The event coordinator, John, was friendly, approachable, and always so helpful. The building is perfect for a wedding. We were able to use their organist, Ann Apple, and she learned new songs and played them perfectly for our ceremony. Perfect! I'm so glad the Lubbock community has this place and these people.
I cannot say enough great things about The Legacy Event Center! But mostly about the event coordinator, John. Wow! What a blessing he was. He went out of his way to make sure our wedding was exactly what we wanted and did anything and everything to help us out. He was kind and respectful and put me at ease throughout the process. Bless his heart, he was on crutches at our wedding and rehearsal and was still running around everywhere to help us out with anything we needed. Our wedding was absolutely perfect and John is part of the reason why. Thank you so much, John! I would definitely recommend The Legacy to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with an extremely helpful staff!
The staff has been so incredibly helpful along the way and have gone above and beyond to make sure things will be how I want them. My wedding is in a month and everything has been handled for me by the amazing wedding coordinator, Nesley! They have completely taken the burden off of me and my fiancé of getting everything planned and set up. We can't wait for our big day!! Thank you so much, Legacy Event Center!
WORST experience EVER!!!! This establishment RUINED my friend's wedding!!!! One guest, ONE, as out of line but, the police officers were COMPLETELY out of line and shut down the entire wedding reception because a drunk guest flipped off one of the officers. They then used EXCESSIVE force on the guest and RUINED the event for EVERYONE....including the bride who has dreamt of this day her entire life! The venue manager was SO COMPLETELY RUDE to EVERYONE!!!! Don't EVER let your special day be RUINED by them!!!!
The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating and made sure the day went smoothly. My dress even broke zipping it up, and the coordinator came in on the clutch with a sewing kit. They may have a couple of strict rules, but I'm sure that's part of why everything went so perfectly. Beautiful venue!
I will not recommend this venue for anyone that wants to have a wedding. We signed the contract last year and paid them in full, and all of a sudden we are told that we are required to have a caterer if we plan on having food at all. They will not allow us to even have sandwiches for our guests so our options are to find a caterer within 60 days of our wedding or our guests won't be eating anything at all. The contract doesn't even say that it is a requirement to have a caterer, all it says is that the caterer needs to be a licensed person and that they are responsible for the cleanup of the food. IT DOES NOT SPECIFICALLY STATE THAT A CATERER IS REQUIRED! When we told them that, they said, "Oh well it's implied so you need to have one". They never told us that we had to have one. They won't compensate us for their mistake and they are basically telling us to deal with it. This is just one of the many problems that we have with them. Other problems include them telling us a specific setup time for our date and then telling us something completely different within 90 days of the wedding, the unprofessional handling of the situation and responses that aren't genuine. Definitely not worth $4000. Our day is ruined, all because of them. No matter what happens from this point on, all we are going to think about and what we are going to remember is that The Legacy screwed us over by not (according to them) telling us what should have been said when we signed the contract and that all they care about is getting money from you. Do yourselves a favor and look somewhere else. They lied about what they said in the past and they aren't willing to fix their mistakes. There are cheaper places that are more than willing to make your day special and are way nicer. I'm not writing this in an angry mood, the moment has passed that and my thoughts are gathered again, i just want to make sure no one else goes through what we are going through.
***UPDATE***
Minutes after writing this review, i got a call from them. I didn't know they had called and left a message until monday. When i check the messages, the first one said i had 5 minutes to call them back (which by the tone told me that was pretty much one of those "call me or else" things) and the 2nd one was Emily telling me that because of this review that you are reading, the event is no longer booked and the contract is cancelled. They even told me after they said they would give me the money back that i should seriously consider retracting this review. Funny how much they care about this huh?
Pretty professional right? All because they don't allow any food being there that isn't from a licensed caterer. I understand that they don't want to be held liable if anyone gets sick, but there's ways of doing that. They could have put that the facility and the YWCA are not responsible for any illness or injury that may occur during the event that is scheduled. But their rules are their rules and basically if you decide to go here, you have to spend more money than you think and your not allowed to talk about them in any negative way or they'll say it's defamation. They pretty much threatened us with that if we didn't take the review down.
It's really disheartining that the YWCA has a staff that represents them like this. You would figure that they would hold them at a higher standard. It's your wedding, make sure you know what your getting into before you sign their "contract".
The Legacy is not only a beautiful venue, but the staff is exceptional as well. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone! My guest loved that it was all in one and they could just walk down the hall for the reception. 5 stars!!
This place is beautiful inside and out! The ceremony area is gorgeous and was perfect for a churchy feel. Right next to is is a huge and beautiful ballroom perfect for dinner and dancing. I loved the coordinator, Julie, she was so sweet and helpful with everything!
I loved this venue, but they are in the business to make money. My contact wasn't there on the big day (she never told me she wouldn't be there). There were many small details that weren't right on the day of... no fireplace, internet (me needed to run our sound), table cloths weren't ready, and so many other details my decorator took care of that the venue should have.
I loved my wedding and the venue is pretty, but I was very dissatisfied with the service... look somewhere else first.
The Legacy Event Center was the perfect location for our wedding. The venue was an old presbyterian church and is now owned by the YWCA. The ceremony hall has a beautiful organ at the front and I couldn't imagine being married anywhere else. Melissa Sharkey was great to work with and answered every question I had. With her help our wedding day went smoothly.
Everything went perfect at my wedding! The space was perfect for the ceremony and reception. We had plenty of room to dance and for our food and candy stations. Would recommend this place to all of my friends and family. Definetly worth what we paid for.
A friend recommended this venue because we were looking for a great reception space without having to sacrifice a chapel. This had so much more than that! The Bride's and Groom's rooms were fantastic (Wii for the guys!), and plenty of room for the whole family to get ready. The chapel has beautiful wood everywhere- floors, beams, pews. Like an old Quaker chapel. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We got so many compliments on the venue- would definitely use again.
Everyone at The Legacy was amazing! The facility is gorgeous, and the prices are very reasonable. I also loved that I could have my ceremony and reception at the same location! I loved not having to worry about my guests getting lost in route to the reception!
It was the perfect place for my wedding. Melissa was awesome and helped me so much. It was so wonderful.
I had both my ceremony and reception here and loved every bit of it! The bridal suite is a great space for getting ready, and they even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne! Melissa, the event coordinator, was so helpful through the entire planning process. I absolutely loved working with her!
The Legacy is the best of both worlds, it has the feel of a church (since it used to be one) and the convenience of a country club. Melissa is a great person to work with and she made the wedding go so smoothly. Everything was taken care. I just had to pay and show up. The place isn't cheap, but it was well worth it. There is no better place in Lubbock in my opinion.
