Located in Downtown Redlands, CA, The Mitten Building is a former factory turned cosmopolitan wedding venue oasis. Brick walls and visible beams demonstrate a loft-style design while the carefully restored building provides wedding guests with comfort. Spacious and tastefully renovated, The Mitten Building inspires romance!
Constructed in 1890 in downtown Redlands, this building is flowing with rustic, urban charm. Originally the Haight Citrus Packing House, it morphed into the Mitten Letter Factory until being abandoned in 1980. Acquired by its current owners, it was refurbished to the highest standards and opened as an events and floral business in 2000. Since then, they have been providing couples with a refined and exciting location for both ceremonies and receptions. Inside there are spacious halls for dancing and dining, as well as a quaint patio space surrounded by delicate blooms and profuse vegetation.
Exposed brick is softened by the overhead presence of wood beams for a warehouse look. The overall atmosphere of the building is contemporary chic and antique. With this combination of design styles, the space exudes a timeless ambiance, which makes it amorous and ethereal. From their carefully selected menu using organic ingredients to their decor and layout, the building exudes natural elegance and quality.
Within this former factory space, The Mitten Building has two amazing spaces that can accommodate parties of 25 guests to extravagant bashes of 730 guests. Catering and bar service are both onsite supplied by The Mitten Building, covering all your cuisine and libation needs. Their artisan meals use organic, free-range, local ingredients to ensure the highest quality taste. Various tables, chairs, and linens in a selection of colors are provided for the couple’s use. Additional utilization of the outdoor garden patio area for added venue space with our Summerbell Room. Twinkle and string lights, as well as tulle, are also available for rent to help couples add their own touches. Black wrought iron candles are among the ceremony decor provided for a continued industrial vibe.

My fiancé and I initially wanted an outdoor wedding but after touring the Mitten building and comparing prices to other venues nearby, we knew this was the the one for us! Not only was the pricing great but their food was awesome! We received so many compliments on the food as well as the venue! And Jennifer, the wedding coordinator, was extremely knowledgeable! She did a fantastic job ! I highly recommend this place for your events!

I got married a year ago and had my reception here. i had many compliments from the food to the venue and amazing bar. Every single time i had a question, they always had a response within a 2 days at the most. I was very happy with the service, staff and venue. The only thing that made me upset was that my friends car got stolen from the parking structure across the street. May not have anything to do with the building but just to have all the guests be careful when parking and locking there cars.

My husband and I got married about a month ago on November 19th, we got engaged in 2015 and started looking at venues in OC, we quickly found that any plain venue package could start at upwards of $10,000 my husband and I were on a very low budget ($6,000 for everything to be exact)…Disappointed and discouraged we spent the beginning months of 2016 venue searching every weekend, when I finally found “The Mitten Building” I loved the name, we called in right then and they said we could come in right away! We went over our budget and our wants/needs, we saw the ceremony patio and where our reception would be, they went over pricing with us and were very accommodating. When added up, the food and venue with all of our guests (75) was going to be half of our budget, I thought this is too good to be true, I thought we were going to have to compromise on the quality of staff, venue, food, accommodations, etc. I planned the wedding over the course of the next 10 months, with constant random questions of anything you could imagine; they would always answer my emails within 24 hours and were really helpful! Fast forward to the day of the wedding, THIS is what really did it for me, and what made me eternally grateful for The Mitten Building and their wonderful staff. My husband was supposed to drop off the decorations (mind you, every single one of our decorations, centerpieces, custom tables, guestbook/gifts table was handmade, DIY projects, so unless we physically gave them the 6 boxes of STUFF, there was NOTHING for them to set up except the table cloths/napkins lol) so anyway, my husband was supposed to drop off the decorations around 9 am, so that my bridesmaids and I could help setup around 12 pm for 2 hours, so we could be stress free in the bridal room from 2:00-4:00 pm before the ceremony. My fiancé was late and didn’t drop off the decorations until 2:00, and then left so we wouldn’t see each other, 3 of my bridesmaids were missing, so it was only my MOH and I with TONS of little stuff to setup, literally scrambling and running around, Josh came up to me and asked what he could do with this or that, and all I had to do was point and he took care of the rest, but seeing the limited time, he grabbed the nice parking attendant to help, and another staff member I can’t remember the name of, but was SO sweet. Everybody was running around working their butts off so that they could have it “wedding ready” in the next 30-60 minutes. I’ve never seen a team of people come together like they did, with the amount of work they had to do with the amount of time they were allotted (because it was our fault)… I never had to ask anyone to help me, instead a bunch of random staff members, just kept coming up to me asking how to set it up the way I would like it, and telling me not to worry, that everything would be okay. Everything in the end, was MORE than okay, it was wonderful and BEAUTIFUL event. Thank you Thank you Thank you EVERYBODY at the Mitten Building!!!

