting alcohol than to deal with you, so if you book this venue communicate heavily with your DJ and bridal party to make sure the ceremony and reception go well. Santa Barbara Catering, the required catering and bar service for the venue, is thankfully on point and amazing, so our reception went off without a hitch.
I recommend this venue because it's beautiful and the catering team exceeded my expectations, but do not expect anything at all from the venue staff itself.
From the first time you visit The Farm at South Mountain, you’ll immediately fall in love with its lush greenery, rustic charm and delicious farm-to-table food. The venue is a lovely hidden gem just off of the I-10 and 32nd Street, which makes it a perfect “getaway” for anyone looking to get married in an outdoor venue minus the desert vibe. We got married in October (26th) and the weather was just perfect! It’s a picture-perfect place that will make for the most incredible wedding photos!
The team at The Farm (including their catering service Santa Barbara Catering) is friendly and helpful and will do their best to get you exactly what you need. Our coordinator Kristen regularly checked in on us to see if we had any questions or concerns and she was always quick to respond whenever we did! She helped my now-husband and I work out all the fine details so that our wedding ceremony and reception were exactly as we envisioned.
This venue is also perfect for kids! Majority of our wedding guests had little ones and the kids had an absolute blast running around in the grass, playing cornhole and staring in awe at Homer the giant tortoise. The environment alone was enough to keep many of them entertained before the dance floor opened up during the reception.
The Farm is definitely one of the more expensive venues in Phoenix, and the prices will begin to add up once you start making upgrades (chairs, linens, lawn games, etc.) and they do limit some of the vendors you can choose, but in the end my husband and I couldn’t be happier with how our wedding turned out. We’d say it was absolutely worth the price!
I got off to a rather bad start with The Farm – I requested a courtesy hold on a wedding date while we negotiated the contract. I was told they couldn’t officially do that but was promised they would call me first if anyone else was interested in my date. Over the course of the couple day contract negotiation I received an email from my contact at The Farm that another couple had booked the venue on my desired date at one of their open houses. My fiancé, mother, and I were very upset we didn’t receive the courtesy call (as we would have booked right then) and considered walking away right then but I decided to continue with The Farm simply because I loved the venue so much and just had to choose another date. There were several other disappointments along the planning process: you have to use Santa Barbara catering and aren’t even provided an actual food tasting so choosing your menu is a bit of a shot in the dark. There are many hidden fees and upcharges along the way – the actual venue rental is the cheapest part so don’t let that fool you. Also, heads up that hiring a day of wedding coordinator for this site is absolutely necessary – the coordinator at the farm is simply there to ensure tables, chairs, food, etc. is set up – they won’t help with ushering down the aisle, setting up décor, running the reception, etc. HOWEVER, despite the several negative experiences we had with The Farm, the actual wedding day turned out beautifully. The venue is stunning and unique, the food from Santa Barbara was AMAZING and their service staff was so wonderful and attentive.
We got married at Stone Grove, and at first we were a little worried since the restaurant was open and there was another wedding going on at The Canopy at the front of the property. You had NO IDEA there was anyone else there that wasn't there for our wedding. Nikki was so great to work with, and Kirsten literally made everything so easy! My family is all from California, so they thought they were coming to a desert with a cactus for our wedding. They had no idea that all this greenery existed in our state and we could not have had better weather. This was my finance's first choice of venue, and we both could not believe how beautiful it was. The only downer is that it does have to be over at 10pm, so it really does go by in a flash.
I had a ceremony-only wedding at The Canopy location and it was just perfect. The bridal suite was great to get dressed in and all the areas around it were perfect for first-look photos. Brittany was easy to work with and answered my questions and concerns quickly. Santa Barbara Catering even set us up with snacks and drinks for our guests after the ceremony so people were entertained while we were off taking photos before we went to a restaurant for dinner. Our ceremony was at 5pm so the sunset lighting was perfect for taking pictures after. The Farm was affordable and beautiful, I couldn't have asked for a better ceremony venue!
My husband and I really loved having our wedding at the Farm. Our Farm coordinator, Brittany, and all of the Farm staff, were so helpful and kind. Brittany really made our day something out of a dream. The venue itself is gorgeous so half of your work is done! Our wedding was at the Stone Grove so we were able to use the stone oven for pizzas- it was so fun! I gave four stars for the amazing customer service, beautiful venue, food, but the ability to only choose from two DJ services was frustrating, given that the one DJ we chose wasn't very good. Regardless, I was choose the Farm to have my wedding at again in a heartbeat.
It's hard to believe that the worst rain/wind storm of the year will happen on your wedding day in AZ, but it happened to us...
I had the good fortune to work with Brittany and Nikki from Santa Barbara Catering (the onsite caterer). Throughout the planning process they were easy to work with (never pushy, helpful with reminders of deadlines, and quick to respond to my email/phone questions). The week of the wedding, they kept in close contact as we had to make decisions about where the ceremony and reception would be held due to the impending rain storm. They helped me think through the pros and cons of each of the decisions (tent or no, ceremony location, etc). Day of the wedding the entire Farm at South Mountain event team were onsite to help us and our guests arrive (navigating the rain, mud, umbrella pile, etc). An hour before the ceremony when we finally made the call to move the entire ceremony and reception under The Canopy the events team thoughtfully unhooked our ceremony backdrop and moved it to the side of the tent, grabbed the beautiful rug from their office so that we wouldn't stand in any water. When I walked into the ceremony with my parents, it was a splendid sight.
