HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. Do yourself a favor and spend your money anywhere else. My fiancé and I booked MJ because she had such great reviews and wow was I disappointed. When I initially asked her to do hair and make up for 6 bridesmaids, ...and hair for myself mom and she assured me that she and her "TEAM" could handle the job. We signed the contract and put down 50% of the final cost.
After I signed the non-refundable contract I learned that MJ's "team" consists of her and 1 other girl. I realized later that my start time was 8AM, our wedding ceremony starts at 6PM but we needed to be ready by 3PM for photos. That means that my girls were going to be in a full face of makeup for 10 HOURS before the actual wedding begins!
I called MJ to discuss my concern with her (our wedding is also in May, so a lot of sweating). I spoke to her very politely and with a resolve to work together to find a solution. To my utter shock MJ started yelling at me. She was actually yelling! "Well, what do you want me to do Cassie!? You're wedding is standard." She told me my wedding was standard at least 6 times during this call. She said that she could bring in more help if I wanted but she would charge me double the total price. She charges per person but was trying to charge me twice the amount for extra help. Basically I would be paying her for makeup that she wasn't doing! She was so rude and unhelpful. I told her that she gave me the impression that she had a team of more than 2 people, including herself.
MJ told me that I'm "not going to find another hair and makeup artist that does her quality of work for such a low price" and then she LITERALLY DARED me to find someone who does. My fiancé was with me while I was talking to her and I had the phone on speaker so he could hear her for himself. My fiancé's mouth was hanging open it complete shock as to how MJ was yelling and being so disrespectful.
We eventually got off the phone with no resolution from MJ but a petty dare to find someone better. The same night we went out and found someone who does much higher quality work for even less than MJ's, and wouldn't charge any extra for an assistant because she said 8 people is too many for one artist to do well.
My hair trial with MJ's assistant was a disaster. It was nothing like the pictures I showed her, it was messy, so poorly done, and I was too afraid to tell MJ that it looked horrible. I felt like I had to tell her it looked good so I did, but I was so upset.
My fiancé called MJ a couple days later to tell her that we were cancelling her services and when she asked him why he told her that the way she was yelling at me and talking to me with so much condescension was unprofessional and inappropriate and that we did not want that kind of negativity on our most special day. She denied that she was yelling at me and started yelling at my fiancé! He was trying to ask her questions but she kept yelling at him to get off the phone with her so that she could send over the cancellation documents. She never sent anything email or documents to us.
If you want to be just another "Standard" wedding and not feel special at all on the biggest day of your life, then MJ is the right person for the job.
Mj was difficult to speak to and we had so many miscommunications from the start. I felt as if she didn't care.
I was sobbing when I got off the phone with MJ and I am trying to save other brides from feeling this way and losing out on so much money.
