The Grand Ballroom was perfect for us. We only had our reception there but could have easily seen it work for both.
Our reception had about 80 people (including our wedding party)...
and we used a mixture of round tables and long tables that really helped keep people grouped appropriately. We also were able to have a good sized dance floor for the DJ and never felt cramped even with him on one end and the buffet on the other.
Other reviewers talk a lot about Megan, The Grand's coordinator, and yall, she's amazing. I always felt comfortable asking for her advice or thoughts, she was super kind at every instant (though I'm sure we must have been a little annoying). She is a very clear communicator and just does an overall great job making you feel safe and cared for.
We chose the Grand because most of our party was from out of town so having most people stay at the hotel was perfect. ALSO, downtown McKinney is super walkable and has lots of restaurants, bars, and shops so people could just hang out the night before and day of and we even all got together for brunch the next day.
All food and alcohol and servers are in-house so we only had two bills, the initial deposit and our final bill that covered everything. I really liked not having to worry about vendors or ordering; it's all done there and their staff is wonderful. The food was amazing (it's from Rick's which is a steakhouse) and the drinks were delicious. We did beer and wine with signature cocktails to start. I thought it was really budget conscience that we could set our bar tab and if we got close, we could move to a cash bar. We didn't get remotely close but just knowing that we weren't going to end up with like a $5000 tab was really nice.
I would say two things. Parking really isn't great. We were on a tight budget so we didn't splurge to get Valet but if you have an event there on the weekend (Fri/Sat) I would say it's probably a must. Secondly, and this is just the tiniest of nits, but there is a $2/slice cake cutting fee. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter and you probably save that money with the linens and extra decor and table numbers they let you use but it was still silly.
Overall, our wedding was just the best. The Grand is gorgeous, the staff are wonderful, the hotel is super cool, and we cannot recommend it enough.

Also, if you want to have amazing food at your wedding that your guests will continue to rave about months later, you have to book The Grand Hotel. Rick's does an amazing job with the food! Overall, it was the best weekend ever. Our wedding party and close family stayed at the hotel with us Friday through Sunday morning. Then we had brunch at Rick's Sunday morning after the wedding. All our guests loved how different each of the rooms were decorated. Jacque was so awesome at accommodating all our needs (and we were kind of needy) but she handled us very well! :D I can't say enough how nice and professional the whole team at The Grand Hotel was. We could not have had a more perfect wedding.

be able to come over so we booked up the whole hotel and ended up dropping a few of the rooms closer to the event. We really loved the flexibility that the Grand Hotel allowed in their room blocks. They were so easy to work with! Jacque was always willing to answer incessant questions about bookings and constantly make changes. She was really good and so kind!
We never had time to make welcome bags for our guests, but the hotel (with the help of the city) put a bag in each of our rooms full of a few goodies and some pamphlets on things to do in McKinney. Nice touch!
The two suites are fantastic! The grand suite (the larger of the two suites) has lots of windows and tons of natural light! The only thing missing is a refrigerator. The owner's suite is slightly smaller, but is located in the old wing of the hotel and does have a mini-fridge.
