The hotel is beautiful. With its age, of course there are "issues" with the rooms. For example, our suite was very small and really not large enough to accommodate 4, but it was listed as a Max of 4 and I was booked into that space. However, th...
at suite should really be a Max of 2 given the fact that the sofa pull-out is older than me and it was like sleeping on a torture rack. Our bathroom really needed a FaceTime as the tub/shower was an old jacuzzi circa 1980. This made it difficult to step in & out of and posed a bit of a safety hazard (no grab bars). Caution with the heat/ac unit in the rooms. There are 2 temperature settings, "Hell's Lake of Fire" or "Meat Locker Storage." There was only room for 3 ppl to sit in the living room/bedroom (1 small sofa/1 VERY old chair). The fireplace put out ZERO heat.
As for service, staff were not overly friendly and when I phoned to the front desk to request more blankets/pillows for the pull-out, the front desk staff person didn't seem happy or eager to accommodate the request (we had 1 pillow for 2 of us). I ended up having to use folded blankets as a pillow.
I gave the Inn a rating of 5 due to the food and the "Murder Mystery Weekend" event; as this made up for some of the other issues.
That being said, for the price (over $2,000) of 2 nights accommodations for 4 (1 kg bed, 1 torture rack/sofa, 1 chair, 1 bth rm) it was WAY overpriced and I'm sure I wouldn't make it a priority to return.

Had the handicapped cabin. Was very nice. Just had to move some scatter rugs, but non-handicapped folks also use the cabin, I’m sure.
Only quibbles is that there wasn’t a large enough shelf space in the bathroom to put all our stuff, but just ...
moved some to the ample kitchen counter area. The bathroom is huge. Also no paper towels but used the kitchen towels.
The handicapped ramp to the main hotel is tricky for a scooter for the initial switchback. You need speed but the corner is sharp. There is an elevator to get to the dining areas.
Staff were very nice. Food was great, both for dinner in the Speakeasy and breakfast in the dining room. Go to their website to book. Sometimes they have web only specials.

An historic Inn/hotel in the heart of Luray, VA. It's a very pleasant throwback to yesteryear, unfortunately that's also where perhaps is lacking. We came for dinner and had a wonderful around also.
Overall it was a very nice evening. However, ...
it feels like it needs a little modernization both in terms of its decor, atmosphere and also food.
The speakeasy bar is really just a regular bar (speakeasy in name, not in decor or experience per se) with a small restaurant. The food was good but a little outdated. It's a very cute place. The service was very good and friendly. The food was tasty and also very good desserts. But IMHO, if you could bring it up to date in regards to adding to the decor, spice up the menu and spruce it up a little - this could easily be a 5 star gem.
Believe me when I say we had zero complaints at all. We had a good experience, I just personally feel that it misses the 5 star mark.

A two part experience. From worst to a beautiful stay. Visited this historic place, hotel, on labor day weekend. Got there and got our cabin. Well it turns out we git the "historic" cabin which was really bad. Full of cobwebs, ideal for Hal...
loween, and room too small, just what is considered a bed which at every move everything moves, while sloping towards headboard made out of "logs" or something and ensure room was smelly and dump. ReChed out to front desk and they sent service right away that took care of the cobwebs and the smell and promise to find us something better next day. Night was a nightmare sleeping...due to bed issues. Next day we were provided a much better cabin which was what one would expect for the price we paid. Very nice , comfortable and great bed and amenities. They came through very nicely to handle their guests which was impressive. The service during our entire stay there of 3 days was amazing. Just stay out of the South River, "historic cabin".
