The Matthews House was an incredible venue! The house, ballroom, and gardens are beautiful and set up perfectly for indoor/outdoor options. The upstairs rooms are ideal for getting ready-plenty of space for bridesmaids to spread out between hair, makeup, and relaxing. Sarah (the owner) is truly amazing and her main goal is that you have the perfect day. We got to stay the night at the house after our reception and that was a wonderful bonus! All the staff made the evening straightforward and stress free. Parking was plentiful and guests were able to leave vehicles overnight. I would recommend the Matthews House to anyone.
Absolutely stunning venue! We held our wedding her in late December and the gardens were still beautiful even mid-winter. The staff at the venue is very friendly and helpful and the overnight suite for newlywed couple is very comfortable. Sarah was extremely responsive and provided us all the answers we need for our copious questions. We also loved all the decor that they venue was able to provide.
We had our wedding reception at the Matthews House and it was perfect! The venue looked great. Jannette and Sarah were easy to work with and responsive throughout this process. They made sure that everything fit our vision. I could not recommend the Matthews House enough!
I can't say enough nice things about the beauty of this venue and the quality of their team! Heather worked so hard to coordinate the best wedding day experience for me and my husband. Shehas such a fun personality and she's incredibly patient and easy to work with. The venue is in a great location in downtown Cary close to hotels and lots of nice restaurants for our out of town guests. The house itself is sooooo beautiful. We ended up having our ceremony and reception in the indoor carriage house, which was a great size for our party! You can take so many lovely pictures on the grounds of the venue. It even has a bridal suite upstairs and a groomsmen suite downstairs! My husband and I stayed at the venue for our wedding night in the bridal suite, and it was just heaven! It's a wonderful venue for every memorable occasion!
The Matthew’s House was a great option for our budget. Working with Sarah was pretty good, she was generally responsive to emails. The venue looked fantastic day off and she was very helpful day of as well. Lots of great places for dress photos! My biggest issue we ran into was that two of the three restrooms in the house were out of order for our event and we weren’t told until we got there which was inconvenient.
The venue is gorgeous inside and out! I could ramble on and on about how perfect the venue is, but Sarah and Jeanette deserve the real praise. From the very beginning Sarah was very involved and accommodating, she’d often checked in to see if I had any questions or needed anything. Jeannette was our day of coordinator and boy was I surprised when she told me that her day job is book keeping!! Could’ve fooled me, she did such an amazing job setting everything up and making sure everything ran smoothly. I can’t say enough nice things about her. Thank you both for all your help to make our day so special and perfect.
Our wedding day at The Matthews House was an absolute dream come true. From the moment we stepped foot onto the grounds, we were captivated by its timeless charm and undeniable beauty. The Matthews House proved to be the perfect venue for our special day, providing a seamless blend of elegance, versatility, and exceptional service.
The attention to detail and level of professionalism exhibited by Sarah and staff at The Matthews House were truly outstanding. From our initial tour to the day of our wedding, the team went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our celebration was flawless. Their expertise and guidance throughout the planning process were invaluable, making the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable.
The Matthews House boasts a variety of stunning spaces that allowed us to create the perfect ambiance for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The classic architecture, lush gardens, and picturesque surroundings served as the ideal backdrop for our love story. The attention paid to the maintenance and upkeep of the venue was evident, as every corner of The Matthews House exuded beauty and charm.
The service provided by Jeanette, our day of coordinator, and her assistant on our wedding day was impeccable. The coordination and execution of the event were flawless, allowing us to relax and enjoy every moment of our celebration.
The Matthews House also offers a range of amenities that added an extra touch of convenience and luxury to our wedding day. The beautifully appointed bridal suite provided a serene and spacious retreat for us to prepare and refresh throughout the day. Additionally, the venue's strategic location and ample parking made it easily accessible for all our guests.
We cannot express enough gratitude to The Matthews House for making our wedding day a truly unforgettable experience. The venue's timeless beauty, exceptional service, and attention to detail surpassed all expectations. If you're searching for a wedding venue that combines elegance, versatility, and outstanding service, look no further than The Matthews House.
Thank you, The Matthews House, for providing us with the perfect setting for our love story and for creating memories that will last a lifetime.
I can't stop recommending The Matthews House after our fantastic experience. Jannette and Sarah were so responsive and patient with every question and idea we brought to them. They had so many helpful suggestions and made sure our wedding was as perfect as it could be. The day of was a rainy washout, but wow did they turn around the event! The ceremony was moved inside the event hall from the garden, and they ensured the transition was seamless. Their rental room and provided tables/chairs/linens saved us a ton of money. The space came together beautifully thanks to how well they coordinated with our vendors. I would host an event with this venue again in a heartbeat!
