We absolutely loved having our wedding at the Riverhouse! From the very beginning of planning through our wedding day, the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. They truly go above and beyond to make sure you’re happy and that everything is exactly how you envision it. The venue itself is absolutely stunning. Everything is clean, modern, beautifully maintained, and looked gorgeous on our wedding day. And the food was amazing…everything was delicious, and our guests couldn’t stop talking about it! We are so grateful we chose the Riverhouse for our wedding. The staff made us feel taken care of every step of the way and made our day truly special. We couldn’t recommend the Riverhouse enough!

From our very first tour, through all of the email correspondence and planning meetings with Hattie, Kellie & Lauren, every experience was exceptional. The team’s professionalism, knowledge, guidance, and thoughtful feedback made us feel confident and completely at ease throughout the entire process.
From the moment we arrived on our wedding day, Rob and Loretta made us feel completely taken care of, allowing us to relax and truly enjoy every moment. Everything ran so smoothly, and we know that was a direct result of the team’s incredible organization, attention to detail, and hard work behind the scenes.
We also received so many compliments on the food! Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was, and we especially appreciated how accommodating the team was with gluten-free and allergy meals. Multiple guests specifically mentioned how grateful they were for the flexibility and care that went into making sure everyone could enjoy the meal.
A special thank you to Rob for organizing our photo dash during the reception. It was absolutely flawless! We were able to visit all 17 tables, take photos with every one of our guests, and still have plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the evening. Our DJ even commented that we completed all 17 tables in just three minutes—something he said he had never seen happen so quickly before! It was such a fun highlight of the evening and a perfect example of the organization and care that went into our day.
We are incredibly grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and genuine care shown to us, our families, and all of our guests. Our wedding day was everything we had hoped for and more, and we will always look back on it with so much joy. We couldn’t recommend this venue and its amazing team more highly! The town of Haddam is rich with American history and features beautiful historic sites. Across the river and a 12-minute stroll from the private venue lies the historic Goodspeed Opera House. The opera house was erected in 1877 and, despite its name, was used for performing plays rather than operas. Connecting the historic house and the wedding venue is the famous Haddam Swingbridge. During the 1960s the bridge was known for its innovative build and design to help modernize means of transportation. Now the structures serve as picturesque locations while continuing to provide their intended functions.
The award-winning Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station features stunning grounds with a beautiful interior. Located outside is a dazzling fountain surrounded by manicured shrubs and flowers. The venue also features picturesque riverside views of the Goodspeed Opera House and accessible wooden docks. Inside, a spacious lobby with a grand two-story staircase leads to the ballroom and dressing-room suites. The ballroom can host up to 300 guests and features vaulted ceilings and grand chandeliers. Located at the center of the room is a hardwood dance floor with easy access from all sides. Connected to the venue is an outdoor glass-roof atrium used to host ceremonies or cocktail hours.
The elegant venue strives to give world-class experiences and leave guests feeling fulfilled. The venue is equipped with a four-star chef and contemporary kitchen for crafting gourmet dishes. The menu features fine American-style cuisine bursting with fresh and bold flavors. The gourmet menu presents numerous dining packages and can be tailored by either adding or excluding certain elements and dishes. Included in all packages are table linens, china, and flatware. They also include sparkling wine for pouring toasts or to enjoy at the bar and a coffee station for guests’ convenience. - Hattie DonnerGeneral ManagerIn the summer of 2010, I started working at The Riverhouse as the Assistant Banquet Manager. Coming from the Saybrook Point Inn’s restaurant I was eager to learn a new side of the industry. I studied at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida where I specialized in Hotel, Resort & Restaurant Management with a minor in Marketing. I also attended Mount Ida College in Boston Massachusetts for a degree in Business Management. With my education and experience working with the Director of Operations, I gained knowledge of event setup, floor design, staffing and execution. My favorite part of the wedding industry was watching the ballroom come alive. From a bare room with just tables and chairs to all the glitz and glam of each event. I get excited over linens, flower arrangements, glistening votive candles and attention to detail. Watching the bride’s face light up at her first look to the room is the best feeling. I was happy to be a part of this, knowing that we did everything to make each event special. In the last several years at The Riverhouse I have worked as the Assistant Banquet Manager, Wedding Sales Manager and in 2017 was promoted to the General Manager. Every department has given me a different experience that has enabled my knowledge for event planning. When I’m not with my work family, you can find me with my husband Donnie and our two young boys, either enjoying our property in East Haddam or at the beach in Old Saybrook.
- Kelley RisattiWedding Sales ManagerI started working at The Riverhouse as a server when I was 17 years old and have been falling in love with the industry ever since. Prior to being in the Sales Office, I had the pleasure of embracing many positions in the company such as Bridal Attendant, Banquet Captain, and Banquet Manager. I was fortunate to work directly with couples on their wedding day to make it everything they had hoped for. In these rolls, I learned a great deal about leadership, service and etiquette. I loved working the ballroom, but my ultimate goal was always to work in the sales office. I attended bridal shows and volunteered my time in the office to further my knowledge about the sales aspect of the job. Eventually, I was offered my dream job of working in wedding sales. In the office I am able to meet with couples to go over all of their wedding’s details prior to their reception and am in constant contact with couples as they planned their big day. It has opened my eyes to all of the work that goes into a wedding prior to the execution, and I thoroughly enjoy watching the couple’s vision come together! All of my past knowledge from my different positions here at the Riverhouse undeniably helps me assist our couples to plan the best day ever! - Robert HanleyDirector Of OperationsIn May of 2022, Rob joined the Riverhouse Team as a Banquet Captain while he simultaneously completed his degree in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management at Southern Connecticut State University. After graduating, he was offered and happily accepted the position of Banquet Manager. Over the years, Rob has gained and honed a diverse set of skills from various positions in both the hospitality and medical fields, including in restaurants as a line cook and waiter, as a department head in a nursing home, and most recently as an EMT in an emergency room. While these individual roles may seem significantly different from Event Management, all fall under the umbrella of hospitality and have provided him a unique and diverse perspective on how to care for and tend to clients and guests in any capacity. Thanks to the Riverhouse, weddings and events have quickly become a passion of his. Seeing the detail and excitement the managers show for each event, as well as the excitement from guests leading up to and during an event, has had a profound effect on him and convinced him that the event industry is truly where he belongs. When Rob isn’t at the Riverhouse, he enjoys spending time with friends, whether it be snowboarding, wake boarding or fishing throughout the Sound, or “enjoying” a round of golf!

