About this vendor
The Shipyards is a historic wedding venue located in Lorain, OH. Built from the newly-renovated red brick Ship Building Pattern Warehouse, this property dates back to the early 1900s. It was originally a part of the dry docks, on which were constructed luxury cruise liners, shipping freights, and vessels for the second World War. After the dry docks closed in the 1960s, they were converted into a luxury housing community called HarborWalk. The Shipyards is HarborWalk’s event center, which has been outfitted with an industrial-chic design to welcome you through its doors for your special day.
The open-plan Event Center has been renovated to allow you to tailor your wedding to your tastes and desires. The large space, which can hold up to 500 guests, boasts exposed brick walls, steel beams, and lofted ceilings. Your flowers can be draped from the vintage standing lanterns and your décor arranged throughout to give the space your iconic look. The large windows bathe the floors in natural light, which are perfect for dancing late into the night. You can watch the sunset from these windows, which provide spectacular views of the Black River and the historic Charles Berry Bascule Bridge. This venue is perfect for a reception dinner and party, and can also be reconfigured to hold your ceremony and cocktail hour.
All-inclusive wedding packages at The Shipyards include a 14-hour rental of the space, tables and chairs for 300 guests, and white linens. The Event Center is outfitted with a state-of-the-art A/V system, WiFi, and customizable lighting for your convenience on the big day. A get-ready room is also at your disposal for your day-of preparations needs, and the venue provides a catering pantry and list of preferred vendors. You can also choose from the venue’s many add-ons, including bar packages, a champagne toast, and a coat room, to ensure your celebration is unforgettable. The staff is happy to customize your experience as much as possible, and they look forward to helping you create the wedding of your dreams.

We fell in love the first time we saw the venue. Stacy, was wonderful to work with and was EXTREMELY accommodating. I’d highly recommend having a wedding reception here (we did not have our ceremony there but I’m sure it’s just as great!) 🤍
The Shipyards was a perfect venue for our modern wedding. Stacy the event coordinator was east to work with and flexible with our timeline and last minute changes. I highly recommend this venue and look forward to coming back and visiting over the years as the restaurant below has great good & drinks! Thank you so much for making our day beyond special!
We picked The Shipyards based on how unique the venue was and I am so glad we did. Michelle was great to work with and responded to (all of my many) texts and emails. Our wedding was over 2 weeks ago and our guests are still talking about how cool the space was! The view of the water is gorgeous, the string lights make it extra special, the ramp going up was fun for us to get introduced out of, the train car bar, just so many unique parts to this venue that made us fall in love with it.
We've also dined in the boiler room several times and the food and service is always excellent! If we didn't live an hour away, we'd like be in a few times per month.
Thank you to all for ensuring our wedding day was perfect!
Erin, the event manager, was helpful and patient throughout the planning process. She promptly responded to any questions that I had. Although Erin has moved on from her role at the Shipyards, the new event manager, Michelle, did a great job of ensuring that we had an amazing reception. She was willing to help whenever I had a question or request during our reception., and she did it with a smile on her face! It was her first wedding reception as the new event manager, and I thought she did an amazing job!
A few experiences I had leading up to the event had me feeling totally upset with the customer service. To start, I booked our wedding almost 2 years in advance before the event center even hosted their first wedding. We opted in getting their 3 day wedding pckg which includes the Ward Room. On the marketing provided to potential clients it states, that the ward room could be used as a potential “wedding ceremony” space. However, when I expressed I wanted to use that space for cocktail hour Erin the event manager told me it wouldn’t be a problem. That was until I had asked for the conference tables to be moved out that space. She claimed there wasn’t another space to move the conference tables to & didn’t offer any other solutions as to where the cocktail
Hour could be instead. It wasn’t until I basically told her we needed the crows nest space instead to accommodate cocktail hour that she made the changes for me. I would have NEVER booked the 3 day package with that ward room included had I not been able to use it the way I expressed to her in the beginning.
Next, while reviewing the contract Erin had changed our drink package pricing from the original pricing of $19 PP to their updated pricing of $21 PP. Although it was changed promptly after I brought it to her attention. Whatever change in pricing should have never been applied to my contract. The week before our wedding we had 22 guest back out due to covid related reasons. I tried to negotiate to have the difference of those we already paid for & that were no longer coming be applied to the gratuity of the bartenders. Erin did agree to this, but only after ensuring she informed me they would keep count of all the guests who came up to the bar!She claims she tells all her couples about the counting at the bar but she NEVER mentioned it to me until after I tried to negotiate my bar package.Lastly, the verbiage on the drink package needs revised to say “mixers & cordials” are including in drink package vs “all non-alcoholic beverages included in drink packages”. The biggest issue I had was the day before my wedding. We hosted a mix and meet for our guests in which I had Erin make the reservations for me on my behalf. She made the reservation for 20 people from 8pm-10pm. When I showed up around 9 I was informed they closed the kitchen early. I was told because it is slow they close early. Well they knew it wouldn’t be slow that night with reservations for 20 yet there was no food coming out the kitchen. I had to make a huge stink and come totally out of my element to address the kitchen issue and then all of a sudden food started coming out the kitchen for my guests. I found this to be totally and utterly unacceptable! Their website needs to reflect their correct operating hours. The day after the wedding I had a conversation with both Erin & the manager at the shipyards and it came off to me as if neither of them felt bad, neither of them took accountability for the kitchen situation nor did they offer any solutions or just try to build a rapport by offering us to come back for a better experience or providing a gift card for the inconvenience or anything. After spending 3 days at the Shipyards and spending a lot of $$ you would think the level of customer service would be higher. Erin even lost my phone # at one point. I can’t say that my experience there was pleasant all the way through and I can’t say that I would want to ever come back again.