We had our wedding reception at The Matthews House in August of 2022! I looked into about 20 wedding venues around the triangle in 2021 when we were planning, and TMH was definitely the best value. The game changer was having a wedding coordinator included in the venue price. Heather was ours, and she was fantastic. She and Sarah, TMH owner, did everything they could to make sure our day went smoothly and fit our vision. We were so happy with how the day turned out. We got ready upstairs that morning, took pictures on the beautiful lawn, then had the ceremony at a church nearby. We came back for cocktail hour and the reception! We had 130 guests and the ballroom fit our group well with room for a full dance floor. Everything you really need is included in the venue rental price - tables, chairs, basic linens, etc. We were able to choose our vendors off a preferred vendor list, and use folks who were not on the list too. This really helped with our budget. Truly the perfect day and the perfect venue. Highly recommend!!!
We had our wedding here on 4/16/22 and it was PERFECT. So much better than we ever could have imagined. Sarah was incredibly responsive and helpful in the lead up to the wedding and put us in contact with the caterers for everything we needed. Heather worked as our coordinator and was a GENIUS. She was excellent at everything, made sure our day ran smoothly, and made it so stress-free for us as the couple. I knew we didn't have a thing to worry about with Heather at the wheel. I seriously cannot recommend The Matthews House enough for your big day!
We used the Matthew’s House for a rehearsal dinner venue and could not be happier with the intimate feel, twinkle lights, and tons of space in the ballroom. It was a great place to kick off the festivities!
The Matthews House provided the perfect location for my wedding! It is a beautiful house with a ton of charm. The garden and patio are so beautiful and well kept. Even though you are in downtown Cary and there is some traffic/train noise you still feel secluded and it was not an issue for our day (our guests could hear fine with us having mics). The ballroom is elegant and large. My guest count was around 90 and we fit very comfortably. Sarah was amazing and very accommodating in giving access to the house for tours, bridals, day of, etc. She was very easy to work with and responsive. Our day of coordinator (which was included), Heather, was very nice and helped everything run smoothly during the rehearsal and day of. The Matthews House is a great value and really provided the classic/elegant feel I wanted for my wedding!
Sarah was amazing to work with. We had to move our ceremony and reception due to Covid but still wanted to get married on our original date. Sarah allowed us to use the venue for our elopement which was extremely nice of her. She was very helpful when we moved our date as well as she sent a list of several dates the venue had opened so we could pick one. The venue itself is very beautiful.
Sarah and her team were absolutely wonderful to work with! We changed venues at the last minute to accommodate for less people due to COVID. Sarah helped us plan the new event in a month. She was very responsive to all questions and met with us multiple times to make sure everyone was on the same page. Sarah and her team helped our wedding day go off perfectly. It was better than we could have imagined and they had a back up plan for any situation. To top it off they were very safe and had a great COVID procedure set up to keep vendors and guest safe!
The Matthews House was an amazing venue for our wedding! Not only was it beautiful and a perfect size for the 100 people we had attending, but the staff including Heather and Sarah were so easy to work with. We even stayed in their wedding suite in the main house which was perfect for after the reception. I would absolutely recommend to anyone getting married in Cary!
Sooo happy we chose this venue! Janette went above and beyond for our day and we couldn’t be more thankful that we had her to help with our day. The venue itself is gorgeous, beautiful bridal suite is a plus, and every space is perfect for its function (getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception). Our guests couldn’t stop complimenting the venue too! Overall GREAT choice!
I love them. Sarah and Jannette took the best care of us. I was constantly impressed with how much they took care of. They made the day flawless and stress free. I loved the location and event flow and everything was wonderful. The outdoor area is sooo great! Nighttime bliss! I would pick this as our venue over and over again!