I reside just down the road in the village of Higganum with my husband Josh and our four wonderful daughters, Hannah, Eleanor, Isla, and Celia. I’ve spent over 20 years immersed in the service and hospitality industry. My journey into the world of hospitality began at family gatherings, where my cousin and I enthusiastically took everyone’s dinner orders. This love for serving others led me to the restaurant business, where I started as a host and worked my way up to becoming a skilled server. For the past 15 years, I’ve been an integral part of Penny Lane Pub in Old Saybrook, wearing many hats along the way – from server to front-of-house manager, office manager, and event coordinator. During my time at Penny Lane Pub, I discovered a true passion for event coordination. Witnessing the magic of a room transformed and bringing the visions of our guests to life brought me immense joy. As I step into the exciting new season of 2023, I’m thrilled to embark on a new chapter as a part of the Riverhouse team. - William BoweExecutive ChefWilliam “Bill” Bowe joined the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station team in 2024, bringing many years of experience in everything culinary! After graduating from Haddam-Killingworth High School, Chef Bill began his culinary journey at the Culinary Institute of America, quickly finding that he felt right at home crafting exquisite meals and strengthening the techniques he learned while cooking with his grandmother from a very young age. Upon returning to his home state, Chef Bill began working with St. Clements Castle and Marina in Portland, CT. After 18 months as a Prep Cook, Chef Bill was promoted to Assistant Chef, expanding his responsibilities with a broader range of food production and managing a team of 5 to ensure the highest food quality and efficient operations for their clients and guests. Chef Bill worked closely with the team at St. Clements, holding the positions of Executive Sous Chef, Executive Chef and Vice President of Operations, and most recently and before joining the Riverhouse Goodspeed team, Estate Presentation and Purchasing Manager. Chef Bill’s attention to detail is second to none – coupled with his love of food, all clients and guests of the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station are sure to enjoy while they indulge in his various creations. Chef Bill’s particular favorites include creating new station and appetizers while working with front of the house to make sure they look as good as they taste. When he’s not preparing for or cooking at an event, Chef Bill can be found relaxing in Jewitt City on his boat with his wife Candice and children Philip, Kennedy, Lillian and William. Where do I begin with this incredible venue? They truly made all of our dreams come true. They made the entire process so easy, everyone was so kind, and they all truly cared about...
making our night as magical as possible. We had a Christmas themed wedding (hence being in December) with a hint of Disney. At our final meeting, Rob was so attentive to what we were asking for in regards to decorations. He truly smashed it out of the park.
The night of our wedding was unforgettable. All of our guests commented on how beautiful everything was, how amazing the food was, and something so important to me was how careful they were with food allergies/sensitivities.
If you are looking to get married somewhere where they make you feel like family you are looking at the right place. It was sad driving away after we picked up all of our bins from the wedding. Kelley, Hattie, Rob, and Loretta are just 4 of the amazing people we had the honor of working with. We can't thank them enough.

