General Potter Farm is an absolutely gorgeous wedding venue with acres and acres of meadows and forest and streams to create numerous options for ceremony, reception, and photo sites. Plus, of course, the beautiful historic barn with a cozy lower level featuring a stonewall and an upper level with soaring ceilings. And Binky, the owner, is absolutely wonderful! She was so flexible and obviously wanted us to have our perfect day! And we really appreciated that we could bring in our own vendors and were not locked into buying food and alcohol from a specified source. The weekend of the wedding, we all kept saying "we sure chose the right venue!"
I could not have been happier with my choice for reception venue. Binky was my main point of contact and she was prompt, professional, and friendly in replying to my emails and texts and was very available to book visits. I was also very happy that she was present on the day of to help everything run smoothly. The venue itself is beautiful and gave such a cozy, romantic, and intimate feel with the string lights and natural wood.
I hosted a 50 th birthday party here and from start to finish they were amazing to work with. Binky is so kind and gives you the attention you need every step of the way! She had Amanda there the night of our event and she was so helpful and so pleasant to work with! Thank you for letting us celebrate at such a beautiful place ❤️
General Potter Farm provided us with the perfect barn setting I had been dreaming of for our wedding! We loved the cozy barn setting, updated with A/C and indoor bathrooms. The grounds are beautiful and it’s so kind of Binky to allow couples to take pictures on her beautiful porch as well! The whole setting gave us the rustic, romantic feel I was searching for. We loved their flexibility and that we were lucky enough to be able to reserve the farm for the full weekend of our wedding. It was so helpful to be able to bring our decor over the day of our rehearsal, and tear down the day after.
We held our ceremony in the downstairs and our reception in the upstairs and are really happy with our choice! The stone walls and exposed beams in the downstairs made our ceremony with about 150 guests feel intimate. With the help of our florist (Lisa from Woodrings), the downstairs was transformed into a magical and cozy space. The reception space upstairs required very little decor which we appreciated- the space is beautiful to start with! It’s so nice that much of the lighting upstairs is already in place and cute. Through the work of our florist, the addition of some sheer curtains, flowers, and candles, really made the space gorgeous. We are so glad we decided to hold our whole wedding day at General Potter Farm; it was wonderful to stay in one place and not worry about traveling between the ceremony and reception, and the farm offered more than enough space for all of our guests to easily park onsite.
We found the barn’s back room to be so helpful as we were getting ready and preparing for the day, and it was great to have the kitchen right next to where we put our buffet. Although it took some creative planning, we were able to fit 150 guests at long rectangle tables, a circle bride and groom table, gift tables, decor tables, buffet tables, drink tables, AND a large dance floor area in the upstairs of the barn. It was so helpful to already have a built-in bar area in the upstairs.
Although we did a ton of set-up and tear-down ourselves, with the help of our amazing family and friends, we felt it was so worth it to be able to customize the space so much. General Potter Farm does not provide rental items such as tables, chairs, tablecloths, curtains, glasses, etc., but all of the vendors we worked with were familiar with General Potter, which was helpful. Even though it was a bit of work on our end to figure out all the rentals ourselves, we appreciated the great value of General Potter Farm and being able to customize our day. I really don’t think you could rent a whole barn for a whole weekend anywhere else for the price we were given, let alone such a beautiful space as General Potter.
Binky was great to work with and we appreciated the connections General Potter has with many local vendors!
We are SO HAPPY with our choice of General Potter Farm for our wedding venue. We held both our ceremony and reception at General Potter Farm. The barn and surrounding area is so lovely. Something I loved about GPF was how beautiful the barn looks without any decoration at all. They always have string lights up in the rafters, which is such a nice touch. There was also a ladder & chandelier above the area where our sweetheart table. There is a very spacious backroom that we used as both the rehearsal dinner space and the bridal suite for getting ready. The downstairs area of the barn is also amazing and we held our cocktail hour there. We initially planned to have an outdoor ceremony behind the barn (Plan A was down by the stream the runs nearby, but recent rains made it too muddy/buggy to be an option for our early Sept wedding) but due to some last minute rain, we had to move our ceremony inside. Many couples hold their indoor ceremony in the downstairs area, which looks incredible with plenty of lighting. Since our switch to inside was so last minute, we decided to hold the ceremony on the dancefloor area upstairs and have guests are their dinner tables. It actually worked out very well and the late afternoon lighting was perfect.
For all the on-site visits, we met with Binky who owns GPF. She was so kind and great to work with & provided a lot of helpful insight in the layout of tables and how to set up the space. When I would email or call, I typically spoke with Lori, who was also incredible helpful. The only hitch I would say was on our wedding day we were expecting to have Binky on-site, but it turned out to be Lisa (who is also one of the main three ladies that run GPF). I think Lisa did a nice job, but I hadn't established any connection with her prior to the day (tough since she didn't know me or my vision of the day). I just wish I had met her earlier in the process to make the day smoother.
Overall I loved our wedding at GPF!