My husband and I got married at The Matthews House in April 2018 on a beautiful NC spring evening! The entire wedding planning process from selecting the venue and talking to the owner Sarah to planning the details of the wedding with their wedding coordinator, Jannette, to executing all of those details day of our wedding was incredibly smooth and easy! If you are looking for a one stop shop venue, The Matthews House is the place to rent (plus it’s unique and provides lots of beautiful areas for pictures and guests to hang out)! Sarah and Jannette are both super nice – they want to make sure you are happy with your wedding and respect your decisions while ensuring the important details (e.g., timing of ceremony events) are planned appropriately. We wanted to have our ceremony, cocktail hours, and reception all at the same venue, get married outside, be able to have guests wander inside and outside during the reception, and ensure set-up/clean-up were easy with use of in-house china and catering. In addition, we wanted to ensure that up to 175 people could fit into the venue. All of these things were possible at The Matthews House. We used The Farmers Table as our in-house caterer for a fancier pig roast – the food was fresh and delicious. Tom was so easy to work with and let us pick our own beer and wine to serve. You have the ability to really make your wedding what you want within a reasonable price range. Having Jannette as our day of coordinator was extremely helpful and honestly needed so the bride, groom, family, and friends can enjoy the event and not have to be part of logistics on the day of the wedding. Jannette really knows the venue and can help you think through all the details so your wedding day runs smoothly. Overall, we highly recommend The Matthews House – book it! You won’t regret your decision! 😊
We had our son's wedding at Matthews House last weekend and everything was perfect. The venue is beautiful and the new owners have made some great renovations to the place that make it even lovelier and with more usable space. The owners and the staff could not have been nicer, more professional or more helpful! Everything went off without a hitch and they made the event about as stress-free as possible. The staff did a great job of flipping the ballroom from the ceremony to the reception while our guests enjoyed the cocktail hour on the patio, the new porch and in the house. Our guest raved about the venue and we would totally recommend it for a wedding if you are having under 150 guests. It was a great event and we are very grateful to Matthews House staff for making it great!
The two most recent reviews sound all too similar to my experience. The venue is beautiful and the price, although expensive, is reasonable relative to other comparable venues in the Raleigh/Cary area. Unfortunately, the service was grossly lacking. When my mom and I toured the venue as prospective clients Preeti and Jannette were great. They were warm and welcoming and expressed a "we can do anything you want" attitude. We were sold. But once we paid our deposit the service was completely different. Preeti was extremely slow to respond to emails or would not respond at all - mostly the latter. The biggest disappointment came shortly before the wedding when we were told that we had to pay extra if we wanted our reception to extend beyond 9:30pm. We were told when we first paid our deposit months earlier that we got the venue for 8 hours and that the 8 hours could span any time frame except that the music had to end by 11:00pm due to a Cary town ordinance. This was fine. My plan was to arrive on site at 3:00pm. The wedding was at 5:00pm. There would be a cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30pm followed by a reception, which would end by 11:00pm (3-11pm = a total of 8 hours). Then a month before the wedding Preeti and Jannette tell us that we have to pay extra if we want the reception to extend beyond 9:30pm because the contract only covers for a 4-hour reception and the cocktail hour counted as part of that 4 hours. Well, we were never told this! I was livid. We ended up paying extra for 30 more minutes and our reception ended at 10:00pm.
I also second a previous bride's comments about the waitstaff. They all looked to be high schoolers with little to no experience in the service industry. Very disappointing. My dad told me months after the wedding that one of our underage guests asked for a soda from the bartenda and was told soda was only for mixers!! Are you serious? How unprofessional and rude is that? Fortunately my dad brought this issue to Jannette's attention when it happened and Jannette corrected it.
Ultimately, none of this took away from the excitement and joy of my wedding day as it most definitely shouldn't. It was still a great day - because I married the love of my life, not because The Matthews House was great. It's sad because they have a great venue and the food was really good. If they offered good service, they would be a great venue. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
I had my wedding at the Matthews House last month.
Planning was a nightmare. Preeti lost email or didn't respond for weeks. No, it does not make me a bridezilla to expect an email response or at least acknowledgment in less than a week. Only after my father (who had the checkbook) became involved did she become responsive. My other vendors were unhappy because I couldn't tell them when they could arrive or anything about the timeline of the wedding day. Preeti also sprung the final check and head count due date on us. She emailed my father one day earlier than had previously been agreed upon and said that he needed to stop by the Matthews House (with a large check) in the next four hours.
The wedding day itself went ok, but was fairly disorganized. The day of the wedding, she forced my sister, who was also my maid--of-honor, to set up decorations while she was trying to do her makeup. Set-up is something that she assured us was something that the Matthews House staff handled. At the reception, my guests were forced to wait in long lines at our food stations because either a) Preeti didn't tell us that we needed more food stations, even though we had asked what was appropriate or b) she dismissed tables at the wrong speed which created bottlenecks. I also clearly told the Matthews House staff that four tables had bridesmaids bouquets as centerpieces. They did not follow instructions and two of the four tables ended up with a vase filled with water as a centerpiece.
Overall, I did not expect to spend that much money and end up with such a frazzling wedding planning experience and terrible customer service.
