Absolutely beautiful venue with the most picturesque Charleston views surrounded by marsh, live oaks, spanish moss, it was jaw dropping as a backdrop to our entire day. Alex made everything run so smooth and we must've asked about 500 questions before the 6 months was over with but he answered them all! I will say the only downside, is that it is truly an a la carte venue besides alcohol, which is included at a cost and at different levels and this includes bartenders. You cannot bring in outside alcohol, you must buy theirs. There are tables, chairs included but only to a certain amount and that does not include set up, you must have at least a day of planner. There were a lot of extras that we added on to make it exactly what we wanted and overall it was very expensive but we loved every minute of our day!
I don't want someone to completely write this venue off because it is so beautiful and in a good spot but I did experience a lot of issues with it.
My major concern was communication - the venue manager was hard to contact and about 90% of the time I had to "follow up" once or twice in order to get a response. The rare instance I did get an answer - he would say "I'll get back to you" and ... well didn't.
We decided about a year out to almost double the number of guests (from 70 - 120). So we had a phone call discussing all of that to be added to the contract as well as adding a completely open bar. *Shocker* it never got added to the contract till a month out so we had to dish out all that extra money just a few weeks before the wedding.
We were told multiple things in our walkthrough that wasn't true and ended up having to add so many additional costs last minute after finding out 4 weeks before that the venue did not provide any of those things.
The venue manager did not show up for the final walkthrough and claimed he was sending someone to fill in - but *surprise surprise* he didn't and we had to do it our final walkthrough with just our wedding planner and left with multiple unanswered questions.
We finally asked for someone else at the venue to help us with the wedding because we were sick of having issues - the venue manager said he would send us her number *shocker* he never did. So after calling the brewery connected to the venue - a kind hostess gave us the information we needed and we were directed to someone named Sara.
Now Sara got down to business, addressed our issues and helped us in solving some last minute emergencies. She made us feel much better about our issues and concerns.
My wedding ended up being so fun and perfect thanks to Sara and my perfect wedding planner (Juju Lee Events HIGHLY recommend) and after all the last minute stress - it was beautiful.
I would also like to point out that this venue basically provides nothing but tables, chairs and bar needs. So you will be forking out money to multiple companies for rentals including linens, cutlery, plates, extra tables and even stuff for the caterer just to be able to keep your food hot because there is no oven or proofer in the building.
So all in all, would I recommend it to a family or friend? Probably not. Unless you are ready to handle renting every little tiny thing you will need for your wedding and don't mind never getting immediate answers - then go ahead.
The Porter Room was perfect for my daughter and her husband's wedding. It was beautiful, spacious, provided adequate bar space, restrooms, and bridal dressing room. Most importantly, Alex was so easy to work with, responding immediately to contact and answering questions. Highly recommend!!
Any questions?
If I could give this place 20 stars I would! We got married here and it was absolutely stunning. The ceremony was outside of The Porter Room and reception inside. The views surrounding this venue are stunning! Everything was just PERFECT! The bar was amazing! The inside of this venue is gorgeous! The best decision we made was having our wedding here. It was more perfect than I ever imagined it could be!