I would've recommended them except that on the day of my wedding it came back that there was a mistake made in communication between Lisa and me. Lisa told me we could do something that turns out we couldn't and so last minute we had to hire an extra bartender to cover the bar area, costing us extra money. Binky read the emails exchanged between Lisa and I and saw the mistake was Lisa's and said General Potters would reimburse us for the extra bartender service to cover for the night, since we were originally told we wouldn't need it. It has been 2 months and they haven't reimbursed us and everytime I call to speak to them about it, I get the answering machine. They haven't returned a single call of mine, seems they are avoiding having to pay us for their mistake. Despite their promise to reimburse us.
General Potter was the perfect venue for our early spring wedding! They were so helpful throughout the whole process -- answering questions we had as we were planning, allowing us ample time to set up the barn, and providing support the day of our ceremony -- making our wedding day go smoothly. The barn itself is beautiful and spacious, making it a great place to hold a large wedding. Bonus -- string lights are already put up in the upper portion of the barn, making decorating time a lot shorter!
My daughter's wedding reception was here last weekend and it was wonderful! The barn is very affordable and the owner was very helpful and her son was so attentive the whole evening! Always asking if things were alright or if we needed anything! We rented the barn for Friday as well and spent the day setting up and decorating! There is a huge backroom that we used for the rehearsal dinner. The barn is air conditioned and already decorated with many lights! They also have many cool items to help add to your own decorations to make the venue magical! Great photo ops and the pictures look amazing! The downstairs level we used for cocktail hour which was perfect! My daughter said her wedding was everything she ever wanted!
We recently got married at the General Potter Farm, and it was beautiful. The venue and the area surrounding the barn are amazing. We were able to have our ceremony outdoors, but if the weather would not have cooperated, the barn has a lower level that would have created a beautiful, intimate ceremony. We got some amazing photos using several different locations on the grounds. The staff from the barn were so helpful. They let us go in a little early to start set up, and they were there on the day of the rehearsal and the day of the wedding to make sure everything ran smoothly. This is a beautiful setting for a reasonable price. The barn also has tons of decorations, sign, etc. to use to help add special touches to your day!
General Potter's is a beautiful backdrop for any wedding. It's close to State College, and is perfect for a Penn State wedding. Binky and her team are helpful and awesome to work with.
General Potter Farm was a no-brainer for our wedding venue; we were sold from the moment we first walked in and met we Binky and bounced some ideas off of her. The barn and property is absolutely gorgeous (makes for amazing photos!). We used the lovely outdoor space for yard games, the downstairs for our cocktail hour, and the beautiful upstairs for dinner and dancing. The people from General Potter were amazingly relaxed and helpful. They were there to answer any questions we had and assist when needed, but they did not hover and let us do what we needed to do regarding setting up and cleaning.
Overall, General Potter Farm is the perfect venue for a bride and groom looking for a unique and beautiful setting for a ceremony and/or reception!
We had the ceremony and reception here, and loved it. The barn I on the National Register of Histoic Places, for anyone who's as big a geek as I am. The building is beautiful- rough, raw wood beams and a stone wall in the basement. The grounds are just lovely, and we'd planned to have an outdoor ceremony, but Mother Nature had other ideas. No worries- we moved inside and still had a beautiful ceremony. The cocktail hour was in the basement, with votives on the stone wall, and the reception was upstairs in the main barn area. The grounds include beautiful outbuildings, vegetation, and a stream, all great for photographs.
Here's what it's like to work with this space: it's very do-it-yourself. You'll need to bring in chairs (unless you rent the on-site chivari chairs, which were expensive), tables, decor, dishes... Everything. If you're creative and proactive, this will be ideal and fun. If you're not, it will be a challenge. You can still have your wedding here, but you'll need a great florist, planner, partner, and bridal party, all willing to jump in and help. I was blessed to have these things, and the wedding came together beautifully. It's not expensive on its face, and since you can customize, you can really make it as economical as you wish. It's a really wonderful location- beautiful, historic, and unique.
The barn was everything we could have hoped for and more. Binky was great to work with and the convenience of having both the ceremony and the reception at the barn really made our wedding day a lot less stressful, especially since we had a lot of guests from out of town who weren't familiar with the area (a lot of winding, bad roads to get there!). Couldn't recommend this place more!!
I loved the barn. It had a really rustic feel! Before you sign on the dotted line, know that this venue is truly a barn with a lot of "barn" characteristics.
Such a beautiful place and kind owners. Just a wonderful place for our wedding!
The GPF is a stunning place to hold a wedding. Binky (owner) is very accommodating and friendly. Only mild complaint is that the barn was a little disheveled/dirty. This is a great place for a DIY couple!
Perfect place to get married in Central PA!
I booked this venue over a year in advance, and the owner Sam kept me updated throughout the entire planning process. Our wedding day ended up sandwiched between two weddings, one the Friday before, and one the Sunday after, but Sam kept everything running smoothly and made our day worry free!
We loved the farm/barn. It was a perfect setting for us. You pay to rent the barn but you also have to rent all of your tables/chairs and such and sent them up and break them down. Which for our group it was ok - Just know that going in... Your rental for the barn is really just a rental for the space. The owners at the farm are wonderful and very helpful. They had wonderful suggestions for outside vendors to use.