While the venue is beautiful and perfect, I was disappointed in the service I received. Things started to fall apart after we wrote them our last check. They seemed to no longer care once they got their money. As a bride, I was reassured that I would be more than taken care of the day of the wedding, but was really only served dinner, but once we sat down I didn't see much of the staff, minus waiters, which were just high schoolers who haven't been properly trained on how to wait tables. Especially at nice functions. My biggest disappointment came after the wedding. I had purchased 2 flute glasses for my husband and I to toast with and to continue to use in years to come. At the end of the night the glasses did not come home with my things, but when I went to contact the Matthews House about it they were quite rude in their response, after the "searched everywhere possible for the glasses". The proceeded to tell me they were confident my glasses went home with us and all but said its not their problem. Two and a half months later I get a phone call saying that they have found our glasses and when I go to collect them, I do not even receive an apology for their mistakes. We didn't get some other things we asked for, ex. we wanted steamed green beans, instead got green beans from a can, we never got the bread that was supposed to go with our meal, and the cake was the biggest let down. They clearly freeze their cakes and let them dry out. The cake we had at the tasting was not like the one at the wedding, the tasting's was far better. If they could get their customer service figured out, they would be a good venue, but I feel as though they are more concerned about making money then upholding what they "sell".
We got everything we wanted. Our wedding was perfect... perfect setting with amazing food and a great setup. The menu was customized for us, including our choices for having a signature cocktail, wine, and craft beer. Our guests had an amazing time and so did we. And did I say the food was great? Because it was perfect. We had a variety of options to feed a range of dietary preferences and everyone left full and happy.

I had my reception at the Matthews House, and it was perfect! We did our ceremony at a nearby church, and then headed to the Matthews House for the reception and I couldn't have asked for a better venue! The layout is great - there is the house and grounds for cocktail hour, and then the ballroom for dinner and dancing, but if people need a break or some fresh air, they can head into the house or out onto the grounds. The food was delicious, everything ran very smoothly thanks to Nina, and we had so much fun! We were able to put some of our engagement pictures out around the house to personalize it a bit, which I thought was a nice touch, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Every time we talk about our wedding, we say "we had SO MUCH FUN" - and I know that the staff at the Matthews House was a big part of that - they made sure things were running so smoothly that I didn't have to worry about a thing! The second we sat down, there were plates in front of us so we didn't have to worry about going through the buffet line, which was nice - I don't know if we would have eaten otherwise, and it was just a great experience!!!
The Matthews House was a great place! The staff was very helpful, willing to do whatever i needed to have the best day possible.
The Matthews House is absolutely gorgeous and very unique. Everyone at The Matthews House is so accommodating and helpful! Specifically Nina and Suzy. These women were so nice and organized and made our experience absolutely perfect. Suzy made sure our wedding ran smoothly and on schedule. Also, the food was delicious, I only wish I had more of an appetite on the wedding day to eat MORE of it! :)
We rent the place for the whole weekend and it was totally worth it! Got to start setting up Friday night and sleep there with my girls. The ceremony was gorgerous and didn't take much to make it perfect. The lawn and garden were beautifully kept. The ballroom was the perfect size for about 100 people. And the food was AMAZING! They really take care everything for you. My husabnd and I stayed at the house Saturday night and it was so wonderfully romantic...
The House was beautiful and the staff was awesome! They really want to make you feel special on your wedding day. The bridal suite is gorgeous and the picture opportunities are endless. I wouldn't choose any other venue in Cary.
The Matthews House is a beautiful venue. The weekend flowed without any major problems and all the guests really enjoyed the location. The food was amazing and the house provided the perfect setting to a wonderful wedding. The only negatives were in relation to cost and things promised -- The said they were going to "fill the house" with flowers in my wedding colors but no fresh flowers were to be found. We also ended up paying much more than initially anticipated - we tried for so long to get an invoice but didn't receive one until less than a week before the wedding. I think these things are very common in the wedding industry... just make sure to get anything promised to you IN WRITING before you sign. Overall I would absolutely recommend this site to others.
The Matthews House was everything that we could have hoped for in a venue and caterer. Most of our guests were from out-of-state so our goal was to find one location for everything. We held the ceremony in the yard, the cocktail hour in the breezeway and house, and the reception in the attached banquet/ballroom. They had a fantastic deal compared to many venues for Friday/Sunday weddings over Saturday weddings, so we got married on Sunday. They were so attentive to detail and worked with us to make sure our day was perfect. Also, their food was fantastic!
