The Howell Opera House is a gorgeous location. Our wedding photos there are beautiful and our guests had a wonderful time. That unfortunately is the best I can say about the venue, because the successful event occurred in spite of the abysmal, unprofessional staff that were a stress and hindrance to every part of our process. The site manager was extremely unresponsive unless a payment was due, in which case she would call my husband two times a day asking where the check was. We agreed on a deadline to be done with rehearsal, but when we arrived for rehearsal an hour and a half ahead of that time, she informed my family that this was unacceptable and we had to be out within half an hour. The wedding day staff seemed downright irritated at our presence and created many roadblocks in our day including locking us out of our prep space with no advance notice, stopping our pictures in the opera stage halfway through, and refusing to let us use the kitchen facility. On top of it all, we paid an additional 30% on top of the rental fee for the space for all of these "services." Bottom line, a wedding in this space will give you beautiful pictures and a fun guest experience - but the experience for you and anyone helping you will be one of suddenly changed deadlines, hostility, and added expenses.
Such a beautiful venue for a wedding. It has so much charm that you barely need to decorate. We loved it.
The Opera House is an absolutely beautiful venue. We fell in love with the history of the building and the staff on our first meeting. The staff is so nice and extremely helpful with all aspects of your wedding. We ended up having a beautiful reception at the Opera House for a very reasonable price. The main room had enough space to house all our guest comfortably as well as our buffet line and dance floor.
We recently had our wedding reception at the Opera House and it was a phenomenal venue! Sharon is a delight to work with; she was quick to answer any and all questions leading up to our event and provided questions we did not think of to ask other vendors. Everyone was blown away by the historic charm and unique characteristics of the venue; our 130 guests fit comfortably within the space. The downtown proximity made it great for guests to keep busy between the ceremony and reception, and we were close by to take photos with the wedding party in several downtown locations. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for a unique reception backdrop!
We had our ceremony and wedding reception at the Howell Opera House. All night, we received compliments of how lovely the venue was. Sharon was so wonderful to work with and we couldn't of asked for a better place to start the new chapter in our lives together.
We had our wedding at the Howell Opera House on 10/10/15 and we are SO pleased with our experience there. The Howell Opera House is a beautiful venue with friendly staff. We were even given tours of the building during the ceremony! Sharon, Sandra, and the rest of the Howell Opera House team were very accommodating and helpful during our wedding planning process. They made the experience very enjoyable. I would recommend the Howell Opera House as a wedding venue to absolutely anyone! We had a great time! -Alison McClure
My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Howell Opera House. We were beyond happy with our experience. Sharon & everyone at the Opera House were so easy to work with and always available for questions. Everything was BEAUTIFUL and went so smoothly, they really went above & beyond to make our dream wedding come true. Can't wait for our photos in the actual opera house to come back, it is the coolest place! Also its awesome to know that having your wedding here is helping to fund the eventual renovation of the opera house.
For the size we wanted (100-150 guests) and the cost (as cheap as possible), this place is more than what I expected to find. The venue rental cost is not bad. Sharon was great. She is always available by phone. Email was harder to connect, so I just called and she never had a problem. I think I spoke to her every day for the whole week before the wedding (even on a Sunday!). She allows you to choose from 3 caterers (I picked CC Catering which was amazing, then did beverage catering from Jonah's Market - also great). I rented my linens from the Opera House (great prices) and they also did set up and tear down of the tables/chairs and linens. The hotels close to the Tanger outlet mall (Baymont and Holiday Inn), have a shuttle that will take your guests (and you!) to Opera House and back at the end of the night.
Dec 1st the Christmas Decorations go up, though. Sharon was great and put off the downstairs decor until 5 days later for me, but the front windows are rented, so were decorated very Christmas-y, which I didn't mind. The bummer was the second floor stage that you see in all the Google pictures. It has a HUGE Christmas tree that, after seeing it, I did not want in my wedding photos. I had a wedding, not a Christmas party. Sharon warned me about the tree, but I thought we could work around it or that she would put it off (as other reviews said she was very accommodating). It was very difficult to work around, though, since it's 14 feet tall, very wide, and in the exact center of the stage. You are not allowed upstairs on the balcony either, so have to stay on the stage floor. Be aware that if you're married any time in December, you will NOT be able to move that tree. They are very accommodating, so I thought I might be able to pull the bride "white dress" card, but nope!
Overall, I am hugely satisfied with this venue, Sharon and the other staff. I highly recommend it and will rent it in the future for showers!
After having my first venue fall through completely, I was pretty anxious to start my search for a new venue. I found the Opera House while searching online, and called to ask questions. Sharon called me back the following day and scheduled a meeting for us to meet. Once I entered the opera house, I fell completely in love. I had at first wanted a rustic barn theme, but after seeing the gorgeous wood floors, brick walls, cute foyer, and amazing vintage stage area upstairs, I knew I had found my venue! The price was affordable, and we basically had full reign to design and decorate the way we wanted - which my type A personality LOVED. My family and I worked for months making decorations, and designing the perfect vintage glam theme! The afternoon before our wedding Sharon even let us come in to decorate for 4 hours!! This helped immensely! The day of the wedding went by without a flaw, Sharon was there to assist, and I got numerous comments about the beauty of the building! Not to mention, our photos turned out amazing!!! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend the Howell Opera House as a FANTASTIC wedding venue!
We chose this place due to the historic factor. We took pictures in the upstairs and it was awesome. The settings so great it doesn't need much decorations due to the brick walls. Awesome place, wonderful wood floors and great brick walls.
The Howell Opera House was a beautiful setting for our reception and we LOVED having it there! It is so unique and has a lot of charm with the old wood floors and brick walls. We received so many compliments on our venue; our guests absolutely loved it. Sharon was great to work with and was always available to answer my questions, which relieved a lot of wedding stress! She also has worked with so many vendors and set up so many weddings that she provides really great, honest, professional advice. Another appealing attribute of the venue is the flexibility it provides. The bride and groom can really make the venue fit exactly what they want, without all the restrictions that most venues have! Lastly, the 1800's Opera Stage upstairs provides for some really awesome photos. I would recommend anyone thinking about this venue to Google the venue and look at photos of weddings held there in the past, and you will see how beautiful it really is. I highly recommend this venue!
I was well taken care of for our reception and the guests loved the venue. It is clean and quaint. Sharon took great care of us and helped with details. Their linen rental is an awesome value if you need it. We used Gerard's Catering, one of their preferred caterers and couldn't ask for a more kind and professional staff. The food was amazing and everyone loved it! The Opera House also provided us with a bartender that everyone loved! We were really in great hands!
If you're looking for a unique venue, this is the place! I loved every single aspect of having our wedding here. There is the option of having both the ceremony and the reception there, which we chose to do. It was pretty inexpensive for how beautiful the place is, and Sharon who runs it was wonderful and easy to work with. The upstairs is an actual opera house that was used in the 1800's, and this is where we did our bridal portraits and first look. Because of the walls, the stage, the colors, old bubbly windows, and dusty old wood floors, our pictures turned out SO beautifully. Highly highly recommend this place if you're looking for something unconventional, incredibly beautiful and affordable.
We had a small (100ish) wedding, and this was the perfect site. The hardwood floors made the room seem warm and welcoming, with a cool history to it!
It's price antique hard wood flooring and brick walls picture hanging strips beautiful picture windows and pillars. Also Sharon was so helpful before during and after the reception!