There are so many other ways the Events team at The Farm helped and attended to us and our guests throughout the night...the list goes on. If you're considering the space there, just book it! You won't regret working with the Santa Barbara Catering team at The Farm at South Mountain.
We could not have picked a more perfect place to have our wedding. We were married on 11/11/16 and did a morning/brunch wedding. The venue is absolutely gorgeous, and the atmosphere is perfect for a morning wedding. From the moment we first visited the Farm, I knew it was where I wanted my wedding. All of the staff at the Farm were incredibly helpful, but we worked closely with Brittany. She was absolutely amazing. She answered my ENDLESS questions, made sure that everything was absolutely perfect for our big day, and was the first person on site to greet us even though it was 6:30 in the morning! Every detail was perfect, and we received several compliments on the venue. I would highly recommend The Farm to anyone looking for a gorgeous outdoor venue with amazingly helpful and friendly staff.
My husband and I struggled to find a unique and interesting venue for sometime after our engagement, but then we found The Farm at South Mountain. The trees and greenery felt like you were plopped straight onto a farm on the east coast, and we absolutely loved it! We chose to hold our ceremony/ reception on the Quiessence Lawn/ Morning Glory Patio. No generic ballroom feel here. Along with the perfect scenery came the perfect staff; everyone was knowledgable, pleasant, and answered any questions we had in a timely manner. The day of our wedding, there were about 5-10 staff members were on hand to help decorate and bring everything to life. We were so pleased with the outcome of everything, and wouldn't have it any other way!
We got married at the Morning Glory Patio at the back of The Farm and it was absolutely beautiful. It was very intimate and so pretty with all of the flowers and garden lights at night. Lindley was our contact at The Farm and she was always extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The food at our reception was delicious and we had so many comments from guests that it was the best wedding food they had ever had. We would not have changed a thing!
I had my wedding at The Farm at South Mountain in April of 2014 at the stone grove. The venue was gorgeous, the staff was attentive and it was nearly perfect. We do live in Arizona though, and as it can be in April it got warm. The ceremony was from 9:30-1pm and when I sat down to brunch the silverware was too hot to even touch.
Per my request some umbrellas had been set out prior to the reception, but not nearly enough for all the guests. Some guests even left early due to the heat. More umbrellas were eventually set out, but it took time and was a bit of a hiccup.
Overall everything was top notch. This was a spectacular venue with great scenery. I do not second guess my decision to have my wedding here at all.
My two buyers beware would be that 1) you are required to use Santa Barbara Catering for your reception and 2) upcharges, upcharges, upcharges (chairs, linens champagne flutes). The venue rental was the cheap end of the deal.
I chose The Farm at South Mountain for my wedding ceremony and reception in November. The setting was perfect for our photographs, and provided beautiful scenery and weather for the outdoor ceremony and reception we wanted. Lindley was super helpful and answered my millions of questions. The catering was well organized and we got tons of compliments on the food. They are such professionals and are wonderful at what they do. They even sent us a surprise "thank you" after our wedding. I couldn't have been more pleased!
I cant say enough for how perfect our day was! I had made a last minute decision to change the venue and the Farm still had our day open. It is the most gorgeous place I've been to in Arizona. I have been saying for a few years if I ever get married I want it to be here. And I am so glad my dream came true. Thank you!
The farm was wonderful...they took care of everything, including set up and take down, and really made things go as smoothly as possible.
We got married on 10/8 at The Canopy in the Grove. Both the ceremony and reception were outside. It was beautiful, both for pictures and the actual wedding. Our guests kept coming up to us afterwards saying that they had so much fun and that everything was so pretty. I think the bucolic setting helped everyone to relax. The wedding coordinator Nikki was awesome, very professional and available to answer questions. Staff at The Farm were great and so helpful throughout the evening.
The Farm was beautiful, the wedding coordinator did an amazing job. Santa Barbara Catering was great and the whole day went smoothly without me feeling stressed.
but not winter in the day time...
If you are getting married as late as November you will find a beautiful mature pecan orchard, in full leaf, that looks like a scene out of california or georgia. Full foliage, tall tall trees, white tents, a garden...
But in winter when the leaves drop it looks a little harsh. Naked tree limbs piercing the sky.
It would still make a beautiful evening/night wedding for photography once the trees are not as harsh against the sky.
Beautiful venue. Everything was set up perfectly. I didn't have to worry about everything coming together because the on-site coordinator was such a huge help. I love The Farm at South Mountain! I wouldn't have had my wedding anywhere else.
From details to professionalism to perfection, The Farm at South Mountain was absolutely amazing and I wouldn't have changed a thing about my wedding day! I was very unsure about a few things but with the help of the event coordinators Nikki and Nicole they really went above and beyond to make sure my day was more than I could have ever dreamt it would be. The night flew by and without a worry on anyone's face because everything was coordinated so perfectly. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone from The Farm at South Mountain, truly an unbelievable and unforgettable night.
The venue was beautiful; manicured green lawns, huge vibrant pecan trees. The white tent looks very elegant instead of circus-like. Highly recommended!