The Shipyards was amazing for our wedding day! Everything went so smoothly for our day and Erin was so helpful every step of the way! We are so happy with how our day went and would completely recommend the shipyards to anyone thinking of making this their wedding venue! We got so many compliments about how great the space was as well!
We had the most amazing experience with The Shipyards. Excellent communication, flexibility, affordable pricing, and incredible staff! Erin and her team were top of the line, and we could not recommend them more! The Shipyards was our dream venue, and Erin helped make our dream wedding come true!
We are so thrilled we booked The Shipyards for wedding reception! The venue was new and different from any we had been to before. Our guests loved it and thought the view was amazing and even said it felt like they were transported to the New England Seaside. I love this place and I'm excited there are always opportunities to come back. They have a great restaurant, bar and patio below the venue as well as a little coffee shop. It's really a wonderful jewel in Lorain, Ohio.
We loved working with Erin! She was responsive and answered all our questions as quickly as possible. The entire staff the day of our wedding was so helpful. The bartenders were great and our guests rarely had to wait for a drink.
Thank you for helping provide the wedding of our dreams!
The Shipyards was truly my dream venue and Erin was so awesome to work with! She was flexible in meeting our needs for our day and helped us to create an event, better than I could've dreamed for my wedding. They really went above and beyond during one of the craziest event planning years! The space was absolutely perfect for our large party and all of my guests raved about how great the staff were, working day of behind the bar. I had concerns about noise from the bar below with the vaulted ceilings and it was not noticeable at all! Still wishing we could relive this day in this incredible venue!
The Shipyards was such a beautiful venue, the huge windows and exposed brick made for such a big city feel on the lake. Erin was so helpful through the entire process, was quick to respond on any questions we had and the day of was always around to help get extra chairs, keys to the ready room, and helped our vendors get where they needed to be. I cannot recommend this place enough, it really made for such a beautiful and fun time.
The Shipyards was hands down the most amazing venue we could ever have dreamed of for our wedding. There was an audible “awe-factor” when guests arrived and walked up the staircase. They gasped at how gorgeous the room was. And the VIEW is just absolutely stunning! So many guests told us it was the coolest venue they have ever been to for a wedding.
Erin, The Shipyards Event Sales Manager, was amazing to work with from start to finish and made our special day a dream! She was professional, fun, connected in the industry, and just all-around super helpful.
If you’re looking for a wedding venue or an event space, book The Shipyards! (And then please invite me so I can come and hang at The Shipyards again and again and again! :)
The Shipyards went above and beyond to make sure our reception was perfect. Erin and her team did an exceptional job!
I had my bridal shower here at The Shipyards and I could not be happier with how it went! The venue is HUGE and we had way more than enough space. It would be so perfect for a wedding. Had we not already booked our wedding venue, The Shipyards would have definitely been our choice! Erin the party coordinator and Patrick the General Manager were amazing to work with. Quality people, quality venue, overall 10/10!!!!
The Shipyards was a BEAUTIFUL venue! For our winter wedding, it made for stunning photos with the cozy, industrial feel. Erin was awesome with all the many changes we faced as we cut down our whole guest list only two weeks before the big day. Her and her team were incredibly accommodating and made sure everything was taken care of. I would highly recommend this venue to any bride.
The best venue ever! My husband and I got married here this year. What a crazy year it’s been for all, and Erin and the shipyards team were amazing with helping with every detail for the wedding day, they were there for us whenever we had a question! I wish I could give this place a million stars! We’re so excited to go back every year for our anniversary as they have a restaurant downstairs. An amazing venue and a wonderful team to work with!
Can’t even describe how perfect our wedding day was at this beautiful venue! Perfect combination of elegance and fun. We loved being on the water and the views and picture opportunities it created. Due to covid, our original venue canceled on us. We found The Shipyards and immediately knew it was the right place for our day. If we could go back, this venue would have been our first choice from the start! Erin and staff were always there and available to answer our questions for our vendors and helped us plan and create the best reception. Highly recommend this beautiful venue to any couple. Wish we could go back and do our day all over again!
