We were looking for a special venue that was beautiful, ready for a party (we wanted good cocktails and a live band) and served food. The Grove was the absolute best for us. The venue is located in Discovery Green, so it is surrounded by trees. There is wonderful outdoor terrace that is large enough to host a 10 person live band, dance floor, flowers and cocktail tables for an absolute fabulous party. They offer premium alcohol deals and specialty cocktails and the food was devoured by everyone. Not one misstep can be noted! And check out their valet parking and that grand staircase for a dazzling entrance and exit. Our photographer took some wonderful photos around and inside The Grove. BOOK it now if you can.
We just had our wedding here at the end of May in the Vista room, which is the entire upstairs. The venue the day of the wedding looked breathtaking. All we did was provide flowers but the venue speaks for itself with the beautiful trees surrounding everyone and all the windows. This also helped save on decorating costs. The food was amazing. The customer service was amazing, with a special shout-out to Rourke!!! We can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed it all. The band played inside due to the heat and the sound in the Vista room was perfect for the band. The venue comes highly recommended! As a bride it made it a very easy wedding for me.
We had our wedding on the 2nd floor of The Grove in March 2022. We have very mixed feelings about our experience.
We fell in love with the space the second we saw it. The venue is stunning and the open concept with all of the trees is exactly what we wanted! The food is amazing. However the customer service was extremely lacking. If it wasn’t for the location and building itself we would have never put up with the customer service.
We were given wrong information on headcount, floor plans, etc from the first time we went until a few weeks before our event. The information on their website doesn’t match what we were told and we got different information from each person we spoke with. We actually decided to pass on The Grove for this reason (even though we loved the space) but reconsidered once we started to work with a planner who was able to get information for us from her past events there. We would have never been able to successfully coordinate with their team without our planner - and it was difficult for her.
They do not offer a food tasting even though your entire fee is for food and alcohol- we will say though the food is amazing! But it would have been nice to be able to try it before hand. We went a few times on our own for dinner to get a sense of the food and we always loved what we tried so that made us comfortable having the event there without a tasting. Even though the dinner menu is not the same as the catering menu it would have gone a long way to even offer us one complementary dinner at the restaurant to try the food.
After booking we were only allowed one 20 min walk through of the space during our entire planning process…. We took off work to be there and the manager who confirmed the meeting the day before wasn’t even there! And she did not notify anyone of our meeting so no one was prepared to cover for her. It was really disappointing.
Our wedding was amazing thanks to our planner and our other vendors! We had a great time but we wished that we had seen an honest review warning us of the pitfalls of the venue.
Any questions?
The Grove was a fantastic venue! Tatiana, the coordinator, was very helpful and was very accessible with quick replies, which made planning much easier. A great example of this was coordinating a last-minute tent rental with her for some unexpected rain (we wanted our ceremony outdoors but once could skip the tent and have it indoors). The venue itself is the perfect balance of providing beauty and intrigue on its own while allowing plenty of room for customization with beautiful flowers and designs. The bar, dance floor and table arrangement worked out very well. The menu options are varied and great (we loved the appetizers and drinks; main menu was decent but I've rarely had mind blowing food at a wedding). The overall pricing of the venue and food is quite reasonable given its quality and location right downtown. The venue allowed us a 4 hour time slot from 7-11 PM which meant things had to keep up a good pace. We were told 11 PM was a strict time cutoff (we planned an unofficial after party at a nearby bar). Additionally, the venue maxes out at 120 guests (with some sitting outside under a covered portion of the patio), so was a great fit for our modest-sized wedding.
We had our reception at the Grove in the Primavera room. After pivoting from 120+ guests to 16 due to coronavirus, the events team was gracious enough to let us switch rooms and it turned out to be the perfect choice for us. The park, the trees, the open deck all went along so well with how we envisioned our day to be. And the food and drinks were delicious!!
I could not be happier with our decision to get married at and have our reception at The Grove (Primavera Room). From the start, The Grove was professional and easy to work with. Debra was super on top of everything and helped us plan our menu and event with ease and confidence. The staff was just awesome the night of our event; they were the right mix of professional and fun/easygoing. I was impressed that a waiter even came out into Discovery Green to offer me and my new husband and our families some of our hors d’oeuvres while we were taking after ceremony photos. The food was delicious and we appreciate all of the staff that served the buffet and tended the bar. Fabulous venue for any event!
The Grove was such a beautiful spot for our wedding, and the staff was extremely helpful from start to finish. Tatiana, was always very quick to get back to us for all of our questions, and they made sure everything went seamlessly well on the night of our event; even when we had shockingly 48 degree weather in April. Without delay, they set up space heaters for all of the outside guests. The food was AMAZING! I am not vegetarian, and I still can't get over how good the vegetarian dish was. The space is already really nice looking, so minimal decor is necessary, other than your own personal touches. I highly recommend having your event here, and I would do it all over again.