Riverhouse was actually the first and only venue we toured. The moment we stepped inside, we both knew instantly: this is the one. What made it even more perfect is that they host only one wedding per day, which was a huge bonus for us. It allowed the whole day to feel calm, personal, and completely dedicated to our celebration.
The staff went above and beyond in every way. Everyone was so kind, organized, and attentive. We even requested a special Filipino dish, lumpia and the chef not only agreed but made it absolutely delicious. Our Filipino guests were thrilled and gave it their full approval! 💕
Communication throughout the planning process was exceptional. Kelley was incredible to work with, always quick to respond, incredibly patient, and so supportive. No matter how many questions we asked or how many décor changes I made, she handled everything with ease and made us feel completely taken care of.
From the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, every detail was flawless. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and how smoothly everything went.

mely important to me that everyone got to eat at my wedding. The Riverhouse prioritizes food, and it shows. One of my family members said this was the first time he had ever gotten to eat at a wedding before, and it was the same for me! All of the food was so delicious, and so much care was taken with the allergies.
The venue is gorgeous. It screams wedding! And the autumn leaves outside were absolutely stunning. It even smells good!
And the staff is simply incredible. Not one request was denied, and everyone was endlessly warm, kind and amazing. Every question was answered promptly, and everything was so organized and easy.
The price is ridiculously good for everything you get.
My guests could not stop talking about how wonderful the staff was, how beautiful everything was, and how good the food was.
Thank you for making my wedding so amazing, Riverhouse! It was the best day of my life, and I wish I could do it all over again!

when I walked into the ballroom and onto the dance floor, I looked at my now husband and said, “This is it, I hope they have a date in 2025 available”.
The planning process with Kelley and the team was wonderful! The worksheets that are provided make planning easy and outline all the tasks clearly. We attended their vendor show which helped us determine exactly what we were looking for in our vendors to design our perfect wedding day. Our detail meeting about a month before our wedding day was smooth and we easily made all our banquet choices. A week before our wedding, we met with Holly to ensure our day of timeline was exactly how we wanted it – she totally nailed it day of!
We have been to many weddings, and we believed that food was one of the most important parts of our day. We were blown away by the quality (and quantity!) of food at the Riverhouse. At our tasting, my husband and I ranked the appetizer, salad and dinner choices. The rankings were so high, we had trouble narrowing it down! It’s been about 3 weeks, and our guests are still complementing our food and saying how beautiful the venue was. The mac and cheese bar has been a HUGE hit with our guests.
On our wedding day, Holly and Loretta kept everything smooth and seamless and both ladies provided a calming atmosphere when things started to feel chaotic (shout out to Loretta for grabbing me tums!). It truly seemed as if all the staff at the Riverhouse enjoyed our wedding event as much as our guests did! The food service was outstanding and went right along with our timeline, our bartenders were flawless, and we totally spied a little bit of dancing going on to our music and we were absolutely overjoyed!

