I went with my son and future daughter- in-law to inquire about a wedding and reception. The resort is gorgeous and has everything they wanted. They were excited to speak to someone and see what the packages were. The lady we spoke to was so not interested in answering our questions. She basically gave one word answers and could not provide us with any pricing. My husband said to her she acted like she had no interest in them having a wedding there. She said that was true. She doesn’t like dealing with the brides. So we left. It was very deflating! Too bad, it is so pretty there. I would never recommend that place to anyone! Not even my RV or equestrian friends.
We booked our wedding 15 months in advance and specifically chose a date when nothing else was booked according to Jennifer. When we went to reserve the cottages, which have to be booked with another person, everything bacame a nightmare! We were informed that a large dog show was on the same weekend and all existing lodging, including the bridal suite, were reserved for the dog show. Jennifer said dog shows are reserved 3 years in advance and took priority. We asked why we were told nothing else was booked when we signed our contract and Jennifer just yelled that she doesn't know other people's schedules or events. From that point forward we've been trying for almost a full month to talk to the Operations Manager and they just continually say he'll contact us whenever he gets time. We've sent multiple emails and left multiple phone messages. Tom Warriner has not responded once. We've put $3k down on a venue and multiple things Jennifer promised are not available and she's insisting we pay thousands more for items she said would be included in the original arrangement.
We've had to file a complaint with the BBB.
UPDATE:
On March 18th, after being unable to schedule a meeting for a month through Jennifer, the employee we booked our wedding with, to see the operations manager, we went to the venue in person hoping for resolution. The Operations Mgr, Tom, met with us and was very polite, professional and apologetic. He took full ownership of the scheduling issues but didn't seem to grasp the problems we had with Jennifer.
He mentioned the negative reviews on social media that I posted and said he was willing to still offer us the venue and try to resolve things or give us a refund. We accepted the offer for a refund and I voluntarily offered to update my reviews with the resolution. Tom never asked me to and it was never a condition of the refund.
After our meeting we received an email from Tom confirming we would receive a refund but stating that he felt we could have resolved it without me posting negative reviews.
Keep in mind I only began posting negative reviews after hearing nothing about resolving our concerns or allowing us to see the operations manager for a month!
We received our refund on the afternoon of Friday, March 22nd.On Monday morning, the 25th, we received a nasty email from Jennifer, stating we had not held up our "end of the agreement."
We asked her what she was talking about. Jennifer then told us that Tom agreed to the refund only on the condition that we remove the negative reviews.
Offering to cancel a contract and give a refund on a booking in which we were lied was proper. Demanding that we not offer accurate reviews, however, is not right!
The venue is beautiful and offers multiple indoor and outdoor options and several amenities that other venues don't, like on property lodging. But when staff doesn't communicate and provides incorrect information that you base your booking decision on, Jennifer became rude and refused to take responsibility or actively work on a resolution.
Tom and other staff were polite and professional toward us. Jennifer made our wedding plans a horrible event. I would not recommend The Grand Oaks Resort if they have to work through Jennifer.
On other review sites, you will see there's a 50/50 chance of either a dream wedding or a nightmare.
I just want anyone considering this venue to be aware and make sure ALL promises and even small details of the wedding are in writing.
Such beautiful property! Jennifer our coordinator was so on top of it and took care of everything. I couldn't have asked for a better place.
So sad, I have email and called for three weeks. I love the photos of this venue but they will not return a call or email. I guess they don’t need the business or maybe because I am only have 50 to 60 guest I am not worthy of their time. Anyway if they can’t communicate now what will it be like at the time of my wedding. 😔 Tammy B.
The venue threatened to cancel our (already paid for) wedding within three weeks of the scheduled wedding date over a meaningless dispute over house rentals which they caused.
The management accidentally double booked one of the house rentals and then, after refusing to take responsibility for the mistake or remedy it, they said they would proceed to cancel and refund our entire wedding if our guest continued to request a reasonable resolution for their mistake. I as the bride was contacted with threats of our wedding being canceled because of this.
Needless to say we were very, very, extremely upset with how the venue handled the situation so close to our wedding date which would have cost us months of planning and thousands of dollars.
The wedding turned out amazing, but the management should have admitted to their mistake and moved on to a resolution instead of doubling down and threatening my wife, causing that amount of anxiety and potential financial loss that close to our wedding date.
It is with a heavy heart that I can't give The Grand Oaks a 5 star review. When we first started the wedding planning for my daughter's wedding we worked with Julianne Cuomo which was very accommodating. The week of the wedding we were advised that she was no longer with them and they had hired someone to take her place. Apparently that didn't work out. Julianne was there for my daughter's wedding but things didn't go as we expected. It was difficult to get any call backs the week of the wedding and we were not sure who to call. Julianne did come through and was very helpful. The problem was the venue and management. The reception hall was 89 degrees and was very uncomfortable. We were told that too many people were going outside. That was not the case. I have an employee's wife that attended an event 2 weeks prior and the air conditioning was not working that night either. It was clear the management knew that there was a problem and did not take care of it. Really? All that time, money, planning and they can't make sure the air conditioner was working???? People were going outside to get cooled down! We felt very deceived by The Grand Oaks and this is probably only one of the reasons why Julianne left her job there. I assume the newly hired girl to take her place left after she saw all the potential problems. The venue is beautiful, the food was good, but 89 degree's in the reception area ruined the night and did a number on the cake. Shame on the management of The Grand Oaks! If you do plan to have a wedding there, please put in writing that they agree to keep the reception room at a reasonable temperature before signing all of their requirements.