Absolutely loved the food and the location. Tatiana the event coordinator was helpful and accommodating and our event was amazing.
The Grove was a beautiful venue for our outdoor ceremony on the deck and indoor brunch reception! The food tasted amazing, and we were able to pick out exactly what drink options we wanted at the bar and even substitute fruit for dessert since we already had a wedding cake. In addition, they set up and took down everything for us, providing all tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, and even tea lights. Debra was great - she answered all questions promptly and professionally, and she was very helpful in designing a layout that allowed all of our guests to sit inside for the reception. She also was flexible in developing a rain plan last-minute (even though we didn't end up needing it). The only complaints I have are: 1) the menu changed significantly from the time we signed to the time of the wedding including a steep increase in cost as well as very different meal choices, 2) they were not very flexible with regard to timing and we ended up with less time for our wedding than the contract stated was the usual allowance, without any compensation, and 3) the servers were not ready on time to man the buffet. Despite these things, the Grove was an amazing place to have our wedding and we would definitely recommend it to others!
I was drawn to this venue for my wedding due to the great location, huge oak trees, and skyline views, and was not disappointed with the ambiance the night of my wedding. There were definitely a few bumps in the road come the night of, but I believe that is to be expected at any venue. My only regret is doing passed horsdouerves versus food stations or a buffet (the food was a hit, even without a tasting you can trust this food to be 100% tasty). The general manager was quick to address all issues and resolve them as soon as he could. All in all I would recommend this venue to others!
I loved the look of the Grove from the beginning, with the beautiful wall to wall windows and balcony overlooking Discovery Green. The trees, the lights on the balcony, the wood panels make this a unique and elegant venue. My guests thought it was beautiful, and they loved lounging outside on the patio from time to time.
I also was initially interested in this venue because it's very affordable compared to other downtown reception venues. I was pretty surprised by how low our bill was with a three course meal, appetizers, and a full bar all evening.
The great thing about the Grove is also that it's a restaurant. A DELICIOUS restaurant. This isn't a reception venue that also makes okay food. This is an amazing restaurant that ALSO has fabulous reception space. My guests raved about the food.
Beautiful, affordable, delicious... but how about the service? Flawless. The coordinators there made sure everything went smoothly. I didn't have to worry about anything. And the serving staff was polite and competent. They went above and beyond.
Perfect location, valet parking... The Grove was perfect, and probably one of the best choices I made in my whole wedding planning.
The only major challenge with this venue is the size. Inside only fits about 80. But if your wedding is on the smaller side, you really can't find a better venue!
The Grove made our wedding day very unique and special. We didn't want to have the standard ballroom wedding reception and we were excited to learn about The Grove after my fiance proposed in Discovery Green. Tatiana and Debra were fantastic to work with. They are so familiar with having events there that they have solutions and answers to all issues. The setting was fantastic and they were extremely flexible on the day of the wedding regarding rearranging things due to weather. I don't know how many times I emailed questions to Tatiana and/or Debra and they were always patient and timely with responses. The only complaints I have are that you cannot sample the food beforehand and that the deck flooring makes it difficult for women wearing heels. The food we ordered was some passed appetizers, tortilla soup, salad, and the chicken breast/sea bass combo. The food was overall pretty good, but we heard from several guests that the chicken was tough. It is probably difficult to get everything right when cooking for that many people at once.
The Grove was wonderful. The setting is beautiful, the food was delicious (people are still talking about the food), and the staff was a joy to work with. We had our ceremony on the treehouse deck, and a cocktail party reception indoors. We had the space for five hours, which was perfect for us, but is shorter than many weddings.
We had our wedding ceremony AND reception at The Grove, and it lived up to our expectations. The food was divine, and the scenery (tree tops and city views) were everything I hoped for and more. Debra was amazing to work with, and the service was excellent on the night of the wedding. Thank you to The Grove for helping to make our wedding so memorable!
The venue was everything I had envisioned for my wedding day. The venue is so gorgeous (exposed wood planks and lots of glass) it didn't require very much additional decoration and the caterers were very accomodating.
The Grove was perfect. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. My fiance and I were engaged in the park, and were thrilled to find out they had an opening and it was in our price range. Throughout the entire process they were very responsive, flexible, and accomodating. We were in close contact the weeks before, and they listened to every request and there wasn't one detailed untouched. The day of was breathtaking. They did a beautiful job setting everything up as I wanted. The food was amazing! We served over 80 filets, and our guests were raving about it being "the best steak they've ever had", which is something you don't hear often for wedding food served in large quantities. I could not be happier with the entire process.