We were planning from out of state, and between every phone call or email the team was quick, attentive and beyond helpful for our many questions. The venue alone speaks for itself, it is absolutely beautiful. Having grown up right down the road, I knew it was the perfect place to host our family and friends to show them a glimpse of beautiful New England and the charm it holds being on the river. The day of coordinator, Holly, was so great and truly made the day a breeze so we were able to enjoy every second. Our guests absolutely raved about the food! Our only regret was not taking any time to try the hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour… but the following day we found out they even sent us home with a tray of them so we ended up getting to try them! Everything about this venue is top notch, it is hospitality at its finest. You will feel so special and a sense of ease having your wedding at The Riverhouse! the wedding, we had open communication not only about payments but every single detail you can imagine. As a type A organized person myself, they thought of everything and truly carried the team. We dropped off all decor prior to the event; they organized everything, arranged/setup everything prior to our arrival on the wedding day, and made sure it all looked perfect. We did not worry about a thing on the day of as our day of coordinator was the best human possible; handled everything, communicated efficiently, and adapted to changes as they happened when things were out of our control, all while also being a support and biggest hype woman you can ask for. We continue to get compliments from our guests about how great the food, champagne, and cake tasted. The Riverhouse and their staff are like the grand finale of a surprise party that turned into a conga line, with unlimited queso and margs. They are the human equivalent of finding $20 in your jeans pocket while staying at an all-inclusive resort that serves endless triple fudge chocolate cake, all while not using any of your personal PTO hours. Everyone should get married like this!

They allowed us to bring one of our family members who is autistic to see the venue before the wedding to ensure her comfort and ease her anxiety. We can’t thank them enough for their understanding. Rob was incredible during our rehearsal and wedding day. His attentiveness and professionalism was admired by us and our guests. Rob did not hesitate to make sure we or our families had whatever they needed. Loretta, our bridal attendant, went above and beyond to ensure we were enjoying our day. Her kindness and attentiveness did not go unnoticed. The entire staff, bartenders and servers, were amazing. Everything turned out amazing. We couldn’t recommend the Riverhouse enough!

The whole team was very detail oriented and we felt confident that our wedding day would run smoothly. We worked with Rob and Loretta on our actual wedding day and they were fantastic, they are both truly a huge asset to the team at The Riverhouse. Rob understood our vision for the day and was a calming presence, making sure that everything ran exactly as we envisioned. Loretta kept us on schedule, checking in with us frequently throughout the night and made sure we were eating and drinking and not missing out on anything. Our guests were all extremely impressed with the food and how organized and attentive the staff were. stunning ballroom and patio for the ceremony. Not only is the venue spectacular, but the staff is even better. From our first tour with Hattie, we knew immediately this was the venue for us. Throughout the whole planning process, Kelley, Lauren, and Hattie made everything so smooth and we always felt like we were in such good hands. The night of our wedding, Rob and Loretta made the night flow effortlessley and constantly were checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The staff truly goes above and beyond for their couples.
We also received sooooo many amazing reviews on the food and service as well. From cocktail hour, to dinner service, to bar service, everything was presented and tasted amazing. The day of the event I was treated no less then a princess, and felt like we owned the place. All of our guests raved about the quality of the food and service. He was professional, enthusiastic and made us feel at ease. Our "day of" attendant, Loretta, was a joy to have with us on our wedding day. She took care of us and made sure that we had everything that we needed and were where we needed to be. The entire staff and service was professional.
The bridal suite overlooks the lobby and the groom's room is downstairs, providing each group a unique space to prepare and celebrate with their bridal party.
A mock wedding food tasting is attended before you pick your menu. Everything was delicious and picking our dinner menu and passed hor d'oeuvres was so much fun!
Cocktail hour in the grand lobby is the best I have ever been to. The ballroom is spacious with a large dance floor and bar front and center. No one had to leave the party space to get a drink!
The outdoor space puts this facility over the top. From the outdoor ceremony patio to expansive deck overlooking the CT River for fun and games.
I whole heartedly recommend The Riverhouse @ Goodspeed Station. You will be spending, but it is so worth it!

We loved how much was included in the package instead of feeling like everything was an “add on” like other venues we saw. Lauren & Kelley were so helpful and accommodating in the planning process. Loretta was so sweet and a calming presence as our helpful bridal attendant. Rob deserves so much credit for everything running so seamlessly- multiple people commented on how great he was keeping everything in order running around to meet all our needs. Food was amazing too! The Riverhouse was so beyond accommodating and helpful. They provided us with so many sources that were extremely helpful in helping us plan and ensure that everything was being done on time. Lauren, Hattie and Kelley were always quick to respond to my e-mails to answer my countless questions.
I love how they allowed us to pick from two different times (we ended up choosing the 11-4 reception slot which I highly recommend!) They were even extra accommodating in the morning by letting us come in as early as possible to ensure that everyone was ready for our 10:30 ceremony.
The food is delicious! The best part of the planning process was definitely the menu trial event that they hosted a few months before our wedding that allowed us to try almost everything on their menu so we knew exactly what our guests would be eating. It made the decision-making process so much easier.
There are so many things about the Riverhouse that stick out and make it a great wedding venue. The outdoor covered patio is great for the ceremony and still allows you to be outside even if there's a little drizzle; the idea of a kid's room downstairs is perfect if you're planning on having little ones at/in your wedding; the back patio makes for a great hangout spot throughout the reception; day of coordinators that helps your day run smoothly took all of my stress away; and we loved how there were two spots for people to get drinks during cocktail hour AND passed wine to ensure that there was no bar traffic.
I will always recommend this venue to anyone who wants to have their special day there--they are truly amazing!

