We got married at the hayloft 3 weeks ago and we saddened by our experience. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful and the bartenders and staff were wonderful… with the exception of the owner. The owner was absolutely horrible. The entire night he was rude to our guests, screaming at our groomsman, and purposefully clean up our items early. Other comments were heard throughout the night from Tim were “shes just a brideszilla” “she was entitled with her parents money” another made was “im the f***ing owner get out of my way” towards our groomsman. We also were met with cuss words again when our cousin who was underage and not feeling well went to the bathroom and did not make it to the toilet to vomit the owner came up stairs to the dance floor said to the others around him to “get him the F*** out because he just puked all over his “f***ing bathroom “. Not to mention Our contract stated our music should he turned off at 12am and at 11:30 the lights were turned on while the music was still playing. In addition at 11:45 when we were loading our final shuttle he stood at the bus and told the Groom to “get on the f***ing bus” when he was looking to make sure we had everyone in our party, even tho we had cleaned up and were leaving the venue 15 minutes before our contracted time. In addition to all of this we heard multiple comments regarding how he “stalked” around being creepy towards guests and looking for fights to pick.
The Venue itself was beautiful and Ben and Marissa did a fabulous job, unfortunately the disrespect by the owner soured our experience and the professionalism displayed by him was just sad. We will NOT be recommending this venue in the future and are sad to see such a beautiful venue be ruined by one person.
We tied the knot at The Hay Loft on May 18th, 2024, and it was absolutely amazing! The staff was wonderful and went above and beyond to help us with everything. Our guests couldn't stop gushing about how beautiful the venue was and how much fun they had. The team at The Hay Loft always got back to us within 24 hours whenever we reached out via email, which made the whole planning process a breeze. I highly encourage all future brides and grooms to consider The Hay Loft for a barn venue – you won't be disappointed!
The Hay Loft staff did not disappoint. They were incredible with the entire process. They made the process as easy as it could possibly be. They communicated in a timely and efficient manner. Their property is beyond gorgeous. They have beautiful flowers and string lights on the back patio which made the ambiance even better. The barn was beautiful and had trees with lights that just pulled everything together. It's very clear that they take wonderful care of the property. They were so accommodating with all of our wants and wishes. Our wedding was everything we could have hoped for, and we couldn't imagine our day anywhere else. I would definitely recommend using The Hayloft. You can't get much better❤️
Our wedding was 10/19/2019. The barn is beautiful but the staff is not worth dealing with. The owner yelled at the groom about the caterer before the ceremony. He also yelled at the guests before dinner to be quite, which was extremely rude and made a lot of people leave right after dinner. The owner's daughter/coordinator thinks that she is going to run your big day. She told us how everything was going to be done and when we did not do things her way she complained to guests and groomsmen during the reception about how we were doing things wrong. Nice place, but not worth dealing with the owners. If you want a nice barn wedding this is not the place for that.
We were one of the first couples to book at the Hay Loft during their first year of their existence when they were starting out and minimal rules or policies. Our day finally came and the barn was gorgeous with purple up lighting, the warm glow of string lights and our decorations. My day was beautiful and perfect, however had I known what I learned through the 30 day meeting and setting up I would have spent my money at another barn.
At our 30 day meeting I was informed for an outdoor wedding we would have to supply our own chairs, for a barn wouldn’t you expect people to have an outdoor wedding? Or for the money we spend on just the venue, chairs should be supplied? No. Also at this meeting I was informed that regardless of the number of guest, I would have to linen 30 tables, nothing like spending extra money a month out.
Fast forward to day before and setting up, luckily they gave us 3 hours to set up and rehearse the day before, even though they mentioned they plan on getting rid of this for next year and were not flexible on time frame of these 3 hours, so being from 45 min from barn everyone was expected to take a half day of work to make it.
The barn states Max occupancy is 300 people we had 230 so 23 tables and we were squished with minimal walking room, I can’t imagine fitting another 70 people or 7 tables! Our original guest list of 280 would have never have fit and if glad we had many “no rsvps”
The “day of coordinator” and main face of the barn was extremely rude and you are pretty much forced to have everything set up her way. If you question or ask to change something she gives you a smug look saying, “that would be a poor decision on your part” multiple times I heard that. For a day of coordinator my baker had to find the groom to figure out where she even needed to set up. As Marissa was nowhere to help or direct.
Of the 23 tables 12 were taken done for the dance floor, which happened to be the head table and the front row of family! I questioned this and got the lovely answer from above and was told I would see tomorrow how it works. Fast forward to wedding day, 120 people left standing for next 5 hours and half the barn left open. We did have many dancers however we definitely didn’t need all that space in which looked open and bare.
Food is served from the front deck, with no back up plan let alone space for food to be served inside, which would be fine if it wasn’t October and 40 degrees. Rather than using the door for the buffet line they opened the whole garage door so the tables in front of this door were freezing for 45 minutes!
Also would not rate this barn anywhere close to wheel chair accessible unless you enjoy a long walk outside the barn and up a gravel hill to get to reception area, and the bathrooms are on the lower level.
Overall the day went great but had I known the flow and lack of space I would have kept looking for barns.
Tim, Marissa, and the rest of the gang at The Hay Loft are amazing! They helped us throw a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception at their gorgeous barn this past Friday the 28th of September. My now husband and I booked The Hay Loft over two and a half years ago and the venue has only gotten more beautiful as the years have gone on. I highly recommend having your whole wedding day here if you are in the Watertown, WI area and are looking for that perfect rustic barn!
Went to a wedding there. Beautiful venue! So hot in the barn! No upper windows open! Only bathrooms available were on the first floor nothing on main barn floor. Not really handicapped accessible. Gravel and stones to move a wheelchair on and you have to go down a stone hill or grassy hill to get down to the first floor. With all all the mosqitoes around, maybe a good spraying of the area before an event would be helpful. Not sure how Jefferson County believes this venue is legal.
Staff was amazing and extremely helpful to us. The barn itself is incredibly beautiful. We are so glad that we chose the Hay Loft to have our wedding at! There was so much space, the bridal room was a nice touch to have, and the back yard was perfect for us to set out our lawn games for guest to enjoy while we took pictures. We are so thrilled at how our wedding turned out, and the staff and the venue had such a huge impact on our special day.
My wedding was 10/14/17 and they were great. Everything was set up ready for us to go in the morning, provided lots of fun and friendly staff and were very organized. Everything flowed smoothly and I couldn’t have had a more perfect day.
The Hay Loft Barn was the perfect venue for our May wedding. It is absolutely beautiful and an excellent price. I can't say enough good things about this venue. The staff was wonderful, well organized, and made the day so much easier for me. I would highly recommend this barn to anyone getting married!
The Hay Loft is owned and operated by a family, and they are so sweet! They are dedicated to working with you and are always open and ready for questions. The barn and surrounding land is beautiful and very reasonably priced!
