The Line LA was a perfect space to host our wedding ceremony and reception. We wanted somewhere interesting with good food provided by the venue so we didn't have to deal with extra vendors. We loved the food and were pleased with the bar package. The wedding package included a suite the night of the wedding, food, bar package, and cake-cutting fee waiver (in lieu of a plated dessert). The final price ended up being reasonable in the context of LA weddings. We did have some issues with communications since they went through about 5 or 6 event coordinators while we were planning. But in the end, it was a unique venue with the ease of an all-in-one venue/hotel/caterer and all our guests were very impressed.
Wow! Our wedding was 5-star. Like one of the reviews said we wanted our wedding to represent our culture and personalities. This hotel is hip, has an LA city vibe, and has a vibrant, younger guests.
We got married in the Openaire restaurant usually known for its brunch. It is filled with beautiful plants that act as its own decor.
The food was delicious, plenty of options to choose from. We did family style at each table which was perfect. We chose the wedding package with premium liquor, this is definitely the way to go!
We added floral arrangements, vases, and votive candles. The hotel was very accommodating and allowed us to do what we wanted to the space. We had a cake table and used the bar space for extra fun desserts and party favors. The hotel printed our menus, table numbers, and name cards which was great because they all matched.
We had 70 guests which was the perfect amount for this space. The cocktail hour was a great space and fit everyone perfectly. It flowed so nicely into the reception. It’s nice because you can sort of see inside which creates a lot of excitement for your guests. We had a mariachi play at cocktail hour and an hour of dinner, the space made that musical experience feel more intimate. lol
The waitstaff and manager were amazing!! Service minded mentality, anything we wanted, we got. They had a lot of staff who worked the event which was extra appreciated. Not one person had to wait for a wine or champagne refill during dinner.
There was even space for everyone dancing and an outside space by the pool for people to get air. We had a photo booth also. Plenty of room to make your vision become a reality!
Most places we visited during the pandemic were strict about rebooking and that made us feel pressured not to mention uncomfortable. Robert Kellerman, the sales director was the most flexible and accommodating person, we are so thankful! We changed our date, decreased our guest count, and moved it from the banquet to the restaurant. Not once did he make us feel pressured into rebooking or tie us to the previous contract we signed.
If you’re a couple living an LA lifestyle, likes ktown/dtla, and wants something that represents that than this is the place! Every single guest, older family members to younger guests enjoyed themselves, and not one complaint which is rare!
Thank you to the LINE Hotel for making our day special and perfect!
I (the bride!) grew up in Torrance and wanted to have a wedding in LA that was representative of our culture and personalities. We wanted to create an experience that would spoil our guests and immerse them in an experience that felt magical. Enter The LINE. As soon as we got to the hotel, we knew the vibe felt right. We loved that it was in Koreatown, had a distinct identity as a boutique hotel and could house everyone we cared about (240 guests!) under one roof. We worked with The LINE closely to make sure that our guests would have the ideal experience. It did take us a couple of months to negotiate various parts of the contract: including valet pricing, room block pricing, and custom menus. Once we got to the tasting, we knew we made the right decision.
My husband and I had our reception at The Line on a Friday night in January. We had delicious passed hors d'ouevres and an open bar. The servers were very attentive. The reception was half indoor and half outdoor. The only downer was that the outside sofas in front of the fireplace were wet from the night before, so my guests couldn't sit on them. The event manager made it up to us by gifting us dinner for two at Opennaire on a later date. The Line was very accommodating to my decorators, everything was beautiful, would def recommend!
Positives: Venue/decor was nice, food and location were also great. Negatives: The planning process was unpleasant and stressful because of our hotel liaison.
Summary:
He (hotel liason) was unreliable, frequently taking days up to one week to respond to our emails, even after sending follow up emails. He would say he would get answers/reply by a certain time or day and never get back to us (see other Yelp review: Kim E. 9/22/2017).
He was unprofessional. There were multiple instances of him saying one thing and going back and forth changing what he had previously said. It seemed like he didn’t know the hotel policies or he did not have the authority to say “yes” or “no” to what we asked. When we signed the contract, we were told that there was no outside vendor fee but found out later that there was. He also confirmed all our items for the tasting and then emailed us on the morning of the tasting to say that one of the entrees had changed and that we wouldn’t be able to taste any of the h’ors d'oeuvres. Instead of communicating that he didn’t know the answers and following up, he gave incorrect information on multiple occasions making it more complicated as we were planning with our other vendors. We also arranged a meeting with him and our DJ/MC that he confirmed the day of and he didn’t show up to our meeting . He was very unorganized and forgetful, often asking us questions that we answered before. Our meetings felt like they went in circles as he came to them unprepared and we were often running the meetings. He didn’t know any of the 3 entrees and the 5 appetizers we chose on our banquet event order days before the wedding, though this was previously finalized. We ran into some billing issues. The entire amount was split into initial 4 payments and since they were rather large sums, I needed to use multiple cards. I had sent very clear instructions in my email for which cards to use for one payment and it was still charged to the wrong cards. The last payment ($3000+) didn’t get billed until over 1 month after our wedding. They didn’t notify us with a bill, didn’t ask which card we wanted to use, didn’t notify us they were going to charge our card, and didn’t notify me of a due date. We emailed them to ask for a final itemized invoice of the last charge. There was also a $1000 overage from the bar sales that was billed to us, even though the contract clearly said our cap for the hosted bar was ~$2000. We had to negotiate with them to waive this fee which they were initially not willing to do. We spoke with the catering/special events director and also emailed a longer version of this review to her. She acknowledged our poor experience, apologized on behalf of her team, waived the bar overage amount, and offered us a complimentary stay and meal as a sign of goodwill. I communicated to her that while we are satisfied with how they resolved the overage, it doesn’t change our experience but I will note in the review that we received a response from the hotel regarding our feedback. She made it clear to us that they take our feedback seriously and she spoke with her direct report regarding our experience and promised that they would do their best to make sure this wouldn’t happen again. Thankfully, our wedding night was enjoyable and stress-free and their food was probably the best wedding food we’ve had. We would recommend this venue given they improve their customer service and pre-event planning process.