We got married at the Grand Oaks in October, and I couldn't imagine having our special day anywhere else. Julianne is the most amazing coordinator - seriously she knows the answer to everything and always has a solution to make your worries disappear. She was there for us throughout the entire planning process and was such a huge blessing to us. The venue itself is breathtaking and maintained very well. Just go give the place a visit, and I swear you'll never want to leave. We also stayed in one of the cottages on property - gorgeous! We love everything about this place and highly recommend it!!
Our wedding was November 2017. and we had the best time. Julianne and her team were amazing to work with. she took care of all of our needs and they were all very professional about everything. The grounds and ballroom are beautiful. They have a catering included in the price and a cash or open bar. there were no hidden price and we knew everything up front. it was a pleasure working with them and we knew we didn't have to worry about something going wrong. Julianne and her team made our wedding day special and even our guest loved the grounds and atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a fun and relaxing wedding day. they offer outdoor ceremony and reception areas and have a barn area as well.
Beautiful venue. I'm so blessed to have worked with their amazing wedding coordinator Julianne Cuomo. She does an amazing job! She genuinely cares for all of her brides like they are family. She is there for you every step of the way. She takes control of any situation during your special day so you and your soon to be husband can enjoy your special day! I would highly recommend this venue to any bride.
We got married at The Grand Oaks on 3/25/16 and had the most amazing time!!! The best choice was having our wedding here and the prices were great as well. Catherine was amazing to work with. She always responded right away and made sure we had nothing to worry about on our wedding day. Everything ran smoothly thanks to the staff at The Grand Oaks. Our guests really enjoyed the Carriage Museum before the wedding and we still get so many compliments on how beautiful our wedding was. We are so glad we found this hidden gem and can't wait to come back to visit. Thank you Catherine for your hard work and dedication to making sure we had a special day! You were willing to go above and beyond for us and that meant the world to us.
My daughter's wedding at The Grand Oaks Resort and Museum was much more than we first expected. Nearly two years in the planning, the wedding was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined! After visiting many venues in Michigan, Chelsea was left confused and dismayed; nothing felt 'just right'. Then she and her fiancé, Tim, visited my husband and I, we took them to Grand Oaks...and viola! They both fell in love with this place! Sue and Nikki were so helpful and made us feel quite comfortable through the entire process. Chef Al of Brick City Catering (the only caterer used by Grand Oaks) delivered the most delightful appetizers, dinner and desserts and was also so very helpful during the planning stages. The cost provided includes 102 catered (plated) dinners and the bar tab. The Acorn (Honeymoon) Cottage was a beautiful setting for last minute staging for the bride and her court. Then for the bride and groom to retire to after the day's festivities. The horse drawn carriage arrived at the cottage to carry Chelsea and her Dad to the ceremony. The Chapel, a converted hay barn, was the perfect setting for this family centered ceremony. Then Chelsea and Tim left the Chapel in the carriage, as guests made their way to the Oak Room for cocktails and hors devours. Nikki and Sue directed the program effortlessly (maybe they've done this sort of thing before). With Chelsea being our only daughter it was important to her Father and I that this wedding was truly the wedding of her dreams, and The Grand Oaks Resort and Museum delivered the perfect place for that to take place.
This 400 acre farm is gorgeous and made our pictures pop against the outdoor grass. Sue and Nikki were great and helped keep everything moving on the wedding day. This venue has a contract with a great caterer and makes it easy to not have to go and try and find one yourself. Worth the price because they gave my husband and I a day we will never forget.
I would encourage any couple to get married at grand oaks. It was amazing. The staff truely helped make our day magical. They were with us every step of the way, and went above and beyond. They exceeded our expectations.
Having my wedding at the grand oaks was amazing! Sue and Misti were very easy to work with and very friendly and attentive to all my questions. Sometimes it would take a few days for Sue to get back to me, but she always went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, including finding places where we could cut expenses. The day of was completely stress free. I did not have to worry about a thing and I loved how I could get in to the venue the day before to set up. I was very satisfied with my choice in the Grand Oaks for my wedding.
Grand Oaks is a beautiful venue! I was looking for an outside venue and they had multiple options to choose from. We had our ceremony outside in their barn/chapel which was really simple and elegant. Our reception was in their reception room but they also have other options for outside receptions too. They have carriages the bride rides to the ceremony in and then after the ceremony takes you around the property for a few minutes. They also have multiple houses on the property available for rent. I rented the bridal suite they have on the property to get ready in the day of the wedding with my bridesmaids. It was perfect! The only negative about the venue was some miscommunications up front but that was due to new employees/management. They were awesome the day of and were present throughout the whole day as we were getting ready until we left the reception. Their event coordinator Sue is the best! She was always available if I needed to call about anything and was always trying to do everything she could to make our wedding amazing.
BEAUTIFUL venue. HORRIBLE wedding coordinator!! THey are in the process of changing things but they seem to be changing for the worse.