The staff was amazing! From the management team who helped us plan and organize all the details to the day of catering staff who executed everything flawlessly. We and our guests felt VERY accommodated by everything the folks at the Riverhouse provided for us.
The location is gorgeous! We were able to take the short trek down the hill to the river to take photos in plenty of time to get back for the ceremony because of how close everything is. The venue gave us multiple options within where to have the ceremony which is nice. There was a good contingency plan in case of bad weather. Simply put: they are buttoned up from top to bottom and the venue, food and bar were all things we didn’t have to worry about because of the quality of everyone involved at the Riverhouse.
Our guests really loved the cocktail hour! The mac and cheese bar was a huge hit and the numerous passed hors d'oeuvres were all delicious and enjoyed by everyone! Getting married is expensive, but the Riverhouse is a good value for everything that they provide for an all-inclusive event!

lley, and Hattie took care of everything we needed and answered all of our questions as we worked towards our wedding date. They offered advice and their opinions when we became stumped and it was clear they knew exactly what we needed to make our day the best it could be. During our tasting each member of the wait staff took their time to talk to us and was extremely friendly and helpful. That attitude only grew on our wedding night as they all tended to our guests as if they were their own. We had the pleasure of working with Matt and Rob for our day of and they went above and beyond to make our vision come true. Both of them were strategic, knew our details, and shared our excitement about our ideas and different takes to our day. We were lucky enough to work with Loretta as our bridal assistant and she continued to help us throughout the night with a continued smile and excitement for each step of our day. Everything was punctual, professional, and most of all relaxing and fun. We did both an American and Indian ceremony and served both American and Indian food made by the chef. My indian family RAVED about the indian dinner and also all the amazing apps. ransparent and accommodating leading up to the unfortunate day of postponement. When that day came, we had already chosen a "Plan B" date in 2021, so we were able transition easily into the next year.
The week of, Julie was so calm and helpful. She really made sure to check all of the boxes off during our planning meeting.
The day of was, hectic, as you can assume. There was a wedding before us, so the staff needed to flip the venue in only a couple of hours. On one hand, there were some issues with the florals for centerpieces and cake - they were just sitting there and no questions were brought up to myself or any of the wedding party asking where they'd go, and the photographer pointed out a box of lanterns that weren't out for the ceremony space. However, once the moms stepped in, the corrections were made ASAP and everything looked beautiful!
We asked the venue if we could have a private cocktail hour in the basement area for the wedding party only so my husband and I weren't immediately swarmed by guests. The venue was ALL ABOUT IT and got us our own server for drinks and appetizers during that hour.
This venue was literally MADE for weddings! Our photographers kept moving us around taking pictures everywhere because backdrops were gorgeous. The next day, we saw our guests took advantage too! There's not a bad place for a photo op anywhere on this property.
All in all, we LOVED having our wedding at The Riverhouse and would recommend it to any and every couple! Our vendors loved it, our guests loved it, food was AMAZING. Just perfection!

The communication throughout the entire process was smooth and very responsive. Hattie and Kelley were amazing to work with and got back to me within 1 day.
And then COVID hit and we were the very first wedding to be canceled. I mean 5 days away from having our wedding reception. We rescheduled 3 times after that. Kelley and the entire staff at the Riverhouse made this challenging time as easy as they could for us and for that we will be forever grateful.
And as our day approach, Julie (our banquet manager) was wonderful to work with! She was calm, reassuring and so positive! Our wedding day was everything we dreamed of and so much more! And that is all thanks to the Riverhouse and their wonderful staff. We got so many amazing compliments on the venue, food and staff!
If you are looking for an amazing venue, with wonderful staff, great food and a one of a kind experience, look no further! I would recommend the Riverhouse to any couple!