I drove from far to tour this venue, than later returned to book it because we fell in love with it. We booked this venue for our summer 2013 wedding. After booking I called to change the time of our reception only to find out that they didn't have me booked for a reception, just a ceremony. I was shocked and very upset! After a debate with the employee over the phone, about the contract that I signed (the contract stated that I booked a ceremony and reception. I even paid the price for both.) yet the young lady did not admit her fault and insisted that they would fix it by giving me a different wedding date and charging me extra for switching! My reaction of course was, are you kidding me? I asked to speak to a manager and when I spoke to him he knew I was upset and for good reasons. I asked for my money back and to cancel. He said they couldn't do that. I had to continuously explain to him what his employee did wrong (she booked us incorrectly, yet took our deposit accurately). The manager finally said we could get a deposit back if we wrote a letter. So I wrote a letter stating that I was cancelling due to a breach of contract on their end. When we arrived the girl who originally booked us was there. She was a thin, young, blond with long reddish colored hair, who obviously didn't do her job right. As we sat there with the man in charge, we found out that she lied to us. She told us that the venue sat 400 people but the man in charge said no, they only seat 300. She even gave us a floor plan to fit 400 people but when we met with the man in charge he said we couldn't do seating like she suggested. So why on earth would she suggest that? I told him she was horribly trained and needed lots of work. He stated that they were a family business. He was kind and very apologetic and asked us not to put any bad reviews. Him saying that made me feel bad for him. But I thought, I would not want any bride to go through what I went through with them. That was so stressful, and being that it is a family owned place, they most likely didn't do anything about the girl who terribly misinformed us, charged us inaccurately and booked our wedding incorrectly. I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone. Sure its adorable but it's in the middle of nowhere, over priced and terribly staffed.

My husband and I spent a lot of time looking for and researching venues for our wedding. One of the biggest issues we had was the fact that so many venues were outside of our budget. When we went to the Mitten, it just felt like the place for us. From the rustic feel, to the romance of their reception room, we loved the place. The staff was really down to earth and easily accommodated our schedules. We quickly found out that every weekend for the following summer was already booked, so we went for a Thursday, which turned out in our favor because it cost less than half of their weekend price. After that, it was pretty smooth sailing, from the several appointments we made with our wedding planner to quickly responding to emails about details and things we were allowed to and not allowed to do (due to the county, not the venue). We loved every minute and the Mitten staff did everything that they could to make our day just the way we wanted it.
*The only reason that I have them 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that their staff doesn't communicate well with each other. There were a few times that I would email the Mitten about something, but when I would come by and talk to another staff member, they seemed to have a miscommunication, but it was typically ironed out quickly.

The Mitten building was amazing! We have (and still) received so many compliments on our wedding. The Mitten building staff was so accommodating to anything that we needed. They were quick to get back to us with any questions that we had. I honestly had the perfect wedding. The cost was perfect too, we had a headcount of 96,it cost a little over 10,000 (that included the catering and 1000 towards a partially hosted bar tab, not including dj, photographer, etc). I would definitely recommend this venue!
Recommended Vendors for the Mitten:
Farm artisan foods was the caterer we used.... so yummy!
Paul Schell of dj soundwaves was so awesome! He definitely got all of our guests up and dancing. He was definitely a hit!

