The Pecan St Cafe's courtyard is Austin's best kept secret... it is intimate, romantic, charming and in the middle of downtown Austin!
Brenda Woody and her staff went above and beyond to make our wedding day the most special and best moment of my life! The Old Pecan St Cafe is a charming spot in the heart of Austin's downtown historic and entertainment district. Our out of town guests were all able to stay in hotels that were just 5 minutes walking distance which is very convenient and made for one less thing that I had to worry about. We got married the first week of December which is always a toss up when it comes to Austin weather, but given Pecan St Cafe's unique space, we had two great indoor/outdoor options that I would have been happy with either way. The indoor option would have been in their beautiful historic private room that overlooks the courtyard. The weather was nice and sunny so we got married in the courtyard, which was perfectly intimate and romantic for the occasion! Brenda had a few different suggestions for arranging the space but ultimately we went with her top recommended option and I'm so glad we did! When we arrived everything was set-up just as we had discussed, leaving nothing for me or our families to stress about. The Cafe provided the chairs and was in charge of the entire setup and teardown. The space was so beautiful, all we brought in ourselves were a few candelabras. Our pictures turned out better than I could have imagined... the courtyard is a must see!
I also had a vision of an entire dessert spread as opposed to just one wedding cake and Brenda brought this idea to life! Their Italian Cream Cake is the best in Austin so that was our big cake, after that I didn't know exactly what I wanted, just that I wanted a table full or several different dessert options. Brenda just asked what my colors were and ran with the idea. The dessert table was clearly thought out with every inch of space carefully used and planned. Every detail coordinated from the beautifully arranged cake stands and pillars, down to the metal heart-shaped clips that held the dessert labels. Brenda even surprised us with a famous dessert from my husband's home state, Ohio, called Buckeyes... above and beyond! I can't applaud Brenda and her staff enough for what an incredible job they did. Everything was perfectly coordinated and we could not have been happier with the outcome! We can't wait to go back and celebrate for our anniversary with dinner and a slice of Italian Cream Cake!!!
We held our wedding ceremony and reception at the Old Pecan St Cafe in April of this year and we could not have chosen a better venue. Our wedding was in the Heritage Room at the Cafe's old location (still rented out for events). We had originally booked another venue but it fell through, and I'm so glad we found Brenda and PSC - they are so reasonably priced, the staff is efficient and great, and Brenda- the owner of the Cafe- is fantastic to work with.
The price of the venue is much lower than any other place around Austin I researched, and is such a good value. Included in the cost of the rental are tables, chairs, linens, and centerpieces (we used everything except the wreaths, and decorated on top of that). That's already a huge piece of your budget. The Cafe can also handle setting up for a ceremony and then re-doing the room for a reception, and has a ceremony arch if you're inclined to use it (very pretty, but the windows were so beautiful we didn't want to take away from them). They're very efficient with moving between the two setups and very careful not to undo any of your work in having already decorated the tables beforehand.
We wanted to support local business by having beers from Shiner and 512 and Brenda worked with us to get them for us. She also allowed us to make some substitutions to the menus at no cost. Great service!
Brenda was incredibly accommodating. I asked a million questions, we went in multiple times for visits to the room through the year, and she allowed my sister and I to come in every day the week of the wedding- sometimes even past the restaurant's closing hours since we could only do evenings- to set up and decorate. She OK'd us pinning and even nailing things to the wall; what other venue would allow that?
The cakes (the recipes of which have not changed in 40+ years) were delicious and, again, rave reviews! They were beautifully iced (you can specify how you'd like them decorated) and very nicely arranged on cake stands (included in the price). The groom's cake is included in your catering from the venue, which is a very nice touch!
The food was delicious and we had rave reviews from guests regarding it. Wild-caught salmon, delicious chicken, lots of side dishes... it was well-balanced and fantastic. When they ran out of potatoes, Brenda went across the street to get some more and then personally served them to the guests she knew had not gotten any. The service was excellent; everyone working the event was very courteous, timely, and professional.
At the end of the night, her staff was incredibly quick and thorough with take-down and clean-up, and we were allowed to come in the next afternoon to get decorations and things left over in the room- which meant we could leave the evening of the wedding without worrying about it. Again, this was so helpful!
I would absolutely recommend the Cafe for your future wedding or event - it's very budget-friendly but high-quality at the same time, easy to work with, and very service-oriented. Thank you very much to Brenda and the PCS staff (especially the folks who let us in and out of the room after hours to do more setup during the week leading up to the wedding) for being so wonderful to work with!
I had multiple associations with the Old Pecan Street Cafe throughout my wedding process. First, several family friends (including my grandmother who hosted a wedding shower there for my mother in 1980!) demanded I try their Italian Cream and Fat Chocolate cakes. They are amazing! Decades old recipes made from scratch, just like your grandma's. Decorated with real icing, the cakes were beautiful, classic, and delivered to my reception site for me. Best part is, you actually get to talk to the owners. Mrs. Woody personally helped with all aspects of my cake order and I know how rare that is. Secondly, a wedding shower was thrown for me on their vine-covered courtyard patio on a Sunday. The food was amazing and the setting beautiful. Both Mr. and Mrs. Woody stopped by to say hello and double check my cake plans and helped make sure the food was perfect (unnecessary, because their brunch is killer!). If I hadn't had my heart set on another venue for my wedding, I would have used them for everything. Such a great experience and even better that I was able to use a locally owned and run business. My now husband and I are regulars there for weekend brunch ever since!
The Woodys are family friends of ours, and I knew exactly what I wanted for my wedding cake - Italian Cream from Old Pecan Street Cafe! Brenda Woody designed the perfect cake for us, and it was so delicious (no fondant here!) that there was nothing left! They are timely, easy to work with, and nothing short of delicious!
This was my reception venue, cake, and caterers. It was great!
The Old Pecan St. Cafe was the perfect venue for our small informal wedding. Brenda and her staff were amazing. Every detail went as planned!
Pecan St. was easy to work with and their food / cake / service was wonderful.
I loved the fact that the venue is historic to Austin. I also liked having the entire upstairs to ourselves. The twinkling lights were very romantic and the food was excellent.