Could not have been happier with our experience at the Grove. The venue is AMAZING, so beautiful and filled with light, and the service was impeccable. The guests raved about their meals (and the appetizers were amazing), the service was seamless, the bar was efficient, and everyone loved the feeling of the outdoors being incorporate with indoors. We had our reception upstairs in the Vista Room/Treehouse Deck and lucked out with beautiful weather.
The staff at the grove, particularly Tatiana, are extremely professional, VERY prompt in replying to queries, and are clearly very capable of handling events of any size and type. I didn't have a single worry during the week or day of the wedding because I knew that everything would be handled perfectly. This is a great (and surprisingly cost efficient) way to throw a slightly different reception than your typical ballroom party. Couldn't recommend them more highly!
My husband and I got married 12/29/12 upstairs at the Grove and we had such an amazing wedding. We had the ceremony on the outside deck and reception inside the "Treehouse". They provided passed appetizers and wine/beer bar and more that exceeded our expectations. The event planners made every decision very easy and the entire evening flowed perfectly. So many of our guests raved about the venue, service and delicious food. If you want a downtown, modern venue this is your place!
We had so many people coming from out of town so decided to have our ceremony and reception at the same place. We had looked at so many venues in Houston. Many of them had a charge to rent the space plus a minimum on food and beverages. The Grove is not only beautiful, has amazing food, is in a good location but it is also affordable.
The staff were great and so accommodating. Emails were answered extremely promptly and meetings were so easy to schedule.
They claim to not be wedding planners but in all honestly they helped so much and we are so grateful to them all.
The wedding ran so smoothly and all our guests had a great time.
I found The Grove on The Knot and I am so happy I did! I am originally from Houston but live in Los Angeles and had a really hard time searching for a venue from afar. I work in events so I knew what I was looking for. I didn't want the typical ballroom wedding. And I wanted my wedding to be like I would have done had it been in California.
The Grove is one of the very few venues/caterers in Houston that uses locally grown foods- if I could have had a completely "green" wedding I would have but that's not too common in TX.
I loved the look and feel of the space, the open air walls and outside deck were just lovely and it felt like our ceremony and recpetion were in two different locations which I wanted.
The food was terrific and I liked the selection. They really worked well with my menu and made all sorts of accomodations which was fantastic. All sorts of compliments on the food and they do late night tray pass which made me so happy and suited tipsy guests well.
There were some things that bothered me, the catering manager was not easy to work with until the month before the wedding. I understand that they have events all year long but I don't like being treated like and inconvenience when I know I'll be spending lots and lots of money in the months to come. I also was very disappointed they don't do any sort of tastings. Part of the fun of a catered event is the tasting and it was a let down, luckily I was only turned off by how two menu items turned out: the mini lobster roll was not that at all, it was a toast point with a dollop of lobster salad on it. That is not a a roll, sorry. And we also ordered the lamb as our protein and that was supposed to be at a carving station but it came out pre-sliced, not the end of the world but it should have been brought up in advance.
I ordered a signature cocktail which was white Sangria and that was to die for. The bartender had a heavy hand but since they ended up charging us per bottle that may not have been a good thing. A few friends pointed out (after the fact unfortunately) that they noticed the staff bussing completely full drinks and they were very suspicious that they were doing that in order for us to spend more on booze. I can't vouch for that so....just something to keep your eye out for.
Overall though, I was SO happy with how my wedding turned out. The Grove looked beautiful, with the downtown skyline and Discovery Green right there it was gorgeous. So many people told us how chic the space was and they loved how different it was from the typical wedding. I do wish there we had a few more lights but it wasn't the end of the world.
My Day-of-Planner had worked with them before so she was able to give me a lot of pointers on what would work there and what wouldn't. I would defintiely recommend them to other people who want a unique space just be sure you ask questions, even if they seem annoyed, it's your wedding and you should get everything you want!
I loved my reception at the grove. The Vista room was gorgeous with barely any decorations - great for a bride on a budget. We did passed appetizers, which was plenty of food for an afternoon reception. All four appetizers were delicious. The staff was also very accommodating and let us use the outdoor space upstairs as well, since no one else booked it for the same day. The event coordinators always responded quickly to all my emails and questions. Overall, i was extremely pleased with my expwrience. I highly recommend this venue!
The Grove was an amazing place to have our wedding and reception. I really can not say enough things about it. Tatiana, the events coordinator, and everyone else we were involved were extremely helpful and so nice to work with. Tatiana was easy to get in touch with and responded quickly to all requests. I would recommend the Grove to anyone!