The Mitten Building thoroughly dropped the ball on setting up my tables and guests. After giving them a detailed guest list, floor plan and name cards they requested we do, they assured us that everything would be set up according to our mutually discussed plan. When my groom and I entered, the tables were not set up correctly, the place cards were still in a plastic ziplock bag and they had my husband and I sitting at a guest table. As guests were entering, my husband, a bridesmaid and I were running around setting up and fixing their mistake. The girl in charge kept following me to tell me it wasn't her fault and did not offer to help. The staff just stood around and watched us. We were told the owner was there, but refused to come speak with us. Lastly, they do not have Valet Parking as they have listed.

The mitten building gets really involved with your wedding planning, and JEFF was amazing. Go with him and only him if you can. They have lots of stuff you can use, just ask! The owner was not that great/professional, but who cares about her anyway! DO NOT get flowers from them. SUPER expensive. You do need a lot of decorations though, to make the venue amazing

I had my wedding at the Mitten Building and It was amazing! The staff was very accommodating and friendly, they have several options for ceremony and receptions, and unlike many other venues they allow you to use you're own caterer and florist. It was completely customizable. You can choose out of a list of their vendors or use a vendor of your own. The pricing was very reasonable and downtown Redlands is very cute and has a great vibe.
The Mitten Building is fantastic for all kinds of events. Weddings, birthdays, art exhibits, etc. I would highly recommend it.

The mitten building is such a beautiful venue. When my husband and I walked in i feel in love with it, I knew this is where I was going to have my wedding. I had my mind set on an outdoor ceremony, and their's is nice just not very big, so I had my ceremony elsewhere. They are pretty reasonably priced. They do have fees for outside catering, some extra decor, and certain linens. The staff always answered my emailed questions very quickly and were very nice and helpful.
I used Jami from the mitten building for my florist for all my flowers. My ceremony was at a separate location. The flowers for the reception (at the mitten building) were perfect and exactly what I asked for. The ceremony flowers were a serious let down. The bouquets has to be remade because of browning flowers, and it didn't look anything like the pictures I had given them (remake was done in a timely manner). The flowers on the arch at my ceremony were nothing like what I had shown them. I also asked for heavily laid rose petals on each side of the isle, and it was sparse/sprinkled. I had given them several pictures to look at for reference. So, the reception flowers were exactly what I asked for while the ceremony were lacking from what was in the contract. It was as if two different people did them.

The Mitten Building is a fabulous place. I used the smaller summerbell room for my wedding. They were so helpful and professional the entire time. If I emailed them, I got a reply either that night or the next day. They were also very accommodating. If there was something we wanted to do, they found a way for it to happen.
You also get a lot for what you pay. I paid $32 per person. I got 2 entrees, 3 sides, appetizers, olive station, and water and lemonade. Everyone loved the food. We got all kinds of compliments on facebook the next day.
It's a little dark, but it looks gorgeous with lots of candles. Also there's a small patio outside for people who wanna catch some air during the night.
I really loved my night and they played such a huge part in it. :)

Gorgeous venue...we loved the look of our wedding! We booked a weekday - why not get the same space for a fraction of the cost. While you don't have any planning meetings until 2 weeks before the event, we were pleased with the quick email responses we received along the way. The staff working our event also did a wonderful job.
We had one major disappointment the day of the wedding and although they "looked into" it when emailed post-event, that didn't fix anything for us! I made it clear that doors were not to be opened to guests until 6pm (for our 6:30pm ceremony) as I did not want to be seen before walking down the aisle. However, guests somehow got into the building and were seating themselves at the reception tables (which needed to be reset once the guests got moved). The bigger problem with all of this was that I had to be sequestered into the bridal suite and did not get to take the pictures my groom and I were looking forward to taking in the ceremony space (as they are openly adjoining). He is a photographer and this had been something very special and important to us. I also didn't get to take in or see the ceremony or reception spaces before they were occupied, like I wanted. In the post-event emails, I was told perhaps they "sneaked" in through the dock door and that one was let in to use the restroom, but there were many people inside and NONE should have been. This was a huge disappointment to kick off our celebration.

The Mitten Building is a red-brick building with a shabby-chic vibe. The building itself has two separate areas (the main room & the summerbell room) available for rental depending on your wedding size/need.
My wedding was held in the main room, which included a main reception space located on the ground floor (spacious! seated 250 guests very comfortably). The space was warm and cozy, lit with iron chandeliers from the ceiling, which offered low romantic lighting. Table/Chair rentals are included in your package, basic linens also included. These are very simple, which is to my taste.
The ceremony space is on a second floor, with stairs leading up from the main room (where bride will walk down the aisle)... it's like a loft, with wooden floors (which later converted into a dance floor for us, so you don't even have to rent one, score! :P). The mitten building offers complimentary decor for ceremony space, including hurricane candle holders to line the aisle-way and an iron-arch way in the front. Other places usually charge for these extras, but they don't! Check out pictures on google, pretty and so romantic.
They also throw in another room, the bar area, under the main reception area. It's got a dark wood bar counter top with shelves lining the sides of the room. A pool table you can use or not use (where the groom and groomsmen can get ready). A great place to pick up drinks and mingle for cocktail hour. They have a large flat-screen at the bar, which they readily agreed to play a DVD of our dating photos during the event (for free). Bar tables to position as you like (free too!)
Finally, the venue has plenty of parking for guests (public parking structure is 1 min walk away) and clean bathrooms.
What I love most about the Mitten is their staff. They were prompt with communication throughout the planning process, reachable via e-mail; even after the event, they were responsive to any questions I had. They took notes of what we had discussed in our final meeting, and made sure set-up crew was on the same page in regards to our preferences. Maybe because the business is family-owned, it had a laid-back feel, and everyone on their staff can help answer my questions. Throughout the process, I went several times to check out the space again (so I can envision and plan details), the staff was always very helpful and did not mind showing me what I needed each time. Stellar customer service!
Drawbacks to consider:
-exterior of building/surroundings is not very pretty. Although downtown redlands has a cute old town feel, the area immediately outside the mitten is not much to look at. Since our wedding was in jan, i figured, due to possible bad weather, the outside didn't matter as much as the inside.
-no grand reveal "wow" factor to reception area. The way things are laid out means your guests walk through the reception area to get to the ceremony space, meaning there's no grand reveal.
-no private bathroom. while the bridal dressing area has a large mirror that hugs an entire side of the wall... only i wish there was a bathroom connected directly to this room, makes for easier prepping! problem solved-- i simply had one 'reserved' with a sign for my personal use outside.
-riverside = 1+ hr drive for guest, far, but considering everything else, the mitten was too good of a deal to pass up.
We were super pleased with how everything turned out. G'luck to you finding your own wonderful venue! :)

We had out wedding last December and it was marvelous. I never pictured my wedding indoors but our work schedules left a few months as an option for the big day. The Mitten is not only beautiful but also has a simple beauty that can not be beat. The people that own it are amazing and truly make you feel at ease. Planning the wedding, setting up the wedding and cleaning up ( from what I heard) was so easy. My husband and I have said we would recommend this to anyone.
The look: it is a rustic, brick wall and exposed beams look. If you like that feel then this place is for you.

My husband and I got married at the mitten building on June 10, 2010. It is absolutely gorgeous and needs very little decoration because it already is naturally beautiful. The staff is amazing and are so helpful. The prices are VERY reasonable and we got our deposit back a week after the wedding with no problems. I would everyone to check this place out, its very original, vintage, and amazing.
